4 Stars: Shabby Chic French Dining in the Heart of Humble (by Alain H.)

If you??re looking to celebrate your anniversary, birthday, or another special occasion, or are just in the mood to eat at an extremely nice restaurant, then make reservations and head to Chez Nous.

Chez Nous is one of the finest dining experiences in Humble, with delicious French cuisine ready for you to enjoy. Chef Stacy Crowe-Simonson takes special care of each meal to ensure that it is perfect when it reaches your table. While the menu is expensive, the experience is divine, so well worth your time when you??re ready for the expense.

Chez Nous is not a great restaurant for children, so grab a sitter the night you decide to go. The restaurant for the most part foregoes the usual pretentious nature that you can find at most French restaurants, although the maitre'd can display a flair of condescension if he deems a guest's request is beneath his station. However, the staff is generally unassuming and ready to answer any questions and be of any service.

5 Stars: Simply the BEST! (by by jeanlynne at Citysearch)

I have been a customer for over 15 years and have never had a bad experience. The food is always inventive and the service is the best in the city. On my last visit, which was Valentines Day, the menu was more than fantastic. The Bread Pudding that went with my Filet was delicious. My husband had the veal which was just as good. I will be back!!!!!

1 Stars: Heard so many thigs bad experience (by by raym01 at Citysearch)

Had Valentines dinner ther last night. We were really looking forward to it, had heard so many good things.
Service & atmosphere was fine.
Food another issue my fish (sole) was not fully cooked, half of it was clearly raw, the cooked part had little flavor, it was supposed to have a light sauce there was none, the salmon inside was tasteless.
My husbands steak with a sauce was good according to him but made him quite ill a few hours later, he was up all night & is still ill. He normally has a cast iron stomach.
The $300 price tag for this 3 course meal & 3 glasses of wine was not nearly worth it even before my husband got ill. It was $100 pp plus 3 glasses wine.
Too bad at one time I'll bet this was a great place, it clearly was not last night & I would never return.

3 Stars: Unparalled Food, Strange Looks (by by shammy123 at Citysearch)

I recently had my fifth dinner at Chez Nous. I grew up in Humble and I remember being young and hearing about this strange "fancy" restaurant hidden in our downtown hub. When i was 23 I finally had the opportunity to try it out and I was nothing short of impressed. I took my then girlfriend to celebrate her 21st birthday and we were treated like royalty. Since then we returned twice more. The food is always well prepared and the pairings are sometimes brave but yet they always work together. I have recommended this place numerous times to many friends, but our last experience was not exactly something that we enjoyed.

I don't know what I did, or how I looked but the waiter seemed very rude and snobby to me. The thing is he was our waiter every time we visited Chez Nous. He asked if we had been there, etc and we told him that we were members of the email family and that we know how everything works. We ordered the chefs tour (we like trying many different things) and let me tell you the food was spectacular. This time it was even better then the previous visits. Sadly though the waiter for some reason seemed distracted or annoyed that night. It seems they were training some new people, and he would constantly call them to the corner and reprimand them in our view. It was really distracting to our romantic dinner. We found ourselves feeling bad for what seemed to be new hires.

The part of the night that really got to me was halfway through the meal my wife saw the cheese plate. She heard the selections and wanted one. I then called the waiter over and asked if it would be possible to bring one out. He then said, "you know that will be extra, right?". At first I was confused, was he joking? If I didn't have the money to eat there, then why would i be there? I thought this must be some kind of joke, but I let it slide. I then asked my wife what she thought, and she was insulted too. Half of the reason we go there is for the service and we were not happy with our service that night. We finished the rest of our meal quickly without spending the time to enjoy it, and we left.

I don't know if it was the tone in which he spoke to us, but his demeanor that night insulted me and my wife. I may just be sensitive, but either way Chez Nous did not meet my expectations on service this last time i visited. This should not stop you from trying this absolute treasure, but next time complain if you are treated rudely, like we should have.

5 Stars: Customer For Over 20 Years And Will Be For Over 20 More! (by by amr818 at Citysearch)

My family has been going to Chez Nous for over 20 years. We know the owners after being customers for so long and the welcome is just as warm as the first time we went. The food has NEVER disappointed! It is a sensational culinary experience from beginning to end. Everything is always excellent and always is. My Mother and I were partial to a certain way they used to make their veal and every time we go they accommodate our wishes for the original sauce. I will miss Chez Nous greatly when I move to Los Angeles! Hopefully Mom will take me to Chez Nous each time I come home for a visit!

