My friend and I visited Ellendale's for Thanksgiving dinner. We made reservations a month in advance, but when we got there the reservation didn't count for anything. We waited over an hour, outside, in 50 degree weather. The only reason we held-out and waited is because it was Thanksgiving and we knew it would have been near impossible to get in somewhere else without a reservation. After the hour wait, we were escorted in by a very rude hostess that we found out later was the owner's daughter, and seated in an overly crowed and noisy room. They had some of the guests seated on LAWN furniture. The food was second-rate and the total of the bill (per person, before tip) was $36.00. It was absolutely one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The food was barely better than a golden corral, and the price was outrageous for the wait. I often travel for holidays and must eat out for holiday dinners. I have never waited for more than 10 minutes, with a reservation, and the food has always been 10xs better than this. I will never go to Ellendale's again.

Seen some negative reviews about TGiving. Made that meal in 2009 and it was better than excellent. Going for 2010 TGiving meal and expect it will be fantastic. I will say I'm not a big fan of the daily meals but they go all out for

My family enjoyed a great four day weekend reunion and birthday party in late October. Based on a recommendation I tried for two weeks to get a reservation for 18 at Ellendales. During each call I was told the Manager would call me back to confirm details. After four attempts and never a call back I made reservations at Mambu's and we had a great reunion meal with incredible service. Don't know anything about the food at Ellendales, we couldn't get a response.

Went here for lunch with my husband, we ordered the coconut shrimp and prime rib. while the food was promptly delivered, and the shrimp were amazing, the prime rib was a great cut but not the rural-herb-encrusted seared that my husband likes. it was sent back and an apologetic waitress filled his plate with ribeye. It was a valiant effort to correct the situation, just a little too late. The ribeye was fatty and overcooked slightly. We left thinking that it would be the last time. We went back again tonite with his parents. The waiter remembered us from the other day, and immediately brought out a free 10$ fantastic appetizer. The rest of the meal was so well-timed and pleasant, the owner even came out to ask if this was better. The quality of the food was really the best I've had in a restaurant. If we ever come back to Nashville, even to visit We'll eat here again. They bent over backwards to see that our experience was the best. Go Ellendale's!!

While on a business trip, three of us dined here and ordered prime rib. Bad Mistake!! This was not like any prime rib I had ever eaten. All the orders had a great deal of fat and lots of gristle. Don't know if the knives were dull or if the meat was just tough but we all had trouble cutting our meat and they weren't overcooked so that wasn't it. We told the waiter and when he brought our bills he said that he was going to bring us a surprise. He brought a plate with several desserts that were one bite servings. So if this was supposed to make up for the poor food it didn't work. Everything greatly overpriced. If the prices were cheap it would have been ok to have inferior food.

i've been there once.it was for my stepfathers birthday. he wanted to try their sunday brunch so we went. the service was really good. my husband is a vegetarian so the waitress helped us pick something off the menu for him and he enjoyed it. i had the brunch buffet that i have heard mixed things about and i was not impressed at all. i hate to say that because i really like the atmosphere but the food was just eh.

Had Mother's Day reservations for 2:30. We weren't seated promptly.
They had overbooked to the point that they ran out of some food. One of which was the smoked salmon. At $28.00 a piece, this item was one of the reasons we chose to eat there in the first place.
During our meal, a lizard ran across the floor (inside)...not very sanitary. With the brunch a buffet, I had to wonder where else that lizard had been.
If you want brunch, go to Cracker Barrel.

This is such a great restaurant. I only wish I lived closer so I could go more often. They have great buffets with lots of delicious choices. The pasta bar is so good! I hear they have a mimosa bar also ... I will definitely need to come back for a Sunday brunch. They have very friendly employees that make you feel right at home. I would definitely recommend this place!!!

My husband and I usually eat at Darfons, which is really good, but they were on an hour an a half wait so we went to Ellendale's because their parking lot was empty. We probably hadn't been there for maybe 2 years because last time we went the food was really cold and we had really bad service.I guess nothings changed. After we sat down at out table the hostess poured us water. After that we didn't see our waiter and get any drinks ordered for prbably at least 5 minutes, maybe more.
When our waiter finally showed up he was gross. He smelled like a big cigarette and had his face pierced and just looked really dirty. He didn't seem to care that we waited so long and spent all of his time up front talking with the hostess. After being in the restaurant for 20 or 25 minutes we finally got to order dinner. It took about 30 minutes after that to come out, and when it did, my hisband's filet was almost burnt instead of medium, and my chicken was really cold. The girl that brought us our food to looked like she was homeless. Her hair was matted and dirty and she also had a bunch of weird earrings in her face. Their staff looks really messy. It made me lose my appetite. Our waiter didn't come check on us for like 5 minutes after that, and when he did he smelled like a big cigarette again. He seemed to get offended that we sent back our food. We waited another 15 minutes to get our food with nothing but stale bread rolls to eat. When it came out the second time, my husbands steak was pretty much raw this time. My chicken was hot, but it seemed like microwave hot because the middle was really really hot. Super gross. We just ate our meals because by this time we were starving, and obviously they weren't going to get it right. We got a piece of cheesecake bought for us at the end of the meal. But the coffee both of us ordered never came out. We should have just went on a wait over at Darfon's. It would have been cheaper and their staff always looks nice and neat.

