BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! I would NEVER go to transmission world. They start off very helpful. After arriving at their shop, my front windshield was broken and they refused to pay for it. Then I was still having problems with the transmission

I will always go to Transmission World! Over the past few years I have had them rebuild the transmission on my ford ranger, put brakes and rotors on my wife's audi, do my mom's clutch in her honda, and fix the ABS light problem my neighbor was having with his lexus. Every time I have come to them, I have been treated fairly. Jim always makes sure I know what's going on every step of the way, and I know his mechanics know exactly what they're doing. Even my neighbor recommends them now.

They replaced my manual transmission. Returned because third gear was whining. There ads say you get a free rental with internal work, asked what the chance was of getting one and was told ""slim to none"". Had to pay for rental. Got the truck back and first, third gear now grind when engaging into, third and reverse like to jump out of gear, fourth and fifth make terrible noise when you are running at low RPM's, third and reverse like to jump out of gear and reverse screams when going backwards. Took it back for a third time went for a ride with a tech and they said bring it back on a Saturday and they would replace the fluid with a heavier weight fluid. Also, quoted 800-1100 on the phone, then it went to 1100-1400 when I called and the final price was 2300. Could have bought the same transmission at Advance for 1150. Never went back and I recommend that you don't go either.

I first time I needed the help of Transmission World was when my car reached 175,000 miles .... my Transmission was showing signs it was about to go out, so I stopped at Rice Chrysler on Alcoa highway .... they wanted a large sum money all up front , just to repair it ....\nWell I left there and driving home was when it gave up the ghost .... I walked home , called some friends , they didn't know anyone that fixes transmissions..... I looked in the phone book and called ....Transmission World .... Jim towed the car into shop within an hour ....\nthe next day he gave me an estimate ..... well his estimate was low : (because more damage had been done to the transmission by me driving it home from Rice) ...... So it needed a complete re-build .... now because of my job I needed my car to work in the long haul ... so I said yes, please fix it right and completely ..... I drive 140,000 miles a year .... and it won't last if it is not done completely right ..... Jim assured me it will be done correctly and completely .... well folks.... Jim stood behind his word ..... for today I have 460,000 miles on the car and the transmission is still going strong ..... and Jim also does engine work as well ...for at about 320,000 miles my timing belt broke on the way to Nashville .... and anyone knows your engine will be damaged at highway speeds when your timing belt breaks ....Transmission World and Jim fixed my car again .... it does not smoke .... it runs great .... I would have not made it as far in miles without Jim's help ..... and believe me I will always go there as long as Jim is there .... NO company out there has a 100% satisfaction rating ..... and I would not trust a place that does .... but Jim and Transmission World try to have a high rating in customer satisfaction .... and they strive to do every job right ..... Old manager was good/honest. JIM is a con artist!!!!Took my car there to have transmission done (just starting to need changed). NEVER had a problem with my car until I took it to JIM & the mechanics there! Didn't get my car back when they said. When I finally got it back, it broke down 1 hr later & had to miss work. Had to have it towed back. They found the problem...it was their mistake with a part. They shouldn't have been around water pump but yet, they broke a bolt off in it & a piece of water pump off! Since moving to Knoxville about a year and a half ago I have been consistently disappointed with automotive repair service. This was different. The manager was professional and knowledgeable. They fixed the transmission in my 03 Dodge truck for a fair price and had it done in 2 days. I appreciated the loaner car.

They fixed my car in three days after another shop had it for 2 whole weeks without figuring out the problem. I'm so glad I towed it in to Transmission World. I could tell on the phone that this guy really knew his stuff, so I decided to take try them since the other guys couldn't get their act together. What a difference! These guys were very straight up with me, and let me know what was going on throughout the whole process. Even more important, my car actually works like it's supposed to now. Good job. I will definitely come back here if any other problems pop up.

these guys just finished my dodge neon. it works great, but what i was really impressed with was the service. everyone was really courteous and paid attention to every little detail. this was the first shop i have ever been to where my car was fixed right the first time. i am keeping my neon until it dies completely (which i hope won't be for many more years) and i will definitely be back for any other work i need to have done on it.

