I guess some people are too retarded to understand. If this store was soo great like some of these people that cant put two and two together say it was, then why did it shut down? This pet store is one of the greediest! Of course they are going to SEAM like they know everything about what they are selling, so does a car dealership, and we all know how honest a car dealership is. How else would Petland be able to sell anything. ALOT of the people that worked there couldnt even tell the difference between a male and a female small animal!! How can anyone work at a place of business and be put on a sales floor without knowing the basics?Petland will tell you anything to get you to spend as much money as you can spend at their pet store, and once Petland has got you to spend your money they will wash their hands of you.Petland sold mixed breed animals and then would LIE to your face and tell you that the animal is a full breed, they give medicine to animals when the animals are NOT even sick and some of the medicine ends up killing the poor animal. And if Petland did make a mistake which was VERY often in my expeirance they showed NO concern to even help you or fix THEIR mistake. Also do people really think that a pet store that will just let the kids hold and basically do what they want with the animal is a good pet store? You are sadly mistaking if you think that the animals like to be dropped and ran around with, that is torture for a little animal! NO limits!! NO rules, NOTHING!! I started spending the extra time and money to go to petsmart or petco. At least I know that those pet stores know what I'm getting and they actually cared about the animals. I'm NOT the least bit surprised that Petland went out of business it's about time!! What I'd like to know is how a company can get away with sooo much for soo long?

I worked at petland from august of 09 until the day the door shut. petland was an amazing place. i started when i was pregnant and they welcomed me with open arms and basically took care of me. yes, there were flaws, but if you went there before the last owner took over you would have seen amazing staff and happy customers. the people who worked there were not snobby at all. atleast when i worked there. we were all a family and we did care about our customers more than ya'll would know. i want you all to know that if it does open again expect very helpful people and i hope ya'll will go back then.

Terrible. That's the one word I can think of for them. Sure, the selection is good, but so is the selection of parasites. Half the tanks have signs of disease, I bought a valentini puffer from them and it died a few days later. My water quality is perfect. They also sold me a sailfin tang for a whopping 70 dollars, telling me that it would do fine in a 55 gallon. Nope. A full grown one needs a 125 gallon. It's sick to boot.
I wanted to return it, so I called ahead. They told me I would have to speak with the aquatics manager, who wasn't in at the time. They told me to call back in an hour. I did. He still wasn't there. They told me to call back in 50 minutes. He STILL wasn't there. 30 minutes. Wasn't coming back at all.
With few exceptions the service is snobby and rude. When they do get around to answering a question, half the times it's a lie to try and get you to buy the fish. The manager of the aquatics department, when he's actually there, acts like he doesn't have time for my philistine quandries.
Don't go here. I wouldn't have given it even one star, accept that they don't let you submit unless a star is selected. Unsatisfactory is an understatement here. I would be so happy to see an out of business sign on their front door.

A Horrible Experience that has now turned into a NIGHTMARE. Purchased a Silky Terrier on 9/26/09 for 7yr old grandson, the puppy died from Parvo 72hrs later. No concern expressed by owner. Our grandson was so distraught about his puppy being ill, we could not bring ourselves to tell him the puppy died. The store replaced the puppy on 10/7/09, that puppy seemed to be having breathing problems, took the puppy to the vet and the puppy had an upper respiratory infection 10/14/09, they gave medicine and breathing treatments. That was on Weds., by Saturday the puppy was worse (even on antibiotics), today 10/19 the puppy began foaming at the mouth, barely breathing, vomiting and a fever of 104, this time the vet sent me to a 24hr hospital. Once there the vet advised the puppy has pneumonia and possibly distemper. Our grandson has seen his puppy only a few days; he believes it has just been sick and will get better. The level of disappointment and rage at this Petland goes beyond comprehension. Who sells sick puppy after sick puppy? How do you get away with this? My grandson is shattered, yet, continues to put pictures of the puppy (Gracie) up all over his bedroom with the hopes he will be fine and return well. They should be ashamed of themselves. Both Petland Corp and the owner have shown no compassion, they might as well be selling shoes. By the way, the first puppy infected our house and it had to be bleached to try and get rid of the virus, all of the toys, bedding even food bowls were trashed for fear of infection. No financial concessions were made??? Can you imagine putting a family through such trama and they are perfectly OK as long as they have the money in their pocket. Today, they make me put down a $1400 deposit to try and save the puppy. They should go to jail for such practices.

