I have known Todd Burr on a personal and professional level for several years. Todd operates and manages one of the most honest and ethical businesses in Nashville. I have sent several of my friends, family and associates to Hillsboro Village Auto Service for repairs and maintenance and I have never heard anything but positive feedback.\n\nTodd and his staff go out of their way to make certain that all work and repairs are done correctly and with quality parts. They also stand behind their work with a 12 month warranty on all work performed. \n\nTrust worthy auto shops are hard to find and this is one of the most honest auto repair operations in Nashville. I completely trust Todd and Brent in their repair recommendations.

Todd and his staff have taken care of our cars for years. They listen carefully, troubleshoot until they find the problem and then they fix what's broken. They're conscientious and resourceful about caring for our cars and they try to save us money when they can. I've recommended them to lots of neighbors who've been very happy with service. I wouldn't go anywhere else!\nThanks, Todd!\n

""Used to be reliable....""\n\nWe tested the starter and alternator--the starter was dragging and the alternator was testing good. We don't replace parts unless we can verify they are malfunctioning or not functioning at all. If the alternator is bad and we can verify then it is covered under our 4 yr/48,000 mile warranty (parts and labor). I do have a question though, did the other technician verify the starter was bad before he/she replaced it so that you felt good about the repair?? It is possible that you have more than one problem---alternator could be malfunctioning on an intermittent basis and did not show up when we tested. Please bring it in for us to retest.\n\nTodd Burr\nOwner

I had a great experience with Good Neighbor. I have a 1997 Saturn 5-speed. It came to where it wasn't drivable because it would not shift. I got it to one auto shop and was told that the shifter cables needed to be replaced and that it would cost over $1000, which is way out of my budget. I called around to a few shops describing my problem and was told around the same pricing from each. When I called Good Neighbor they asked me to come in so they could take a look at it. After they checked it out, I was told that they would be able to repair the part instead of replacing it, which definitely cut the cost to a fraction of what it would have been if they were replaced. I was also fortunate enough to be offered a loan car to use so that I could get to work. I'm thankful for all the help I received and fortunate to happen upon such a good auto shop. I will definitely be back.

I used this mechanic based on reviews I found online so thought my experience should be shared.\n\nI took my car in to get a relay to my AC fixed and could not be more dissatisfied with the service. Not only did they hold my car days longer than promised but the failed to solve the problem I was charged for.\n\nMy request was simple: please identify the problem with my AC and fix it. They say they 'fixed' the problem but then never reinstalled the blower motor or dash. Now I am out a significant sum of cash and stuck with a car with a broken A/C during what's predicted to be the hottest week of the summer so far.\n\nRather than addressing a mistake he made and moving on to what they can do to make it right, Brent tried to blame the customer for a request he failed to read. If the company responds to this review like the others I think you'll see my point (read the invoice Brent!)\n\nI will never use their service again and I suggest you do the same. \n

AAA Approved & Honors Their 4 Yr/40,000 Mile Warranty: I've now had my truck in this great Hillsboro Village service station three times, and the service & value have consistently met Five Star standards. Today, I picked up my 1993 Ranger after they replaced the alternator they first put in OVER A YEAR AGO: No charge for parts, labor or charging system evaluation. They honored their warranty with a smile! NOTE: while they had the truck in the shop, I asked them to check out the serpentine belt, to see if it needed replacement. ""Nope. It's fine."" they said. I hope the reader understands the importance of this. Serpentine belt replacement is an easy scam for a disreputable business. In this case, I asked them to check it and they could have easily made some money doing an unnecessary replacement, especially since they weren't making any money off of my warranty-related service. If the prices seem higher than you'd prefer, please consider that this business seems to be following a great, reputable business model: do QUALITY work with QUALITY prices and GREAT, personable customer service. Is it any wonder that I consider this MY auto service station in Nashville, even though I live in Joelton? Great location close to Vanderbilt (including medical center), V.A. Medical Center, Music Row, and all the hotels of West End and downtown Nashville. If you are traveling through town and staying in one of those areas, it is an easy taxi ride from here to your lodgings. They have some good-running, older loaner cars (call ahead for availability) IF you currently carry FULL COVERAGE AUTO INSURANCE. More than fair. IF YOU ARE DRIVING/BEING TOWED: Best approach is from I-440, exit 21st Avenue OR from I-65 Wedgewood to Magnolia and right on 21st OR from Music Row - 17th to (becomes) Magnolia, then right on 21st. Other approaches can be problematic, traffic-wise.

I own Hillsboro Village Auto Service and I want to respond to the Bonnaroo post. We charge a fair price for the value we bring to automotive repair. We have a 4 year/48,000 mile warranty, A+ BBB Rating, are AAA Recommended, offer FREE Shuttle Service, FREE Loaner Vehicles, and we were voted #2 ""Best Of"" in the Nashville Scene. No one else in the repair industry offers a warranty as strong as ours. We use only the best parts available, normally original equipment. If you are only looking for the lowest price, then we probably aren't the shop for you. If however, you value top quality work and great customer service, then we would love the opportunity to earn your business. Ask about our Car Care Club, it will save you a bunch of money!!

