When my family and I travel we prefer to eat at establishments that are different from the norm we have in our own home area. We saw Duff's sign clearly from the main road in Pigeon Forge; and I could recall frequenting one in Indiana some 20 years earlier (now long since gone); so we considered it as a possibility. I asked the front desk person at our hotel; and he said that Duff's was his favorite place in the area. Coupled with his review, my memories, and a $2 off per person coupon we found in a tourist guide and our decision to dine there was made.

(NOTE: I was told this is the very last Duff's Smorgasborg; and that one of the ladies who had worked there for 30 years had bought the place outright in 2008; so apparently many of the recipes have changed since she made the purchase.)

I'm one of those people who believe you should eat whatever you put on your plate at a buffet so as not to create higher prices due to wasted food; so I only take tiny portions of items my first run through the buffet (I'm especially finicky about the 'cold' items!). Having so stated, the cole slaw was excellent, the potato salad was different than any I have previously had; and was very good (Leans a little towards a german potato salad; but not nearly as 'stringent'.), and the macaroni salad was better than most buffets. The salad bar itself was well stocked, with freshly made bacon bits, which never hurts!

The main buffet line had cooked carrots that were NOT caramelized like you so often see...just plain carrots; however they were especially tender; so that there was barely a need to chew. The green beans were excellent as well.

The macaroni and cheese was only so-so. The pulled pork BBQ, roast beef and ham was delicious (A sweet sauce for afficionado's), the fried chicken, meat loaf, and salisbury steak were typical.

They had some corn dog nuggets which were actually quite tasty (had 2nd's on those); but the items that REALLY set Duff's apart; and for which we returned the next day, was their grilled "tater cakes" and grilled ham or roast beef with cheese. These items hearkened back to a more innocent time when little family restaurants were the norm on american highways instead of today's constant variety of fastfood joints.

If you want to go a bit beyond the 'norm', have them put BOTH the ham & roast beef together as your grilled sandwich!!!

While Duff's in it's current configuation will never be confused with a 5 star restaurant, for those who yearn for down home cooking, the fare here will be 5 star tasty!

Pros: Nice family atmosphere, reasonable price, 60-70's nostalgic.

Cons: While nostalgia is nice, some of the furniture needed repair

My husband and I stopped at Duff's on March 21,2009. It was late, we were tired and it wasn't crowded. HUGE MISTAKE!!!! If we had looked at the buffet before paying, we would have found the exit right then. Most of the time the waitress takes your plate when you go to the buffet. Ours left our plates and only took them when she wanted to. I have no idea what she was doing but being a waitress wasn't on her list. The buffet was as bad or worse than the service. It didn't have very many choices, you could tell it had been left out for a long time. The food wasn't hot and it was bland also. The guy working at the carving station sneezed but DID NOT wash his hands before touching the food. I hate to think what else he might have touched and not washed his hands before touching the food. Thank goodness he wasn't offering anyone any meat or potatoes. Needless to say after seeing that we left and went across the street for dessert and coffee. At one time, Duff's was a good place to eat. Now it's dirty, dingy and just a plain rip off. Their website looks nothing like it actually is. Please don't be fooled by it like we were. We had gotten married earlier that day and were on our honeymoon. I am so glad that was the only thing that spoiled our day. Otherwise, it was a perfect day. There are lots of other places to eat in the area that are far better. Take my suggestion, go to them and enjoy a good meal. We did the very next morning and we did enjoy a good meal at a better price. The service was excellent and no employee sneezed!!

This is the worst place I have ever tried! The food is not good or fresh. I got very sick after eating there. I would not go back even if it was free.

My husband and ate at Duff's Smorgasbord and the food was absolutely horrible. We should have known by the sign when you first go in that says you can be charge extra for food left on your plate.

When the former owner, Gene, was there, it was the worst restaurant in Pigeon Forge. The food was nasty as if it had been dropped on the floor. The buffet was underdone and the restrooms were nasty. The floors weren't clean and the servers were rude.Since Cissy has taken over, it has been vastly improving. The place is cleaner, the food better and the servers much more pleasant. There is one server, especially who went out of his way to make our visit one of the most pleasant we've ever had. Keep up the good work and we will keep returning many times.

My Girlfriend and I always travel to Gatlinburg every year. We ate at Duffs because it was in the old Fat Mans Pizza building. The food was horrible and we both wound up sick on our vacation.

My family and I visited Pigeon Forge last week and we ate at many good places. When we went to Duff's we expected the same great experience we had been from most of the other restaurants around town. Instead we paid at the front door before being seated. Then, we went in to a large buffet. We seated ourselves and went to the buffet to fill our plates. At the buffet we found instant mashed potatoes, canned green beans, packaged potatoes au gratin, canned meats, and other various instant foods. We tried to eat since we had already paid a big price to eat here. We were not able to eat the food. It was terrible. As we were leaving, 2 other families were leaving at the same time and everyone was complaining about the horrible experience we had at Duff's. PLEASE save yourself the sick feeling and go somewhere else. Now we know why they charge you instantly at the front door......because if they didn't most people would walk out after looking at the buffet. I hope this helps. I highly recommend Red Lobster, Mel's Diner, and Applewoods Restaurant. They were all great!!
