.

I was referred to AC-One Freedom by a business associate, who gave great reviews of their service. I used them for a small repair, which was handled satisfactorily.

About two weeks later, my AC went out again, so I called them. After a quick inspection, I was told I needed a new complressor and was given the option to replace it for $1200.00 or to buy a whole new condenser unit for around $2500.00. I opted for the new compressor, which they installed within a few days. It was "brand new" and came with a one-year warranty.

Approximately two weeks later my AC quit working again. I called them, but they didn't have anyone available until later. Meanwhile, I mentioned my AC problems to another business associate, who told me that her husband was in that line of work and that he could go to my house within an hour or so.

Afther he inspected my unit, he told me it looked like my compressor was getting pretty old and may need to be replaced soon. I was very suprised by this and told him that it had JUST been replaced and that this was supposedly the new one. He showed me where it looked as if it had been repainted and offered to check the serial numbers to see what year it had been built. Turns out it was 16 years old!

When I confronted the owner of the company, I was told that he had bought it new from the distributor and that sometimes they sit on the shelves for a while, but that he was as surprised as me to learn that it was so old. He offered to see if the distributor would exchange it for me since I "wasn't happy with how old it was", but that he knew it was new and that the important thing was that he was offering a one-year warranty. I told him that a one-year warranty on one that was actually new would be more valuable to me than one that was already 16 years old and that I expected him to replace it.

He did comply and replaced it with a new one within a few days. When I saw the new one, I was so astonished at how different it looked from the old one that I commented to the technician that I didn't know how in the world anyone could have mistaken the old one for new. He didn't have a good reply...just kept working and said he'd get me up and running as quickly as possible.

I would like to believe that this company didn't intentionally set out to cheat me; however, I have a hard time believing that they couldn't tell that the compressor they sold me wasn't new. I know next to nothing about AC parts and repair and it was obvious to me.

To their credit, they did make right on the situation, so I chose not to pursue it any further.
