Food is good, servings are slight, staff is arrogant and I overheard them bickering over a table because they knew the party was a big tipper... tacky
and they have roaches the size of my foot...

The atomsphere here is excellent! Unfortunately I picked the wrong thing to eat for every course except dessert. If you are a scallops fan though- you probably would have really enjoyed what I ordered. The creme brulee was the highlight for me and also the great wine list! For an added perk, Gweneth Paltrow was there the same night. On the downside, our server was very awkward and really didn't sell the menu like I hoped. I had never been and wanted a little bit more guidance and explanation than he was able to give. Also another server there looked like she had just rolled out of bed. When I go to a upscale restaurant like this I want servers to match. Maybe it was because we were there on a Sunday and they were very slow but I was just not at all impressed with the service. I would have really just called this dinner experience a disaster if it hadn't been for the fabulous dessert and who I was spending a relaxing Sunday night with. I will probably try this place out again sometime but not anytime soon I'm sure but I would recommend this restaurant to someone looking for a romantic meal.

Cons: Service- some servers did not suit the environment

I took my sister, who is in culinary school, in hopes of offering her a taste of high end southern cuisine. The abiance was very old-school southern with peachy brochade and heavy carving. Check. The service was fabulous. check. Unfortnately , the food *could* have been great but it was seriously lacking in salt. Now, I hate salty cooking. I rarely add salt in my own, personal, home cooking. But a little salt is rather important. You might counter, "well then, why not add your own salt". Ah, I would have *if * salt had been provided, but the chef was not intending his diners to add their own salt for salt was not on the tables. The desserts, however, were fabulous - beautiful, interesting and just the right amount of heavy. We wanted to bundle up the pastry chef and take them home with us.

Cons: food a little lacking, value

This is a first class place. The food is consistently good. I would recommend to anyone... nothing scary here just all-american food.

My husband and I thought the Capitol Grille would be the perfect accompaniment to a night at the theater on Valentines Day, but we were sadly mistaken. Once our party of four arrived, our server STRONGLY suggested we order the special Valentine's Day 5 course meal. He also told us that if one person at the table wanted the special then we should ALL get it because it would throw the timing off everything. (aka...he would have to work a little harder.) Even though I couldn't decipher what was actually being offered on the special menu, one person in our group wanted it, so we all felt obligated to do so also. Besides, they only had a few other items you could choose from if you didn't get the special. So for $95 a person plus $60 each for the wine pairing we all anticipated culinary delight.

The first thing that arrived at our table "compliments of the chef" was the tiniest teaspoon size bite of lobster salad you've ever seen. I'm not complaining, it was a "gift" after all, but it was definitely a clue to how the food was to be the rest of the evening...nonexistent. In the four courses before dessert all the food combined MAY have been 3 ounces. Thank goodness for chocolate mousse or I would have starved to death. It would have been nice if our server had poured the wine that paired with each course while we were actually eating that course...not after and onto the next. It would have also really been nice if the air conditioning weren't blowing so hard on our table that I had to wear my winter coat during the entire meal. It would have been super nice if, after spending all that time, money, and energy, we didn't leave the restaurant hungry.

I have been to many fine resaurants and none have been so pretentious and a waste of time as this one. If you like your entire dinner to fit in the palm of a very small hand, then this is the place for you. As for me, the Capitol Grille is WAY too frou frou.

Pros: Hermitage Hotel is beautiful, near TPAC, the dessert was good.

Cons: Pretty much everything else was not up to standard.

I decided to take my girlfriend out to dinner since we didn't get to see each other on Valentine's Day due to me being a line cook. I chose this restaurant based on everything I have heard and read about it. i wanted to experience everything the restaurant had to offer, so i requested a tasting menu. This was the best decision i could have made. Every course of the 9 that we had was fantastic. It included such items as Foie gras mousee, veal tongue, burgundy truffles, sweet breads, and various emulsions. My girlfriend is pretty picky, and with all of organ meat on the menu i thought she would not enjoy the meal, but from the amuse bouche on she continued eating. that just goes to show that the chefs here are top notch. If you can get a normally picky eater to eat bluefin tuna toro, veal sweetbreads, and veal tongue, you know you are doing something right. our server was amazing and extremely knowledgeable. overall the experience was amazing.