My experience with this shop was good. My mother's 1998 Toyota Corolla quit pulling and she called me from the side of the road. I live in Florida, and did not know of any shops in Knoxville. After making several phone calls to other shops I got a hold of the manager of Transmission World at 7:30 pm. He arranged to have my mother's car towed in, got her a ride home, and called me at 10:30 am the next morning with the diagnosis. They were able to rebuild the transmission and have her back on the road in three days. She has had no problems since. I would recommend their services.

My husband's Pontiac was acting up, and I wanted to bring it in to a shop to get it fixed before it got any worse. I called and talked to the manager at Transmission World and he told me that he could have it in and out in two days. I was a little bit skeptical that it would actually be done by then, but he said I could have a rental car while I was getting it fixed, so I decided it would be okay either way. I was so surprised when I got a phone call telling me that it was done on schedule! It's been my experience in the past with other shops that it always takes twice as long as you thought it would. How nice that there's a shop in town that actually does what it says it will! And when I got my car back, it worked right the first time, I didn't have to take it back to get it re-fixed. The mechanics really know what they're doing, and my husband appreciates the good job they did on his car. He hasn't had any problems with it, and I know that the next time we need a service or some maintenance done on either one of our vehicles we will be bringing it to this shop.

Originally, I was going to go to the dealership with it because she's in college and I wanted it done right the first time, but I just about fell over when I heard how much they were going to charge me! When I called Transmission World and talked to Gus I was reassured that it wouldn't really cost that much to fix the transmission problems, and after talking to him about what it had been doing for the last few weeks, he seemed like he knew exactly what the problem was and would be able to fix it no problem. \r\n\r\nHe towed it in from Maryville for me free of charge so I wouldn't risk damaging any more parts and causing an even bigger problem (which I appreciate), and had the rental car reserved for me and ready by the time I got my daughter to his shop. From the time I gave the go ahead to fix the Pilot it only took 2 days to get her car fixed and have her driving it again. PROBLEM FREE. Everything about my dealings with these guys tells me they are very professional and knowledgeable about what they do.

I was taking my daughter on a road trip from new orleans to washington dc for her spring break when our car started acting up. We were going to see the capital and learn about the founders of our great nation. We get to chattanooga, and the car won't go into reverse. I'm in the middle of the parking lot for the gas station and my car will only go forward. This is a problem, but I'm thinking that I don't want to ruin my daughter's week, so maybe I'll just watch it and have it fixed when we get back home. unfortunately, we get back on the road and the car is jerky when it changes gears on some of the hills. I can handle being careful where I park and making sure I don't have to back up for a week or so, but I can't do the whole breaking down on the expressway thing. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMy husband used to be a manager at a Lowe's, so when I saw their sign I stopped and asked who they recommended. They told me Transmission World was just off the next exit, and that they worked on all kinds of cars so they could be able to fix whatever was wrong with mine. I really appreciate that, they were really helpful to me. All I had to do was go another mile or so and I was there. They offered me coffee and one of the mechanic guys came out and checked my car while I waited. It was the transmission, but I told the owner about where we were headed for my daughter's U.S. History trip and he got me into a rental car so we wouldn't have to wait for it to be fixed and ruin her trip. One of the guys even put our suitcases into the rental car for us. Micaela and I were back on the road within a few hours and we got to go to Washington DC like we planned. The car was fixed within a few days, so by the time we got back all we had to do was put the suitcases back into my car and drive the rest of the way back to Louisiana. I am happy to report that we made it home without any more jerks when it shifts, and I didn't have one more problem putting it in reverse. I shouldn't have problems with this transmission ever again. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nI was really impressed with the service. Everyone was very polite, and Ron called and let me know exactly what was going on every step of the way. I could tell that all the mechanics had a lot of experience, and it was nice of them to help me understand exactly what had happened to cause the problems. It feels like a completely new car now, and I have a warranty that's good even though I live in a different state. I'm glad, because the car is going to my daughter Micaela when she turns 16 next year, and I know she'll be covered. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThank you, guys!\r\n