I will never never ever step foot in that place again!!!!!!! It is the worst place and the worst customer service place there is. I won't go into my experience buying a dog there. But pls don't ever purchase an animal from those greedy people. The dog I purchased turned out not to be what they said it was and then wouldn't do anything about it. They lie lie and lie more...... they are only out to make money at your and the poor animals expense. PLS STAY AWAY FROM THERE...THEIR PUPPIES COME FROM PUPPY MILLS...YOU ARE MUCH BETTER OFF PURCHASING FROM A BREEDER DIRECT....PLUS YOU WILL SAVE A TON OF MONEY AND NOT END UP WITH A SICK PUPPY!!!!!!! I AGREE " BAD BUSINESS RUDE AND GREEDY PEOPLE" .......

I've purchased a few animals, each time hoping they would live longer then the last. (More than a week or two.) I've bought rabbits, and hamsters. Which have all died! :| I even went all out in buying supplies and making their homes acceptable, but they still die. I had two hamsters from a breeder, and bought in one from petland. He must have had some sort of illness that he spread around because once i brought him in, and even in a different room, they all died. They mix up the exotic animals, and you never know when they may be pregnant.

Just a tacky place to buy a pet.

Petland is the single largest customer of puppy mills in the entire United States. They state they only buy from "USDA Approved" kennels. USDA Approved kennels ARE puppy mills! And kitten mills, too. Petland is notorious for lying to the gullible and unsuspecting public, giving false breeder numbers (To the Hunte Corporation in many cases), rarely an address because most people are not going to drive several states away to see the breeder - I mean, puppy mill for themselves. They tout the "Hunte Corporation" as their supplier of puppies - which they are - they are puppy mill brokers. The puppies are "laundered" through them. They buy the puppies from the mills and sell them to Petland. No local, "responsible" breeder (as if there were any) would be able to stock the Petland stores with endless supplies of puppies of all breeds unless there were hundreds of pairs of different breeds i.e. puppy mills. Nor would any breeder who claims to "love" their dogs sell to a corporate giant that treats animals as nothing more than inventory. Don't let them fool you; do the research. They are all very trained in their deception, and it sounds above board if you don't check it out. Remember, every time you buy, a shelter dog dies. If you want a specific breed, go to Petfinder. com - they specialize in all breeds, ages, sexes and sizes. And they don't cost thousands of dollars. BOYCOTT PETLAND!

Pros: None

Cons: Everything from service to selling puppy mill puppies

I have been buying both fresh and saltwater livestock from them for a few years now and I am always impressed with the health, variety, and cleanliness of the aquatics department. Usually the staff is above average to excellent on knowing what they are selling and guiding people through all of the care aspects of the aquatics industry. As someone who has been raising, breeding and enjoying fish for over 35 years I strongly recommend the Lewisville Petland as a quality place to buy aquatic livestock.