5 Stars: The best French restaurant in SE Texas (or just about anywhere) (by by ryanlake at Citysearch)

This is the restaurant that's always on the top of our list. It stays there because they know what-works-with-what. We've never tried anything and said "why would anyone put these flavors together?" It is classic yet inventive and consistenly outstanding.

It's really special when you have two people with very different tastes. "He" likes meat and has several favorites. "She" likes fish and lamb and veal and oysters-- and salad after the main course, not before it,

Some people look forward to a special vacation--we look forward to lots of dinners at Chez nous. We aren't 'those' people who are going to be happy 'when'.... We're happy we can have dinner here in the middle of the week for no special reason. So have fun wherever you may go, and we'll stay home and enjoy the food and wine and service at Chez Nous.

5 Stars: Without a doubt, the best french dining in Houston (by by 78597 at Citysearch)

Simply stated, from the decandent entrees to the scrumptuous desserts---- my favorite the creme brulee trio---- there is no better restaurant in Houston. Quite frankly, this is one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at period. The only drawback being that we live on South Padre Island and frequent Houston maybe once or twice a year!

5 Stars: CONSISTANTLY THE BEST FRENCH CUISINE (by by sandyinsnowmass at Citysearch)

Chez nous is about to turn 25 years old this year, I was told upon my last visit there. The dish I love (Tournedos Rossini) was there in the beginning, along with the Duck, Lamb, Chateaubriand and the rest of the "right side" of the menu. I thought at that moment how thankful I am that I will return in 4 months and I WILL have my favorite dish, as many other guests must anticipate savoring their favorite dish with their next visit to Chez nous. I'm always amazed that whenever I return to Houston, I read about this new, hot restaurant with the great Chef so and so who used to be with such and such restaurant. I'll always look for the next gem of a restaurant, so I try them more than once while I'm there. Inherently I return to Chez nous because I know that they will not destroy tradition for the sake of creativity. It's rare that you find that type of respect for the tradition of cuisine, not in ego-driven culinary abominations. If you haven't been, you must, they truly make it feel like "our home"

5 Stars: Best Service (by by JimTX at Citysearch)

Consistently the best service in Houston, and we've been to them all. There is not another top-rated restaurant in Houston in a league with them in terms of service. One of the big differences is, you don't have to be a regular to be treated well, the way you do at so many of the other places. Our child is welcome there also, she has dined with us there since the age of six (but she's quiet and well-behaved).

5 Stars: Great French Cuisine the way it used to be! (by by Monchicourt45 at Citysearch)

We live in France and spend a month in Houston every year, we have been doing this since 1998, that is how long we have known Chez nous, we never miss a chance to visit it and it never misses a beat. The food is glorious, much better than most restaurants in Paris, the service attentive yet restrained, the atmosphere cozy and campy. Their unlikely location in a residential area in Humble speaks volume of their confidence, they know they are worth the trip!

5 Stars: One of the best meals we've ever had! (by by marcyann76 at Citysearch)

My husband and I had dinner at Chez Nous on Sat, Dec. 21. We had the chef's tasting menu. The dining room is formal, but not stuffy or snobby. We were welcomed at the door and promptly shown to our table, even though we were about 20 minutes early.
The first course was a mushroom bisque. The flavors were well developed and not overpowering. The portion was small because the soup was very rich. (I commented that it was basically a delicious bowl of mushroom gravy, and if someone was going to put a bowl of it in front of me, I was going to eat it and like it!)
The second course was a single diver scallop. It was perfectly seared and placed atop some creamy seafood orzo.
Our third course included Chez Nous' own charcuterie--a pate of cold braised pork shoulder that was well seasoned and served with field greens and crunchy baguette croutons.
We ordered an extra appitizer of seared foie gras. It was served with fresh berries, a honey viniagrette and traditional French melba toast.
For our main course, we were served a delectable 6 oz filet mignon wrapped in bacon, accompanied by a madeira sauce and topped with St Andre cheese. On the side were fluffy garlic mashed potatoes and perfectly steamed (and very sweet) carrots and French green beans.
For dessert we were served an apple and peach gallette in a wonderfully flaky crust with homemade vanilla ice cream.
Overall, we could not find anything that could be improved upon. The seasonings and temperatures were flawless and classical French cuisine was not abandonded. The prices reflect the food and not the clientele of the restaurant (they weren't inflated to pay for a swanky location or to impress anyone.) The tasting menu (minus our extra app) was $55, and I had a wine pairing with each course, which added $30. Each wine complemented the food perfectly. Bread and water/iced tea refills never stopped appearing at our table, and each server was friendly and helpful. We truly enjoyed our experience.

