This was our first experience at this La Duni location. We typically frequent the Oak Lawn location, but decided to try the McKinney Avenue location. The first thing we noticed was how small the parking lot was, so we ended up having to valet the car.

The food and service were excellent. Nothing to complain about there.

Once we got our car back from the valet service, we noticed that it had been wrecked. When we confronted La Duni management, they informed us that the valet service was not their responsibility, and that they were not liable for this. We contacted the owner of the valet service, U.S.A. Park and he too informed us that there was nothing he could do about it, because we could not prove "with a video" that it was wrecked in their hands.

We expected that La Duni management would take ownership of this, since they hired this valet service, however they did not. Think twice abefore you valet your car here.

La Duni is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Dallas. The prices are high, but the food is delicious. Everything on their menu is awesome. They start you off with delicious salsa and hot chips. The portions are large - you always have a second meal the next day. MUST SAVE ROOM FOR Trec Leche Cake!!! I'll never be able to find better cake.

My friends and I have wanted to try this place for sometime now because of the great reviews that we?ve read, and we finally got around to it. All I can say is that I was unconvinced. First, we paid $9.75 for an alcoholic beverage that was mostly ice. I can say that our service, once we sat down, was good. The meal was mediocre, but the dessert was awful! I am an avid baker, and I have heard so many great comments about the bakery items at La Duni, especially the Cuatros Leches Cake, which we tried. I was sadly disappointed. They should call it the Cuatros Dias Cake because I think the cake sat out for 4 days and then they decided to pour a bunch of sweet milk on it to make up for the dryness and lack of taste. All in all, drink wine or beer because they rip you off with the drinks, and go somewhere else for dessert.

The main review states that it "ceases to impress". I hope whoever wrote that understands that that is a negative thing to say. Uhh, who writes these reviews anyways?

My wife and I tried this place out 2 months ago and we were fairly happy with the food and atmosphere, but were somewhat irritated by the service. Our ticket was lost, then we were asked by three waiters who our server was! To be fair, it was Sunday (around 1:00 pm), so we expected a slow meal, but in all of the confusion it ended up taking about 2 hours eat a plate of eggs.

I write this review because we went back again and had a similar experience. We sat down next to a couple that ordered exactly the same items we did and at the same time. Fifteen minutes later, they had their meal, finished it, and had their table cleared when our server finally came to our table (she had not been to our part of the restaurant in over 20 minutes. She said she had lost our ticket and couldn?t remember our order. I was visibly angry, but my wife convinced me to stay. The food is fine, but the service makes dining there a miserable experience.

We will not be returning to La Duni Latin Cafe.,

I originally planned a wedding shower at another restaurant in Dallas. However, due to a major issue with the afore mentioned place I decided to move our party to La Duni. Their attentive staff helped us plan everything for our afternoon tea party in 1 day!

The chef called us back the same day, and helped my co-host pick out a menu for the guests. On the day of the shower, the table was gorgeous and set up in advance, all we had to do was show up. The staff took care of everything, and they were attentive without being in the way. The shower was so much fun, and the food was delicious. I hope to plan events there in the future!

Pros: Food, Staff, Atmosphere, drinks, cake

Cons: It's on McKinney so parking can be an issue (there is valet- $4)

Presentation and food are usually exceptional, my girlfriend who is extremely picky is always pleased with her food. Mine however, is a different story the chilaquiles I ordered were served in a giant soup bowl, and soup for brunch fell well short of expectations , the waitress was either extremely hungover or just apathetic, either way unacceptable, this mirrors the service I have received for the past three times, and this time was my LAST!!!!

I cannot believe what people are typing about "La Duni". This restaurant is not only the best in food but also the best in customer service. The environment is great, the restaurant is spotless, entrees are the best in the metroplex, service is fast and all the staff is very friendly. If you want to try real gourmet latino food this is the best place to go, La Duni is 10 times better that gloria's and alll the "mexican" restaurants in the area together.