Actually I work at the Petland at Preston in Dallas, and it is a perfect place to get pets!! We are all animal lovers that have been also extensively trained to care and explain how to care for all the types of animals we have. WE ARE NOT A "PET STORE" LIKE "PETSMART" OR "PETCO"!!!! These are primarily supply stores that quit carrying animals due to lawsuits from lack of care and housing abilities. Petland is a global private franchise that takes pride in customer service and the utmost care of the animals. We are dedicated for finding the right pet for the right customer and meeting the needs of both! We get ALL of our animals, including the puppies, from U.S.D.A. approved hobbyist and breeders, and the animals are not taken from their mother until they are weaned and are in 14 hour a day care EVERYDAY thereafter. They are transported in specialized climate controlled trucks and checked by at least 3 veterinarians before they even go on sale, and are visited by a veterinarian every week thereafter. We do not believe in substandard facilities such as "puppy mills" and in no way condone it. ALL of our animals are played with and socialized everyday all day long, and would not sell one that is otherwise. You CANNOT get that guarantee from any "private seller"! We also cover the intial veterinary visit after purchase in addition to the spay and neuter, and the puppy is guaranteed to be current on ALL of its vaccinations. All of the puppies are also microchipped and come with lifetime training assistance, so please tell me of any "private seller" that does that! We also welcome anyone to come play with our puppies and animals, they need all the love they can get, even if they dont go home. That makes us a great place to bring the kids!! Come on in and experience Petland for yourself, and you'll see all the stuff you've been missing going to "those other guys"!

I went to petland to buy an english bulldog about 3 weeks ago. We wanted a female but didnt want to spend $4,000 which is what most of them cost. They told us they had a female for $2,200 but she was sick and couldnt come out. She was expected to get better and we could own her when she was well. The told us to come back the next day to see her. We did and they have such HORRIBLE communication we made the trip for no reason. Still couldnt see our soon to be puppy. So they took down our name and number and told us they would call us as soon as she was well and she would be ours. 3 weeks go by and still no call. I went in there today to ask and they had sold her earlier this morning. I asked why they sold the dog i was promised 3 weeks ago. The very RUDE lady said "well u didnt talk to me, i take care of my customers..whoever talked to u obviously didnt care!" EXCUSE ME?????? do i have to talk to a specific person to buy a dog? i am the one spending 2 grand here for a dog! She told me i could not get that price for another dog that it was just a special for that specific dog. F PETLAND!

i felt as though the people who work there are very snobby and rude and I did not enjoy my experience at all. They act as thought they know everything about the pets they are selling - which is fine -if they weren't so condescending about my own experiences and knowledge.

How tragic for the pets in our community that there are still people in the pet 'business' that sell kittens/cats, puppies/dogs, rabbits & ferrets.

How many years ago has it been that PETsMART and PETCO showed the world that they could be very successful and have a lucrative business and NOT sell cats & dogs? Both PETsMART and PETCO support your community (therefore helping to save your tax dollars) by working with humane & rescue groups.

Before you buy a pet from PETLAND DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Where do they get their "livestock"??? Why would any reputable breeder sell to a pet store when they can make 2-3 times as much money per animal selling directly to the owner? How old were the infants when taken from the mothers? How much human contact did they have, starting at what age (how socialized are they)?

I am a humane volunteer and have been for 20 years. I hear horror stories every day from people who have purchased pets from pet stores. Many of them felt sorry for the babies in the store and purchased for that reason. Others simply didn't know the pitfalls of pet store pets until it was too late. In the end it didn't matter why they purchased, the vast majority wished they had been educated and had adopted humane instead.

Search online about puppy mills before setting foot in this store or any pet store that sells pets.

You'll find an endless list of humane and rescue groups online at petfinders and you'll probably find at least one group working adoptions out of your local PETsMART and PETCO every weekend. They are volunteers, they don?t make money fostering & adopting animals.

Please don't buy when so many die in our shelters.

Thanks for listening. What I have stated here is not as much my opinion as it is my experience over the last 20 years. I've talked to a ton of people with broken hearts & sick or dying pets. If you truly care about pets & animals this is really important.

This Petland is a friendly place to visit. The kids love seeing all of the pets on display. The staff is friendly and seems knowledgable. They adopted my pet when I needed to find a home for it.

This store has excellent customer service. They also have puppies, kittens in the store, so it is so much fun to look at the adorable pets and/or hold them. They have many pet products that Petsmart doesn't carry. And, they run good sales on their products. If you go there, ask for a frequent customer account, they will reward you for shopping there.
