Thank you for working so hard to get our roof done on Monday and getting us all the required information for our sale of the house. We, Lenders, Agents, Buyer's and Owner's all appreciate it. The crew worked hard and did a great job in the heat of the day. Thank you also for waiving the warranty transfer fee.

Dear Mr. Cox I wanted to take the time to write to you about one of your estimators, Elisha Lane, who went out of her way to help me. I have worked in customer service for forty years and seldom seen such dedication to customer satisfaction. If all of your estimators have the same attitude, I'm surprised that your company doesn't get a contract to install every roof in Texas! While she was inspecting the roof on my rent house (which as it turned out, I didn't need a roof replacement just repairs), I mentioned to her about a problem I have at my home with a roof-top/bird-proof dryer vent, which has collected lint in the vents. She informed me that the only way to clear the lint would be to get on the roof and brush out the lint around the vent and then astonishingly volunteered to come clean the vent for me (I don't climb many ladders anymore and certainly don't walk on roofs anymore). Within a week, she had called me and scheduled some time to clean the vent. When I tried to pay her something for her troubles, she refused. Her taking the time to interrupt her schedule and driving to my house to do that thirty-minute chore for me has made me a Lon Smith customer for life. Thank you for your time and please pass on my sincere gratitude to Ms. Lane.

Lon Smith Roofing, Garland, TX (Headquartered in Ft, Worth TX) is a very smooth operating company at fraudulent sales practices. We claimed our damaged roof with our insurance company in March 2012.
I was asked to get several competitive bids by my insurance adjuster. I did and finally put in a request on Lon Smith Roofing's web page to have an estimate done. I had several other estimates done by this time. What caught my attention about Lon Smith Roofing are their very convincing commercials on the Television and talk radio station.
The salesman was very convincing to me they would go far above and beyond the "average" roofer, making them sound like the best thing since sliced bread. I expected excellence above and beyond; I got "average" service at best. Doing an honest job and fixing things you break, is expected, they treat you as if it is an extra service.
His estimate came right in about where the others had, so I figured we would use them. I signed an agreement, pending our insurance settlement to use Lon Smith Roofing to replace our roof. On the original estimate, which was quite a bit less for our roof than what it was adjusted to after I received a settlement letter from my insurance adjuster several days later. However, the salesman told me we did NOT need metal flashing in the valleys of our roof, that this could be repaired with a "properly cut shingle". After thinking about it, I saw this as them making extra money from us as in the settlement letter from my insurance, they were getting paid to replace the metal flashing in the roof valley's. Also, my roof turbines are 14" turbines, he had written up the estimate for 12" Turbines.
When I told The salesman about these items, he said they would use Ice/Water barrier in the roof valley's and change the work order, also make a change to 14" turbines. Nothing was ever written down on the work order change about a change in the price, nor was it ever told to me or my wife this would be more expensive. Again, they were already getting paid by the Insurance for these items.
We opted to "upgrade" to a better Class IV Impact Resistant type of shingle, it was written up on the work order as an upgrade, amount typed in, then the next line, the amount was removed and noted as a "promotional free upgrade". I still have the work orders showing this.
They came out on April 27-29 2012 to do our roof, about 10 Hispanic men showed up in trucks. They drank beer out in my front yard. Within the first five minutes of work, they had damaged my gutters by throwing the shingles off of the roof edge. This was never repaired. One of their crew damaged a fascia board when tearing off the edging. Weeks later, somebody came over and simply nailed a piece of vinyl siding over the fascia board, I had to pay $45.00 for the paint out of my pocket for something they damaged. He severely damaged a small section of my gutters, left his trash in my yard, nothing has been done.
As per the work order and my insurance claim, they were to replace the chimney flashing, all my furnace exhaust vent pipes and caps, all the drain vent pipes on the roof. The only thing they replaced was the furnace vent caps, not the entire pipes. They replaced NONE of the flashing, and NON of my drain vent pipes, they simply spray painted the old ones. They falsified documents., or they lied, I am not sure how to take that. I stayed at home because of this type of fear I had the work would be shoddy, I was right. They also damaged my outside AC unit (which are only two years old and we are still paying for) by sliding shingles off of the roof side and letting them "slide" across the top of the units, scratching and denting the outer steel cases of the units, nobody has even addressed this.
I made several attempts to contact the corporate office in Ft, Worth to discuss why (after my roof was done) I received an invoice for much more than the original estimate was written up for, and this was not what was agreed upon. In fact, I never got a signed agreement form anybody at Lon Smith Roofing. At no time did anybody ever return any of my phone calls, I called at least six time during a two month time period, nothing from the corporate office.
When I received this final invoice, and I called The salesman and he told me we did agree on this amount and I needed to look at my paperwork. I found the copy, I did sign it, but not knowingly, as stated earlier, nothing was ever annotated on the sales invoice about a price increase, nor ever verbally told to me or my wife about any price(s) increase. The very bottom line (in very small print) is where the total changed.
As a note, they were absolutely useless in helping me during the insurance claim process as well, do not use Lon Smith Roofing.

Chris Cook & Jason Minor did an outstanding job of working with me and coordinating the replacement of our roof. This included working with sub contractors to move the air conditioning units on the roof and replacing the window over the flat roof area. I appreciated Chris, Jason & Office Staff working with the insurance company to maximize the replacement cost.