My family and I have been at both locations for years. Food is excellent without a doubt.
Ambience is wonderful. Service, (at the Oaklawn location), excellent! At the McKinney location it's a whole different story. Our favorite is the Oaklawn location but occasionally we go to McKinney when we are in that area. And I will continue to go, simply because the food is excellent, but the service AND the management at that location is pretty bad. Nine times out of ten, the servers either have an attitude, look upset mad, and are slow. One of the female servers corrected my wife, rudely, for mispronouncing a spanish item on the menu. The last four out of five visits they did not have what we ordered. The last visit which was last evening, what my wife ordered was not available. Did he try to make it up some how, did he even apologize? Did he offer any suggestions? Nope, nothing, just a blank stare even after remembering that we had had the same experience just a month ago. The owners need to pay attention to this problem, we have many friends that are having the same experience.

Brunch - Service was rude and food was mediocre.

The servers acted as if we put them out for asking for service and the quality of food did not out way the rudeness..

I have been to La Duni several times for brunch and dinner, and would definitely say go for the brunch and find another place for dinner. I didn't find their dinner menu especially wonderful, but the brunch is what La Duni excells at. The ambience is always great and the brunch menu is wonderful. Sometimes the waitstaff can put a person off, but I've found the food to overcome that issue.

The food at La Duni is terrific, but their desserts are out of this world. Try the tres leches cake and you will not be disappointed. They have several locations.

I've been happily dining at La Duni since I moved to Dallas in 2002. I l-o-v-e the food, the ambiance, and until recently, the service. In late March, I called the McKinney location to schedule an afternoon tea (thought it might be different to host a friend's baby shower/tea somewhere other than the stuffy (but lovely) Adolphus). I called two moths in advance to reserve a table for 8 and got their voice mail. I left a detailed message with my contact info. I waited two days and still no reply. I called again. Hostess put me in contact with the manager. The manager put me on hold only to come back to tell me the owner was in a staff meeting and would call me right back. He never did. I called back two days later. Told the hostess that this was my third attempt in one week to reserve tea for 8 women. She told me it wasn't her problem, she wasn't in charge of scheduling, and she'd have someone call me back. They never did. I wrote an email through their website to the manager detailing the lack of response/customer service and guess what? No response. I'm still ticked off and this was two months ago. It kills me how much money I've spent there over the years. I was even part of a party of 17 one Thanksgiving - talk about a $$$$ dinner. That probably paid our server's rent that month. And this is what I get. One customer lost may not mean much to the owners. Hopefully they come across this posting one day and think about what they can do differently for other patrons. And, they should change their mission statement on their website: "Experience our Latin Home, savor our authentic foods, drinks and participate in the traditions and customs that have been passed from generation to generation of passionate, devoted and caring Latin Families." Devoted and caring? My foot.

The food is excellent. This is not tex-mex, this is South American food with flair. No reservations are taken so expect a wait on the weekends. It is wortht the wait. Save room for the desserts. Our favorites are the quatro leches and the Nutella Cake. We have ordered whole cakes for special occasions. The drinks are very good but they are extremely over priced, especially considering the food is reasonable priced for the quality.

Nice, trendy spot with multiple locations in the metroplex. We had dinner at 5pm on a Tuesday night and we were the only customers there. Yet with 6 idle servers standing around, our service was indifferent. The Carne Brasilero was tough, dry, and tasteless, but the Carne Asada was a beautiful, juicy , and flavorful skirt steak which was perfectly done. Deserts are an emphasis here, but tend to be a little too sweet for my tastes.

If you're looking for something different and nicer than typical Tex Mex, La Duni is a must visit. Great food, beautiful atmosphere, and friendly, if sometimes varied, service. Traditional items like flautas and enchiladas won't disappoint, but more traditional Latin cuisine like Arepas, plaintains, etc. are worth getting out of your comfort zone and trying. Don't miss the Margharina -- they're excellent version of the typical margarita. And save room for Quatro Leches Cake -- unbelievably yummy. Highly recommended.

I have to say, the service when I recently went to La Duni was TERRIBLE. We were a large party and the poor waitress did not know what she was doing. We waited almost an hour for her to take our order! Then at the end she got things on the bill wrong. Honestly, I would not go back simply because of this lousy, non-apologetic service.

It's authenticity is part of the charm, so refreshing compared to usual "tex-mex". True South/Central American cuisine. Excellent food, great service, great drinks but they are too small. Definitely a good date place or go with friends. Service can seem a little rushed, but it's just the pace - relax and enjoy I say. Fantastic dessert coffee menu and sweets!
