I got my ears pierced at La Lobe about 8 months ago. The "freeze spray" quickly and painlessly numbed my earlobe and I didn't even feel the needle. I got a care sheet and some stuff to clean my ears with. They were very professional and sanitary.

About a month after piercing, my left earlobe got infected. I just decided to clean it really well and change the earring. It worked, and the infection cleared up. Recently, though, my ear got so badly infected that I couldn't even put in an earring.

Now, my holes have closed up, but I am getting them reopened. I am going to La Lobe to get them reopened, firstly because they did it originally, and secondly because I think that the second infection was my own fault for leaving the earring in too long without changing and/or cleaning it.

bottom line: if you go here, do not let them use the "freeze spray" - they overuse it to the point of having caused frostbite on the tip of my ear. they also overcharge and the person doing the piercing did not wear gloves.

---

I had such high hopes for La Lobe -- they are located in Preston Center amid a great many tasty restaurants and nice shops, and have relatively normal hours for a piercing place. My girlfriend wanted her helix re-opened, and I wanted mine pierced. They rushed us in because they had a baby to pierce. The two women were nice enough, though the one doing the actual piercing was not overly friendly. Oh well, that was okay - we trusted the women and the shop based on reviews and location.

Wrong move.

What the reviews mention - the "freeze spray" - is what led to this negative review. I knew nothing about the "freeze spray" prior to going. In fact, I was surprised by it when the lady sat me in the chair, pulled my hair back, and said "freezing spray to numb it" before spraying my *entire* ear for a good many seconds.

To be honest, I had never heard of "freeze spray" - I anticipated and welcomed the minor pain associated with piercing, as I have several other piercings (including gauged ones), tattoos, etc.

Immediately upon being sprayed, my ear felt like it had been encompassed in a block of ice -- which I guess is the point. I didn't feel the piercing at all - just the burn of the spray. The burn of the "freeze spray" was MUCH worse than the pain of a non-frozen piercing, even of large gauge.

After the piercing was done, we paid the over $100 bill for piercing my cartilage, re-opening my girlfriend's, buying the studs, and were rushed out.

My ear continued to burn for several hours afterward.

Although the burn has lessened over the last few days, it continues to burn slightly - constantly. Not only does it still burn, the entirety of my upper ear near the piercing has turned a light brownish color & blistered.

Reading up online, I discovered that the "freeze spray" is made of ethyl chloride which has a boiling point of 12.3C -- when sprayed on anything that is warmer than 12.3C, it boils, literally. When overused by incompetent piercers, it can damage the tissue, prolong the healing period, and even - apparently - cause FROSTBITE.

How do I know? My ear is now frostbitten. Although it is only slight frostbite, it is still frostbite and still blistering / brownish / painful. The piercing will probably have to be removed, depending on how it goes in the next few days.

For now - sea salt soaks and some antibacterial ointment to try to prevent infection.

Avoid this place -- if you insist on getting pierced here, DO NOT LET THEM USE THE FREEZE SPRAY / ETHYL CHLORIDE ON YOU. There is a reason most piercing places refuse to use it, and a reason why it is in fact illegal in parts of the UK.

I took my 5 year old in earlier in 2011. The woman who pierced her ears was annoyed that we asked for the numbing spray. She reluctantly used it. I can't quite describe what happened with my daughter's piercing on her left ear except to say that my heart shattered in pieces as my daughter wailed in agony. The woman pierced her ear and then was jabbing and pulling and telling my daughter to just be quiet. Meanwhile, my daughter's ear is bleeding a lot (and the woman wasn't wearing gloves). The right ear went better, but that left ear was so awful that my 3 year old (now 4 year old) has sworn since then that she will never have hear ears pierced. It really traumatized my younger daughter! My older daughter's piercing ended up developing a staph infection a few months later. We have been treating it with bleach and bactroban. Thankfully we are probably not going to lose the piercing because I'm pretty sure my daughter would not agree to have it done again. And I would never take her back to La Lobe, even if we had had to take it out. I would have found a professional piercer at a tattoo and body piercing shop who would do it. I definitely do not recommend La Lobe.

