I guess it is apparent that people who went to Woodforest National Bank on a second chance account have alot of respect for the bank. I personally started at 16 with a Woodforest National Bank checking account 13 years ago (my grandma worked at the first branch). Through the years I found myself switching banks regularly because there was always something going on the create havoc on my accounts (sometimes personal infliction and sometime BAD bank policies!). Through the years, I found myself back in a Woodforest second chance account. A couple years ago, I was badly overdrawn and could not pay it. At another bank, I would have immediately pulled my direct deposit off of my account in order to have money for bills, but even with bad credit and banking history, these guys offered me a loan account to pay off my debt (no fees involved). Since then, I have upgraded my account status from second chance by simply not overdrawing my account and having steady direct deposits. Not to mention, I get $500 overdraft protection and I always get my bread a day before my co-workers.

I am not sure about WFNB for equity loans and credit cards until they reach a more National level, but for standard banking, I cannot see why some have such complaints. They seem to be a "people's" bank. Alot of "regular" people are missing out on banking with such an understanding and high customer service provider. There are no questions to me about fees and services, because the provide online tutorials and have literature within the stores clearly letting you know what things cost.

I actually rate at 4.5 stars, but it wouldn't let me pick that.

Woodforest has made ripping off the lower income and elderly a fine art. The positive reviews on this site are from shills employed by Woodforest to "sanitize" it's reputation a bit.

Go to sites like "Rip-off Report" or "My Bank Rate" and you'll see hundreds of negative reviews about nearly every aspect of Woodforest.

My own gripe involves the excessive delays Woodforest puts on checks people deposit. Recently I deposited a local check and Woodforest put a 7 business day hold on it. The check was for $794 and I've been a customer with Woodforest for over 10 years and have checking & savings account. Well, I DID have both checking and savings accounts. Now I've switched to ING direct which has free atm's, free debit cards, pays me interest on checking and holds checks for two business days.

Woodforest National Banks blows!

I have been a member of WF for over ten years, At first I was apprehensive, but came to find out that it wasn't all that bad...until recently. I had referred 2 of my grown children to WF to open an account. They asked if they could put me as a beneficiary ONLY! I come to find out that recently my daughter had an OD of almost 200 dollars and what happened next shocked me! They withdrew some of the money from my account as well as my son's account, because all three of us have an account with Woodforest. How is this possible or even legal for them to do this??? It is like they have moved my funds from one acct to another without my permission? I I am going to get to the bottom of this, but for others beware if someone you know wants to put you down as their beneficiary at Woodforest.

Woodforest is one of two banks that does second chance checking. I'm not sure if some of you bashers realize this but it is sooooo risky for a bank to do 2nd chance with OD protection! They lose money helping the people that the other banks won't take. Here's the secret guys...Don't write checks if you have no money to back it, Don't use your debit card to pump $60.00 worth of gas when you have $ 12.55. I'm a second chance checking account holder, and I'm 26 years old. A lot of blame for the current economy has been dumped on our parents and grandparents, but our generation for the most part are lost, we need to change how we do things everybody! Look inward not outward! This Bank Rocks!

I, too, like Woodforest. I have banked with them since 2004 and they have always been good to me. I get my paycheck a day earlier, the deposits post the same day, they are open all but one day of the year, and open late that so I have no real complaints. The only thing that bugs me is on my second account where I have direct deposit is they charge me $5.95 if I go under $100. I guess that's reasonable but I am planning to switch both mine and my husband's direct deposits to the primary account. Other than that I love them.

I opened my account after a messy divorce. The tellers were kind and caring. I travel for business and had no difficulties until I enterd a location in southern Virginia. For some reason these guys wanted to place a hold on my paycheck. I did not change employers. Like many people, I could not afford a 7 day hold. I had to open another checking account in a different bank. Cash my paycheck and then deposit it into my Woodforest account. Finally had teller at the inital branch put something in the computer and no more trouble with deposits. Seems so stupid...If one guy can take 2 minutes to fix the issue...why couldn't someone else at another branch do the same thing......

To make it Short and Sweet. This is a great place to bank. They are open 7 days a week. No matter what time you make you Deposit it gets credited that day, even at closing time which could be 8PM. My direct deposit is always in 1 day earlier than it should be. I already have my check credited when all the people at work which bank at other banks do not have theirs until the next night in their account. They always give Wonderful customer service. Come on people I worked with banks for 18 years and they do what they have to do because of all of the Criminals out there trying to find ways to beat the system. I now work for 8 Drs. I recommend this bank FOR SURE. !!!! WOODFOREST YOU ARE GREAT !!!

