Went without hearing a word about the place and we are so glad! Everything was absolutely fresh and beautiful, the tempura was so light and crisp, the chicken was like butter, the gyoza to die for. Fast, friendly service, good prices. We'll be back again and again!

Absolutely wonderful. My sister and I went tonight and had a ton of sushi, Yellowtail sashimi, No name special roll, Caterpillar roll, Crunch Munch, Fashion roll, Austin roll, and the squid salad, and i can't say enough about this place. The atmophere was quiet and but inviting. We sat at the bar and both the chefs were very polite and responsive, with a smile. Everything was spectacular, very fresh and made to perfection. We also did a sake bomber which the waitress helped us with, also the chefs were very helpful with suggestions when we were not sure what to get next. I will say no matter where you live it's worth the drive to bellevue

Tokyo Japanese Cuisine is our favorite place to eat. The service is always top of the line and everyone greets you and is happy to see you. Customer service is a lost art these days. Everyone here is so friendly and nice- it makes you want to keep going back. And the food is excellent. Coming from California where sushi and Japanese restaurants abound, this is a trained pallet's compliment. The selection is also impressive. The sushi is always freshly and beautifully prepared. The bento boxes are delicious and the tempura is perfect. You won't be disappointed here. Also, this place can seat two to 20 or more! Its great for a quiet night out with your husband or wife, date, whatever- or its perfect for larger parties and children. Five Stars for sure. Thanks, Tokyo!

Trust me. It is the best sushi in Nashville! I went a lot of sushi places around my town and now I know where to go without hesitating which restaurant I should go for dinner. TOKYO!! During the Christmas season I had special rolls, which were Christmas roll and Santa roll. It was AMAZING!! I really loved it. I bet their fish is very fresh since it melted in my mouth when I had a bite. Hmm~ oh and now one of my favorites is crunch munch roll. You should definitely try one if you get a chance. I heard they are making more special rolls since everyone liked it. I'm so excited. Everything that I experienced there was really good like their food, services, atmosphere, and even music. The restaurant is very clean and nice. It looks like little bit of antic style but it was good enough to enjoy my food and be relax at the same time . I strongly recommend this restaurant to people who want to taste fresh sushi, awesome rolls, and want to enjoy their food in a good condition~

I've eaten at Tokyo several times but unfortunately my most recent visit will be my last. When my wife, daughter, and friend visited for lunch we ended up getting charged double because our waitress made a mistake. I ordered the 5-sushi lunch special (five pieces of sushi and two rolls for $12.99) and our waitress said "Ok, just write down what you want on the ticket and I'll give it to the chef." I did, and out came my sushi along with my wife and friend's orders. I noticed that there were more than five pieces -- including two which none of us ordered -- but when I mentioned that to the waitress she said, "yes, this is what you ordered."

After receiving a bill for $54.00 when the correct amount should have been about $25.00, I went to the counter to see if they could explain what happened. The owner (presumably) said "Oh, you marked the sheet -- that's two pieces each." When I mentioned that the waitress told me to do so after I told her that I wanted the lunch special he said, "Oh you should have told her that you wanted the special."

If you go to this restaurant, I'd recommend the bento boxes or anything that's on the menu as-is. Steer clear of any "specials" because evidently those are just for show -- they don't really offer them. And make sure you bring plenty of cash in case you make the mistake of ordering something that's on the menu.

The sushi at Tokyo Japanese Cuisine steals the show. The chefs are fun and informative and prepare some of the most unique and decadent dishes I have ever had. I recommend the super crunch roll but everything I have tried is great. The regular Japanese and Korean dishes, however, are sub-par. They're served in trendy dishes and prepared very neatly, but the taste has something left to be desired. The service is great and I wish they had better entrees because it would add to the overall quality of the restaurant. The inside is clean but not very fancy. I wouldn't recommend going to Tokyo Japanese Cuisine for a date night or if your looking to go somewhere for a nice dinner, but if you are craving just sushi, you cannot beat it.

I've been to every sushi place in Nashville, Brentwood, Cool Springs, etc. No other place has this wide of a variety of sushi as Tokyo in Bellevue. I go to this place as often as I can. Residents of Bellevue are too lucky to have this place close by!

