This company has gone downhill faster than a greased toboggan on Mt. Everest! Consider: Why is there still not a website after two years of "coming soon". Why are there fewer employees and higher prices? Why won't the owner answer any customers complaints, etc?

This company PLANTS REVIEWS on citysearch!!! I witnessed it although it was supposed to be a "secret at administration" but we heard about it and I witnessed it. Look around November 2006 through early 2007!!!! For ALL locations. Who are the one-time or few-time reviewers with the 5-star ratings in the middle of all the other negative feedback??? INSIDERS. Hiding the fact that the owner is off fishing all over the world with YOUR $$$ rather than caring about your purchases. Or enjoying one of two Belle Meade houses. If you are employee that won't be abused or who has morals - find a job somewhere else!!!! Mommy really screwed up giving sweet sonny this business - it was great before he took it!

Don't support the mentioned and unmentionable "habits" - Jersey Mikes and others will treat you right and have owners who care!!!!

My family has been eating at Bread and Company for years. Yes it is pricey, but the sandwiches are out of this world. Recently learned that our "13th is free" cards were no longer valid as they had transitioned to a swipe card as opposed to a hole-punch card. It was all fine and dandy until they informed us that they would not credit the swipe cards with the current hole punches we had for all of the other dozen sandwiches we had purchases over time. Screw it, I'm done with the overpriced sandwiches and $3 cookies. Jersey Mike's is so much better.

Pros: Food isnt bad

Cons: Pricing, lack of parking in most locations, screwing customers out of the 1 free sandwich a year

My wife & I visited on 9/28 afternoon for salads. We try to eat healthy. One of the salads came with a roll. I ask for a piece wheat bread instead. Employee said no, so I asked manager on duty and he said no!!.' We can not do that because wheat bread costs more than a roll. This was because the owners said so." I said fine. Picked up our food from the window. returned to window w/ menu in hand and pointed out that I was missing my chicken on my salad. The food prep person didn't understand what I was saying. I had to talk to M.O.D. again to get it corrected. Now I've been in the restaurant business for 35 years, so I have the greatest respect for the people in my industry and would never be disrespectful. But a 5 cent piece of bread and they messed up my food to the point that I couldn't eat it at all. $22.50 for two salads & small drinks. We will not be returning again ( We have eaten there weekly for the last 4 - 5 years, Ouch, won't that hurt the pocketbook in these tough economic times?)

I go to this place every morning. The people who work there are always so friendly and eager to please. I absolutely LOVE the omelets they have. It is a fantastic way to start the day. If you have not been to this place I recommend it. A little on the pricey side, but 100% worth it. Fresh, quality food and a real warm atmosphere.

I marvel that Bread and Company is listed with five stars yet all the recent reviews share only one. Perhaps something happened after the beginning of 2007 in terms of management changes. I started going to B&Co after moving here in April 2007 and at first accepted the rude service because the quality of their pastries and sandwiches was quite good. Then things changed: while the environment had always been chaotic, noisy and cold, with abundant flies; it became unbearable to me when the quiet classical music was switched to inane loud oldies. Friends would no longer meet me there for coffee and conversation. i wrote to management (a thoughful respectful letter) and never received a reply. I've quit going despite the fact that I live in the neighborhood and loved being able to walk daily. Now I drive to a place that values my business.

Got a Caesar Salad to take to Mom and Dads. Their real big so perfect for small sides for 3 people.
Mom transfered it to a nice bowl for Sunday Dinner. When she did that one of the pieces of lettuce had a big ole hunk (quarter sized so as not to exagerate too much) piece of mud on it.

When I returned it, the (position withheld to prevent retaliation from owners) that the lettuce was organic.

Now, I may not be the brightest marble in the bunch, but when did organic become synonymous with muddy.