Pros: Everything

Cons: nothing. we were treated like royalty

Elegant, subdued, classic. Very nice ambience. My beef tenderloin was superb. My wife?s sea bass was excellent. Coconut cake was very good. The oyster stew was good, but would probably try something different as a starter next time.
The staff was attentive without being overbearing. Our waiter asked us almost immediately if we were going to the theater that evening and what time we needed to be there. He kept the meal on-track but not rushed.

This restaurant has realy gone downhill. Staff lacks knowledge, dirty carpets, etc. There are so many other options in the city that the Capitol Grill is no longer the only upscale dining option available. The hotel also is not as concerned with the customer service as it once was. It's a shame.

Pros: Bragging rights-this used to be a five star restaurant

Cons: It's now a two star restaurant

.

Not even close to 5 stars. The barmaids were more interested in talking to each other and had no clue as to what spirits they were serving (i.e. after asking them about items behind the bar they would say "it's good" or "I like it"). The restaurant was better but way overated. The funny thin is, I found out that other Citysearch comments that were posted were by other hotel employees (tonyasean - the Chef & reminias - the Hotel Manager for example). What a joke!

My fiancé and I recently moved to the area and we were extremely impressed with this restaurant. The food was incredible and the service was outstanding. Our server's name was Connie and she was very friendly and also recommended several other restaurants in the area for us to try. While there you must also check out the men's restroom. It was restored to the original art deco design and is definitely not something to be missed. This is a must for anyone going out for a special night out.

My wife and I enjoyed a very favorable evening at Capitol Grill. We found the bar staff and waiter to be very well trained. The food was unique without being pretentious. I have suggested this to a number of business associates and friends. The prices were about what we see in most upscale restaurants in the Chicago Metro.

My husband and I went to Capitol Grill for my birthday. Although the atmosphere was very romantic (rose petals on the table), the food left much to be desired. We ordered the scallop appetizer, and for about $14 got TWO scallops (they were only okay - a bit chewy). I ordered a filet for dinner and asked for medium to medium-well. This filet had to be one of the driest and most uninteresting filets that I've ever ordered at a fine restaurant. It even had a good bit of fat that I had to trim off. When you spend over $200 for a meal for two, you expect everything to be just about perfect. We didn't even bother getting desert, but opted to go to F.Scott's for a more interesting enviornment. Definitely choose somewhere else for a "fine dining" experience.

From beginning to end, this is what a historical dining experience should be. Upon arival, the period-dressed doormen directed us to the underground bar. There the bartender, a gentleman with a pencil-thin mustache crafted the PERFECT martini and told us the history of the Hotel and restaurant. We then dined in the Capitol Grille. Every course was more impressive than the last. Roncie, our server was on top of everything through out the night. We then retreated to the upstairs lobby to finish our drinks on plush chairs by the fireplace. The all-male service staff accents the professionalism of the establishment. It doesn't get much better than this!

I was very disappointed. The service was impersonal and poorly trained. The tuna entree was very poor quality and the assistant waiter took the full plate away without a comment. After the waiter was told that the tuna was poor quality, he just curtly replied, "I wish I had known". Nothing was adjusted on the bill. We are avid diners at area restaurants and we will not be back to this disappointing stuffy restaurant.

I had dinner in the Capitol Grille 3 weeks ago with my wife. I was visiting from California and always wanted to see Nashville. This was my 1st visit to Nashville and I wanted to dine at the nicest place in the city. I asked the concierge at the Hermitage and she said you must eat with us in the Capitol Grille the chef is fantastic! We stay at many luxury hotels and it is important the the restaurant matches the hotel.

The service, food and abiance was exactly what we were looking for. I rate it with the top hotels and cuisines in the country. The Peninsula, Mandarin Orientals and even the Ritz and Four Seasons Hotels. I have already inform all my collegues and friends what a remarkable place to stay and eat. It rates a 10 for the fantastic experiance we had their. We will be back!

