Worth The Try!
by JD H.
I'm sure everyone has an opinion and food is always a hot topic. Allison's is a small, family ran business that has generations of memories and stories. I enjoyed my first visit and will be going back again. It is different from the franchises and the 10 page menu; that's what I liked. I'm not a fried food person, however, the shrimp and catfish I had were really good. I think its the batter. It was very busy (due to limited hours), but fun. Go early before you are starving, spend time enjoying a stroll over the grounds with a loved one or some friends, take a moment to enjoy the experience, and then sit down for some good food. I'd look into dessert too. It's worth a try!

This place is Overrated !
by Catfish J.
Don't waste your time. They're mostly selling a picturesque place, an idyllic scene. Service stinks. Better catfish restaurants abound in this area. If you must go, make it on a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.

As you might expect, their specialty is catfish. It comes one way (battered and fried) but anytime I have a catfish-loving friend in town, we go there for a treat.
Be advised though that they have three - count 'em three - main course items on their menu. Catfish, chicken strips, shrimp and all of them are prepared with the same batter. This makes for speedy service (and the batter* is out of this world!) but it may disgruntle some folks looking for a wide variety of main courses. They do catfish, and they do it well. Also they have great pies! (The cobblers are okay but the pies are definitely a treat.) Usually a meal there runs us about $12-15 a person, so it can be slightly higher than normal for what you are getting (ie. chicken strips for $8) but considering the food is always good and the hours are limited it is understandable.
Hours are Fridays and Saturdays ONLY, open from 5 PM to 9 PM, and that's seasonal from Spring through Fall. If you love battered and fried catfish, check out Allison's!
*Peanut Allergy Note: All main course items are fried in peanut oil.
PROS: Great catfish, speedy service, usually friendly staff, nice grounds
CONS: Limited menu and hours, slightly higher prices