I've been banking with this bank for over 3 years now with no problems. They are very helpful and customer service in my area has always been great. They offered me a 2nd chance account when no one else would and I've been a great customer to them for it.

I once had my account terribly overdrawn and couldn't catch it back up. Every week my whole check would be taken because of overdrafting...my fault. I went in to ask what could be done because I saw no end to the overdrafts any time in the near future and simply can't afford to keep paying out money for fees. They immediately covered all my overdrawn balance into a loan and credited my account with the amount of my previous paycheck. All in all it came to about $1000 and when it was over my account had a positive balance and all my overdrafts were paid. They set me up on a 1 year payback in monthly installments and I just paid it off last week. I've never in my life had any bank do something like this for me!

People complaining about security procedures need to get with it. There are scams around every corner now days and it's in a banks best interest to make sure all transactions are on the up & up. If your money was in this bank wouldn't you be glad they double checked anyone trying to cash a check on your account? I'm happy they verify any check written on my account. I mean, seriously...getting upset because they fingerprint you to make sure you are who you say you are?!?! If you're not an account holder they don't know you from Adam, why would they not make certain you are who you say?

Seems to me it's the people who don't hold accounts at the bank who are doing the most complaining here...and they're complaining because of bank security measures...what's that say? And to those who do have accounts and complaining...have you people never banked anywhere before? I haven't read one complaint that didn't describe experiences I've had at any bank in America.

I've never banked with any bank where I've had such good service. Many banks where I've had accounts I've been treated like a criminal even though it's my bank. @ WNB I'm always treated as if my money matters even though I rarely have enough in my account to matter much at all. I wouldn't recommend any other bank I've ever been with more than I would recommend this one.

I made a serious error of judgement when I opened an estate account @ WNB. EVERY single check,no matter how reputable the company, has been put on a 10 day hold.Today, I deposited what I hope is the last check. It was from the family attorney for part of a settlement. Check was drawn on another local bank, high check #, and from an extremely reliable firm. Guess I should be happy that today I only got a 7 day hold. As soon as it clears, I will be removing every single peeny and shall never step foot near WNB. Not to mention how impersonable their customer service has been. I pity anyone who has to do business with this bank. I did not have to, I chose to for conveinance. Not worth the trouble!!!!!

I closed my account at Woodforest. Woodforest charged me like $6.00 because my account balance fell under $100 during the month. That is a new policy that started back in June or May of 2010. Checkout it is the truth. This bank had made alot of money on me. They charge $5.00 for every document they notorize. At Bank of America notorizing is free to customers.

my check hits every thrusday and yesterday i over drew and didnt mean to.. and the hit me with 2 over draft fees where did the 7 days go. it is only 2 to 3 days at the most... This bank sucks and will tell you anything and then not back it up...

I love this bank, I have an overdraft limit that they will pay and I get paid on Thursday instead of Friday like everyone else at my company and that's because I have direct deposit. I have not had a bad experience I just wish they had more locations.

I have been with Woodforest Bank in Maryland since Jan 1,2010. I was tired of being screwed over by Bank of Nazi's (America) and Walkoverya (Wachovia). I have had NO issued with them and to tell you how they treat me as a customer, I recently was out of work because of an accident and my account became overdrawn, not because I was writing checks, but because I wasnt working I wasnt getting paid ergo, no money in the bank and then all my automated payements hit... in a matter of two weeks, I was negatived over 900$ . I was able to drive this week to the bank and explained what happened.... They knocked off a few of the fees. and since well it was my fault because I couldnt get the creditors to stop the autopays fast enough, they closed my account for me, turned it into whats called a Take charge account. in essence, they "loaned" me that amount... opened me a new account and are taking a fee each month to repay the old account. You know I was in tears worrying about this and then they offered me this option, and i said why not.. it straightened everything out. My account is with the George Clauss branch inside of WalMart. The branch manager Jerri is very nice... I see all these complaints and alot of good comments.... Woodforest Bank really is a true bank. They look out for you..

I worked for Woodforest for years, they are a great company with great benefits and treat their employees well. Most people don't know how banks work...the thumbprints are not to make you feel like a criminal, it is standard procedure at almost every bank to take a thumbprint for non account holder because there is so much fraud associated with bank/check cashing...same reasons holds will be placed on larger checks, especially personal checks...you'd be surprised at how much fraud there is and how creative people can be..creating there own checks, check kiting and much more. We need to take every precaution we can to protect the bank and it's customers. As for fees, you are notified of any types of fees you will ever see ,during the time you go over the disclosures... if there is ever a fee you feel you were given unfairly anyone at the branch will be more than happy to assist you and go over the account with you and take measures to prevent it from happening in the future... they offer many educational programs for customers to help learn about banking and prevent the same mistakes from happening again...approvals are required again, at almost every back...each teller has their specific teller limit...this is to prevent employees withlower seniority trying to make decisions that they aren't ready to make...larger checks need to be verified and looked at by a second person(usually a manager) for (approval) this isn't to inconvenience you, again, it's to ensure protection for the bank and customers.

