The menu here varies in hitting its mark - sometimes it's good, other times mediocre...not sure why, but it just is. however, the fried green tomatoes are really damn good. pretty much all the time.

We to Germantown for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. The food was great and the service was too. We had serval different things from the menu and we shared. The plum pork was great. French onion soup was the best I have had in Nashville and the Cheese Cake, well it was better than any cheese cake I've ever eaten. If you have never eaten here I suggest you come and try it out. You will not be disappointed. We also went over and tried the new Germantown East and it was equally as good. We will go back again.

Not our best experience, but I have been there before and had a nice time and meal. So maybe it was just an off night. Will be back.

Pros: Salmon dish

I don't understand how this restaurant exists. People that dine in Nashville must have zero expectations when they go out to eat. I know people that have worked in the kitchen and it's terrible. The lamb shank is microwaved for 4 minutes when you order it and then if they have time they'll put it in the oven. If not they'll just put it back in for 4 more minutes.
The menu has been the same since forever. Why would you go here when Cityhouse is right around the corner??? There aren't many good restaurants in Nashville but this is one of the worst. Cityhouse, Flyte, Miel, and 360 Bistro are all better choices.

This is always my first pick for business lunch. Parking is convenient. It's just outside of downtown enough to make it easy for folks to still meet downtown without parking issues. Food is always fresh, well prepared, and delicious. Prices are a little high, but the value is there. Service is always effiicient and professional. Love the ample windows. Nice view. Check out Cocoa Tree next door afterwards for a yummy truffle to save for later. Tried ""to go"" recently and was extremely pleased.

A snowy day in Nashville leaves restaurants emtpy as everyone has headed home. the streets are not yet frozen and Germantown Cafe serves up a delicious New England clam chowder perfect for the cold day. The chowder was filed with clams and tasted of seafood not potato.

My wife and I enjoyed a great date night in historic Germantown. Germantown Cafe was a great place to start the night before taking a quick drive downtown. The food first and foremost was the highlight. I got the Mahi Special with an excellent balsamic glaze and my wife (a vegetarian) got the Green Plate. Both plates had reasonable portions, were presented well and tasted great. The rolls were delicious. They reminded us of a funnel cake/donut and could be eaten for desert. Speaking of desert we enjoyed the apple pie/ice cream combo. The atmosphere was lively but not obnoxiously so. The trendy decor and the great view of downtown (which was especially nice as the sun set and the city lights came on) also added to the experience. On the mediocre side....our server was attentive but detached. Also, the salad was forgettable. Overall, a memorable date spot.

We celebrated our first wedding anniversary at Germantown cafe...we had a bright window seat. The service was attentive, the bread melted in our mouths. My husbands lamb was to die for. my food was good but nothing to rave about. We decided to skip desert and go somewhere else. We will definately return.

Germantown Cafe is one of my favorite places in Nashville. Their Sunday brunch is such a special treat. The meal starts with their amazing bread that is dusted in cinnamon and sugar. Their fritatas are amazing, their french toast melts in your mouth, and the shrimp grits are insult-your-momma good! I love their pepper-jack grits that come on the side of most dishes for brunch. The last time I was there I had the crab cakes benedict with pepper-jack grits. The eggs were poached to perfection and the yolk was runny and yummy! I have also visited Germantown for lunch. I had the open faced chicken salad sandwich. After trying countless places for their chicken salad (most of them being too bland), Germantown did it right. The pecan honey glaze and fresh fruit make an ordinary lunch item, an extraordinary lunch item. I cannot wait to try out their dinner menu as I hear wonderful things about it. The service is AMAZING! Often the food arriving quickly. The wait staff is incredibly attentive without being overbearing. I definitely recommend Germantown Cafe!

The ambiance is very nice and classy. It had incredible continental cuisine. The food was excellent. The baked chicken was the best. My husband had a steak he said was only so,so! The servings are generous and they have a variety of prices. Nice view of the down town skyline.

My husband and I just got back from dinner at Germantown Cafe and we had a great date. We had a great view of the city with all of the open windows. Adam was our waiter and he was fabulous, very attentive and polite. We started out with the fried green tomatoes and the baked brie. Both were delicious. Then we had our salads and bread. I got the plum pork, which was cooked perfectly on the grill, and my husband got the cajun shrimp, which he said had just the right amount of spice. Then we had the apple pie which was ok. Overall, our experience was relaxing and we really felt taken care of because the whole staff seemed to help out with refilling our drinks and taking away our dishes. I would definitely go back.