I've only ever been to Ellendales for the brunch on Saturday, so I'm not sure how the rest of the menu is. But the five times I've been for the brunch I've been really pleased with the food. I've been with a group of about 7 people and we were taken care of by our waiter. I've also been with just my husband and we've enjoyed the food. We've only had a bad waiter once. The food at the buffet has been pretty varied every time so it's given me a good opportunity to try different things and I've enjoyed most everything I've had. The buffet is really good and I definitely will be back for that.

As fans of Ellendale's in the past few years, we made a 7:45 dinner reservation on Valentine's Day. We arrived about 15 minutes prior to the time and the entry foyer was crowded with people who appeared to have been there for a while. We were told to visit the bar and found it to be equally as crowded. I found a spot in between several other couples against the stairway, and my date went to the bar to get us a drink. While I awaited his return, a waiter made his way through the foyer lined with customers and dropped the tray of entrees. Some of the customers were splattered with food, but no one seemed to care or offer to help them. Food stains were left on the carpet. My date returned from the bar after an extended period of time and told me it had taken so long because someone else got our drinks. To make up for it, the bartender did give my date a double instead of the single he had paid for. About 30 minutes past our reservation time, we were taken upstairs and seated by a friendly waiter, who was "going to take good care of us". He took our order promptly and quickly returned with a prawn salad with two prawns and a little bit of lettuce on which you could not see and barely taste the dressing. The soup, sherry and wild mushrooms, came out next and was actually very good, in fact the best part of the meal. After the sorbet was served, it took a while to get the prime rib entree. The first several bites of mine was all fat and no meat. Both mine and my date's were barely warm but did have a good flavor. The waiter became less and less scarce as our water glasses were empty and we had not received our dessert. He was bringing our check when he discovered he had not served our dessert. After about 15 minutes, we finally got it but were so disgusted that we could not enjoy it. What was to have been a romantic and enjoyable dinner turned into a night of frustration. It will be awhile, if ever, before we return to Ellendale's..

What the hell has happened to this restaurant?!?! My husband and I used to go there quite often over the years, and it's turned into a real disappointment. If you read this you're led to believe it's a steakhouse. If it is then focus on your meat! The cuts of steak are poor, compared to the price being charged. Last time I got the Prime rib it was PURE fat. Granted, one can expect a fattier cut, but not a piece(cold if I may add) that has at least 30% fat surrounding it. Maybe the chef could take 25 seconds and trim the fat off...pretty radical, I know. Of course, the chef can't even be bothered to use spell-check on the menu so what can you expect. To me, nothing says lack of caring like misspelling, because it takes no time to proof something, and it just makes you look like a lazy idiot if you don't. Can I point out the favorites I remember: soup DE jour...no, it's DU jour(learn your French if you feel inclined to use it, if not stick w/the complicated SOUP OF THE DAY!) , veneCian...where's that place? oh, you mean veneTian!, and my personal favorite, rouGfort...really? in that whole restaurant no one has ever heard of rouquefort!?! STUPID!!! (...just a sampling of the fun errors! Keep a menu, and when you're waiting FOREVER for your food you'll have something to do!!!) Now, back to the meat(or lack thereof) of it; as I've dined here over the years, the portions have got increasingly smaller, while the price has risen, risen, risen. My service the last couple of times I've been in there was lackluster at best, no one seems to care. Our food took a good 35-40 minutes to arrive, and was lukewarm when it did, and the most we could get was "well we've got a party upstairs that the line is working on' So, does that mean our 2 dinners don't matter? If that's the case then just be a catering hall, and you won't have to be bothered with our measly 2 ppl.
Anyway, don't go here. There's no need to, Darfon's is across the street and way better and cheaper.

