One of the worst things about seeing Shakespeare is that so many directors' vision involves transplanting the show to a period. Sure, it can be justified but more often than not, feels extremely forced. This is one of the only drawbacks to the 2004 summer show A COMEDY OF ERRORS. Great performances by the 2 Drumios and Luciana and stand-outs. But the sudden, jarring appearance of 50s doo-whop music only coincides with the text in the program, not the words or actions on the stage.
Still, the NSF is something to be supported and a great gift to Nashville. Let's just hope for more "Shakespearian" Shakespeare in the future.