I've read the other reviews on here, and with the possible exception of a few of the service comments - I do know that one young waitress in particular isn't entirely 'with it', but that's just one server - some of the other reviewers are just nuts! The water tastes fine, the place is always clean, and the place does NOT leave a smell on your clothes when you leave. This is a place I wouldn't hesitate to bring an important business date to.

Long story short, I've enjoyed everything I've tried from the menu, and I've tried most of it. My favorite is the sashimi, but the sushi rolls and Korean cuisine are not to be missed either! This place feels like home to me, and I always leave with a smile on my face. I can't recommend it enough!

After reading the reviews, we decided to visit this restaurant for my birthday at lunchtime. We were promptly seated at a dirty table and each ordered the lunch special. The miso soup was delicious, but we did not receive chopsticks or silverware for our salad and sat there for 5 minutes before we decided to grab them off of the nearest table. Our tea glasses were never refilled, even though the restaurant was empty and we had nearly finished our drinks before our sushi arrived. The spicy tuna and california rolls were good, but the crunchy shrimp roll had very little shrimp or flavor. My friend asked the server if there was something special they could do for my birthday and she replied "we don't do that." When we received our check, the server said "come back at dinner, it's better." Hopefully better than lunch! I certainly did not end up feeling special on my birthday at this restaurant.

It is not the best sushi in Nashville - try Fulin's, RuSan's, or Ichiban. Not the best service either, and my friend would have gladly paid for a birthday treat for me if the check hadn't been dropped on the table the second after she had asked.

This place is fantastic. I've eaten at several different sushi restaurants around the Nashville area and Tokyo, by far, is my favorite! I've had at least over half the rolls on their menu and love them all. Anyone who gives this place less than 4 stars apparently has no taste buds!

Has a neighborhood feeling to it, with a local crowd of regulars. The suchi is average tasting, but for people in Bellevue it is convenient. The water there always tastes bad and should be filtered.

The food was definitely above average. It was pretty busy with only a few waitresses, so we didn't get as much attention, but all the servers were nice and got the job done. The traditional japanese decor added a nice touch to the atmosphere, and the ice-cream tempura dessert was excellent!

One of the better sushi restaurants in the bellvue area.

To avoid bad experience of its terrible service and washing entire clothes after coming home, I strongly recommend to have your order to go. We tried their Korean spicy noodle dish, and it was quite tasty. Meanwhile the service from their waitress was very unpleasant. We waited quite a while until we order(actually we got up and looked for our waitress). Then one of dishes that we ordered came out after rest of us finished our food. Obviously the waitress made a mistake when she placed our order, she didn't even bother to offer any explanation or an apology.
We stayed in the restaurant about an hour, but it was long enough to make our entire clothes like reused old oil. You might not notice while you're eating, but after coming home, your clothes will remind you of the restaurant.
Tasty food, but I wouldn't dare to dine in again. I might have it to go.

You must try this place. Its right in Bellevue so its easy to get to but its way better than we thought it would be. Its good or a complete miss with most sushi joints and particularly the ones in smaller cities like Bellevue. But this place is really good! We were so impressed. I recommend without a doubt you try the Dragon Roll. Oh my goodness! Its the best! And the shrimp tempura was to die for along with the teriyaki and all the other fixins like Miso soup and salad. Actually this may be the best Ginger dressing I've had in a LONG time! Wash it down with hot green tea and you are set to enjoy a delicious meal!

Though the service is often patchy and my orders are often incomplete or wrong, the sushi is undeniably fresh and exciting. Stick to the sushi list, a few of the noodle dishes are quite tasty, but the sushi is the real appeal to this restaurant. Also don't forget to bring two dollars to feed the tank of pirana (preferably after you've eaten, don't lose that appetite)

I placed a carry-out order over the phone and after not being told how long it would be, went to pick it up after the usual 15-20 minutes. The guy working the register did not even ask my name when we arrived but said it would be a while. A while turned into an addititional 30 minutes, and the place was not even that busy especially for a Saturday night. When we finally got the food and got home with it (beef hibachi and beef teriaki) we were not pleased. The food was extremely bland and there was not near enough of it for the $12 charged for a dinner. It would have been much better to go to one of the Japanese restaurants where they cook in front of you and you leave feeling like you got the quality and amount of food that you paid for. After trying many different Japanese restaurants, this one does not compare and the service was not great as well.