I was taking my daughter on a road trip from new orleans to washington dc for her spring break when our car started acting up. We were going to see the capital and learn about the founders of our great nation. We get to chattanooga, and the car won't go into reverse. I'm in the middle of the parking lot for the gas station and my car will only go forward. This is a problem, but I'm thinking that I don't want to ruin my daughter's week, so maybe I'll just watch it and have it fixed when we get back home. unfortunately, we get back on the road and the car is jerky when it changes gears on some of the hills. I can handle being careful where I park and making sure I don't have to back up for a week or so, but I can't do the whole breaking down on the expressway thing. \r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nMy husband used to be a manager at a Lowe's, so when I saw their sign I stopped and asked who they recommended. They told me Transmission World was just off the next exit, and that they worked on all kinds of cars so they could be able to fix whatever was wrong with mine. Where to even start? This is a complete SCAM shop. So people who don't know very much about cars (like myself) please beware, or just the public in general. They will take you for every cent. My boyfriend brought his car here because at the time he didn't have the money to pay for it, and his mom was helping him out. His mom thought this would be an ok place to take the vehicle because GUS the owner was a friend of her husbands. Originally the mechanic assigned to the vehicle was Jim, after Jim had worked and worked on it (so he said) he got frusturated and ended up taking the vehicle home over the weekend. When we went to see about the car the following Monday, it wasn't at the shop, it was still in Jim's possession. We were a bit worried when we were told that Jim had gone on "vacation" and the car was no where to be found. We were then promised the car would be back at the shop by Tuesday. Come Tuesday we find out this so called vacation was really a "crack binge" and Jim had been "terminated from Transmission World". After this fiasco, Gus (the owner, from what I've heard he mainly stays at his other mechanics shop in Florida) said he would be personally working on the vehicle.
* Lets go back and start with the original problem. The car was bogging down pretty badly all the sudden, it was still drivable but wouldn't go above 35 mph.
So apparently they "changed the spark plugs to a non firing spark plug, AND also put a new cadilitic converter into it..which apparently wasn't nescessary at all in the first place according the the dealership we have it at now. Not to mention, that Gus LAUGHED in my boyfriends face he asked about a loaner car and called him a "kid". He's 31 y/o.
Really I sort of blame my boyfriends mother for paying for the work when it wasn't completed and no one had given it a test drive. The total amount was 1,000, they said they wouldn't be charging anymore but would still be doing the work. BUT, it still was not fixed. At that point, we went to get it *thinking it had been fixed* and drove maybe 2 miles before it just completely quit. Of course, by this time it had been almost a month with no vehicle..hoping and counting these people would eventually fix it. Being the nieve consumers most Americans are. So, we put our foot down and said "No more, we want the car back we will be taking it to a dealer" We show up at the shop, and Gus had already gone to Florida *mind you this is also the day he said he had made an appt to take it to be diagnosed by the Subaru dealer..which was a complete LIE* and the man running the shop REFUSED to let us have the car. We had to call the police, before he actually moved the vehicle that was blocking ours.
Turns out, whatever they did, actually made it 50% worse than what was originally wrong. So not only are we out 1,000, we are shelling more money out so a respectable mechanic shop can fix it.
THESE PEOPLE ARE COMPLETE CON ARTISTS. NEVER BRING YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE OR YOU MAY NEVER DRIVE OR EVEN SEE IT AGAIN.
Looking up further information about other people's nightmares and terrible situations just makes me sick that a place like this could possibly stay open. I've seen all kinds of people talking lawsuits and theyve also been on our news channel on a scam alert segment. The better business buearu apparently does nothing about these situations, and there's not much short of filing yet another lawsuit against them. Which they already have plenty of. So I will be posting this review as well as plenty other's warning people of this horror story in hopes that they get as little business as possible. Remember Transmission world, people barely take the time to write good reviews about anything..it's always the bad ones that seem to speak the loudest.

