The food was definitely what we were looking for. The ambiance was nice, too. I'd be back next time to try their other dishes.

South Street use to be a great restaurant, but the food has taken a drastic change for the worse. We went there on a Friday night (9/3/10), and ordered several dinners. There were six people in our party and when we received our food, it was cold. I will never recommend this restaurant to anyone again. I can say the best thing about that night was our waitress. If it wasn't for her pleasing attitude the experience would have been terrible.

South Street is my favorite restaurant in Nashville. Food is great. They have great baked fish dishes, if you want to eat healthy and their bread pudding, best I've EVER had.

Service is great ESPECIALLY if you should get Carla or Robin's table!!

I celebrate most of my special occasions there, it's just a FUN PLACE TO BE!!

Really poor service....by multiple people. Also, it's very difficult to get a waiter's attention. It's sad because there's so much going for this restaurant.

I live in Chicago and I visit this place every time I am in Nashville. Went again this weekend and as usual our party had a GREAT time. Be sure to sit upstairs for a really great experience. The staff there are great, attentive and the food is fabulous. Stick with the barbeque and oysters and you can't go wrong.

Some of Nashville's Country Music finest are likely to visit this establishment from time to time. We ran into one during our visit over the weekend. Another awesome experience at South Street!

South Street is my favorite restaurant in Nashville! I can only think of a few items on their menu I dont like but that is only because I dont like seafood. They have the BEST ribs I have eaten in my life and that is saying alot since I grew up around BBQ restaurants. You can enjoy the taste of the ribs with or without the bbq sauce....which I will add is very good too! Every time I am visiting home I stop by for some ribs.

they do serve a way lower quality food than the menu price.
I had a calamari plate and it was just the crunches of the calamari rings smaller than a penny.you gonna be eatin fried artichoke not calamari at all.
my total experience was disgusting.and inside smells so bad for some reason.not planing to be back again...

I've never had a bad experience at South Street. It's a fun place with good seafood. Also, it's one of the few places in Nashville that serves raw oysters. They stay open late (til 3am) and have a late-night menu. The upstairs "treehouse" is fantastic in spring, summer, and fall. I recommend trying to get a seat up there. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I

This is a great place to eat and hang out. When the weather is nice and they open up all the garage style doors and let the fresh air and sun in, it can't be beat. The jambalaya is my favorite. Great service, great prices.

We were looking for something different from the same old, same old that we always go to so we thought we would check out South Street. The food was great! Our server was very attentive, checking back frequently to see how we were doing. We had a variety of dishes and they were all very good. My husband's only complaint was that his rib/shrimp platter was a bit sparse but my daughter ordered the pumped chicken and it was a half a chicken so hubby was full before we left after eating the rest of her chicken. The crab was a bit pricey for the amount that you got but it was delicious. We will definitely go back.

Pros: Fast seating, fast service, great food

Cons: Noisy environment (mainly due to a large group of very inconsiderate 30-somethings)

Haven't been here in quite awhile. Brought some California friends who were dying for oysters. It was a Monday night and was surprisingly crowded. The host was more than a little gruff but the waitress and food were great. Oysters were the best I've had in Nashville in a long time and the out-of-towners loved it.

South Street is a great place to eat and hang-out, they have some outdoor seating and excellent food. My favorite is the ribs or jambalaya. The food is moderately priced and very tasty, especially if you like seafood. From the the outside it may not look like much but it is worth a look.

Pros: Great food and atmosphere,
Cons: Can be hard to find, parking

I go for the smokin thighs and the southern onion dressing. awesome! Further, if Jesse is working, sit at his bar and prepare to be entertained with a witty personality, top-notch skills and great conversation. If manager David is on duty, he'll surely stop by to check on your well-being. These two cats make the place! I go every chance I get.

My wife and I were asking around for a seafood place while in Nashville and this came highly recommended. Boy was that guy wrong. We wanted a more intimate sit down place and this is the opposite. I looked at the menu and it seemed tasty, hoping the food would match the prices...NO WAY. Our server must have been having the worst day of her life because she was rude, unattentive, and came by only once after we were served. Not to mention they got my wife's order wrong. I found myself waiting for 10 minutes before getting another beer.
The food was horrible and I would recommend not going to this place. You would get a better seafood meal at Long John Silver's. Save your money and treat yourself to better.

I've eaten here a lot as it's close to school. Their breakfast is awesome especially their hash browns. service is excellent and if they're really busy, they are very apologetic, so can't dock them on that. their beer always tastes cold and fresh.

Well I better explain. This is a great restaurant it really is. If you can get a table up in the treehouse its great. If you can go when the weather is nice its perfect here. We have been every season and Spring and Fall are best. When its summer this restaurant is hot...Winter very cold. It is very crowded and very very loud. You get shuffled in and out no room at some of the tables.
BUT if you are looking for fun and good seafood in Nashville for the price this is it. Forget the rest of it the food is great.

Large menu with tons of variety from New Orleans favorites, to seafood, to American fare. The place can be sort of grungy though. The prices are overpriced because of the "trendy" area.

We had a great experience at South Street. Myself, husband and 1 year old came in for lunch and the manager talked to us like he had known us for years. The entire waitstaff catered to us when our server was overwhelmed. Everyone was kind and talkative. Besides that the food was awesome and hope to get a babysitter and come back for a Saturday night out!! Highly recommended!