We went to Bonnaroo 2010, and on our way one of our cars broke down in Nashville. We towed it to a friend's house, and he took it to Hillsboro Village Shell & Auto. Most of our party are engineers from an automotive school, and we knew that the issue was the fuel pump, which is about a 2-3 hour job depending on how long it takes to drop the fuel tank. Parts for the job would've cost ~$130, and at a liberal labor rate of $100, we expected to pay between $300-400. The estimate that Hillsboro Village Shell & Auto gave us was $800. Any way you cut it, this shop was screwing us over. Probably because we had out-of-state plates and we were in a pickle. They say that the true judge of character is how well you treat strangers. Hillsboro Village Shell & Auto is a complete failure in that respect.

Pros: Ex: strong margaritas, heated patio

      Cons: Price gouging

      Business Response:

People say perception is reality, but we absolutely do not price gouge, and we are sorry you feel this way. Our cost on that pump was more than $130. When you offer a 4 yr/48,000 mile warranty, one year nation-wide warranty and FREE loaner vehicles you can't charge Auto-Zone prices or back yard mechanic prices. We install only the best available parts and stand behind them better than any one in the industry! The price you wanted to pay would come with a 6 month/6000 mile warranty if any warranty at all. My family recently broke while traveling in south Georgia. The shop installed a used A/C compressor, without my knowledge, until I was paying for it. They did not call with a quote, only called when finished. It came with a 6 month warranty and began leaking within 3 days. They charged me $400 for this repair, which my own shop would have charged $700-$800 at retail. Who does a better job of serving their customers??

This place came highly recommended from a friend. I was merely looking for my car to be serviced which is basically doing all of the diagnostic tests plus an oil change. I left to find scuff marks and scratches on the bumper of the passenger side. The scuff marks were white and the car parked next to mine when I picked it up was white (belonged to Good Neighbor)! I trusted them with my car and when I confronted them about it they reassured me that there was no way possible that this happened there but the evidence is there with the white car. I am extremely disappointed. On top of that Brent told me that I was being a jerk about it and that I should get my car serviced elsewhere, as if I would ever come back. Please beware of this place. I was willing to pay more for a great experience because I want to do what is right for my car and I trusted them to handle my car with care. Now I am left to get my bumper replaced... I would have had better luck at Jiffy Lube.

Went in for an exhaust repair/replacement. Was charged $50 for the privilege of getting an estimate -- never had that happen before -- and quoted $1000 for the total repair. I'd had the same repair done on two other cars, and I had never paid over $500. Usually I would expect the mechanic to tell me the details of the repair, but that didn't happen. The person in front just handed me the estimate and expected me to shell out $1000.\n \nTurns out they hadn't even tried to save the catalytic converter, which would explain a couple hundred dollars. But even taking that into account, the price was ridiculously high. I don't mind paying a little extra for quality work, but this was just a ripoff. \n\nI ended up going to another shop, which did save the converter, and repair ended up costing $500, as I'd expected. \n\nI'll grant the person in front is friendly but that doesn't mean much when the mechanics are trying to take advantage of the customer. I wouldn't trust this shop with anything more than an oil change. Definitely get some other (free!) quotes on big repair jobs.

      Pros: friendly service in front

Cons: overpriced; didn't explain estimate; suggests unneeded parts

After an hour of trying to jump my car in the parking lot of a hotel I was staying at in Nashville for the night, Brent helped me out immediately. Turns out I had just left some lights on without realizing it, but he was friendly and cheerful the whole time. He let me know what was going on and I was on my way with only a 3 hour delay (which was mostly the fault of AAA, not of the shop at all). Not that I'd ever want that to happen again, but if it were to, I hope I'm lucky enough to end up at a place like Good Neighbor.

I work on the Vandy campus and desperately needed an oil change without having to wait until after work. I decided to take my SUV to this little place in Hillsboro Village so that I could just walk back to work. It was ready right when they said it would be. I just walked back over and picked it up. It was only $30 for the oil change, fluids/tire pressure checked, etc, and it's a little more expensive for me b/c I have an SUV, so if you have a car, it may be even less than $30. The girl at the counter was very nice and helpful. No one tried to sell me anything extra like those other chain places do. I couldn't have been more satisfied. I love that can now have auto repair done close by while I'm working so I don't have to waste my personal time after work. I also like that I'm giving my business to a LOCAL place!!

I work very close to this station and have depended on them for years for full service. Whether you want them to pump your gas or change your tire or perform ANY type of service on your car, this is the place for you!

As you probably know, full service stations are not that common anymore. They are very knowledgeable and fair here and don't take advantage of women!

      PROS: Great location
      CONS: none

I've always been pleased with the service from Hillsboro Village Auto. The mechanics are honest and will take the time to make sure you understand what they are doing to your vehicle and why. Their repair prices are about average for this area.