Transmission World just finished up on the third car I've brought in to their shop over the years. After the amazing job they did fixing a noise in my wife's Camry that 2 other shops couldn't seem to find the cause for, and then rebuilding the transmission in my work truck for a lot less than what the dealer quoted me, I felt pretty confident bringing in my classic Fairlane to have some minor work done. They did such a thorough job, and really made me feel like my pride and joy was in the right hands. I really appreciate all the care that was taken to ensure that it was done right. These guys really went out of their way to make sure I was happy with all of my vehicles, and I recommend them to anyone needing a noise or leak looked at.

This guys were great! Honest and right to the people. Explained everything and completed the job right when the said it would be finished. I got them for speciallized work on a differential gear, three times called I told them I wanted no further work checked, just the item I agreed to hire them to replace. The differential gear is no where inside the main transaxle, but jim said oh and your pump is scored too. My recordings show jim was told to not open the main transaxle up, but he did anyway. when i authorized the differential parts to be insatalled he also installed a pump and bands. Facts are facts, the behicle worth was 600 and I requested just the gear in the differential replaced and we had agreed to that, but he slid in a pump and bands after making several attemts to get me to agree to it and me saying no, if I told him not to do any further work than the gear how did he know the pump was scored, since that requires opening up areas of the transmission totally away from the differential. I wasnt looking to get over 10,000 more miles just a few thousand, its a 20 year old vehicle, he basically raised the agreed price by 600 more dollars, despite me telling him he cant. His reasoning when I authorized the gear parts to be installed I didnt say do not install the pump and bands, even though I had said that in the previous 3 conversations. scam artist, he said he would uninstall all parts no charge, thats after they already had the vehicle 14 days. I went ahead and paid, to get the vehicle and personal items out of there and I am contemplating a suit based on worlk specifically told to not be done, that was done anyway, based on a last conversation of go ahead and start the work, he seems to think my 3 recordings telling him no will not outweigh the one where he assumed yes.

A repair shop told me I needed to put a new transmission in my 2000 Caravan, but when I brought it in to Transmission World they fixed it by just putting in a ""solenoid block"". I'm not sure exactly what that means, but it worked, and it only turned out to be $400. I appreciate them fixing what was actually wrong instead of just charging me for a whole new transmission.

The tow truck driver that I called recommended this shop, said it was better than the one that was closer to where I broke down. No complaints, my car seems to be problem free since I picked it up, but it did take a day longer than I was told in the beginning. They did let me pick it up on a saturday instead of waiting until monday, so that made it better, and I feel good about having a 12 month warranty.

I got stuck on the way back from visiting family in Strawberry Plains. There was no way my car was going to make it all the way home, so I pulled into a gas station and looked through the phone book for someone to call. I called a few places but wasn't having any luck because it was sunday... until I called Transmission World. THANK GOD a real person actually answered the phone. The tow truck was there in less than an hour and I even got a ride back home after we got to the shop. I really appreciate them going the extra mile to make sure I was taken care of. The best part of all was that I got my car back two days later and it works great!

Ok---here's the bottom line------50,000 miles later and i still have the ""re-conditioned"" transmission that was installed in my chrysler by this shop. When i sent my car here, i thought that it would be much less expensive than having one of the local chrysler dealers do the work because i had an estimate performed before i decided to send the car here. As it turned out, the work that was done was maybe 10% less than the dealer. Originally i was quoted an ""initial estimate"" which was much less. My advise to anyone using this shop is to be careful-----if you are comparing their prices from someone else, have them give you ""their estimate"" for the exact same work---in writing and before you give them the car! One of the truly good pieces of advise i received from here was to make sure that you have the transmission serviced on a regular interval of about 15000 miles-----it works.