I couldn't believe it when I saw this restuarant rated so high!!
After I walked in the door, I waited for at least five minutes to be seated while employees walked past me to tend to a baby somehwere back in the kitchen.
Finally, an older woman came, mumbled something to me, lead me to a seat and left.
Finally, after ordering ONE order of sushi, I sat waiting for it for over A HALF HOUR.
I was one out of five people in the entire place.
The sushi was okay, but DEFINITELY NOT worth the wait and putting up with the rudeness.
There's no other sushi place in Bellevue, so if I'm in the mood for it and don't feel like driving across town, I call in an order of california rolls because it's hard to mess that one up (which, by the way, calling in an order is as pleasant as the dining experience-that same older woman answers the phone after about 10 rings and is SO rude) then I'll wait AT LEAST 45 minutes to pick it up because it takes them that long every time.

I don't know what other people a raving about. Even if I was seated promptly, anyone who's ever had really great sushi would know that their overpriced food is only mediocre.

This is a fantastic restaurant with the best sushi, they always come up with new idea about sushi, for example "HOT BABY" is the most popuplar appetizer sushi.I always come here every weekend, even there are many sushi restaurant close to my house, sometime I even wait for long time, but none of these can compare to restaurant's food. The service is also the BEST. I spent too much money here , even I got broke, but it worth every penny.

Pros: BEST SUSHI in the world, Best service, geat food, romantic place for couple, good location

If you know anything about sushi, dont eat here. The sushi is plain and flavorless. The rolls are very small and way way overpriced. You can get much better shushi at Kens for half the price. If you want really good sushi, go to Sushi Yobi or Samurai. The service here is horrible, It will take you 2 hrs. if you order very much sushi. Other dishes like the teriyaki and tempura vegetables are flavorless and dry. I went here thinking I would be able to get descent Japapnese in Bellevue...not at all.

After I read the reviews for Tokyo Japanese Cuisine, I decided to try the restaurant since I live in Bellevue. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was promptly seated but was soon forgotten. I had to first ask for a menu, and then twenty minutes later ask for my waiter. The restaurant was not busy at all, however, it seemed to take a long time before I could get any service. When I was finally able to order sushi, I noticed that the prices compared to some of the other places I had been to. When I was brought my sushi, the first thing I thought was "this is it". For the price, the rolls were very small and not as unique as I was expecting. I completely disagree with this place being a great place for sushi. Despite the close proximity to my house, it was not worth coming to this restaurant. For excellent sushi for the same price as Tokyo, I would highly recommend Samurai or Sushiyobi.

I am on my second visit to Nashville, and in search of a good Japanese restaurant. I looked at the reviews on this site, and wanted to give it a try, because people recommended it. Here is my story: Upon arrival, the manager asks how many in my party without a smile and promptly seats me at the sushi bar. The restaurant was about half full around 6 pm on Friday. All patrons were non-Asians. The 2 sushi makers were Japanese, while the manager and cooks in the back were Korean. Waiters passed me by without giving me a menu. I had to ask the rookie sushi maker if I had to fill out a menu to order. The rookie sushi maker didn't even say hello or smile when I sat down. I checked off the menu, and finally a waitress came to me, and I handed over my order, a sashimi combination with seaweed salad. People begin to come in, and you could tell they were regulars, as the sushi makers acknowledged them by name...Anyway, I waited over 45 min before I got my seaweed salad. The seaweed salad was good, but you could tell it was not home-made, and probably purchased from commercial supplier. When my plate arrived, 10 minutes later, it was nicely presented. 3 pieces of each variety: maguro, sake, snapper, fatty tuna, and halibut. The pieces were larger than usual, and was surprisingly served with a Shiso leaf. The sake and fatty tuna were tasty, but the maguro and snapper were tasteless. The worst part of it was the halibut. It was icy cold; I couldn't eat past the first piece. I would not recommend this place at all.

Tokyo Japanes Cuisine was the best Japanese restaurant I have ever been to. The sushi is unique, delicious and truly innovative. The fish is always very fresh, and I also recently went there with my date, and although normally she dislikes sushi, I convinced her to try some and she loved it, but she mainly ate the hibachi grilled chicken which was also tasty. It was a very romantice place to have dinner, which was topped off by some great saki. We plan on going back soon, and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone for any occasion.