I took my boyfriend to the Capitol Grille for his 25th birthday and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The service was as spectacular as the food, and the atmosphere was beautiful. I don't think I could have picked a better place for us to celebrate in Nashville, and I would highly recommend this to everyone who is looking for the finest dining in Tennessee! P.S.- if you are planning to watch a show at TPAC, this is the perfect place to eat before you go!

After sampling a variety of Chef Brock's offerings, I can say that Capital Grille is one of the best restaurants in Nashville. The service in impeccable, the ambience inviting, and the food fantastic. Chef is using the finest ingredients available, and changing the menu frequently, so there will always be something new and exciting to try. I am in love with the foraged mushroom tart and the white truffle mac and cheese, but everything is fabulous! I can't say enough good things about my experience at the Capital Grille, and plan on returning many times.

Having been involved in the original renovation of the Hermitage Hotel in the early '80s, I have watched this Grand Dame hotel struggle through countless owners, staff, etc. Unfortunately, the food is still mediocre with overwrought sauces and wilted, lackluster salads (given the current owners also manage the restaurants at Kiawah Island I don't have much hope for an improvement). The wine list is extremely expensive (this from a collector not a novice). Lunch is great, but I would leave dinner to the monied lobbyists - about the only people that can afford an average dinner at a Wild Boar price.

If you haven't had dinner at the Capitol Grille you are missing out on the best that Nashville has to offer. I strongly suggest trying the Chef's tasting menu. I saw him on the news and he is only 25! A friend suggested the tasting menu and I figured I would give it a try?
The first course was a complimentary course called an "amuse bouche" of potato foam with a fingerling potato chip and Tennessee caviar, I didn't even know Tenn. had caviar but it was outstanding! Some other courses were diver scallop with citrus vapor. The server presented the dish and poured hot water over citrus zest at the table, and the aroma of fresh citrus was amazing with the orange sauce that accompanied it.We also had confit of pork belly with a fried quail egg and black-eyed pea vinaigrette..what an exciting dinner...the service was flawless. 5 star!!!

I RECENTLY WAS VISITING FAMILY IN NASHVILLE AND HAD THE OPPURTUNITY TO STAY AND ALSO DINE AT THE HERMITAGE HOTEL/CAPITOL GRILLE. MY DINING EXPERIENCE WAS TRULY 5 STAR!!! I FREQUENT FINE DINING ESTABLISHMENTS QUITE OFTEN AND NOTHING HAS BLOWN ME AWAY LIKE THE CAPITOL GRILLE. I HIGHLY SUGGEST THIS RESTAURANT FOR SINGLE DINERS. THEY OFFERED ME SOMETHING TO READ, THE WAITER, KRISTY, WAS ATTENTIVE BUT UNOBTRUSIVE. I HAD AN AFTER DINNER DRINK IN THE BAR AND ANDREA, I BELIEVE, WAS SO ATTENTIVE AND VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE HOTEL. I CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK TO NASHVILLE AND BRING OTHERS TO THIS FABULOUS RESTAURANT AND HOTEL.

I recently had dinner in the Capitol Grille for my 3rd wedding anniversary and it was the best anniversary by far. The staff made us feel like we were the only couple in the room that evening. They set our table with rosepetals, sent champagne as soon as we sat down, everybody that we encountered knew our name and that it was our anniversary. We had a special add-on with dessert that consisted of chocolate covered strawberries and our names personalized with chocolate. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone. Also, THe hotel is absolutely gorgeous, the manager, Ashley, I believe was her name gace us a tour of the Presidential Suite, and next anniversary you bet I am staying at the Hermitage Hotel!!

Easter Saturday was my first time at the Capitol Grill. It was terrific! The service, food and ambiance were incredible. I would highly recommend or any occasion. The new Chief is just fastastic!

This is by far the best restaurant I've been to in Nashville. It is very romantic and the food is wonderful. I highly recommend it.

I have always loved this restaurant. Their surf and turf is different (features veal and crab) and excellent. The service was wonderful, we were worried about a party member who didn't show up, so had to leave early, so our server included a complimentary sampling of all the deserts to go for us. This is also where I got engaged, and thus will alwas hold wonderful memories for me.
