.

I don't usually write restaurant reviews, but feel this joint is exceptionally deserving of one given the excellent food and service.

The Memphis market for barbeque restaurants is quite frankly flooded. The vast majority of them are awesome, but for the most part they all taste the same. Bynum's is great, but it is also different.

I have eaten barbeque pork sandwichs at pretty much every major joint in the Memphis area: (Rendevous, Interstate, Corky's, Cozy Corner, Marlowe's, Tom's, Showboat, A&R, Central, Top's, Commisary, Coleman's, etc.). This joint is easily in the TOP THREE in terms of the sandwich (hands down) and arguably the BEST.

This is not only my opinion, but also the opinion of a friend. I took him on a Memphis barbeque tour through Showboat, A&R, Neely's, Central, and Bynum's. Having tasted all of their BBQ sandwichs, he thought that Bynum's was clearly the best.

The difference between Bynum and other joints in terms of the sandwich is how they use the Boston butt portion of the shoulder. As a result, when prepared for the sandwichs, this makes the meat more moist and less stringy, but also exposed more surface area to the flavorings. Their sauce is also good, but is different from what you find at other joints.

The proprietor is also especially kind and friendly. There was no place that I've been to in Memphis that has given more personalized service. For example, most restaurants will have a contract with coke or pepsi to supply some standard sodas. Since these restaurants only get a few sodas, they don't get sodas that are less in demand. So someone like me, who likes non-caffenated diet soda, can't get Sprite Zero or Diet 7-Up at most joints. But I could at Bynum's because the business tries to make sure its customers are satisfied.

There are two minor problems with the joint. One is its hours. Second is its parking. But these problems are easily resolvable by calling ahead to ask for hours and parking. They also provide catering and take-out in addition to the dine-in. The phone number is (901) 323-8227.

Bynum's is located at 1404 Airways Blvd, Memphis, TN 38114. (It is between Park Ave. and Lamar).

And remember that phone number!!! (901) 323-8227!!!
