This is a wonderful place to visit. It's a nice, family environment that is fun for everyone. My son loves how close you can get to the exhibits- many you can even touch. The gift shop is also very nice.

Great Fun

by Marilyn H.

I have been a member of the Aquarium since it opened. Each and every visit brings new advertures, along with the great exhibits that I will never tire of. Additionally, last year a new addition was added which has enhanced the whole experience.

It is great for families, dates, young, old. It doesn't matter. You will enjoy the experience.

Wonderful attraction in Chattanooga!!!

by Lee M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,141

We absolutely loved this place!!!
The pirahna held my husbands attention.
Anything that the kids got to touch like the manta ray was the highlight of the trip for the boys. And I enjoyed the Butterfly display. Photo opportunity was great to take pictures of the kids with butterflies landing all over them.

Above all the best place to take the kids other than rock city.

PROS: Educational, Fun and Well Worth your day!!!
CONS: REALLY CROWED on a Saturday. Go during the week.

Great time-Expensive family outing!

by Clay P. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 11,210

Like the other reviewers, we had a great time at the Aquarium. They have rotating exhibits so you can go back and see something new. I liked how they focused on the freshwater fish from the local nickajack lake. However, it was pretty expensive to go for a family of five and really ate into our vacation budget. They do offer a year pass for family's and that is probably the way to go next time. It is located in such a great area as well, you can walk around downtown Chattanooga when you are done-great touristy stuff!

Outstanding aquarium experience

by Amy O. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,196

The Tenneessee Aquarium is a truly amazing aquatic experience. There are several 'habitats' to explore, most of them freshwater, and the care that has been taken in the design and display of the tanks is very apparent. Themain walkway is built in such a manner that you walk down a series of ramps and can view several of the largest takns from several different levels. There's also a 'petting' area where you can handle some of the larger fish- a delight for young children. And the seahorse exhibit is truly magical- the leafy seadragons in particular. My family loved it so much that we bought a membership!

Great experience.

by J W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,883

We have been to the Chatt Aquarium several times - with family, by ourselves and on school trips with our grandson. Every time has been a fresh experience. They have several exhibits that rotate and bring in new fish and marine life for us to view. It is kind of pricy but there are discounts available at the local Welcome Center located nearby.

Beautiful!

by Tiffany C. | insider Insider | Rank: 18,437

The Tennessee Aquarium is a very beautiful place to visit. Not only is it beautiful, but it's also very educational. The Aquarium recently opened an addition which I have yet to see but I've heard wonderful things about it. The Aquarium is on the water which really adds to feel of the place. The location can't be beat, especially for out of town visitors. There are a lot of restaurants and things to see within walking distance. The IMAX, Bijou and Creative Discovery Museum are also located really close to the Aquarium.

Incredible viewing

by Tonya B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,114

We love taking our family to the aquarium in Chattanooga. They have recently expanded and added another huge building with more exhibits. They have featured exhibits that rotate but have many standard areas that show you fish from many different waterways and systems. Easy to view from a walking path. It is pricy but special discounts are available from the Welcome Center.

The best aquarium in the world!

by Tiffany T. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,090

We live more than 200 miles away from this aquarium and we have a season pass. That should tell you what a great place it is. You get to move along at your own pace, looking longer where you like and skipping over what you don't. This is an amazing experience! Both of my children, ages 11 and 7, love it. They would go every weekend if they could. Highly recommended!

An excellent attraction.

by Heather F. | insider Insider | Rank: 16,124

The Tennessee Aquarium is a fabulous way to spend a day. The venue is incredible & they have the most extensive collection of fish in the southeast United States. It's definitely worth the price of admission.

Best Aquatic Center

by Jenifer G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,329

I love this attraction. It is ideal for family outings or just friends going they have all types of things to do. And several species of animals. The Aquarium does have quite a bit of floors and requires a lot of walking but they do have wheelchairs for the people who can not walk the whole thing. Every animal that is in this aquarium has great detail about the animal on a plaque next to where they are. I consider this place very educational and exciting you never know what knew animal they are going to have next.

Great Aquarium for the City of Chattanooga

by Anonymous

The Chattanooga Aquarium is really impressive. It's a great place to take both kids and adults. We have taken our daughter there as well as my Grandparents.

The design of the aquarium is really neat. Upon entering you first go downstairs to view the sea horse gallery (which is really cool) and then take an escalator to the very top of the building and work your way down in a zig zag fashion. There are huge tanks on both side of you, as well as off shoots on both side that have different displays.

The original building, now called River Journey features fresh water fish. The new building, called Ocean Journey features saltwater fish as well as a butterfly garden. The two buildings are side by side, but not connected, so you do have to stop outside to get into the second building. The second building also has tunnels which you walk through, and can see the fish swimming around you.

If you are in Chattanooga for a few days, look into combination tickets for the Aquarium, I Max theater and Creative Discovery Museum, as you can purchase them at a discount.

PROS: Clean, well layed out and a lot of fun
CONS: Gets a bit expensive

Fantastic place for families to learn about fish

by Shannon W. | insider_guru Insider Guru | Rank: 1,501

This is a great place to take your family to learn about fish. THey have many exhibits & shows to educate you & thrill your whole family. They have a lot of tanks for viewing including a huge community tank with sharks & other things to thrill young ones. They also have a petting tank where little ones can giggle as fish tickle their fingers.

They are home to over 12,000 animals including, fish, reptiles, butterflies, amphibians, invertebrates, birds & much more. Be sure to see their interesting Seahorse exhibit where kids & adults can learn all about these facinating creatures. Also they recently added a new section with marine life saltwater fish and sharks.

Everytime we've been here, we haven't wanted to leave because there is so much to do & since it's right in the heart of downtown & near so many other activities, you can plan a really fun day of sightseeing, shopping & fun.
I should also mention that outside the aquarium they have a little sidewalk park for kids where water spurts out of little holes everywhere in the ground. It's a little kids' delightful paradise if they like water.

This aquarium is one of the best though and we've found it to be clean, well taken care of & even the cafeterias have great food in them. There's also some really cute gift shops you'll want to visit before you leave. All in all, this place can mean a great place for a date or a family fun day. Admission price is $17.95 for adults & $9.50 (child 3-12). You can also purchase combo tickets that include the nearby IMAX theater which is in walking distance.

PROS: Fantastic place for a date or family fun trip
CONS: A little expensive but worth it since it takes care of the animals.