My favorite casual place in Nashville. The food is good but it is not cheap. This place is priced like everything else in the neibhorhood. The food is GREAT. I love the steamer bucket. If you want to split something and you both are hungry try the crab and slab(three kinds of crab and a big slab is ribs). You will pay a little more than a true "dive bar" but it is a lot better. The servers can be rude when they get rushed. This is a good place to go when you need an "ice breaker", people have fun here. When the weather is cooler but not cold, go upstairs to the "tree house"

This place is on my list of "I'll never eat there again." The tater tots were some kind of experimental fried mashed potatoes that resembled hush puppies with mushy innards. My girlfriend had a seafood "platter which consisted of three malnourished shrimp, five scraggly calamari, and fries. They had to distribute the food evenly on the oversized plate to make it look full. Thinking this a mistake I told our (rude and slow) waiter that we were missing some shrimp. He said, That is correct...half and half." Uhm...correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't halves equal? He added that for $6.95 we could add six shrimp. After paying, the waiter asked if my friend needed change. She said yes and our waiter said he had dropped some and it rolled down the street. If your looking for a place to make you feel like you've been mugged and verbally abused...enjoy.

my boyfriend and i used to visit southstreet at least twice a week because of the great food and even better atmosphere. southstreet was like our "CHEERS" for about a year. then something happened behind the scenes with the cooks and it all went downhill from there. you can only get by on atmosphere for so long, but if you continuously serve below average food even the regulars are going to disappear. i used to look forward to the daily specials because they were fresh and different all the time. but no more, i hate to be this harsh, but lately the food just sucks. come on guys, get back in the groove and focus on the food. i would love to make southstreet my spot again.

No two ways about it, South Street is a fun place to be and the food is mighty good. Sit upstairs in the tree house and whittle away time with friends sharing oysters, ckicken legs, and drinks.

The service can be hit or miss depending on who's working but more often than not, it's good, sometimes excellent. The waitresses are attentive, fun, and sometimes even flirty. The bartenders are quick, make good drinks, and always treat you familiarly.

The prices are probably a bit above average, but the food is ridiculously good, so not what I'd call overpriced. Fresh, tasty, and well prepared.

when i first entered this place, i loved the ambience, however the menu prices are completely ridiculous for the type of atmosphere and the food. my burger was just shy of $10 and i couldve gotten a better one at burger king. the portions are puny also. our server was okay, didnt go out of his way to get us a second order of bread, we waited until we got our food to get the second order of bread. there were no drink specials, and because of the prices (literally they were as much as a 4 star restaurant) i dont think i will be returning,

One of the best bets for your money in Nashville. Casual fun atmosphere. Come dressed up or down. This is dive bar meets music row. The food is always fresh and the prices are right. We love to go here Sunday afternoons for that perfect end of weekend hang. Best osyters and barbeque in Nashville

I went to this resturant on Sunday August 8, 2005. I sat at the bar and the bartender was both rude and gave terrible service. When I talked to the management the next day about my visit, they did not give me the impression that they cared. It was as the manager put it "I think just a missunderstanding of communication". I can spend my "dinning out dollars" elsewhere. I do not reccomend this resturant to anyone.

I was a little scared when I looked down at the menu, but after figuring it out, I have decided this is one of the best places to eat in Nashville. The price was great. My friend and I both had a half rack of ribs plus sides, bread, drinks, and slaw for under $25. I think they might have had the best ribs I've ever had. The service was very friendly and helpful, you can tell they like their job. They treated me like one of their many regulars, even though this was my first time.

I found this restaurant on this website before I went on my roadtrip and made a point of finding it. It was everything I'd hoped for and more. Cheap as heck, AWESOME po'boys, strong drink, AND it was in a neighborhood that was playing street music (Big Head Todd or something like that, it was great). I would HIGHLY recommend it. There is also a great used music store and a cute coffee shop nearby. GO!

This is was a little hard for us to find since we are not from Nashville and 21st street starts and stops, but it was worth the hunt. My sister had the steak, and said it was good. My crab legs were great, and had plenty to eat. I will visit here again on my next visit to Nashville!

having been a local nash'villian for all of 4 months now, everytime my wife and i go out to eat, it seems as though we choose south street instead of trying "something new". it's good food, inexpensive, bustling with people and fun to eat at - espeically in warmer weather when they "roll up" the front of the place and open it to the street. dinner for 2 with a few beers never exceeds $50 or $60. and you leave stuffed. i wish they had more nonsmoking seats though....

We stopped here on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch as they were setting up for a music festival across the street. My husband and I loved the restaurant. It was casual and had a very local feeling to it. Our waitress was really friendly and gave us advice on what to see and do in the area. I order the crab cake platter, and what can I say - they almost outdid the crabcakes I used to have when I lived in Baltimore. All in all, a great place!

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: Not very accesible

I've eaten at South Street at least 7-8 times in last 3 years and always found it a pleasant experenience. Went last Sat evening. Waitress was terrible - distracted, forgetful. She recommended crab cake dinner - said it had no mayonaisse and little breading and spiceyness depended on who was cooking that night. A couple of us ordered and found it VERY bready and definitely not worth $18. It was apparent that dinners had sat under a warmer for awhile (sweet potatoes had a crust!) Other diners liked the roasted chicken, steak biscuits and shrimp. Still a fun place to go despite lousy experience this time. Standard menu might be getting a little tired. Daily features didn't look too different.

Being from up north we wanted a unique southern style restaurant for our stay in Nashville. This place delivers! Atmosphere was lively without being noisy, great selection of beers, awesome array of dinner items. I highly recommend the shrimp appetizers (any of them). I felt like I was down in New Orleans. We'll definitely be back when we return to Nashville.
