This is the worst mexican I've eaten in Knoxville. Their slsa is straight from a can of puree no spices in it at all and the sauce on top of the burrito and enchilada are the same way, so generic it's worse than taco bell. There combo

Good Mexican food in comfortable atmosphere. Generous helpings, friendly service, reasonable prices. Nice for lunch or dinner out. Plenty of combinations to please both vegetarians and meat eaters. We were too full to indulge in dessert, but they do have it on the menu.

Very good food at excellent location. Fast service and cheap. Good for lunch during the week when you're in a hurry.

Pros: Fast. Cheap.
Cons: Better food at other Mexican restaurant across the street.
I have been going to El Charro for the last 6 years and it has never failed to deliver. They have great chips (thin and crispy), pretty good salsa, great cheese dip, great burritos, fajitas, and tacos. I almost always get the #23. Service is always excellent and they serve your food quickly. Order a beer or margaritta and enjoy!

Hailing from Texas, most folks claim that all we know down there is Tex-Mex, and that El Charro's is Authentic! Well, even the Mexican waiter I had said it was mediocre... very nice guy BTW and he seemed to appreciate my ordering in Spanish.
Taco's were wet/watery/soggy. Chicken fajita meat was flavorless chewy chunks. Chips weren't good. Queso there is not like Tex-Mex ( creamy cheese, guacamole, sour cream, beef) but is rather like the stuff you stick on veggies. Even Velveta would be an improvement.
Texas rule of thumb, the more Mexican food costs, the worse it is... so far El Charro's meets that standard.
