I have encountered so many comic book snobs in San Antonio. Geeks should be able to find...sanctuary, if you will, in a comic book store. Not made to feel like an idiot based on noir or super hero preference or even gender. Yes, I have boobs, yes I read comics. Atomic Comics is the ONLY store in San Antonio that was welcoming and didnt 20 question me like I was some kind of alien. They go out of their way to help you find your books, offer the best sub discount in the city with no restrictions, sorry Alien Worlds and Heros, but you suck. If you are new to this city, this is the place to go. A sanctuary, if you will

This is MY comic shop.
I had been waiting for a shop in my neck of the woods for a very long time and couldn't be happier. The owner and management is great, I never have to deal with a switcheroo on anything advertised or offered...
(sorry Alien World's but if it's not on your "exception list" and I want to buy it for .99 like advertised don't tell me you "missed that one" and then charge me full price...not cool)
...everyone behind the counter, though sometimes quirky, still conducts business in a professional manner and are always helpful...no 'Nerd Zombie's', the kind who know their stuff but have no personality at all...not here!
These people rock!
Again, this is MY comic shop. I can go wherever I want to spend my money but this is the place I always call MINE.

I don't know who the one star whiner was but I'm glad I won't bump into him anytime soon.

I have been collecting figures and the like for a good while now and have had many good and bad experiences. Not the worst of which being one comic book store here in town, which hails itself to the best "Best Comic Shop in San Antonio," forgetting to call us on preorders that we'd made and then selling the figures we'd ordered hours before we come in knowing they should have been out by then.

Anyone who regularly preorders anything from the Previews catalog should do so with Atomic Comics. They are by the far the most reliable I have found. I prepay and I always get a call the day they get the shipment in.

The customer service is amazing. After only 2 visits in the store the owner knew me by name and remembers the types of figures I collect and reminds me of things if I've forgotten that were available in Previews for that month.

My first experience was the best, one I don't think you will find in ANY other store. I had gone in there on a whim not knowing what to expect and asked him about a new set that had come out, but I hadn't been able to find anywhere. He'd said that when he got his shipment in he'd hold a full set aside for me and let me know when they were in so that I could pick up the ones I was still missing if any. That's right, he didn't have me preorder or pay for anything he just decided to hold them in case I needed them. I don't think that a chain like Alien World's or Heroes and Fantasies would do this for anyone that wasn't already a regular.

With that said I hope that the previous reviewer that gave only one star has been back in the year since he wrote that review as it's totally off. Of course it also seems that he thinks a comic store is only for gaming and not for actual purchasing of goods.

PROS: Very good customer service and reliable for preorders.
CONS: Parking is iffy. You want to park behind the building to get out easier.

As soon as you walk in you notice the funk emanating from the regulars that seem to lurk there. They have horrbile skills at games they can't afford to play.

The tables are creaky and dusty, something out of a bad fantasy book, like Hary Potter. Why can't they have nice clean plastic tables? Who wants splinters?

The selection is nill. If you want a decent pick of anything hot you're better off somewhere else. Who drives down here to buy weak ass books like Spiderman? Who needs crappy cards like Beta Mana Vault?

The video games are always busted. Who wants to play a game where you can't go left? Take a chance with my quarters? I don't think so.

The customer service there is horrible. Don't even try to show up at a tournament with a respectable deck of cards. They'll whine and boo you right out of their little underachieving world. I mean who plays to win anyway?

All in all, I wouldn't go back there, ever again. I don't think you should go at all.

PROS: Business is slow and they'll soon go out of business.
CONS: The vermin that infest this place on weekends. Bad Magic players!

Stepping into Atomic Comics & Gaming, one is immediately aware of it's open design, the ample walking space, and the uncluttered arrangement of shelves and racks. Unlike most comic book stores, Atomic is easy to get around, well-lit, and best of all, staffed by friendly and enthusiastic fellow comic readers who bend over backwards to help nascent readers get into an at times difficult hobby. For the gamer, there are several arcade machines and long gaming-tables set up in the back, so that no one is getting in anyone elses way.

PROS: accesability, selection, friendly
CONS: none
