I studied Judo under Master Chu for about two years. I had to move for work, but have missed class terribly. Master Chu is a gem to the Chattanooga area because he is talented, kind, and genuinely interested in developing his students to their fullest potential. I learned many skills while under Master Chu but most importantly he reinforced the importance of setting goals and figuring out how to achieve them. Anyone who is considering martial arts should stop by his dojo and talk with him. Although he can be difficult to speak with, his actions speak louder than his words. I have always missed my time with him and my friends in the dojo.

I have been a student at Chu's Martial Arts for about 7 years. It had always been a dream of mine to study martial arts, and after visiting Chu's Martial Arts I knew this was the school for me. I am 40 years old and had never taken any lessons prior. I have been completely satisfied with the quality of teaching and the time taken with each individual student to ensure the proper techniques and forms are taught. I have learned a great deal of disipline that not only is evident on the mat, but also in my everyday life. Chu's Martial Arts has boosted my confidence and I have a new found respect for the Art. It is a pleasure to learn from the best teacher, GrandMaster Chu!!

Grand Master Chu is the real deal. I would know. I was raised in Atlanta & had my first Karate classes at 3years of age. I have since trained in: Tae Kwon do (in atlanta), (Wresling @ the most winning high school in atlanta), Jui Jitsu, No holds bard fighting (now called MMA). My Jui Jitsu Master was trained by a Master who was trained by Master Chu so you can see why I am so Happy to have been training directly under GrandMaster Chu these Last few Years, It Is a dream come true for any well versed Martial artist to Train with a GrandMaster of this caliber & to also train along side the Masters & Black Belts in his Dojo. Why train under anyone else when you can go direct to the source?

Whooooo!!! Alert! Alert! This is not a test! Grandmaster Chu is the real deal. He is what you have always read about. He is what you have aspired to be when you watch great icons such as Bruce Lee. Except he is tangible. Never have I seen such dedication, loyatly, and commitment!!! Float like a butterfly, Sting like Master CHU!! I'm taking his classes so I'll know what to do!! He ""is"" the Ali of Martial Arts!!! My self discipline has improved daily and my confidence is now...off the grid! I know now that I am more than a woman. I am a Tae Kwon Do kicking, Judo flipping, Hapkido twisting I wish you would looking WOMAN! And I owe it all to Grandmaster Chu. Oh, I can't leave out I'm 34 and taking this class has improved my muscle tone and I feel and look better than ever. So come on 43 I welcome you. :)

I started at Master Chu's in Jan of 2009 and I now have two black belts in taekwondo and hopkido. This is due to Master chu's excellent teaching and the way he tailors his instruction to each individual, noting their age and talent. He has a great combination of discipline and caring, which really shines when he teaches children. I have lost 15 lbs and a few inches off my waist in the time I've spent here. I now help with teaching and that has been a learning experience in itself. There is always something new to learn, and skills to develop. I really expected it to be more expensive as I am learning multiple martial arts and not just one. You won't be dissapointed! Master Chu is the best!

My son and I enrolled at Master Chu's on the advice of a friend. It was the best thing I could have done. My son's confidence has increased tremendously. He has blossomed into a social butterfly. Master Chu played a part in that. I will always be thankful. As for me, I was impressed that before we entered our first class we were given private lessons. I enrolled in Tae Kwan Do and Hapkido and was taken aback by how much my stamina increased. The workouts here are intense and gratifying. Each instructor shows passion and commitment which radiates into me and is making me just as passionate for the art of Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, and now Judo. Yes, Judo!! Talk about a workout. I was 260 when I started at Master Chu's. Now I am 235. Yes I'm still a big girl but I won't be soon and I feel DAMN GOOD!!

Master Chu's school is a great place to learn the martial arts he is the only certified judo teacher in the area. His classes and instruction help bring out your true potential not just physically but also mentally he is truly a master of the arts. I have train there for less then a year now and already lost about 25 -30 pounds and have noticed a great boost in my confidence

Master Chu is the best there is! Whether you are looking to learn the arts, work on your physical fitness, self discipline, flexibility, etc. this is the place to be. After taking some classes I can already feel my physical fitness improving. I've heard nothing but good things about Master Chu and will definitely be recommending him to everyone who is considering lessons. I've looked at the other studios before deciding and nothing compares to Chu's Martial Arts!

