We have been going to Coit Hedgecoxe Animal Hospital for 9 year for out 5 dogs and over that time period, have spent thousands of dollars there. Over the last couple of years, the professionalism and customer service has been on the decline. This has been marked, by and increasing amount of rude treatment by the staff who, most recently argued with my wife as to when one of our dogs was to be picked up to the point that I had to call Dr. Ulteig directly to clear it up (I was the one who had set the appointment in the first place and the staff was completely wrong). The staff members will not even recognize the fact that you are standing at the desk, waiting to sign in. I would be willing to put up with that IF the treatment of our dogs had been excellent, but that has been on the decline as well. I want to be even handed here and say that Dr. Utleig has always been soft spoken and kind to us and our dogs, but his staff is another matter completely. We have finally moved to the Custer/McDermott Animal Hospital and could not believe the difference in care, professional treatment, politeness and courtesy. We are already very pleased by the vastly improved level of care and treatment. Sadly, after 9 years I would have to say that I could not recommend and would actually tell people to avoid Coit Hedgcoxe Animal Hospital.

Nice place to have your pet receive care. The place is always clean, the kennel people take great care of your pet when boarding. Prices are good for the area. Several of the staff members have been there for years and always greet my pet (and me too) by name. Always professional -- recommending the best care for my pet.

This clinic has been around for years and up until recently I have never had a problem with the staff. For the last six months however things at this clinic seem to be going downhill. The office manager that had been there retired and the new one does not seem to know what he is doing. I have seen more new people in the last six months then I have in the last five years of going to this clinic. A lot of my neighbors use this clinic as well and we have all noticed a change and not for the better. The receptionists, except for one, always look and act like they want to be anywhere then where they are. Chad is the only tech I now recognize, Dr. Trimble has left the practice and every time I board my dog there is a new kennel staff taking him off to the back. Dr. Ulteig seems to have lost the meaning behind his motto. In closing I have decided to change vets as I can never seem to get a clear answer to anything, tired of dealing with new staff every time we go there and simply do not trust their quality of care any longer.

We have been going to Dr. Ultieg and staff for seven years. We have two white bichons, two white great pyrenees and two black cats (color coding keeps confusion to a minimum). We "doctor" there and board the troops when out of town.

I have always found the reception staff warm and caring. The techs are knowledgeable (many have been there for years). The clinic is always clean.

Dr. Ultieg can seem somewhat aloof, however, over the years I have found that sometimes he is deep in thought about what he can do that is best for his patient. He is very dedicated to his practice and animals.

Boarding seems to be the going rate in the area for vet boarding. I appreciate knowing that they know my pets so well, and take care of all thier needs when I am not in town.

For Quality of care I strongly recommend Coit Hedgcoxe Animal Hospital. We moved an hour away and despite the price of gas, continue to use them.

I HAD been going to the clinic for years till recently my last few visits were AWFUL!!! As soon as I eneterd the door I was welcomed with tension and cold responses. The Receptionist there acted as though I was bothering her. When I was escorted to the exam room by the technician he was very cordial and nice and could answer any questions I had with care. When the Doctor Finally made it into the room, he was pleasent, but as soon as he left the room with my animal for more care, my husband and I could hear him talking down to his staff in the back. Once the doctor enterd he was "nice" as can be. Yes he may have had a bad day, but our next visit was the same way. It also seemed to us that he only cared about the money he was recieving from us and once we declined certain options his "nice" interst in us and our animal vanished. When we finally were ready to leave the same receptionist checked us out and we never recived a "Thank you" or a smile. We were also charged over $300 dollars for a simple yearly check-up. Right then and there my husband and I decided to never go back and expressed our experience to all of our friends, some who go there too. They have expereinced the same thing. Since thing we all have chosen to go else where...

The vets were great! A couple of the techs were great! One of the receptionists was great! I only wish I knew all their names so that I could be specific about what I have to say.
I apparently committed a mortal sin today. I mistakenly thought that the office was open until 7. No one advised me that 5:30 was the close of pick-up time, and that the office closed at 6. Sure, I probably could've noticed this somewhere, had I been paying attention, but I didn't. Someone left me a message at 5:45 or so to ask whether I was coming........I called back at 5:55 & the person who answered sweetly told me that they would wait, asked how long I might be, and didn't seem at all "put-out" when I told her where I was & that I was at least 15 minutes away.
I got there at 6:15 and was met with rude, icy curtness all around. I was cheerful, apologetic, thanked them for waiting - hey, I made a freakin' honest mistake - if they didn't want to wait, they should've simply told me that the cat would have to stay another night. It was 15 minutes past the time they would've ordinarily been leaving. They charged me MORE for being late than the charge for the actual boarding fee.
The reason I left my cat overnight in the FIRST place was to give the vet time to perform the $100+ of x-rays that turned out to be unnecessary. I was simply unable to get back until after work the next day (today). I was actually surprised that I was charged a boarding fee for that........... (So that's a boarding fee for X-rays that turned out to be unnecessary, topped off by a late fee that was more than the boarding fee......although the cost was the least of my concerns.)
I am a nice lady. I am willing to spend/do whatever it takes to provide my pets with nice lives. I have 2 young animals who could be longtime patients, and I plan to get at least one more. In short, I am the kind of customer vets usually like.
There is SO much competition in the veterinary field. Why would I go back there now?
A little professionalism and understanding go a lot further than immaturity and plain bad manners. This was a loss all the way around.

I have to be honest and say that the office is clean and some of the staff were friendly. The receptionists could learn their job better, the techs seemed a little rushed, but the vet was great. Dr. Michalk explained everything she was doing, asked if I had any problems at home and if I had any questions. She took her time and that made my visit great. I have also boarded my dog there and have to say the kennel attendants were fantastic. Make sure you ask for Kelly or Dez. Both girls treated my pet like one of their own. I have dealt with all three vets up there and have to admit I prefer Dr. Michalk. And their prices are reasonable. All in all so so vet care as long as you know who you are dealing with.

We took our Golden to this animal hospital since he was 7 weeks old for 4 years. They were nice, yes, the whole time. Then we found out our pet has cancer. The oncologist they referred couldn't see us for another 2 weeks.I called Coit Hedgcox to get more help. The person on the phone was cold, and said they couldn't do anything and no other oncologist available to see my pet sooner. She was not helpful and no sympathy. They do not want to offer any additional help or direct us to additional sources when we really need that kind of opinions.

PROS: When your pet is healthy, yeah, you might count on them
CONS: When you need special guidance and help, forget it!

I really love this office. It's very clean, the people are very nice and friendly. The doctor is nice, but seems to push services we dont want-- extra vaccinations, tests that dont seem necessary. It could be lack of communication. Perhaps he isn't explaining things to us, but I see no reason for some of the things he suggests.

The vaccinations on my small dog are about $150, where I can go to Petco for $12. I don't understand why there is such a large difference, but it truly bothers me.

I will say when my animals are sick, this is the first place I normally go. If only they had better hours.

Great animal hospital. I take my cat there. To board a cat for 24 hrs it is only $12, which is fairly cheap. Nice clean facilities with friendly staff. Great location--between Coit and Hedgecoxe. Quick service--in and out. Veterinarians are very knowledgeable and take the time to talk to you.

My cats and dog have been going to Dr. Gregor Ulteig and his staff all their lives and have received excellent care. My dog was diagnosed with lymphoma by Dr. Ulteig and was placed into chemotherapy immediately at a specialized clinic. The treatment saved his life!
