Went to lunch with my realtor...I waited ten minutes to be seated...no one in restaurant. Ordered scampi and asked for NO Parmesan cheese. I get my order and there it was. I asked for another and she told me to just scrape it aside. Sorry

Such a shame. Up until the entree everything was going great and we were talking about how we can't wait to come back. In the car on the way home, we were dumbfounded over the absolutely horrific decline in service. Credit where credit

My boyfriend and I decided to try out Mama Mia's after
seeing Best of Nashville sign out front. WRONG. I
believe my boyfriend ordered the absolute worst spaghetti
in Nashville. Maybe in Tennessee. It was this gross,
sweet sauce. Honestly, Ragu from a jar would have
been better.

The service at Mama Mia's is poor. Halfway through our
meal, our male server left the check at our table, which
I considered rude.

We have eaten at the best restaurants in Nashville;
and this is not one of them. If you want truly good
Italian food, try Sole Mios. You will not be disappointed.

My husband and I enjoy trying new restaurants and picked Mama Mia's for a Saturday date night - we had high hopes since it was voted 'Best of Nashville' for 2009. To our disappointment, there was a hair in our appetizer and a giant bug with 10 million legs crawling on the wall by our heads. We had to continually ask for water re-fills and our waiter wasn't attentive (rare for a family run establishment). Next time I drop $50+ bucks on sub-par Italian (without a wine list), I want it hair and bug free. I suppose that minus the run-in with the hair and bug, I would have given them 2 stars, but since the food wasn't that great on top of it, I feel 1 star is being very, very liberal.

Pros: It's close to Back to Cuba Cafe - which is wonderful!

Cons: mediocre food

This place was recommeded by a co-worker for it's great food at a reasonable price. He warned that it was easy to miss as it is a small building behind a gas station, but it was worth the search. White tablecloths, lit candles, and soft Italian music made it a nice romantic evening out. The food was excellent and made fresh. Excellent service, friendly wait staff. Will definitely do this again!!

Cons: None that I can think of

There is nothing at all unique or special about this restaurant, except to say that one could find better food in a jar of Spaghetti-O's. The pasta was ordered al dente but came out slimy & soggy. The sauce was very sweet and tasted like it was prepared by a rank amateur. The amount of pasta served barely covered the bottom of the plate and the price for it all was ridiculous. When I stated I did not like the pasta and wished to just pay for the salad, I was charged $6.00. Needless to say I will not return to this place anytime soon. Full blame for this is poor management and certainly not Sicilian. The cooks in the rear all spoke Spanish. Not a pretty sight.

This was an awful experience. We started with the crab stuffed mushrooms which were luke warm and flavorless. The house salad dressing is weak. Try Joey's in Brentwood if you want a good olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette. The shells stuffed with spinach, cheese and sundried tomatoes were flavorless as well as luke warm. The Vodka plate was served with chewy prosciutto (instead of crunchy), a greasy sauce and flavorless basil. The service was also lacking. Our server never came to our table for more than a 3 second period and neglected to refill our waters. If you like plywood enclosures and flavorless-old-people food, this restaurant would be right for you. If this is what it is like in Sicily (as they boast so much about being true to the Sicilian style), I don't want to go.

Pros: Ummmmm, $5 corking fee

Cons: The eating experience

My Husband and I went there last night with a group of friends about 20, we were all seated promptly, the service was good and the food was well prepared, we brought our own bottle of wine and the corkage fee was only $5.00 dollars a bargin!

My Husband had the seafood cantilona, I had spagetti and meatballs, garlic bread and a salad with tip the whole meal with a bottle of wine brought from home was $60.00 dollars, I thought it was a bargin!

