The food was great. The service was pretty good also. The food came out fairly quickly.

This is a good restaurant to just eat and have a conversation.

I'm not sure what is better, the brunch or dinner. Most girls like the breakfast quesadillas... so yummy! The brunch portions are pretty large and come with a muffin. All meals come with their delicious cornbread. The chile relleno is fabulous - not fried like most places. If you're in the mood for a margarita, they are famous for their sixth street ritas.

Absolutely LOVE the view at this Z Tejas. If you can get a seat on the patio it's wonderful. Been here for many brunches and I'm always left delighted. The migas are great. The muffins you get with your meal are always fresh and delicious too.

Imagine my surprise when going for a nice dinner on Monday to find a hidden happy hour gem. My girlfriend and I went to Z'Tejas up North and had one of the best dining experience while watching the sun set over the hill country from their huge outdoor patio. We split a couple of apps not knowing they were half price all night on Mondays and finished up with the seafood enchiladas that were awesome. I will def be back for another Monday.

This place is EXCELLENT! The food is great (I really like the pecan crusted chicken salad) and the drinks are even better!

I've been here many times for dinner, lunch and happy hour and I've always enjoyed myself and had great food/drinks.

Parking is AWFUL -- I highly recommend just doing the valet if you don't stumble across a spot immediately.

You can make reservations for larger parties and I definitely recommend this, since you could be waiting upwards of 1.5 hours if you don't!

For lunch parking is better and I've done "take out". With take out they give you your own package of their corn bread. I love the corn bread! Others I know hate it, so you'll have to decide for yourself.

What I like about Z'Tejas is that nothing is a real let down on the menu and the service is always cheerful. Not to mention their margaritas will pretty much knock you on your b-hind with their delicious flavor, two is plenty...
The Texas Treo app is always good and I tend to stick to the specials although there are a few things on the menu I like quite a bit as well. Even has a good burger if Grandpa doesn't want to have a "Fa-Gee-Ters".
This place is in a standard rotation for the wife and I - even good for kids/families.

My husband, 2-year old son & I recently went to Z'Tejas after a friend told us how delicious the food was. We were HIGHLY impressed with the entire visit there! We visited on a Sunday evening & got sat immediately. Our waitress (whose name was April & was VERY knowledgeable about the menu) greeted us quickly & had waters to our table in what seemed like just 1 minute after we sat down! We enjoyed fresh cornbread & chips and queso before our meal arrived. I HIGHLY suggest the Chicken Mac & Cheese (it has a more fancy name than this but I can't remember it); it wasn't too spicy & was the melt-in-your-mouth mac & cheese that I wish I could bake at home! My husband had pork & said it was delicious as well! (Try the raspberry hibiscus iced tea for a refreshing summer drink as well!!)

All-in-all, I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a nice, quiet place for dinner. They had a beautiful patio out back that seemed to be popular, but we opted to eat inside this visit.

My group of 30+ recently dined here on a Saturday afternoon. We had made reservations without any problems on very short notice. The atmosphere, while noisy at times, is very relaxed and friendly. Our orders and drinks were taken promptly and the food was delivered hot and delicious. Without a doubt, I would recommend the Mango Mojito. It's one of the best mojito's I've had in Austin. I've also tried their margaritas, and they're a bit too strong for my tastes. I asked my waitress for entree recommendations, and the Miso Grilled Salmon as well as the Smoked Chicken Chile Relleno are their most popular dishes. I've had both on separate occasions, and while the salmon was buttery soft and well seasoned, the flavor of the chicken relleno was much more memorable. It's what Tex-Mex is all about! Be sure to check out the view of the hills on their patio. I'll definetly be back to the Z'tejas in the Arboretum.

Pros: Friendly, Great for groups, Delicious food

Cons: Noisy at times

A large group of coworkers wanted to meet up for dinner. Since we all lived in different locations around Austin, I recommended Z Tejas due to it's central location . The atmosphere was enjoyable. The staff was considerate and polite with relatively quick service. However, as the meals were set in front of each person, I noticed looks of disappointment. Everybody commented about the incredible small portion sizes. When you can see more plate than food at the prices we were paying, you can see why there was such disappointment. The majority of the group did not care for the taste of the food either and said they would never return. I personnally enjoyed the food but agree about the skimpy portions. Since it was my idea do go there, I felt very guilty that nobody was enjoying their meal. If you are hungry, I would not go. However, if you are dieting, skip the appetizers, and enjoy your Weight Watchers Portions.

Pros: Ambience

This place was GREAT! We did not make reservations but we were seated in less than 20 minutes on a Friday night. While we waited at the bar the bar waitstaff was attentive to us and our needs. We had a great table out on the patio and the Snapper dish is the WAY TO GO. Even the cornbread while different was good. And I have to mention that the Margaritas are some of the best that I have ever had. I would definitely go back and that's from a hard core Texas girl who knows TexMex flavas.

Went here in Octoiber for a special occasion, food was good. Only complaint was although the place was more thanb 1/2 empty, the food wasn't hot when it reached us. would go back though, even the cold food was good. Service average.

I love this place! The view is awesome, mimosas are great. Sundays for brunch are very fufilling. Get there before the crowd so you can get a table outside with a great view of the greenbelt. The salmon is AWESOME and the cornbread and waffles are as well.