5 Stars: Wonderful food and service! (by by txfoodie80 at Citysearch)

My boyfriend took me to Chez Nous to celebrate my long awaited graduation from College! He could not have made a better choice. We had such a wonderful time in this quaint little restaurant. We shared a bottle of wine (extensive list!) and to eat we had a salad, escargot, bacon wrapped tenderloin served w/ potatoes and veggies, and the salmon special served w/ parmesan risotto and roasted radicchio salad. Everything was just superb! We were so full that we were unable to try out the desserts. Maybe next time! We will definitely be back again.

5 Stars: Best romantic restaurant (by by bgaver at Citysearch)

The food is great but it is the service that makes this a special place. The waitstaff are there when you need or want anything but they do not intrude. You can linger over coffee while you talk and you will not be rushed, only asked if you want more coffee. Also, the staff remember you from previous visits.

You should ask to join the email family asthis will get you some discounts. Although the prices are not unreasonable for this quality, I like to save a buck just like everyone else.

5 Stars: Best French Restaurant (by by twoeggs at Citysearch)

CHEZ NOUS is more than a "dessert" or "business dining" place. It is an outstanding French restaurant which caters to all types of trade. A number of us are willing to drive from Champiosn to Humble just for the outstanding fare. We have celebrated birthdays and other important family events there.

The service is EXCELLENT and the staff are both personable and knowledgeable. pfe/Houston

5 Stars: Rebuttal to Sniperpig (by by mlheald at Citysearch)

I was a bit concerned by your name "sniperpig" when I read your review about Chez Nous --a favorite of mine for more than 15 years. I too have dined frequently in France, enjoy gourmet dining and have visited many Michelin Star restaurants--1, 2 & 3 stars. Discounting your name, I thought I might say, that if you only dined once at Chez Nous and the lamb chops were not up to your expectations, something was amiss that evening. I have at one time or another had everything on the menu, and have always had my expectations exceeded. I might add that when the restaurant was temporarily sold to another chef, I had one meal and knew something wasn't quite right. I think you should give Chez Nous another visit as those of us who dine there 6-12 times annually (all my friends feel the same as I) agree it is one of the finest restaurants in Houston. The Healds, Roths, Morminos, Peacocks, Simmons, Fordrees, Sprencels, Weavers ....and many others.

5 Stars: The best food in Houston! (by by jeanbrennan at Citysearch)

I took my wife to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary and we were treated like royalty from the moment we walked in til the moment we left. We had the chef's table which came highly recommended by some work associates. We were blown away by not only the taste but also by the creativity and attention to every detail on the plate. For our dessert, the Chef prepared an incredible limoncello and blueberry souffle. The blueberry compote at the bottom was a great and tastey surprise! What a way to finish a meal. If that was not enough the Chef came out after the meal to wish us a happy anniversary. If you have not yet tried this "hidden gem", don't wait any longer! It is truly worth the drive!

4 Stars: Overpriced Romantic Experience (by by sniperpig37 at Citysearch)

Now dont get me wrong, Chez Nous is a great French Restaurant. Really, a hidden gem like everyone says. The service was great and the presentation was excellent. However, I've been to France, so I've experienced authentic French food first hand, and this did not meet my expectations. If you're going for a romantic setting, I recommend this location, but if you're just going for fine dining, then I would persuade you to reconsider. Maybe your experience will be better than mine, and I hope that it is!

P.S. the lamb chops are not the best as Ive seen other people rave about.

5 Stars: Best special event dining in Houston area (by by micekj at Citysearch)

My wife and I recently dined at Chez Nous for the first time for her birthday. The attentiveness of their staff and their attention to detail was excellent from the moment I phoned in our reservation, till they bid us farewell for the evening as we left their very quaint restaurant.