The food at Mama Mia's is better than most of chains in the area. The setting is OK but seating is limited so expect to wait on weekends. The entres are the stars here. I had the Lobster ravioli, veal saltimbocca, etc.. All tasty but far from authentic or imaginative. They reuse the same 3 sauces for all of the dishes. The bread is like the stuff they give you at the Olive Garden which is to say it is like a hotdog bun and horrible. No self respecting Italian or Italian American would call the stuff good. The salads are OK I guess but lack the bitter greens that one would expect from an Italian restaurant. I guess if you are from Nashville and only have seen I-talians on TV you would think that is authentic.

If you??re looking to an alternative to the local chains but not looking for authentic Italian food give this a try.

We heard a lot of good things about this place. Maybe we shouldn't have had too high expectations. The server wasn't that attentive, and the food took a while to get to our table even though it wasn't busy at all. Taste? not bad, but for the price they charge, I'll find someplace else to be full.
It was our first time dining at Mama Mia, and it was the last time too.
I doubt how clean their food could be. Kitchen was right next to the restroom.

While Mama Mia's has beyond amazing Italian food, you should think twice about how it is being handled. Once again I will say no negative things about the food. Even though the people that own the restaurant are hard working, they do not know how to operate a sanitary restaurant. Having first hand knowledge of what goes on behind the scene it is not where it needs to be. The waiters & waitresses do not see it fit to thoroughly wash their hands before preparing any type of order. Some items are left over from the previous night and wait to be served the next day. How they're health score was a 92 I will never know. Also, the help does not give their main focus on the customers. People are waiting way too long to receive their checks and receipt in return. If you're looking for food that is extremely good, but not the most sanitary, then you have your spot.

I have nothing but good things to say about this restaurant's cuisine! I certainly have NEVER seen any health code issues as one couple wrote of in their summary of the place. I think it was just simply someone being vindictive because they weren't satisfied for whatever reason. I have been coming to the restaurant for years! The food is extraordinarily magnifico, the staff is friendly, though usually very busy. It's true there are some things that would make it a better "total" experience for dining, such as more parking, not having a "cork fee", and the orders being more expedient. But hey...it is what it is! Try getting faster service in a restaurant of this caliber in NYC or Chicago...it ain't gonna happen! Keep in mind the pricing and that it's a small restaurant...don't expect to get the same sort of service you would at the Palm or Antonio's which are greatly higher in price for food that's not as impressive.

I used to go to Mama Mia's a lot about a year ago and recently went back a few days ago with my boyfriend. They do not have a hostess, so if you need to be seated and they're busy, you might be waiting for awhile. When we finally got seated & got drinks, our waiter brought out a crusty old piece of bread (just one--usually they give you at least 3) we ordered and everything seemed to be okay, except that they were out of Veal parmesan (my favorite). We noticed that we were seated behind an extremely loud group of women, i mean we could hear every word they were saying & so could everyone else in the restaurant (i know this is not the restaurant's fault, but they could have asked them to be a little quieter). When i was served my salad the guy set it down and walked off--and we had no utensils. My boyfriend had to steal them off of the table next to us. The salad was not very good and it took a long time to be served. Due to the loud and unpleasant environment, i asked for our entrees to go. When we finally got our to go bag we were more than ready to leave. Unorganized and unprofessional.

I was'nt sure where to write this in hope that it saves a few couples from going through what we did lastnight. Next, I will be calling the health dept. We used to be somewhat regulars at Mama Mia's a couple years back and would suggest it to all our friends as a romantic little place to dine. The last trip prior to lastnight we found that the prices had gone up substantually all of a sudden and that curtailed our patronage for some time. Lastnight I was craving Eggplant Parm because i read somewhere it could help induce labor (I am 9mos pregnant) so we thought we'd give Ole Mama another try. We arrived early so we did'nt have to wait to be seated, we were greated by our server, he was pleasent but distracted somehow. Typical service issues like bread plates and finished salad bowls and unrefilled beverages ensued but we are really pretty lax about things when we ae just trying to have a good night out. Our entree's arrived looking pretty good, the eggplant was alright. We went along eating taking a bite from eachothers plates and such. My husband, the champ that he is, had found a hair in his as it made it's way into his mouth. He did'nt say anything , not wanting to make an issue, and possibly upset me. On the second occurance of another hair drew his attention to his dish where the consistancy of more hair appeard to be and right there next to it was a nice almond size critter! I too at this time was zero'ed in on the nasty critter and felt instantly ill....my poor husband spitting into his napkin was able to carry the dish to the manager and hand it over, we left straight away not wanting any return visits comped or anything, Oh God, I would never go back there and nor should you. Go to Caraba's or something or better yet pasta is cheap, cook it at home. Good luck and God bless

