I love going to steel for happy hour. There is normally a pretty good crowd and you can get some free sushi as well! Cool place to meet up with friends after work.

I met a date at Steel a couple of weeks ago, at her recommendation. It was my first visit and I was impressed. The restaurants decor is upscale and beautiful. I ordered the Shaken Beef, she had the Lemongrass Chicken and we shared an appetizer of the Sea Bass. All three were excellent, however I have to say that my Shaken Beef was the best of the three. The dinner and drink menu is a bit pricey, so factor that into your plans. I understand they have free shushi every Wednesday starting at 5:30. Also, their iced tea was the best I've ever had. There is a definite taste of cinnamon in it. Overall a great venue.

Me and my girlfriends showed up - there were all these seats, and they said they were all reserved, wtf? I've never been treated like this before by a bunch of "greeters" who obviously lack people skills. The bar was open so we tried to order drinks and were wondering when their "buffet" was going to open up - they said it was already being served and we were surprised with how unappetizing it appeared...going back to the drinks, the bartender gave us our drinks but we couldn't order any food because it seemed like nobody wanted to take our orders...what's up with this place? I hated it and do not recommend this type service for anyone - and the decor is so very 90's. YUCK!

If you are ready for an absolutely killer sushi evening, this is your place. The quality and variety of the sushi is top notch, and the presentation superb. They have a decent sake list as well. The wait staff were friendly, and I really didn't mind the extra 15 minute wait for my table on a Saturday night as the bar never seems to lack interesting characters. Probably the best sushi in Dallas, beating out Nobu and Teppo. Can't wait to go back.

I had originally gone here for a friends birthday, and was impressed with how it looked, but over all just sort of another sushi bar.

When it came time for my girlfriends birthday, I was checking out different restaurants to see who could seat our party. I went to Steel since my friend had gone there and said that they had no minimum orders to seat a party that large. What I heard was completely different. They require a $500 drink minimum to reserve the private room that my friend had received for free. $500 just on drinks. Not $500 for drinks and food.

When I pulled up I was coming from spending the day at the Dallas world aquarium, and was appropriately dressed for that. I personally think the only reason I was told $500 minimum in person (which amazingly when I called back, was NOT told that.) was because of what I was wearing.

They need to figure out that rich people in Dallas don't dress like it. Maybe treat everyone with more respect, and you won't get burned.

(Btw, we went to Kenichi instead and it was 10 times better.)

Pros: Nice red light

We were greeted with a messy entrance (i.e. smeared sushi rice on the sidewalk...did someone spill something?). The maitre d (...or in this case, the "maitre dudes" and d's) were like a pack of cats at the entrance - felt like we were being judged by what we were wearing. We were informed we can sit anywhere but there was nowhere to sit - we found our friends at the bar, also standing and looking for a place to sit. We all decided to leave...I absolutely hated this place.

I attempted to bring a first date here for happy hour last Wednesday - there were guests eating along the outside entrance area with piles of california rolls on little plates, covered with a brown colored sauce...this was suppose to be the fabulous complimentary sushi at happy hour.

Inside we were greeted with "just sit whereever...except over here which is reserved". We navigated (on our own) through the area and were just totally turned off by the "trying too hard to be cool in black" atmosphere. And again, just turned off by the messy "sushi buffet".

We left (kinduv grossed out) and had a more pleasant experience at Green Papaya across the street.

Or recent visit to Steel was a great one. Though we didn't venture off the sushi menu and try any of the entrees the meal was fantastic. The fish was super fresh the eel was flavorful and the rolls were perfectly balanced. (not like some places where they seem loaded down with cream cheese or heavy sauces leaving you with a gross overly full or lethargic feeling.) The service was great as well. He was very attentive, personable and had great sense of humor. Without being overbearing and intrusive. I would highly recommend Steel to any adult party wanting to dine at a trendy, upbeat, very nice, but not stuffy, restaurant.