I got my ear pierced at La Lobe and it was awful.

The service was BAD, the price was expensive, and my ear became INFECTED.

The woman that works there does not care about customer service, and took no responsibility for the botched-up job that she did on my ear.

Don't waste your money. After months I still cannot wear earrings because of the infection she gave me. Now I will have to try again somewhere else.

Horrible experience all around....

I got my ear pierced a while ago and went to La Lobe because I thought it would be better than the mall --- it wasn't.

She pierced my ear and I took care of my ear for 5 months, cleaning it with their solution and wearing only the studs that I purchased there.

My ear soon became infected and I wasn't able to wear the studs or any other earrings without puss and blood coming out of my ear.

When I went back to La Lobe, they blamed the infection on me even though I followed their instructions exactly, and even wore the studs 2 months longer than I was told to. The woman would not take responsibility and would not re-pierce my ear without an appointment and without me paying AGAIN for her poor service.

Now my ear is completely closed up and I am out the $120 that I spent at this place.

If you want HORRIBLE service and NO results, you should go to La Lobe. Otherwise, you would be better off going anywhere else. She does not value her customers and she doesn't do a thorough job. She treated me horribly.

If I could give La Lobe NO stars, I would. This is the LAST place you need to go for a good experience.

Pros: Nothing

Cons: Customer Service is awful; They infected my ear!

I recently took my 2 month old baby girl to La Lobe to get her ears pierced. I had been debating doing this since she was born. I was very relieved that La Lobe was very knowledgeable and professional. My baby girl did not cry at all when the needle pierced her ears. It was over before we knew it and I was also able to get some very pretty earrings for her as well. If you are considering doing this for your lil one la lobe is the place to go so much better than going to the mall and getting someone with no experience. To the other lady with the negative comment maybe she should have stayed around to see what was going on instead of making an assumptions, you try and keep a 2 month old still for anything with out them getting upset.

I walked into this place to get my ears pierced and see about some jewelry. I witness the most horrifying scene. A Mother holding her newborn (or 3month old) screaming while this supposedly experienced professional pierced this baby's ears. Well, for adults it may be easy and painless but for this poor baby it certainly wasn't painless. It was horrid to hear the babies cries of pain and what for - a small baby with pierced ears - for the Mother's sake! Gross! I would never do business with this professional!!!!!

I got my nose pierced here. It was my first piercing besides lobes x3. They did a fabulous job. The piercer is very good and didn't make it hurt at all! He was very professional and experienced. Also, I will be going there for my helix piercing soon. It is very sterile and the only place I trust for piercings.

I went in June 2008 and got my nose pierced. My daughter got her ears re-opened (with a needle, no gun) and my eldest daughter had him put new beautiful earring put through existing holes. I cannot explain how easy the process was. My daughter (5) had her ears re-opened with a needle in each ear and didn't even flinch! He is an amazing piercer.

La Lobe Piercing Salon is a small shop which specializes in all types of piercings. In my opinion, it's a much better place to take your little girl to get her ears pierced for the first time. The staff is professional and friendly. They spray the ear with something that deadens the ear lobe and use a needle to do the piercing. No pain and no popping sound. New age music is playing in the background to keep the mood mellow and there are stuffed animals if you need that, too. Excellent instructions are sent home with you on how to care for your new piercing(s) and they are always happy to help you when you get home and have questions. Very friendly and helpful on the phone. A bit more expensive but not by much.

Your piercing at La Lobe is performed by a very qualified professional using a needle, not a hole punch! I expect that it is more expensive than the mall, but you have only one body so you should care for it well. If you follow their instructions, you are very unlikely to have problems or infections. Plus, they have a nice quality selection of first earrings.

PROS: Clean, safe, professional
CONS: More expensive (but worth it!)
