4 Stars: San Antonio Taco Co is very good! (by E11even E.)

SATCO has an awesome patio. It's a great place to while away a sunny afternoon drinking coronas and eating Mexican. The chips and queso are wonderful. Great prices too.

5 Stars: GREAT PLACE (by by CameronH18 at Citysearch)

I live in nashville and go to SATCO regulary. Everything there is amazing. The staff is extremely nice. Food is amazing. Cheese dip and chips to die for. Idk why people are dissing it. But if you try SATCO try Baja burrito in Berry Hill (100 oaks)

4 Stars: Very Good (by by RobbyB at Citysearch)

This Satco is great, though I definitly prefer the one downtown. The door is so awkward because it opens into the line and you have to squeeze past everyone, though the food it still worth it. I just wish they had the same taco sauce that the downtown location has!

4 Stars: GOOD BUT THERE IS DEFINITELY ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT (by by amelia07 at Citysearch)

My husband and I went to the San Antonio Taco Company after hearing rave reviews from many of our friends as well as here online. The food is in fact delicious but very different than the "typical" food you would get ordering at someplace like Camino Real. For example we both ordered fajitas. Most people around here think of fajitas coming out to them on a sizzling plate with tortillas. The SATC's fajitas were more like soft tacos. Very very tasty and unbelievably fresh but tacos nonetheless. As others have mentioned the SATC doesn't seem to abide by the slogan "service with a smile" they barely look at you when you hand them your order and seem kinda put out to be asked anything. My husband and I were sitting at one of the tables outside when two of the workers came over to the trash can that was right next to our table and began to take the trash out. EWWW. I know such things have to be done but would it really have mattered to wait a few minutes until we were done eating? Seeing steam rising off the garbage wasn't exactly appetizing. Overall the food was fantastic but if you are used to chain Mexican restaurants it will throw you a bit.

2 Stars: Unpleasant Staff (by by Ella25 at Citysearch)

While the food is good and the atmosphere even better the service here is really awful. The staff seem to be very inconvenienced by waiting on you. They act like your an idiot if you don't immediately know every nuance of their bizarre ordering system. After you muddle through ordering there is no eye contact or the slightest pleasantry at the food bar, in fact it's as if they are very annoyed you are there. Unfortunately I have had this experience every time I have been there and I am about to give up on the place. I wish the staff were as enjoyable as the food.

1 Stars: Don't believe the hype... (by by sean10mm at Citysearch)

SATCO made the "Where the Locals Eat 2006" list and has 4.5/5 stars at Citysearch. It's popular and cheap and has a nice patio. Sounds great, right? Well, there's one problem: THE FOOD STINKS. I'm not exaggerating, it is legitimately bad.

As someone who has eaten Tex-Mex in Texas and had Mexican food everywhere from Arizona to Rhode Island (!), I have to say that this place has some of the worst "Mexican" food this side of Taco Bell. I'm not an authenticity snob, either - you are better off eating fajitas at a chain restaurant like Chili's than eating at SATCO. Let me recap the problems:

1) The tortillas taste just plain bad. They have some kind of chemical aftertaste like soap or floor cleaner.
2) The "fajita" meat is unseasoned cube steak that tastes like it was boiled.
3) The beans taste like they came out of a tin can; heck, they taste a little like the can itself.
4) The rice was undercooked and had the consistency of damp cardboard. Or maybe particle board.

About the only positive was that the salsa tasted OK and nothing was actually spoiled or made me immediately sick. But this place has seriously bad food overall, and anybody looking for good Tex-Mex should look elsewhere. I'm guessing it's getting high reviews from college students who think it's a cool hangout because of the cheap beer and the patio.

5 Stars: Simply Fantastic Tex-Mex and Atmosphere (by by STLeats at Citysearch)

I brought some out-of-towers to this place for a nice relaxing dinner before a night of boozing. Simply put, I could not have pictured a better place than this. We ordered up a bucket of beer, a little food, and posted up beneath one of the heaters out on the porch. It was about a 45 degree night and I was completely comfortable out there. Needless to say, as we guzzled down the bucket of beers, we continued to make frequent trips up to the counter for another taco, or fajita, or chips. Great food + cheap prices + fantastic atmosphere = fantastic restaurant.

5 Stars: In love (by by apchesley at Citysearch)

This place is one of the 5 best quick-eat restaurants I have found in Nashville thus far. The food is great, and it's definitely a great place to go for lunch, or even after work for a bucket of beer, and hanging out on the porch under the lights.