This is Josijo again, citysearch wouldn't let me post another review for the same sight...was just reading thru these reviews and realized, THEY ARE POSTING FAKE POSITIVE REVIEWS!!! I've been to Ellendale's for a holiday brunch before, and much like Karripinwheel says, it's a chaotic mess. The two times we've been(Easter and Thanksgiving) we've had our families in from out of town, so it seemed easier then cooking. We went there on thanksgiving of '07, and had to wait probably 30 minutes past our reservation, ON A COLD PORCH with tepid hot chocolate, and that decided for us that it was the last holiday we'd go there. Reading justmyopinion37122's review, it doesn't ring true. How would a regular customer know the number of reservations?...about the restaurant being on tv?...and the wording just smacks of smoke being blown up ones a$&. Plus they didn't even really comprehend what Karripin was saying...she didn't say Cracker Barrel was awesome -- just the opposite; she implied that CB kind of sucked, but you'd still be better going there then Ellendale's. To me it seems like someone connected w/the restaurant posted the review so the first review one will see when they get to the page isn't negative. Well, get crackin' fake review writers!!! You've got a lot of BS'ing to do to repair these TRUE reviews!!!

I strongly disagree with the review below - the Thanksgiving buffet at Ellendale's this past Thursday was well worth the money. The selections at the various serving stations were outstanding and the food was delicious! The service was absolutely top notch as well. Apparently several others in the Nashville community like it as well as they had 1000 reservations that day and were featured on one of the local newscasts the night before. If the reviewer below uses Cracker Barrell as their barometer for good food, well that says it all about their taste and dining experiences.

Because of the smallness of my family we decided to go out for Thanksgiving. After a lot of research I decided upon Ellendale's. I was very disappointed by the whole experience. Our 6 PM reservations (made upon the restaurant's request) were not honored until 6:45.

When we finally made it into the chaos, which was the buffet stations, we found nothing organized or labeled. Rolls were burnt, cranberry sauce was overpowered by lemon, seafood soup had no evidence of seafood except the smell, and finding vegetarian friendly foods was next to impossible.

The dessert bar was fitted for a wedding, not Thanksgiving and there was no trace of traditional pies so often associated with Thanksgiving.

Overall the experience was not pleasant and the food was okay but nothing stood out.

For the amount of money we spent, one could feed a small tribe.

You're better off going to Cracker Barrel.

I used to LOVE Ellendale's... it was my very favorite place to go eat lunch (the buffet) for years. But in the past 3 years or so it has really, really gone down hill.

The prices went up about 3 times in the past couple of years, which I can totally understand because everything has gone up in price... but the quality of the food has really gone down 10 fold. The entrees have become boring/simple/common/cheap. The food is either over cooked, under seasoned or over seasoned. Very sad.

They used to have a really unique and/or elegant choice of lunch entrees, something everyone looked forward to every week. Where did the real Chefs go??? Now they offer really cheap, simple ordinary entrees. I could go to KFC or Shoney's for the same food and spent less. I really don't mind paying more if the food is really good. I miss the old Ellendale's. :-*(

We chose Ellendale's for the dinner party to celebrate our daughters college graduation. Our party of 11 had mixed reviews regarding the food but all enjoyed the restaurant setting. We had a private room and ordered off the menu and had very good service throughout the meal. Afterwards we spent a few minutes on the scenic front porch as our guests departed. All in all the experience met our needs but not much more.

Ellendale's is located in a beautiful old home perched on a hillside with a gorgeous view. Driving up to the restaurant is a visual delight. Regrettably when you enter you find a crowded, unfriendly restaurant. The food is just okay, but it is amazingly overpriced. The buffet line is always crowded and often several items are empty. You leave with a feeling of regret.

We had our first exerience at Ellendale's last night, and is was just okay. I was surprised how very few people there were in the dining rooms at 6 pm, some were even empty. The waitress was pleasant and attentive, no complaints there. We had the fried mozzearella, which had only 4 small pieces. I had the Romeo and Juliet steaks (one was tender and one was not) and my mom had the Stuffed Shrimp with Crab, which she said she did not really like. My entree was lukewarm at best and it seemed that it had been sitting out a while. We liked the bread variety and herbed butter. I would have expected better salad dressing if it was homemade, and it seemed very watered down to me. Overall, for the price we paid, there are much better places in Nashville than this.

My friend had made a reservation for 7:45 p.m. I arrived shortly before he arrived (at about 7:35), and I was treated very kindly by the hostess, offered seating in the restaurant until he arrived. He arrived promptly, and we were seated immediately. The table was near the live music, and the ambience was elegant, spacious, yet intimate. We were attended to right away, and our appetizer and the main course were presented to us in a very timely manner, as well as the dessert. The food was delicious, presented beautifully, nice size servings. He had seafood, I had chicken. He had dined there several times and commented that everything is good there; I do know that our selections were good indeed.