Pros: 2 Thumbs up! Parking is easy and great as is the service.

I have visited Tokyo several times now, and have gotten consistently pleasing sushi and service. The prices are fairly competitive and the sushi is always freshly made. It has a pleasing presentation and the wait staff and sushi chefs have always been friendly. (Seems to be a revolving door for the wait staff, though - hard to keep a familiar face around there??) Can be expensive if you go for both dinner and drinks; the tab for our party of three for sushi and three drinks apiece was over $120) but if you want just sushi and maybe some tea or water, it can be pretty reasonable. The atmosphere is nice and I have not had to experience a terribly long wait for food up to this point, though on a busy Friday or Saturday night one can expect a wait while the sushi is freshly prepared by the sushi chefs.

BE AWARE, however, that if you plan on leaving a tip for the waitress or the sushi chefs, it would be best to hand it to them directly, or place in the chef's tip bowl. Not sure what protocal is in Japan or Korea, but tips left on the tables or on credit/debit card slips are turned over to the manager, NOT the waitstaff. Since this is unusual in the US, it seems to be worth noting.

My partner and I recently moved to Nashville from Virginia Beach, VA. We had been looking for sushi and asked different people what they recommended and we finally sat down and looked on here for different places. We choose two palces and this was the second one that we went to. We had a very enjoyable evening that night we ate and had the best service we have had in a long time anywhere. They where friendly and we got service fast. We will defitnally go back again and again. The menu also had a wide selection of sushi not just a few items which made it better to be able to try new things.

Tokyo is by far the best restaurant I have ever been to. Its great sushi combined with its entertaining chefs at the sushi bar make me want to go there every day. The decorations at the restaurant really give the place an authentic Japanese feel. I also love the music they play there. Tokyo offers some of the most innovative and creative sushi I have ever come upon truly setting it apart from any other sushi restaurant. After the managent changed, the restaurant became the cleanest Japanese sushi bar I have ever been to. All of my friends love the place, and we continuously go there. 5 out of 5 stars! 10 out of 10. SPECTACULAR!!!!!!

My wife and I recently ate at Tokyo Japanese Cuisine in Belleview. The food was excellent, the service was great and the atmosphere was fun! I think we've found our new favorite place in Nashville for sushi. My wife loved the place and keeps asking me to take her back. It's my understanding that the restaurant is under new ownership and that some of the older reviews are out of date. Ignore the bad reviews and trust me when I say you won't be disappointed!

I have to agree with the previous reviewer, the manager speaks a lot of nonsense. But the food is reasonably priced and tasty. The sushi orders do take awhile to get out to the table, but it leaves time for visiting with friends. I would recommend this place. If not for the sushi, then go for the beautiful waitress.

This place has changed remarkably over the past 6 months. The restaurant has been painted and spruced up, and a new bar added with several wines, beers, and liquors to choose from. The staff are all extremely friendly and helpful; waitresses are attentive and sushi chefs are very friendly and knowledgable. Despite being very crowded last Friday night, I had only a short wait for my food.

The food is the one thing that will keep you coming back, however. There are a wide range of traditional Japanese and Korean dishes available from the kitchen, but I return for the sushi. Always freshly prepared and beautifully presented, dining here has become a real treat for me. I enjoy sitting at the sushi bar and watching the sushi chefs prepare these delicacies; the service has always been very timely and friendly, with very reasonable prices for the food. The restaurant is also clean and well-kept, which is the #1 deal-breaker for me if this is not the case.

Anytime a restaurant undergoes a change in management I recommend diners give it another try. This is even more important when the service or quality of food has been lacking in the past. Do yourself a favor and dine out at Tokyo - you'll be impressed with the food and the staff. If not, speak with the management and I am sure they will make sure you leave there satisfied.

DON'T listen to the last review, it's hogwash! Last management had SLOW service & extremely high prices, PLUS they treated their customers as if you were not their priority & you should feel lucky to be served by them. They were never in a hurry to serve you. Only the sushi chefs were personable. But NOW, since the management has changed, there is always friendly service, food is delivered fast & fresh. They have very good specials with fair prices! I also like that the new management has cleaned up the place & updated the decor. The new owner told me they are also in the process of making a full bar in back with fun nights of karaoke. That would be great for families. Just try this place again & you'll see how much better it is, you won't be disappointed!