I trained with Master Chu over 15 years ago and just came back about 1 year ago. At the time many years ago, I attained my Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a Green Belt in Judo. Upon return, I found out that Master Chu had begun to belt Hapkido as well, when in the past he just incorportated Hapkido with the Tae Kwon Do classes. Ladies and Gentlemen and Kids of all ages....you will not find a more decorated instructor probably in the US!!! I've done my homework and more importantly have trained with Master Chu now for more than 7 years....the level of instruction is incredible....and to think he chose Chattanooga, TN to set up a school is incredibly fortunate for us!!

I have trained at this school for nine years and in the time I have spent there it is only now that I can really look back and see how much I have gained from my experience at this school. In the beginning it was all about developing my martial skill, but as I progressed I began to ingrain the set of moral values that my parents have tried to drum into my head for years. I have been given numerous challenges to help improve myself and I have been instilled with a work ethic that helps me earn the goals I wish to achieve. This is not a school for those who like to get things without putting in the effort, but the confidence and joy I have had from persevering, through the challenges of gaining skill and learning how to teach those skills, will stick with me for life. What further amazes me is how much I pay to gain both martial skill and a mentor who has been a second father to me. I spent time looking into the prices at other martial arts schools with Olympic/international champion level instructors and many of these schools charge up to $300 a month just for one martial art while I can study four at Chu's for less than half the price.
Individually it cost $80 a month for Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido and Kendo and $100 a month for judo, but you can take them all for a price of $140 a month. The master of this school likes to take the time to help his students excel so the first couple of weeks each new student receives private instruction from him or a jr. instructor to help the new students get ready for class. Also, if you sign up for a black belt program even if your contract is only for a certain amount of years you are allowed up to four years extra to make sure you gain your black belt and the skill that comes with it. This has helped me out greatly since I went through several knee surgeries that kept me from getting my last promotion on time. All in all if you are looking for a place to learn martial arts, challenge yourself and build upon the values you were brought up with I would highly recommend joining in on the Chu's Martial Arts experience.

I brought my child to Master Chu because I heard from my friend that he had sent his here in order to learn discipline. My kid has ADD and was having trouble in school but after he's been learning tae kwon do, he really has learned self-control. I really do recommend him!

He has no idea what morals or integrity is. He gave my son only 2 classes and not the kind of martial arts he signed up for. he took an initial $280 and when my son quit he took another $140 so far for nothing. He is a liar and cheater don't send your kids here to teach them anything. He gives nothing he promises!

I need to first point out, that Grandmaster Chu is one of the nicest men you will ever meet. But also one of the most skilled, and most especially in every ""Art"" he teaches.
When I had first met Grandmaster Chu, I had been interested in Martial Arts for many years. I studied with Grandmaster Chu for nearly 4 years, and those years were the most enlightening for me. And those years, I would not trade for anything, because I am positively, a completely different person since.
While I was one of his students, Grandmaster Chu actually brought a few ""Masters"" to America, to instruct classes, from his original home in Korea, and every one of ""those Masters,"" were as kind and considerate, as Grandmaster Chu always is.
Grandmaster Chu is also very aware of every class, and personally gets to know (as much as any student will allow), each and every one of his students. If I may say this with deep respect, Grandmaster Chu becomes more than just your teacher, he becomes your friend.
Grandmaster Chu is very a patriotic US citizen, he teaches respect for parents, patience, inner strength, and I would most recommend his school to anyone - from very young children, even to the older generation.
.....
I am adding to this, I wrote the first part almost 4 years ago. I have read ""mom5infiniti's"" post comment and I am shocked. I talked with Grandmaster Chu in July of 2010, and informed him I may be returning. He told me of no changes in leadership then. I am planning a trip there next spring, I'll check back and confirm what I find.

Pros: ""There is always 'positive attitudes' permeating throughout the school.""

Cons: ""Honestly, I can not think of any.""