I have been dining here for the past five years and have never had a bad experience. The braised lamb shank is one of the best dishes in town. Period. The service is always on par and the prices are excellent. We are lucky to have such a humble and accomodating restaurant in Nashville. I think some of the more pretentious restaurateurs in town should have dinner at GC and take notes.

My Husband and I love this place, great food, the brunch is the best in town. The steak and eggs and Crab cake pouched eggs over english muffins are to die for. They always have prompt seating, fair prices and great food. You will also love the mini cinnamon rolls they serve with your breakfast!

I went here for lunch. The food was great and the prices were very reasonable. I had the stuffed bread and my boyfriend had the pasta with lamb meatballs, both were delicious. We did however order an apple pie for dessert and it was sickeningly sweet so we had to send it back. Other than that the restaurant is really cute, with a great view of the city. I definitely recommend it for lunch and want to try dinner sometime as well

Don't let the bad reviews fool you Nashville diners! Germantown Cafe is one of the best there is. I have been dining there for years and I stop in for dinner, lunch or brunch at least once a month. I have never seen a restaurant more consistent with their service, food, and cocktails. For the folks that think there's not enough flavor, have you tried the Chef's New Orleans Shrimp dish? It is one of my absolute favorites. It knocks me out every time! This is the fist time I?ve ever written a restaurant review. I felt the need to do so because I really love everything Germantown Cafe has to offer. I never leave disappointed. You should give it a try!

It took the waiter about 30 minutes to get us our drinks. The salad was drenched and looked pitiful, as if it had fallen off a cliff, the lamb tasted like old goat, not lamb, the chicken prosciutto tasted mildly of fish ... in short one of the worst, .... no THE worst dining experiences I have had in Nashville in 4 years! I will never go there again!

My wife and I had dinner this past Saturday at Germantown Cafe. The Cafe has a really intesting menu - a little bit of everything (that sounded good) plus some good southern appetizers (the fried green tomatoes were outstanding!). The atmosphere was ""romantic"" as advertized, the service was superb. Free valet parking was nice. Decent wine list and fair prices. Total tab for 2 was about $100 including tip. \r
\r
However the main meals fell down from expectations. We had the grouper (catch of the day) and filet medallions. While presentation was good (of course - pile the main course on top of the veggie), they both lacked spice and flavor, frankly a bit bland. I think with a little more attention paid to flavoring the entree I might have given this place 4 stars instead of 3. Pass the cook the shaker!

Although I dined here recently for for a business dinner, I plan on taking my husband back for a romantic dinner. The setting is cozy and intimate&the food is scrumptious. The menu items are intriguing without being boring or too adventurous. The service was fantastic (and I was there on a busy night). All of us at the table shared several dessert items, all of which were outstanding.

My wife and I recently moved to the Germantown neighborhood and absolutely love it. We had heard many good things about the Germantown Cafe and have been excited to try it out. We had brunch there last Sunday and everything was wonderful - we were seated right away, service was excellent and the food was reasonably priced and very very good (she had the shrimp&grits and I had the steak benedict). We returned with some friends this past Saturday for dinner and again the service was excellent, we had a reservation and were seated right away, our server was attentive and the wait for the food was very short. The food itself though was a little disapointing. My wife had the much talked about pork which tasted great but the mashed potatoes with it tasted instant and not very good at all. I had the coconut curry salmon and everything tasted bland - the salmon was cooked perfectly but it was obviously farmed salmon and not very flavorful, not even the coconut curry sauce could give it much taste. The risotto served with it was also bland and seemed a little undercooked. After such a great brunch there and hearing so many good things we had such high hopes for dinner and were just disapointed in both the amount of variety on the menu and the taste of the food. I would return for brunch anytime but I don't know if we will return for dinner anytime soon.

Germantown Cafe was an all-around wonderful experience! Perfect for a first date, romantic enough for a fiftieth. The food was incredible (I would recommend the coconut curry salmon) and the view even better. I am not a Nashville native but this restaurant will bring me back a hundred times over! Bravo!