I visit every other year or so and made a visit tonight for the first time in a while. Got there about 5:30 to find only two tables occupied - so fast seating available... and the waiter was EXTREMELY pleasant and entertaining, all thru the dinner.

But what I want to focus on are the prices. It seems that most casual dining places such as Applebees, TGIF, etc. are the same price now as the much more exquisite fare served at MamaMia's.

Excellent, authentic Italian dishes for $13-$16 dollars. Perhaps a dollar or two more, but that price included a crunchy-fresh salad and breadsticks. To maybe pay $2 more the ambience and uncommonly good food, and on this occasion excellent service is more than worth it!

They have a disclaimer on the menu asking to give them time for personal attention to your order. It's not just words, they do just that. Food is absolutely amazing. However, be ready for some wait time. I suggest arriving early, especially on busy nights like Fridays and Saturdays. By 7:30 it's packed. The bread there is freshly cooked and really does taste like true Italian bread (WARNING: you'll find it impossible to eat Olive Garden bread after trying this...). You can bring your own wine and liquor store is 50 feet away. Great date spot due to intimate seating for couples. Do not miss out! If wait is long, there's a little Cuban place 25 feet away where you can order a desert or something to hold you over.

My husband and I go out to eat a lot and I am also a server. So when I say the service is bad, I mean it is really BAD! I always give the server the benefit of the doubt, saying they must just be having a bad night. But this was a whole new kind of bad service. First of all we arrived at 7:40, there was four of us. It took 20 minutes for the hostess to even come up and take our name! The only reason we stayed that long was because there were five open tables and not that many people waiting. We thought it can't be that long of a wait, plus everyone waiting told us it was their favorite restaurant and that it was worth the wait. Finally, once they took our name they said 10-15 min. Another 30 minutes goes by (still with open tables everywhere) and they finally took us to a table. That's fine, I don't mind waiting. They seemed short staffed, in the entire place we only noticed three servers and one hostess/busser. We saw one lady that maybe could have been a manager, but later after waiting 40 minutes for our salads the same lady just said well what kind of dressings do you want (even though our server had that info), no apology or anything. The server came by a few times, we had to ask to borrow his wine key to open our wine after waiting for him not to do it. (It's BYOB) He finally did, but never refilled waters, removed old salad plates (which food came 5 minutes after receiving our salads).
The reason I still gave Mama Mia's a three star was because the food was amazing! I would just go back during lunch or right when they open. Hopefully there was just a miscommunication with a server or two and they were understaffed. I would hate to think that is how they always staff the restaurant, with the servers running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
The lobster ravioli is wonderful!!

This is one of the most fantastic spots in Nashville. It is such a unique place. Very cozy. The italian food is excellent and the staff is friendly. Love that it's BYOB too. Located right next to a liquor and wine store! This is a spot that I take out of town guests to. Great date spot as well!

I'm originally from New York City and the 1.5yrs I've lived in Nashville, my biggest qualm was not being able to find really great Italian food. Being Italian, one of my favorite dishes to eat and cook is chicken fettucine alfredo. I was disappointed when I saw on the menu at Mama Mia's that chicken alfredo was not an offered dish. I asked our waitress if it was possible to prepare the dish and she happily obliged. My friend had the lasagna which she also raved about. The chicken alfredo was phenomenal. I can't wait to go back and order this dish again. The only problem I had with the restaurant was the location. I drove right by it at first because I didn't see it and it looks a little sketchy from the outside, but alas it was deceiving. Go!