This dessert alone is reason enough to go to Z-Tejas if you love anything chocolate. This pie is served warm with a touch of whipped cream and a sprinkling of cocoa. It makes my mouth water just thinking about it. This is one of my favorite restaurants due to the general outstanding quality of the food, and the overall attentiveness of the waitstaff. My favorites on the menu include Navajo Taco with includes a layer of fried spinach that must be tasted to be believed. It's crispy without being overly greasy. The oyster shooters have been our favorite appetizer and my S.O. sweares Z's rib-eye steak with garlic mash potatoes beats any other steak in town. Yes, the inside restaurant can be loud, and occasionally the waits are long, but the food is definitely worth it!

I visited Z' Tejas about 2 weeks ago with my fiancée and the drinks and appetizers were great. My recommendation is to try the "Perfect Patron". You won't be disappointed. Oh, big props to Jimmy who was the bartender that night. The guy makes "killer" drinks.

Pros: Great Happy Hour Specials

Cons: N/A

Been there twice now. Food is solid, tasty, consistent so far. Service is very good & attentive. I suggest sitting outside for the nice view and it's not as noisy as the inside restaurant. The inside doesn't have an acoustic ceiling so it's noisy. The food is remarkable considering the price point and the menu is varied & creative enough so I'll be back for sure.

Pros: outside seating, free valet, good food

Cons: noisy inside, crowded parking

Great margaritas, good food and lots of local talent.

This is a must-stop after work. Lively crowd and a good menu.

6th street location is excellent as well, and offers better ambiance due to the arrangement of the restaurant.

This location is a poor imitation to the 6th street location. With high valuted cellings the dinning room is very loud. The food is the same but the quality is far lower than 6th street. Save your money and go to Z-tejas on 6th well worth the drive.

I was looking for a nice restaurant to take my fiance' to in Austin. So I searched the net and found Z'tejas. The reviews sounded inviting and the prices looked reasonable. Upon arriving at the restaurant, I thought were were going to have to pay an arm and a leg. The ambience was so perfect it had fooled me. After giving the menu a once over I realized that I had been mistaken. In a nutshell, I loved this restaurant and will be dining there again soon!!!

This is a great, great restaurant. In summer, the view from the patio is unbeatable; in winter, the fireside dining is toasty and romantic. The menu is fabulous -- have been there several times, and every dish that my guests and I have ordered has been amazing. So glad they have this north side location!

This meal was so good that hours later, I was still raving about my meal. I had the pecan crusted chicken spinach salad. Wonderful! Simple, and the dressing was amazing! My friend really enjoyed his mushroom enchiladas. Portion sizes were good, not too big, but enough to make you full. For dessert, we had the wonderful tres leches. Our server was wonderful - friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable about the menu items. I haven't had such good service anywhere in quite awhile. Only con was where we were seated - right by a ramp. If it had been earlier in the evening, it probably would have been irritating, as I'm sure people would have constantly been passing our table. Without tip, for my salad, my friend's enchiladas, a beer and dessert, it was only $30. I can't wait to go back to try something new or get that divine salad again.

Z'Tejas is a great Austin restaurant with southern-tex-mex style food. Very inventive, flavorful dishes, good service, with a southwest flair. This location is mostly populated with yuppie families and groups of thirty-somethings.

Two gripes: the wait at this restaurant is ridiculous any night of the week, especially weekends. Make a reservation if you can. I also greatly prefer it for lunch, because at dinner this is possibly the noisiest restaurant in Austin. Ask to get seated in the lower side or rear patio if you dislike noise. It really gets unbelievably loud, I actually would not recommend bringing small children here because of that, and it's not a good first date place either because of that.

Hint: inexplicably, they recently removed their great chicken-fried-chicken from the menu, but you can still order it.

I will eat at this restaurant just for the dessert. All of it is good, but my favorite is the cobbler. They serve it hot in an iron skillet.

Brunch on the weekends is really good. They don't offer their regular menu items during this time, though.

Can get crowded-make reservations.

I was surprised to find that Z Tejas DOES HAVE a kid's menu, and a good one at that. Try the pasta with chicken and vegetables for a child tired of chicken strips and fries.

The food is great for the adults too! The porcupine shrimp is great as is the pan seared snapper.

Desserts are mediocre, so go elsewhere for that.

I brought out-of-town guests here for Sunday brunch, and they got a taste of Austin! Like Z Tejas's dinner menu, the food is a texmex/traditional combo--think normal brunch fare jazzed up with things like chipotle, fried spinach, and flatbread. Entrees come with yummy muffins, too. We did not need to eat again all day.

Can't beat 1/2 price appetizers til 7. They have killer margaritas (strong -- they'll hit you -- watch out!) and a good couple of draft beers. The ambiance is lovely with a great view of the Hill Country. But be prepared, it gets super crowded.

This place is so yummy! After four years in Austin I finally made it over to Z Tejas last night, and it did not dissapoint. I've read other reviews about waiting, but we got there at 7 on a Thursday and were seated promptly. The appetizers, dinner, and drinks were all great, but bring some hiking shoes for the walk to and from your car.

They are not afraid to do different things and then do them well. The Najavo taco is proof. The atmosphere is gorgeous. Service outstanding. I've never had a bad meal here. The wait can be oppressive so be prepared.

I've lived in Austin my entire life and Z Tejas has become one of my favorite restaurants for lunch and dinner. Although they have restaurants all over the states, I think the style of the cuisine is truly a reflection of Austin's eclectic flair. Their margaritas will knock your socks off and I absolutely love the way they meld different cuisines together to create unique and interesting flavors. I usually get the Grilled Fish Salad for lunch -- perfect portion and the sundried tomato basil vinaigrette is awesome. Highly recommend arriving a little earlier than noon if you're going for lunch.