I picked this restaurant for a special occasion b/c of the great reviews I have read. I made a reservation and specifically asked for a window seat. When they called the day before to confirm my reservation, I once again, asked for a window seat and I was told it was written as my request. My husband and I were both pleasantly surprised to see that they offered complimentary valet parking since it was a rather stormy night. When we entered I noticed the trendy atmosphere at the bar and was told our table would be about 5 minutes or so. After being sat at a table that WAS NOT a window seat ( I did not say anything since our table had somewhat of a view ) I was again pleasantly surprised at the dinner selections on the menu. My husband ordered the lamp chops (something he eats frequently at finer restaurants) and is always very particular about how they are prepared. He enjoyed them immensely. I ordered the salmon with a curry and coconut sauce. The waiter assured me it was not spicy at all and he was right. It was absolutely delicious. The risotto that came with it was very creamy and the asparagus and spinach sides were very complimenting. We both enjoyed the Key Lime Pie afterwards which was nothing special but nonetheless very good. Our total dinner with 2 glass of wine, 1 cup of coffee, 2 entrees and 2 desserts was $80. We would both return and recommend this establishment to others because of the complimentary valet parking, great wine selection, friendly staff, very knowledgeable waiters, great service and absolutely delicious food that was appropriately portioned. Both the wine and food menus were not vast, by any means, but they had a great selection of all types of food and drink. My only recommendation is that if you truely desire a window seat, you may need to remind them more than twice. However, some of the seating that is not directly against a window still has a view. Overall, we were very pleased with the Germantown Cafe.

A local favorite, and with the recent renovations, the ambience is much improved (reduction in noise level with the expanded space). We have never been disappointed with the service and nearly everything we have tried has been more than tasty. Brunch is good but the dinner selections still prove to be the preferred offering from my perspective. The Plum Pork is absolutely divine!

You can't beat Germantown for Sunday brunch. The french toast (which changes weekly) is always delicious as is the omelet. Several friends and I went here for brunch one Sunday and it was one of the best meals I have had. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and it was fantastic. The others ordered specials of the day and everyone loved their food. We also go an order of French Onion soup and it was superb. You have to like cheese though to enjoy this because there was a ton of it on their. The view of the city was beautiful and the service was great. I cannot wait to go back again and I am anxious to try their lunch or dinner.

For those who regularly attend casual sit-down eateries, Germantown Cafe offers upgrades in each area of the fine dining experience. From the location to parking to the furniture and decor, it distinquishes itself. The preparation and presentation of the food was done very well. The caesar salad is one of the best I've eaten and I highly recommend the plum pork.(Sorry non-pork eater, just more pork for me). First dates, anniversaries, or (my favorite) the just-because occassions, Germantown Cafe fits like a glove or oven mitt.

I have been going to Germantown cafe almost since they have been open. As I have watched them get more successful, I have (with my usual pessimism) been waiting for the day when I would feel like one of the masses or a number. That has never happened. I am always recognized at the door by The guy at the door. Even though I can't remember his name he always remembers mine. The rest of staff treat me like an old friend, and the service is quick, the food is delicious, and quite frankly it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Thanks from a loyal fan!!!

I am always recognized at the door by The guy at the door. Even though I can't remember his name he always remembers mine. The rest of staff treat me like an old friend, and the service is quick, the food is delicious, and quite frankly it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Thanks from a loyal fan!!!

Pros: Hospitable Manager and Staff, quick service, and great food

Cons: sometimes a little noisy

.

Where to begin? The evening was fantastic. I asked for a table with a view and at sunset it doesn't get much better. From the complimentary valet, that had my car ready when I walked out the door, to the knowledgable staff, inviting atmosphere and distinct dishes everything was impecable. Timing on the meal was great, presentation on the food was supurb and make sure you save room for desert!

We had our second dining experience at Germantown Cafe and the only thing I can say is that they improved on perfection, raised their own bar and exceeded our level of expectation. From the the valet, the hostess (Kelley who is great), the manager, the bartenders and Jason (one of the best waiters I have ever had) to the absolutely exquisite food, it was a perfect blend of service. We were greeted in ""welcome home"" style and catered to like important people. I can't tell you what to order, because everything we have chosen has been beyond delicious. I don't say that loosely either. After 39 years of dining out, this far exceeds any restaurant I have ever been to. For a regular night out or that very special occassion when you want to impress a special someone---look no further. This is the place.

Pros: Absolutely everything!

I tried the banana bread french toast. It was absolutely the best french toast I've ever had in my life. My friend ordered the shrimp and grits and loved it.

Our first experience to Germantown Cafe was wonderful! From the minute I made reservations and talking to the lady on the other end of the phone, I knew our evening was going to be one not to forget. Our reservations were confirmed the day before, we received a warm welcome at the door, the servers were knowledgeable-friendly-attentive; the food was outstanding - we had the entrees of crabcakes, tasso shrimp and rack of lamb. Try the red vinegartte dressing with blue cheese-yummy! Desserts were delicious (cheesecake, creme brulee and chocolate mousse in a brownie shell). We HIGHLY recommend Germantown Cafe and plan on returning many times over!