The menu has a well rounded collection of traditional French dishes and some other choices as well. Their wine cellar is more than adequate. Their daily specials are available to review from their website, which includes a nice variety of current in season dishes that build on and extend on the kitchen's well established French cooking style.

Menu prices were very reasonable. You will not find a "$0.99 menu", but in comparison with other fine dining locations their menu pricing is conservative and the ample portions are prepared with only high-quality ingredients. Our main entrees included their Salmon and Steak au Poivre, both of which were very tender. The salmon was fresh and extremely delicious. My wife stated it was, "the best salmon dish I have ever had."

During the reservation and unprompted, they did inquire whether we were celebrating a special event and took note of the correct spelling of her name. After we had finished our dinner and desert came, it was personalized.

Unlike some of Houston?s other well known fine dining establishments, Chez Nous is an unassuming option. Even if you are not a regular or have notoriety status you will still receive cordial yet welcoming and sincere service from their warm and inviting professional staff.

We will definitely be returning for another dining experience.

5 Stars: Unbelievable French Cooking - in Humble! (by by thescotts at Citysearch)

I have lived in Houston for 3 months so I consider myself lucky to have found Chez Nous so quickly. I must say that this was by far the best meal I have had in Houston - period - and bar none the best French cooking I have had since France. The atmosphere was wonderful, I cannot even begin to find the adjectives to describe the incredible cuisine and the service was impeccable - although I found an escort to the ladies room odd, I none-the-less was enthralled. I have never sampled such incredible fare for such a reasonable prices as well - I appreciate that fact - great cuisine does not have to be outrageously priced. Don't let the 4 $$$$ fool you - it is affordable so don't stay away because of that. This is my new found treat!

5 Stars: "Heart smart" cooking, if need be. (by by derk at Citysearch)

I want to say something about the atmosphere. It transforms me to a quaint little village in France. I understand that they grow their own herbs, which must partly account for the unparalled taste of everything. The service, from the moment you enter the door, makes me feel right at home. But, the real reason reason I visited was the food, and it was wonderful. A truly elegant dining experience. Most of all, I like the seafood dishes. Chef Stacy always accomodates my "heart smart" needs, without sacrificing the culunary traditions of France .

5 Stars: True Dining (by by joshuamac at Citysearch)

Chez Nous re-establishes the experience of true dining, which has proven to be a rare quality. The quaint house and former church serves as the perfect, tranquil setting. Keep in mind when you receive the bill that youre paying for more than a meal but rather la creme de la creme. Not to mention youre treated as royalty and yet not bothered by employees. In conclusion, this trip is worth the money, and then some.

5 Stars: Best overall dining experience in the Greater Houston Area (by by johncaudill at Citysearch)

Chez Nous not only has great food & service, but is a complete dining experience that leaves you with a completely satisfied feeling. First you are greeted and treated as though you were someone very special. The service was not only a joy to receive, but a joy to watch. All of the service people moved like they had been choreographed and no customer went unattended to. It seemed they knew when you needed or wanted something before you asked. The food was outstanding and the presentation was a thing of beauty. The excellent deserts were presented in a manner that making a choice was a difficult pleasure. While dining Chef Stacy came out and visited with customers to insure complete satisfaction. After completing the wonderful meal we were asked several times if we needed anything else. There was no rush to get us out of the restaurant, which was refreshing and showed a touch of class. I highly recommend Chez Nous as the complete dining experience. No matter where you live in the Greater Houston Area the satisfying experience is well worth the drive. My drive was 35 miles one way and I will be back.

5 Stars: Superb! (by by cleodurochat at Citysearch)

Last Tuesday was our fourth visit in three months to this wonderful restaurant and once again it was well worth the drive from sugarland. Chez Nous has the ability to take the dining experience and raise it to the level of entertainment by combining superb cuisine, quietly efficient service and a comfortable athmosphere with great attention to details. I do not remember mentioning that it was my niece's birthday when making the reservation but I must have because at dessert time Jodie was presented with a beautiful taster's plate inscribed in chocolate and in correct French "Joyeux anniversaire Jodie". We lived in Boston, a grest restaurant city for many years but believe me; they do not have anything like Chez Nous!
Thank you Chez Nous, in an age of mediocrity excellence is alive and well in Houston-Humble.