To be fair--I have worked in restaurants in my day when I was in charge of cleaning lettuce and spinach...it's tough work. So a little mud doesn't bother me. Just don't want to be treated like I'm an idiot.
My vote--go to Provence or Marche. Leave the overpriced stuff to Belle Meade where it belongs.

To be honest, I'm fuming that this place raised their already high prices. The salad I enjoyed from there has gone up by 2 dollars. Outrageous!!!! I always put up with the crappy, lazy cashiers cause I liked the salad, but not anymore! I'll be going elsewhere. This company obviously has no idea what good customer service is.

I have eaten at this location for lunch over a year and a half. Over that period of time, I have tried again and again to give this restaurant a "shot" and tried very hard to like it. It's a geat premise, fresh food, bakery, deli - it just fails miserably in value and service. First of all, the location is usually either way too hot or too cold. So while you wait at least 10-20 minutes for your food to be made you shiver or sweat. The last bad experience I had that solidifed the fact I would never go back, was when almost everyone in the restaurant had to wait over 30 minutes for their food. Two of my coworkers actually had their orders forgotten by the cashier. One of my coworkers had not been told at the register that they no longer made what she ordered - she paid for it and waited - only to be told they no longer make it when 30 minutes later she asked about her order. WHAT?! That day many customers were up in arms and rightfully so. I overheard some customers complaining to management. Do you think they were compensated or even given an apology? No. Most of the time, the cashiers are rude and the cooks are rude. Then, they quit carrying the one thing I remotely thought was worth their high prices - their smoked salmon sandwich. I've honestly had better experiences at fast food restaurants in the worst part of town. Good luck staying in business. The people who keep you in business are fed up with your lack of appreciation.

Okay, I know it was foolish to try to go to Bread and Company on Mother's Day, but somehow I expected that if I got there by 10:00 a.m., it wouldn't be so crowded. Like I said, foolish. The wait in line to order was long, and the wait for the food went beyond 30 minutes. With two children in tow, it was a lucky thing that we could wander outside for a while for entertainment and then return to our seats. (Bring your own crayons and paper, though -- they are not so child friendly here, though it is casual.) Mid-way through our wait, they announced that the food wait was now up to 45 minutes. Yes, the food here is terrific. Love the fruit tea. My omelette was excellent. Their prepared sandwiches are terrific. But eating here is a nightmare that wore on my nerves! Once I got my food, I rushed through it because I couldn't wait to leave. One food gripe -- they warn you on the menu, but the kids' pancakes are pre-prepared frozen ones that they just reheat. They were tough to cut and awful quality. Can they not just make their own pancakes?
Overall, mostly good food, but terrible service. They need many more cooks!
Best plan is to whiz through and pick up the prepared sandwiches or salads on a week day. And good luck to you then.

I discovered Bread and Company soon after moving to Nashville. On weekend visits I can never decide between the big, fat flovorful omelets or a a sandwich with pulled turkey (delish!) Whatever I get, I know the bread will be the yummiest I ever had. All of the soups are great! My favorite is the corn chowder, but the tomato basil is not to be missed. Yes, B&C is a little pricier than McDonald's but the food is so great, I don't mind paying the extra. I always bring out-of-town visitors here for lunch, and they love it too. I have always found the service friendly and helpful, and even when the store is packed on Satudays, I don't have to wait too long. The only problem I've had was finding a place to sit when it's busy. And it goes w/o saying that the bakery items are to die for! If you like wonderful, homemade food and lots of healthy options, stop here.

I have gone to this particular location several times and experienced the same behavior. It took almost a half hour to get a sandwich to go on a not so busy day. I also got to stand there the whole time and watch the sandwich makers talk and flirt with each other and move like snails. The whole concept is very inefficient in processes and I would not recommend going here is you are on a time crunch.