I am a regular at Mama Mias and I have never been disappointed. The fod, service, and atmosphere are always outstanding. The garlic bread melts in your mouth and their menu is second to none. Definitely the best kept secret in Nashville.

This place is phenominal. It is the best Italian restaurant in Nashville due to its expansive menu, BYOB policy, cozy atmosphere, and delicious food. Parking and seating are at a premium, and the place looks like a dive from the outside, but the food more than makes up for it!

The food here is fabulous! My husband is Italian and grew up in New York and he thinks the food is wonderful , too. It isn't the fanciest restaurant in Nashville but it is by far the BEST Italian food I have ever had. It is very small and there isn't a great deal of parking but the food and service makes up for it. I love the BYOB part about it, too.

Wow, I love this place. I took 4 girlfriends from out of town and we had the best time. We purchased a nice bottle of wine from the store a few doors over which was wonderful. The service was excellent and our waiter was very informative and as cute as he could be. We all loved our entrees and made room for dessert which was very tasty as well. I loved Mama Mia's so much, I'm going back thisFriday night with my boyfriend. Mama Mia's is the perfect atmoshphere for a romantic evening with your man or a fun night out with the girls!

My husband and I decided to go to Momma Mia's today for lunch expecting a wonderful Italian eating experience after reading the reviews here. We were disappointed. First thing we noticed when we walked in the door was the music. It was Latin American, not Italian. The hostess/server was not very warm or welcoming - also not an Italian trait. Bread sticks were brought to the table in red plastic baskets that would be found in a hamburger joint and they were nothing exceptional. In fact, they were dry tasting. My husband ordered manacotti and I ordered linguine with caramelized onions and pancetta. We both searched the table for salt to add to the under seasoned entrees. No salt available. Both entrees were disappointments. Mine was greasy, oily - perhaps with too much butter. Flavor just wasn't happening. There was no attempt at presentation other than some roughly chopped Italian parsley thrown on top. We shared an order of Tiramisu. It was good but not exceptional. Our check was $30.49 which was way too much for the quality we received. It was definitely not the Italian experience we were expecting.

I went on a weeknight and parked at the front door, was seated quickly and food didn't take long at all. I love the atmosphere and the food was perfect. We had great service and the prices were very reasonable. This would make a great date spot or to celebrate a special day. There is a package store within 20 car lengths which makes picking out your own beverage very convenient and much less expensive than buying by the glass at other restaurants. I loved it.

Pros: real Italian dishes, ambience

Cons: I can see how it could easily get crowded on a weekend night....it's very small. Reservations only for parties of 8+

The food was outstanding, very fresh and hot. Was not served right away, so they kept the bread and refills coming. Some of the best Italian I have ever eaten.

My boyfriend and I arrived at around 7:00 on a Friday night and we got a table right away. The service was very good - the drinks, food, etc didn't come out quickly but we were glad because that made it a more relaxed experience. I got the Linguine alla Carbonara which had the most delicious cream sauce I've ever tasted and my boyfriend said his Chicken Marsala was better than any he'd had in Italy. Also, amazing bread before the meal! Very reasonably priced and the restaurant itself is cozy and charming. Definitely deserves a visit!

My wife and I always saw it on the way home from work. Once a friend told us to try it out we went and WHOA! the food is AMAZING and the service, while a crapshoot, when they arent busy, its fantastic. My wife who was a server in a busy west end restaurant for 4 years stated it was the best service she had ever seen. the atmosphere is cheesy and a little tacky, but who cares when your eating great food. the lazagna is my favorite and the vodka penne is my wife's. we have been when its busy and its no fun, best time to go is early, like meeting right after work or early in the evening and you wont be dissapointed.

Yes, service can be spotty. Yes, the decor is one step above "college dorm." Yes, you have to bring your own wine (Wa,wa,wa ... the liquor store is in the same shopping center cry babies!)