5 Stars: Parisian quality at "Humble" prices (by by sdcurling at Citysearch)

If you have not visited Chez Nous, you are missing a chance of a lifetime. Authentic french food, wine, fanfare, tradition, and true respect and presentation of the art of dining. All this without crossing the ocean. The last wine appreciation dinner that I attended was resplendent with an amazing six course meal with specially selected wines. During each taste, I had to focus on moving the food, as well as the wine gently in my mouth to appreciate all of the chef's subtle efforts for my pleasure. Also, Scott's wine narration was the most detailed and knowledgeable I have ever heard. If you miss the wine dinners, you will love the chef's choice menus. Danielle (chef Gerard's daughter) is an angel in the dining room, and always makes you feel like royalty. The chateaubriand is a masterpiece if beef is your pleasure. If you are looking to impress business associates or that one someone you love...this is the place. I have had many successful recruting dinners here in the private rooms, and also was given my engagement ring at an intimate corner table in the main dining room. I said yes!

The desserts make your heart sore. The chocolate basket is a family favorite. The chefs demonstrate time and again the virtues of local growers, so if you are avoiding french food because of political reasons, you are actually harming our local Texas food artisans. You will taste the difference that a fine chef can make with even the most simple vegetables, such as the exquisite fresh beets. This is one time where you really should, "eat your vegies". Come to Chez Nous planning on an evening of gastronomic pampering.

How do you keep them down on the farm, after they've seen Paris? Take a trip to Chez Nous! Chefs Gerard and Stacy will show you how.

5 Stars: Delicious French food served in a warm and comfortable atmosphere. (by by degreenawalt at Citysearch)

Chez Nous serves fresh seafood entries and homemade soup (often a hot cold selection) daily. We love their rolls, which are served warm with soft butter; and their duck mousse pate delightful. I had their tomato salad, which was locally grown delicious. My wife got their shrimp Provencale, which is shrimp sauteed with garlic and herbs she got hooked first time that she had it. I thoroughly enjoy the fresh seafood dishes - halibut, salmon, mahi mahi, red snapper a treat for the taste buds because their accompaniments consist of fresh fruit, herbs and vegetables which are artfully combined yummy! They treat you great and the food is wonderful. It is definitely worth the drive.

5 Stars: Anniversary or Valentine's Day - You can't beat Chez Nous for romance! (by by larrykdavidson at Citysearch)

After 25 years of marriage - I hope I have learned a thing or two about the 'opposite gender'.
One is that romantic dining goes a long way toward putting your mouth where your ... er .. mouth is .. ha! Saying you love your wife is one thing - proving it with an evening of romance and gastronomic delight is another. This romantic play is presented in several acts - the first act of love is just getting the reservation, followed by getting decently dressed for a change, escorting your blushing bride in the family chariot, and then experiencing the candlelight, the aroma, the service, and the exquisite food offerings together. Believe me when I say - the final curtain call is worth it all! Not to mention you have had a great time yourself (but we don't have to let them know that guys - they can just believe it is another of our Herculean labors of love - ha). My wife and I have been to Paris many times - but it is much nicer to have Chez Nous in your own city. My highest compliments and remarks are always saved for Chez Nous among my friends and family.

When we were eating our final course which was a wonderful raspberry and passion fruit souffle the waiter brought us a fruit compote with "happy anniversary" written in choclate and in french!!! After that we each got a comp. glass of Champaigne!! WOW this could not have been more special. The staff there is excellent and the food was to die for!!

4 Stars: Great for a classic French chef's dinner (by by ananya12 at Citysearch)

Please visit if you would like to have a beautiful and classic chef's dinner! Yes, some of the food is kinda crazy - foie gras, terrines, the usual French staples that we normally don't have on a daily basis. But the service is great and everything tastes good. My husband and I went for an anniversary and it was a great experience.

As someone else mentioned, watch out for wine by the glass - I got charged $9 for a glass of wine that I know can be bought at the store for $10 - $12. But oh well, that's just how it is at fancy restaurants. Regardless, I loved my dinner there!!!

