Headline says it all. Take a tums with you...but the food is great, prices are even better. Downside is the seating but hey, it's Austin...Pop the hatch on the back of your SUV, or pull down the tailgate and you are good to go. Mmm, i want a carne guisada right now.

This is what mexican food SHOULD be. Inexpensive, and tasty.

I won't say everythings the best here, but the taco plate (3 tacos, beans, rice and 2 tortillas for $3.00) is a great deal for some tasty food. Toss in their homemade hot sauce and you have a killer deal.

I stay away from the enchiladas and the migas, they're both a bit greasy to me.

Overall, the price is unbeatable. Call-in your order to skip the line and you'll be in and out in 5 min. Not even fast food is that fast.

Plus stop by for a breakfast taco, cheap and filling here too.

They should change the name, because they don't have tamales anymore. They have tacos (breakfast and regular), enchiladas, dinner plates, etc., but no tamales.

I used to love Tamale House; I had no problem waiting in the long line every weekend to get a bag of tacos and take them back home. However, lately I feel the quality has slipped in a substantial way; The eggs seem watery, the bacon seems rubbery, etc. It's still cheap for sure, but now it tastes cheap too. I can't go anymore, and I'm not the only one. My friends and I have sadly moved on.

PROS: cheap
CONS: bad quality

When I saw no rating for the "The Tamale House" I jumped to write a review! Without a doubt this is the best little kept secret ever. The food is made fresh right in front of you and the wait line is extremely fast. You can get three breakfast tacos for $2.85 or a complete Mexican plate for $3.50. The service is fast and friendly to eat there on the porch or to go. One thing for sure, you won't be disappointed. Look for their notice in "Texas Monthly"

PROS: Authentic mexican food, priced to please!
CONS: Closed at 3 p.m. and Sundays

With the prcies at the Tamale House, they're practically giving them away and the best part about it is the food is fantastic. For under 3 dollars, you can get some of the best breakfast tacos in an astounding array of combinations. Plus they have awesome homemade salsa (spicy) to boot. Everytime I've been there's been a line to the door, but the service is fast and I'm usally out with tacos in hand in about 5 minutes. You won't be disapointed, and if your are then it can be assumed that you have no breeding or culture.

Their breakfast tacos are so good, we have made it company procedure to gather in the conference room and eat tacos from the Tamale House every Friday morning. I thought that with such a large order I would need to call it in...but when I told her what I needed, she didn't blink an eye. They are used to placing large orders and work fast to deliver hot food quickly. Yummie and Cheap, you can't ask for anything better.

I used to live around the corner from the Tamale House. You really can't beat the prices here. You can fill up on breakfast tacos for $2-3. Lunch is the same.