What matters is the food is great. We especially love the pastas in white sauces ... Ravioli MamaMia and Penne in Vodka Sauce are both to die for.

If you want to pay for sconces and white uniforms go elsewhere ... if you want great, unpretentious Italian go to Mama Mia's.

Stood in the doorway for 15 min. without acknowledgment from the hostess. No name taken, no estimate of time to wait, no greeting.

Finally were told we'd have a 25-min wait; waited 50 minutes instead! Arrived at 8:15pm; didn't get food til 9:45pm despite a thinned-out crowd. How is this possible?

Sat at a table with an alarm device inches from us on the wall; it made a loud beep every time the front door opened or closed. At those prices, would've appreciated some semblance of romance or even relaxation; neither was found here.

Spend your $ elsewhere - we learned the hard way.

I was very excited to find a BYO restaurant in Nashville and had high expectations after reading the positive reviews on citysearch. After waiting 45 minutes hovering over someone elses table because there isnt a designated waiting area, we finally sat down and ordered an appetizer and entrees. Our crab stuffed portabella mushroom appetizer was cold. My chicken marsala was comparable to one at a school cafeteria. It was extremely sweet and the chicken was just blah. My date ordered veal rollatini. It was bland and the veal was tough. The ingredients seemed fresh---they just couldnt get the spices or cooking methods/times correct. The best part of the meal was the Chianti I brought from home. I might have had a better meal at Macaroni Grill (sic).

After spending a week in Italy this summer, we've been wishing for those great dining experiences again. Who thought we would find exactly what we needed in Nashville!?! We stumbled onto this place out of luck and had eaten at an expensive chain the night before and were satisfied until we came here. The food-fantastic!, the atmosphere-perfect! Our only mistake was not knowing about bringing your own wine. Ignore the other reviews if your priority is GREAT Italian food. You won't be dissapointed here. (Don't tell everyone!)

Real Italian food at a great price. Salads and bread alone are worth the trip out to Harding Place. Pasta is amazing! Great for a date... dark cozy and quiet.

This is a romantic, fairly priced restaurant. The service was friendly, but the food took way too long to arrive. This can only be seen as the fault of the kitchen and not the servers. Our drinks, salads, and appetizer came out in a timely fashion. The entree took forever. I recommend this restaurant only if you have plenty of time.

I am a tough critic of Italian food since thats what I was raised on. I have to say though that the food here was EXCELLENT (I ordered the four cheese ravioli). My boyfriend and I loved the idea of bringing our own bottle of wine too. The only complaint we had was the lack of service. We didn't mind waiting for our food (once we actually got a seat), but the wait staff had over 5 couples standing in the crowded entrance while several tables were open. We didn't get a seat for over 40 minutes despite the available seating in the restaurant. We also couldn't get the waiter to come and take our order for over 30 minutes. It didn't make any sense. I recommend you go to this restaurant some time during the week to avoid such a wait. The food is well worth it!

The fact that this restaurant has never bothered to get a license to sell alcohol is a major detraction. Having to remember to go to a package store before you go to the restaurant is a big inconvenience. The food is terrific but the service, due to a lack of sufficient personnel, is very slow.

I am a long time customer of Mama Mia's and they have recently expanded their menu to include more appetizers, desserts, and many of their specials to the regular menu. This makes going there even better! Some of my favorites are the Lobster Ravioli, the crab-stuffed Portobello mushroom appetizer, Veal Marsala and their fabulous Caramel Flan for dessert! I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone and keep in mind that for this quality of food, all made from scratch, it is worth the wait.

I love mama mias! there food is simply divine! people have complained about the food taking a long time, but what they don't realize is that small resturaunt equals small staff. they are working not on just your meals but everyone elses too. and it is well worth the wait! these are five star meals! so just remember that if it is not as quick as you want it to be then go to some other chain resturaunt where the price is the same. but your not paying for quality of the food, your paying someone's salary.
