I was almost fooled by this store's outer shell: very old, you can tell it has lots of history. It has a lot of stock for a small store, it has tofu, ice cream, seasonings, sauces, rice, noodle, candy (yummm!) I would reccomend this store

I liked the place, but after a recent incident where the owner was in a bad mood and was yelling at his employees, he also decided to yell at me too. Wasn't doing anything wrong. Just putting things in my basket. He didn't even apologize and stared at me as I left.

The first Japanese grocery store in San Antonio with other Japanese grocery stores coming into the scene.
It is apparent that the store is getting old due to the old fashioned shelvings and cracked tiles.
This place has a great variety of Japanese souvenirs, products, and ingredient for traditional Japanese meals.
I've been able to get all the ingredients from here to make sushi and other Japanese dishes.
There isn't a great variety on fresh produce and fish, but then again, where can you find fresh fish in San Antonio?
Compared to other stores, the prices are rather cheap for Japanese food.

The workers are kind, and will help you when asked.
Especially the manager, a shy old Japanese native gentleman who will help you as much as he can with his soft spoken broken English. But recently his daughters(so it seems) have been working and managing the customers for him.

The store doesn't give many or hardly any discounts. When buying in bulk, time should be noted.

Best days to shop: Thursday and Friday afternoons (after they get their shipments in).

Cons: Cluttered, small, and hard to find location (look for the restaurant instead).

This tiny little place (also very hidden) is wonderful! Being there is like being in Japan! they have all kinds of food, kitchen stuff, books, movies even Japanese candy. Me and my husband loved it, neither of us is japanese but love the culture. We found everything to make an awesome sushi dinner!
RECOMMENDED!

I have not been to this one but, I go to Minnano Japanese Grocery it is located at 7460 Callaghan Rd. suit 410 phone (210) 340-7900. It is hard to find because you have to go into the shopping center, if you are going down Fredericksburg Rd just turn toward I 10, 1/4 block on your right. I found all I needed from candy to movies on DVD, the real thing (no subtitles). I don't understand the language but kind of figure what is going on. They even have refrigerated food. The people are nice, so far I have seen 3 ladies all very helpful. I really recommend it.

Wow, finally found one! I had looked for a long time for a Japanese oriented market. I had been craving for the miso soup packets and I found plenty of the brand that I love. While this place is pretty tiny, it has most of the dry goods that people look for. I found most everything on my list. The owners are kind and will help you out especially if you don't know the language. Don't expect to find too much fresh produce though. Other than that, they're great.