This would have been our third experience at Steel. We made reservations for 8:45 PM and showed up at 8:15 to have drinks at the bar. When we checked in at the hostess stand we were greeted rudely and told to wait in the bar (which we had planned to do). They then pointed us to the sushi bar which was obviously not where we should be. Once we found the bar we ordered a glass of wine and the service there was great. At 9:05 we went back to the hostess stand to ask when we could expect to be seated and were told they couldn't give us an expected time even though they did say there were still two tables ahead of us. They acted as if they could care less if we stayed so we decided to leave. On the way out I asked what the purpose of a reservation was and was told that they basically will take any reservation because they want to always be busy. While I liked the food there previously I'd rather go somewhere else where they value the customer service side of the equation and realize that good food and bad customer service equals a bad experience. I do not plan to dine there again and would strongly reccommend against going there.

I love Steel's atmosphere. I hadn't been to Steel in over three months, and the valet remembered my name. It was like he wasn't even human, but like a robot trapped in a valets body. In my opinion " He broke the chain off, and left it dangling" As far as the service inside, it was Four star. The server was very informative and didn't mind special treatment. They made it happen, and i would recommend Steel for all your sushi needs.

P.S. The valet had the cars waiting for our party as we exited the restaurant

I had heard positive things about Steel and since it is one of the new trendy Dallas hot spots I thought I would give it a try. What a mistake. Dallas has much, much better sushi places. In fact, if you look at their sushi menu you will realize immediately that sushi is not their specialty. They have a very small menu and have very few specialty or adventurous roles. We received mediocre roles and a huge bill at the end of the night. We go out all the time--we spend a lot of money on dinners out. But we walked away disappointed due to the food and very high prices. We ordered some other items off of the regular menu and were underwhelmed. Please go elsewhere if you want good food.

This is the best happy hour for the middle of the week. Wed. nights they serve free sushi and $2 domestics, $3 imports. The sushi is amazing for buffet/free sushi. It is very crowded so come early and save spots for your friends. It can get really loud if you are trying to dine and just enjoy good conversation, but for a meeting place with friends--I would recommend it.

I've been around the world (on my company's expense account) for dining at sushi restaurants. There are few places, if any, that top Steel's sushi. We sat at the bar, and the service was somewhat slow. But the sushi was perfectly wonderful. I'll be going back -- a lot.

It was packed at 8:30 on a Tuesday night. I suggest reservations.

This kicks Nobu's butt on food, service and the price. My first time here was for my own bachelorette party and we all loved it. They seated us promptly with great service throughout our entire meal, and the menu was fantastic. They are much more adventerous when it comes to the sushi rolls, and they have a great variety to choose from. I loved everything that I tried, and I would go back in a heart beat.

I took my fiancee to Steel for his birthday, and he loved it. We only ordered from the sushi menu. Everything was very fresh, but a little pricey. (I've been to sushi restaurants that were just as good, but less expensive.) For dessert we had a molten chocolate cake that was to die for. Very nice decor

Cozy, hot, fun and great food. One of my favorties for sushi and sakes. Just beats the snot outta Blue Fish when it comes to atmosphere and class--and the food is great, even if you don't like sushi. Lots of variety on the menu. They don't mind special requests. Specialty dining areas for groups too. Good location in Centrium building at corner of Oak Lawn and Cedar Springs.

They have a great happy hour here on Wednesdays from 5-7 with FREE SUSHI. If you make a reservation in advance, you can sit down and they bring you the free suchi, but otherwise you have to stand up in the typically overcrowded small space around the bar and tables. I usually have a great experience here, but recently I experienced a very rude cocktail waitress that had issues. But besides that, the place is great. For special occiasions reserve the wine room, it provides an exceptional ambiance for special nights out.

As a resident of Bermuda, where we enjoy sushi fresh off the fishing docks, I was somewhat wary about eating sushi in the South. I have to say, Steel was excellent. We couldn't get in on the Friday night (as we had no reservation) but we went back for Monday lunch. We enjoyed various rolls and well-portioned servings of sashimi. The service was first-rate without being oppressive. And the dessert of sautéed fruits in warm brandy and vanilla over ice cream was superb. I will definitely go again on my return to Dallas.

I have eaten at pretty much every sushi restaurant in town and Steel is my favorite, just be prepared to open your wallet. The rest of the food on the menu is good but the sushi is by far the best way to go. I eat at Steel probably once a month and always have a great time. Steel has a cool atmosphere and a knowledgable staff. I highly recommend Steel for dates, large parties, or business meetings.