Ate here last night with three girlfriends. Had the steak special - it was divine! One of the best steaks I've ever had! The appetizer special (shrimp struedel) was also delicious, as was the apple walnut dessert. My friend had the green plate and the mushrooms were great. Cool restaurant, neat view, good service. I'll definately return!

Pros: Ambiance, Good Service

The lamb was sweet and tender, the pork with plum sauce was sensational. I'd add some sherry to the French onion soup, but it was a wonderful meal. Save room for the chocolate mouse cake. It is denser than lead on a cold day with chocolaty goodness.

My first time at Germantown cafe was outstanding. I had the rack of lamb and it was the best I have ever had. The butternut squash and asparagus that came with it was perfect. The appetizers were also exelent. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. I also thought the prices were okay especially for how good the food was. The veiw of the Nashville skyline was beautiful.

We enjoy dining in resturants that take pride in the food they serve. Germantown Cafe is top of the list in Nashville. *There are options for vegetarians*

Pros: inexpensive, flavor, service

If you haven't tried the fried green tomatoes or french onion soup, you are totally missing out! I don't like tomatoes and I'm not a huge fan of french onion soup, but I LOVE them at this restaurant. The brie is also amazing. The service is top notch and the ambience couldn't be better.

I had a birthday dinner with 20 people on a Tuesday evening. The staff was incredibly accomodating. Service was great. Atmosphere was quaint and intimate with beautiful view of downtown. Everyone loved the food. I would highly recommend this for this type of situation. It was a great 30th birthday!

My boyfriend and I eat at Germantown regulary and are never disappointed. They have a great wine list and the menu has just enough choices to please any diner, yet not so many that you don't know what to pick. The Southwestern shrimp and the fried green tomatoes are our favorite appetizers and the house salad with the blue cheese vinagarette is quite pleasing. The crab cakes are the best I've outside of New England and always fresh. While I recommend either the plum pork or strip steak, the coconut curry salmon is amazing, too. The desserts are all homemade, with the chocolate bread pudding my favorite. The creme brulee is wonderful too with a cup of decaf after dinner.
Overall, I highly recommend Germantown Cafe to anyone looking for quality, value, and ambiance.

I've eaten here twice now, and each time was a great experience. The fried green tomatos and squash fritters are great appetizer choices! I was in love with the Salmon entree . . . I don't think I've had a curry sauce that good even in an Indian restaurant. The apple desert is amazing . . . we had to get it each time! Service was very professional and attentive . . . my only complaint is that their wine list is too small. Overall, the value is great . . . we eat out pretty regularly, and for once i was surprised at how small the bill was! that was a great way to top off a great meal.

I visited Germantown Cafe on my birthday, and it was a wonderful experience. The view was fantastic, the service was attentive but not overbearing, and the food was delightful-- and a great value. I tried the green plate of the day--marinated portobello with squash, spinach, and asparagus-- and it was quite possibly one of the best vegetarian entrees I have had in Nashville-- a perfectly complementary blend of flavors. Thank you for a fabulous birthday dinner...I will be back!

Germantown Cafe made our list for brunch this weekend and it will probably become a regular. Just like the decor - the menu selections were simple, straight forward, and very pleasing. The shrimp and grits was the table favorite and the french toast was very good. All in all the meal reminded us of brunch comforts with a modern feel.

I try to eat here whenever I am in town on business. The place is very big city, but the staff lacks the attitude that usually accompanies places like this. The food is always good, as is the service. I think that they have done something to combat their noise problem, too. I look forward to making it in for brunch sometime; meanwhile, the salmon at dinner will keep me coming back.

I had a good, but not great experience. It was good enough, that I may give them another try. The service and management were very friendly and attentative. The food had hints of being great, but lacked in some areas. The Caesar salad lacked depth and balance in the dressing. Again, it was good, but not great. The Tasso gravy and asparagus were the best part of the Chicken Tasso. The sauce had just the right amount of heat and the asparagus were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The chicken on the otherhand reminded me of a 1970's banquet chicken. The rice also had a lot to be desired, it had absolutely no seasoning. I also tried a side of the highly recommended Garlic Grit Cakes. These too had potential, but had a strong taste of overheated cooking oil. Presentations were simple, almost too simple for the price.

In a lucky space a few streets from downtown, this restaurant boasts an expansive and illuminated nighttime view of the Capitol building, contrasting nicely with the intimate setting within. The small but select menu doffs its hat to Dixie…