My life is such that I, either by choice or force, travel quite a bit. As a culinary gourmand, three highlights of my day are always the anticipation of the next gastronomic delight. I recently traveled to Nashville, and by chance happened upon a cafe I had not previously encountered............and a sandwich that I simply had to experiment. Bread and Company's signatute sandwich, The Ultimate Club, jumped out at me like an unmet challenge! The menu description bragged about the size and taste of this creation. I will profess without reserve - that description was conservative at best. This wonderful delight all but defeated me in its size, but was consumed with abandon for its taste. All the while in the most pleasant of atmospheres. Couples, familes, groups young and old.....all found companionship and respite from hectic lives in this quaint and welcoming venue. And oh how I wish I had saved room for just one bite of those delectable looking desserts. Bread and Company, you have won a rare reward from me. I relish the day I am able to return. Thank you for that simple pleasure.

Christmas can have the opposite effect on some people, especially when trying to find a parking spot at the mall, but even though stores and restaurants are busy it?s nice when you actually come across someone who takes the time to offer great service and does it with a courteous smile. After having lunch at Bread & Company today I wanted to give back the positive feeling that I was given by the staff their who took time while I tried to figure out my order and even offered suggestions and even went as far as to ask if my latte met my expectations. It?s good to know that you still can get good service even during what can be one of the more stressful times of the year. Thank you Bread & Company for keeping the true spirit of the holidays and for that I wanted to give thanks.

Is it me or has Bread & Company added several employees to their store in Belle Meade? As a long time fan, who admittedly has waited in some long lines I was pleasantly surprised and somewhat proud when I took my 85 year-old Grandmother, visiting from Knoxville, to B&C for lunch. It was a Saturday and my husband and I knew it might be packed but I also knew Grandma would fall in love with the great food at B&C, plus I wanted her to try one of the delicious Fruit Tarts that I?m always telling her about. Not to our surprise the store was very busy and we happened to walk in with about ten people at the same time. But once in line both my husband and I looked at each other when we saw an employee on every register and before we knew it we were being waited on. My husband said he?d noticed more employees in the store since the summer and it couldn?t have happened for us at a better time. Keep it up, B&C! And yes, Grandma LOVED the Fruit Tart.

I?ve noticed that on here it says that Bread and Company is not recommended for kids. Having three children, who all scream for joy when I mention the b-word, I thought it important to speak up for them. Sure my two youngest do love McDonalds and no, Bread and Co. does not have an indoor playground, but still some of my kids? favorite food comes from ?the blue store? as my four year old affectionately calls it. Whether it?s chicken tenders, star cookies, the gourmet PB&A, chicken Quesadilla or my daughter?s favorite and a guilty pleasure of mine the Bacon and Bleu Cheese Potato Salad. There is no twisty slide but trust me there?s plenty of food that your kids will love, if mine are any indicator and the star cookies are guaranteed to become an instant favorite.

Forget about being a "customer," the customer is always wrong once you walk into Bread & Company on HWY100 West Meade/Belle Meade area. It's appalling truly. Initially I'd go there w/ my family and it was more of our breakfast stop. The atmosphere was nice and they had a do it yourself cart with syrup, whipped cream, strawberries and other fixins. For some time now they've stopped that probably to cut down on costs, but it doesn't end there. They even did away with the salt & pepper to the point of having the pepper in a mixing bowl as bring your plate up and I guess pinch pepper on your food. (IS that even sanitary?) The manager is terribly rude to his staff in front of customers. The manager seems to nickel & dime every little thing in the store. I ordered a quart of soup to go and the cashier reminded me that it comes with 4 pieces of bread to go to the back and get it, low and behold it's the manager that has to help me and I told him what bread I wanted and when I questioned the quantity he had given me he barked at me and said, "Lady, how much bread do you need?", I replied with whatever I just paid for. This was because I asked for the cran-pecan bread which is the only bread I like there. Talk about rude. They are awfully proud of their products and their portions are less than adequate but I look for quality in my food so I don't mind the prices. I definitely would not return to B&C on HWY 100 unless he's GONE and they have a better manager.