LON SMITH ROOFING??? LOL!! This guy and his wife started in Ft Worth some 30 yrs ago. Were a decent company. Then they got into all the motivation seminars and Tony Robbins type crap. Got to watching weather and whenever a big hail storm hit they would contact some little roofing company in area and go take over for few months while pickins were good. Hire bunch of nice looking frat boys from closest college. Put them in some hastily gathered little pickups and go sell-Sell-SELL!!! All that matters is the signed contract. The work can be done by what ever wet back or mangy homeless person they could find. Once lo hanging fruit is gone so are they. With some they sell their name. I know. I worked for them for 3 years.

We hired Lon Smit Roofing after considering several vendors to repair our roof (damaged by hail in Roanoke-TX).\n\nThe sales person informed they would take care of all paperwork with our insurance. On the sales person word - you do not have to deal with th insurance company at all.\n\nWe signed up for the service and agreed to pay the first check of the insurance sent + our deductible. \n\nWe payed as agreed on the contract and they they are threatening to send us to a collection agency to receive the depreciation check from the insurance.\n\nThe company calls, send letters and keeps intimidating me and my husband. We haven't yet receive the depreciation payment from the insurance, and no money should come our of our pocket for that (per contract).\n\nFor me, they did not fullfil their part of the deal. I have to be after the insurance every single day plus deal with their stupid letters and customer diservice people.\n\nI would never do any work with them again, and I don't recommend that you do either.\n\nHorrible customer service, do not work as promised and agreed via contract and makes you feel intimidated with their collection threats.

Follow up 10/28/2011: After refusing to fix the mess for months on end, finally someone came out to fix the valleys, repair the flashing, fix the ridgeline, and move the new vent to where it was supposed to go. The man they sent to fix the ceilings in my home made a complete mess of the master bath. Paint splashed everywhere- walls, floors, bath, light fixtures, shower stall, even the undersides of door knobs.

Today they finally came to install the gutters. Suddenly, there's extra charges for this and that- none of which were agreed to when I signed the contract. The employee that was here yelled at me, insisted I pay up today or he wouldn't let the gutters be installed. A total jerk.

Lon Smith Roofing notified my insurance company months ago that the work was done (which it wasn't) and they cut the check. I notified the insurance company that the roofer fraudulently said the work was done- they hadn't fixed the mess they made and $3000 worth of gutters wasn't even installed. The insurance company said the check would be voided and I destroyed the check. The guy from Lon Smith insisted I have the check and basically is calling me a liar.

These people have billed me, sent me dunning notices and tried to play hardball every step of the way. I refused to be intimidated by them and I will not pay them until everything is done properly. Because of this mess, they lost the job for my neighbors next door and all the houses over on the next street. No one wants to deal with these people.

The salesman pressured me to not buy the roof I wanted and pushed Certainteed instead. Foolishly, I agreed. The roof is not installed properly as the mfg states that a steep roof requires 6 nails and not 4. The courses are not laid out properly leaving the tile pattern to look like it was done by a drunken idiot. They put nails in the ridge line at the front of the house causing it to pucker. They used black sealer on the white flashing and when they nailed it, they buckled the flashing. They were supposed to cover all the bushes and clean up the mess. They didn't do either.
The Certainteed rep blew off his appointment with me then he claims he checked the roof on another date. He probably never got out of his car. I'm sure we would have heard him or seen him if he climbed up on the roof. The people at Lon Smith just talk over you, ignore your complaints, and insist everything is just fine. We won't even talk about the damage to the interior ceilings in 4 rooms!

The first guy who checked the roof said they would fix the uneven tiles. This last guy says that there's nothing wrong with them. The installion foreman said that 6 nails were needed. The last guy says only 4 are needed.

I'm calling another roofer to come out and check the work.

I wasted 3 weeks waiting for someone to show up to take a look at my roof. a week & a half on 1 guy. I called & complained, sick of the excuses & no call/ no shows. I got another guy who did the same thing!!\r\n\r\nDont give them the time of day! They are Horrible!! If they treat people this bad, I know they can't possibly fix anything with quality..customer service sucks!!\r\n\r\nStay far far away!!

I have read some of the bad reviews on here and I was just amazed. Lon Smith recently put a new roof on my home in Arlington that had previous hail damage and the entire process was perfect. They helped me with the insurance company and did the work in a fast and efficient manner. I would definitely use Lon Smith again and I would recommend them to all of my friends.

I have used Lon Smith Roofing now 2 times in my life. Both times - due to storm damage over a 7 year period - I have had an excellent experience. They were very friendly and professional, on-time, clean - leaving (no mess behind) and the roof looks beautiful! I don't write many reviews but wanted others who might be looking for a new roof to know about my good experience and that they are a good local roofing company you can trust. Thanks Lon Smith!

They wanted to charge me 8k for a full replacement but i called the roof supply and they referred me to a company called sealatec, they came out and restored my roof to like new with out spending a ton of money, which i couldnt even see any of the damage the roofer or insurance company was pointing out anyway, so for about 2700 bucks it bought me piece of mind that the problem was corrected.. I would definatly call them again www.sealatec.com

Lon Smith Roofing Company re roofed my house. They punctured my A/C line and cost me $458.00. We asked them to please pay our A/C bill and they refused. Later they offered us half of the damages and we declined. They then told us we were in violation of city codes when no such code exists. They were rude and could care less that we had to sleep in 90 degree heat with 2 dogs.

We are going to medication with the Ft Worth BBB and possibly arbitration.
