I dont' have kids, but that hasn't kept me away from CMoM.
This place is actually a lot of fun, and you'll find yourself playing in all the exhibits. For a child, I'm sure this is also quite educational.
Be sure to check out special events here. There's always something new featured here every month.

The kids love it here!! They especially like going to the bank to get money and then they go to the grocery store and shop. They really like getting to check-out their own things at the cash register. My son also likes the airplane, fire truck and water activity where he can build dams and diversions and watch how the water flows.
The gift shop is overpriced. They do have special attractions at different times during the year. If you think you will go a few times in a year, I highly recommend getting a membership.

The museum has expanded which was necessary. So many children used the facility that at times it was so crowded one could barely move. The expansion has relieved some of that. The exhibits are well thought-out and show the curators' desires to entertain and educate the children at the same time. Everything is built on the child's level and pulls the child in getting them involved.
It's a beautiful and wonderous place. The gift shop is nice but I find the prices a little over stated. I'd get ideas then shop around before I"d buy there. I highly recommend a visit to this museum.

The Children's Museum of Memphis is a lot of fun for little people. Especially fun and memorable are the grocery store (you can go shopping!) and the exhibit on living like a person with special needs - what's it like to be blind? to need a wheelchair? The museum is very educational and has opportunities for special events like birthday parties.