I highly recommend it for ambience, price, service, music, prompt seating, etc.

Ellendale's is my favorite restaurant in the Nashville area, and I eat there every time I visit. In fact, on my second to last trip I left the airport, dropped my luggage off, and went straight there for the happy hour, finishing up with dinner.

On my most recent trip to the area, I ate at the restaurant three different nights in a week and a half, and was pleased each time. I found the wait staff friendly and competent, and the food was excellent as always. I really enjoyed the new salad offerings and menu choices. The brandy sauce on the Seafood Cleopatra was to die for, and the portobello fries were an excellent appetizer, though my favorite entree was probably the prime rib with the white truffle butter - nice new options on an old favorite.

Ellendale's is hands down one of the best dining experiences I have ever had - the atmosphere is great, I love the quaint set-up of the old house, and the food is just fantastic. It's clear that no corners are cut in the food preparation, as I have seen in other fine dining establishments. Makes me glad for the opportunity to travel! I will definitely return.

Before Christmas, I made reservations at Ellendale's for a group of 40+ women from where I work. I contacted them two weeks before the lunch date to make the reservations, and I called the day before to give the manager a more specific headcount, which, in fairness, was a smaller group than originally anticipated. The next day when our group showed up, the restaurant didn't have any record of the reservation! It was very embarrassing for everyone. They ended up putting us in an upstairs room (stuffy and inconvenient) but at least the servers tried to accomodate us. Unfortunately, the buffet ran low of food, but eventually they restocked it, and no one left hungry. One other glitch: One woman from my group had called earlier that morning and been told that she would be able to order from the menu, but when she asked the server about that, she was told that she couldn't. I like Ellendale's, but I will definitely think twice before booking a large group there again.

This restaurant has great food. The lunch buffet is excellent with lots of variety and very tasty food. Their Sunday brunch is also very good with fresh made omelets with the ingredients you want in them. The service there is very good. We have never had a bad meal there. It is always busy so expect a wait...but it is worth it.

This place is an old house that is now a restaurant. I enjoyed the atmosphere, it was very nice but not overdone. There was a gentleman singing, and another on the piano. That was nice but maybe a bit loud. We ordered the cheese plate, which was enjoyable. My boyfriend ordered a seafood bisque, which he said was excellent. For dinner, I had a bleu cheese stuffed filet. It was enjoyable to the last bite, although not that much bleu cheese in it. The steak was tender and enjoyable. My boyfriend enjoyed the wine list as well as his smoked ribeye. I tried his steak, and it was very smokey. It was unique, and that was refreshing. The dessert list was small but looked great. I enjoyed this restaurant.

This used to be my favorite place to eat in Nashville, but over the past year or two Ellendale's has steadily declined in class and service. My husband and I waited there on Valentine's day for about 45 minutes, and that was our wait time with a reservation. They are so concerned about QUANTITY, and have forgotten the importance of QUALITY at Ellendale's. Upon one other experience, we waited in the tiny foyer to be seated as the tour bus load of people shoved their way through. The floor plan is not accomodating for this kind of traffic. My LAST and final visit involved the worst service experience I have ever had. Our waiter was missing in action the entire time, and the other wait staff was very unconcerned (even after I had to ask them to find him at least three times- for drinks, for coffee that never arrived, and finally for our check). Also, there was a child setting up tables and touching silverware on all of the tables in the particular room that we dined in. The response to our complaints from the owner was an offer of 50% off of our next visit. Oh, and she also explained that she was sorry, our waiter was very busy, and the other staff was unaware (this is after she had feedback from her staff to see what was really going on- she called us back to tell us this). Aside from the lack of quality and service offered at Ellendale's, the ceiling was cracked and stained in the room that I last dined in. The Restaraunt was recently added onto, but it is in need of a few obvious cosmetic repairs. Once again, the quantity factor outweighs the quality. This is such a shame; I used to love this place.

I am very disappointed in the direction of Ellendales. It was our staple good restaurant in this area. Over the past few years we have seen changes that we have accepted though not enjoyed. We were SO pleasantly surprised to find a diamond in the rough that we visited over and over. We enjoyed our first few meals immensely. Good food. Good service. Good price. The last few times we went, however, were sorely disappointing. The food had gone down in quality. The menu has not changed since we started going there but the taste HAS! We always ordered our favorites, but precooked processed chicken and canned sauces is not on the list, and that is what Ellendales has become. They will never gain their 4 star rating and they have definetely lost there 3 if they haven't already. So much potential lost.