5 Stars: SATCO is a great experience (by by deeka999 at Citysearch)

SATCO - you get what you pay for...and more. The food is inexpensive and tastes good *for what you are paying for it*, they are not trying to serve gourmet tex-mex food, they are a college dive hangout across the street from campus. What you *really* get is the opportunity to sit outside on big deck, enjoy the atmosphere, drink beer, talk with friends, people-watch, enjoy some pretty decent mexican food and just soak in the experience. Go there, order up some food, try a burrito or two, order a bucket of beer and then go find a table outside and sit down, eat your food, drink your beer and you will find it impossible to not have a great time.

1 Stars: Avoid if you want good food and service. (by by rick5480 at Citysearch)

This is not a stop on my recommended tour of Nashville. The food is sadly prepared and the staff could care less about what you want. Their attitudes were dismissive and they seemed like it was a chore when it took me longer than 5 seconds to order. The only thing that was good was the cold beer; thank god they have working appliances!
If you want to eat some good taco's or get a tasty burrito that is worth your time and money, then try Baja Burrito or La Hacienda (check out the 60 oz. margaritas). These are the best two mexican places in town.

3 Stars: Just OK (by by tragiclaura at Citysearch)

I can't believe that this is rated so highly. At best, this is a cheap college dive. The food is OK--nothing wrong with it. The cheese dip tastes fake, like it's made from velveeta. The place is way too crowded and loud. So, really this place is best if you are young--it is fun, but not for adults or families.

3 Stars: Overrated (by by jnjmcl at Citysearch)

One of the most overrated places to eat in Nashville. The food is overpriced and quality is subpar. The only thing that I truely think is good is the cheese dip.

What it has going for it is the deck and location. Hard to beat that and get a bucket of beer. I'll go there for some beer and cheese dip, but I will never go out of my way to choose it as a dining destination.

5 Stars: What more can you ask for?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? (by by merechele at Citysearch)

I have to tell you that the place my friends and I lovingly refer to as Satco ROCKS!!!! I love the food, you can't beat the homemade tortillas. The price is good and I've never been there when there wasn't a line because it is so popular. But they are quick to get you through. I would definately recommend this place to anyone and everyone. We love to go and hang out. I can't wait to take my fiance' when we visit Nashville for our honeymoon!!!!

4 Stars: Great for what it is... (by by graypw at Citysearch)

To call SATCO Mexican food is a disservice to all Mexican cooking. Don't get me wrong, for what it is, it's good, but don't go there thinking you're going to get much more than what you get on a serve-yourself taco bar at your mom's house.

SATCO can get pricey if you're not careful. The more you go, the more you realize that you have to order "strategically." For instance, it costs 30 cents less to get a "Bean and Cheese Taco" with Guacamole than a "Guacamole Taco" with beans and cheese. Likewise, you get free refills on chips, so everybody in your group doesn't need to order them.

Without a doubt, the best part of this restaurant is the patio. If you're looking for good Mexican food, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a good place to drink beer outside and snack on greasy food, this is it.

San Antonio Taco company doesn't offer the finest Tex-Mex cuisine, but it certainly is tasty and not too pricey. SATCO also understands the importance of atmosphere. With funky decor, and a cool oversized deck with heaters in winter and fans in summer, SATCO is always a fun place to go!

5 Stars: Wasted Youth (by by Sheilab15 at Citysearch)

Even with the best cheese dip and beer in town SATCO would only be another taco joint if it didn't have that college atmosphere. At SATCO you can drop the twenty years it took to get that tiny cubicle and hour lunch and go back to the days when tonight's date and the end of class were the worries of the day.

Live music Friday and Saturday nights expands its allure from just another place for lunch to a hot spot for the weekend. Fight your way through the crowd to the counter and you can still get great tex-mex cheap.

4 Stars: ...back in School... (by by harry7771 at Citysearch)

...set aside a nice summer night to visit this popular fresh mex restaurant tucked away in the Vanderbilt University neighborhood...
...don't look for an expansive menu but enjoy a tray of fresh tacos, fajitas, and chips con queso with a bucket of Rolling Rock or Corona

4 Stars: Vandy kid fave (by by FlorrieBurch_Citysearch at Citysearch)

Came here constantly during my 4 years at Vanderbilt. I never thought much of the food, but is that really what you go to SATCO for anyway? The patio's great when it's warm out--a bucket of Rolling Rocks makes for a perfect afternoon.