5 Stars: Hidden Treasure (by by jboogie1003 at Citysearch)

It may be a drive, but Chez Nous is worth it! It's like no other restaurnant I've ever dined at before. The quality of the dishes here are amazing, all the ingredients are fresh and the chef isn't wasting time trying to add fancy spices or ingredients.. It's all natural and perfect as is. The wine list is extensive and has a wide price range. Some of the best wines are only 40 dollars! As for the service, the waitstaff is attentive, courteous, and knowledgeable.. just what they need to be and nothing more! I reccomend this find to anyone!

2 Stars: not for manufactured holidays (by by t12ubeauty at Citysearch)

i do not recommend going here on occasions such as valentine's day where they have the opportunity to charge disgustingly high prices. ($70 a person for a 3 course meal) now i wouldn't mind paying the price if the food was spectacular and the service was impeccable...but it wasn't. our server hardly ever came by to check on us. in fact, we bought a bottle of wine and were refilling our own glasses the entire night. shrimp ravioli, beef tenderloin, veal filet mignon..all very mediocre and unoriginal dishes. the strawberry souffle i had for dessert was in fact NOT a souffle. it had the taste and consistency of frozen yogurt. we were sitting so close to other couples that it was uncomfortable.

i don't know how their regular menu is, but being that it is such a far drive, i don't know if i'll come back for another chance.

4 Stars: Jennifer (by by jenniferdyer at Citysearch)

I have been several times with my husband and recommend this restaurant for special occasion dining to many of my friends and neighbors. It is pricey but well worth it. The staff is attentive and aims at being polished. Danielle holds nothing back at making your evening truely enjoyable and remembers us everytime, even on the phone. The food is excellent and worth the drive. the ambience is quaint due to the fact the building is a small house turned restaurant.
Overall - WONDERFUL

5 Stars: Very nice & authentic! (by by hugodb at Citysearch)

My wife & I have been looking for some good crême brulée like they serve it in Europe. When I called to make reservations 3 weeks in advance for our anniversary, I briefly mentioned that it was for that occasion that I wanted to eat there. The day we went, they had remembered that it was our anniversary and had written "Joyeux Anniversaire" in correct French and I didn't even mention once that that was the occasion. The food was delicious and the eye for detail and the well trained staff are unprecedented in Houston.

3 Stars: Satisfied-Wine Is Way Overprice (by by turner_f at Citysearch)

Went to the restaraunt for an anniversary dinner. The food was very good. The service was unsatisfactory. The person that took my order was not a waiter and confused me. It also took an inordinate amount of time to get my check. Also, due to the small dining area, the staff was noisy.

Beware of the wine-They charge $8 a glass.

Overall, I was satsified because my wife enjoyed it.

I was pleased with Chez Nous although it wasn't as romantic as I had hoped, but it might just have been our table placement. It was on the end and we were in the middle of all the hustle and bustle. However, the food was divine and the service was very good. I would definitely recommend it.

5 Stars: What a find! (by by Andrea_Shannon at Citysearch)

We have found our favorite restaurant. You walk into the small, quiet dining room and you seem to walk into another country. The lighting and ambience are lovely and the food is even better. A wonderful and lengthy wine list with so many choices or a chef's table with a perfectly coordinated wine per course. This is, by far, the best restaurant that I have ever dined in.

5 Stars: Memories come alive at Chez nous. (by by kwf4bjf at Citysearch)

Dining at Chez nous reminds me of the wonderful meals my wife and I shared in the finest country inns in France. The Muscovy duck takes me back to a wintery evening and candle light dinner at En Ciboulet in Annecy. Recently we enjoyed the Tournedos with St. Andre, fresh tarragon cream sauce and baby pearl onions. This special meal reminded us of a Lovely dinner at the Lion d'Or in the Loire Valley. The food is always complemented by an excellent wine list and quiet yet attentive service. We visit Chez nous as often as we can and so should you.

5 Stars: Worth the Drive (by by Smanley at Citysearch)

I have frequented this restaurant many times. Every experience here has surpased my expectations. I would recommend ordering the Chef's Table. This is a seven course dinner served with six glasses of wine. These are smaller portions but it is a wonderful way to sample the menu, and the breadth of their cooking expertise. I haven't had a better Lobster Bisque, and the different ways they can prepare a fillet will amaze you. This Chef's Table is priced around 75 dollars, 50 dollars without wine service.