As a travelling businessman, I find myself dining out quite frequently, and have had the full spectrum of dining experiences. Ellendale's Restaurant was a pleasant suprise. Recommended to me by the concierge at Opryland Hotel, the food and the service was amazing. My server was knowledgable and helped me find just the right cabernet to compliment my delicious bacon wrapped, blue cheese stuffed filet. After my dinner, I moved to their lounge area, to enjoy a nice glass of port and listen to their live jazz music. I would recommend this place to anyone looking to "get away" from the mundane and experience a very nice, classy meal in a unique setting.

This restaurant had been our "special place" for Valentines and anniversary. Although the last 2 visits
had not been up to standard because of waiting over 30 minutes for our RESERVATION, we went again for sentimental reasons. NEVER AGAIN!! We had a 7:30 reservation and although this time we were seated
within 10 minutes and our salad was served to us by 8:00, after many excuses and 2 visits from the manager promising it would be worth the wait, we were not served our dinner until after 9:00!!! Needless to say, we were pretty upset as well as extremely hungry so we even tried to eat the meal although it was NOT as ordered!! I was served roast potatoes when I had ordered mashed potatotes but as I was so hungry I tried to eat them. They were so HARD and cold that I thought I had broken a tooth at one point and
actually had to expel them in my napkin. By this time, I was almost in tears and my husband was livid as well as his steak was cold except for the sauce on top of it. It was apparent that something had gone very wrong in the kitchen. Our waitress offered many excuses and was truly upset for us as she had shared in watching me open my anniversary gift. She stated they had a new chef, etc. and she had to bring the manager back to our table on our third request. At this point, we left in disgust and still hungry.
Needless to say, after 5 years as customers, we will find a new "special" place as Ellendales is certainly
not special to us anymore! Maybe one day we will be able to laugh at the 'ruined" anniversary.

Mkae no mistake - the food here is good and reasonable priced. The wine list is long, with about half available by the glass. The ambiance is excellent, including live jazz/piano even on weeknights.

The service, however, is not par with the food or ambiance. The waitstaff is very young and the bartender (I sat at the bar) was largely unattentive - never checked on meal after serving and left an empty wine glass sit for half my entree. While I can't speak for the table servers, they too looked young and were dressed averagely.

If this place had better service, it would be superb.

We visited Ellendale's Saturday brunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. I knew my eating would be limited by avoiding a number of foods due to allergies. When I asked about ingredients in various items on the buffet, the chef came out to help me figure out what I could eat. Although there were several items I could have, he also offered to prepare a safe dish just for me, which was really delicious. It was a wonderful meal!

THis is truly my favorite place to eat in Nashville. I've been eating there for 3 years. It's true that I've had a few issues (undercooked salmon) but they have ALWAYS made it right by free dessert or taking it off our bill. You can not beat the price. If this place was downtown, they could TRIPLE their prices! Try the Salmon and Scallops, it's delicious. Also have a wonderful wine list!!

Do not go to Ellendales for Valentines Day! My husband and I went last year and everything was great so we decided to come back this year. We made reservations and still had to wait 20 minutes . They hiked the prices up drastically from last year because they were serving a 5 course meal for Valentines Day only. This was not on their website so it was a surprise to see prices starting at $50 per plate. We thought, hopefully the food will be worth it, but it did not meet our expectations for the price. I can see paying this kind of money for 4 star quality food and service but this was not it! By the time we had dinner, drinks, and left a tip we spent almost $200. We will not be returning for dinner here again. The brunch, however is very good on Sunday.

I visited this restaurant for the first time about a year ago and wasn't very impressed. I never thought about going back until I was invited to go last night with a friend. Ellendale's was a very cramped restaurant in the past but they've recently added on a new "entertainment dining wing" that is absolutely fabulous. You'd just have to see it for yourself. The best improvement would have to be the food-SO MUCH BETTER. Even the side salad and bread were awesome. The server could have used a lil more personality but he didn't make any mistakes and brought us what we asked for. I've read a lot of bad reviews about this place but they're worthy of a second chance. Go see for yourself.

What a waste of time and money!!!! This has to be the worst dining experience I have ever had. The food was average at best and luke warm when it arrived at the table. The only positive thing the place has going for it is the live entertainment, which is above average but loud. I do not recommend taking anyone you like to this place!!!

Too cramped to be very romantic. Our table was less than 1 inch from 2 other tables chairs. Very small table for 2. Trying to get too many people in too small an area. Service was very, very slow. Over 2 hours with a reservation and lots of down time without food. The food was really good, but not worth the time it takes to get it.

Cons: expensive, little parking, too crowded