I have been looking at some of the post about Woodforest Bank, just have to say this. Did some of the people who complained about the fact it took blank amount of days to verify a check think that well the people out there hand out crazy fraud checks that resemble the real thing so the bank is covering their ass so that they won't have to either A. Make up that money B. Make up the money by taking it back out from your account or C. Do something else that hurts their business. Also about the fact that some people felt criminal and had to get fingerprinted to cash a check, again this is the bank covering their ass. No other bank does it cause they can either make the money back up or they just don't care, as far as I know all banks in my area fingerprint. Hell Wal Mart, Krogers, and a few other places ask you to put your fingerprint in the system. The world is very dangerous and people are getting better and better at scamming, if you don't like the way the bank do business I am sure Woodforest wouldn't care to close your account for you if all you going to do is slander the bank. And on that note I end my post good day to you all.

When I first started banking there i was totally impressed with the services they had to offer.Since then i have experienced a lack of good customer service. I'm experiencing customer service reps that seem overworked and I feel as though I am bothering them. They seldom make me feel welcome. The only reason I stay is because of the second chance acct which no other bank in my area offers.Customer service is or should be outstanding and every customer should be made to feel like they have a trillion dollars on deposit there.

I have been banking with Woodforest for a year. Everytime I go in there they treat me like I am their favorite customer. They are nice and professional. They did put a seven day hold on a 4000.00 personal check but they would be stupid not to. I asked for some of the money before the 7 days and they gladly gave me 1000.00 of it. They never charge to cash my daughters paychecks and their hours are sooo convenient. It makes it nice to bank go to the grocery store, post office and grab some lunch all in one place. I bank at the one on 290/Brodie in Austin Texas.

I have been with Woodforest three years, I have had a couple issues which were resolved quickly. With the amount of scams now, I understand their need to verify and sometimes hold items. Its your responsibility to keep up with your account and balance, it takes two minutes! Also I have been fingerprinted at bank of america for a $75 check because I had no account, thats not discrimination, they are just covering themselves, DUH!

Celina, OH- I do not bank with WNB and will never. I have rental properties and was given a check from here. Went to cash the check. I gave my drivers licence as requested, she did all the verifing and then handed me an ink pad and wanted me to finger print the check! For only $250! I don't bank there for a reason why would I give them my finger print. When this bank came into town local businesses wouldn't except checks from this bank. Now businesses won't except checks. I see why. It is all due to this bank. They don't want discriminated against, but they will discriminate me because I don't have an account there and they want my finger print. I would recommend Mercer Savings Bank or Chase Bank - awesome online banking, no hassle. Safe and Easy!

Stay away. This is the only bank where they have to get approval to take a deposit. I understand why they are located in Wal-Mart. Based on the amount of the deposit you will have between 30 minutes to over 1 hour to shop in Wal-Mart. This is how long it will take for them to complete the deposit.

They will also tell you one thing, then do another. Buyer beware!!!

Went to the branch to cash from JP Morgan drawn on Chase Bank. The Branch manager proceeded to treat me like a criminal. He insisted on verify that the check was authentic and the account was active. After verifying that the account was active he still refused to cash it. I explained to the manager how I needed my money and he proceed to start yelling at me infront of other customers after tell me they would verify and cash the check he dicided since they couldn't get the total amount that JP Morgan held in this account they were not going to cash it. The customers were is shock to see his behavior. Needless to say I took my check left and want to different bank where I also held and account and the proceeded to cash the check. I would not recommend this bank to anyone not even my worse enemy. Their customer service is very poor. This is not the first time I've had to deal with poor customer service with them try calling their 1-800 number, that's a big waste of time.

I have been with Woodforest National Bank for over 4yrs now and have only had an issue with them once; which they took care of immediately. I bank in Carrollton, Farmers Branch and in Arlington and the customer service is great and the customer service is great at all 3 locations. Your money is always available immediately, but I have had a case where my check was held for 10 days. The check was written from a bank from out-of-state and could not be easily verified, however, it was available on the 10th day. There has to be some guidelines and rules....it is a bank after all. I recommend this bank to anyone who has had banking issues and needs to open a banking account, but can't with your traditional banks. I had some issues with my account and drew several hundred dollars of fees and they let me keep my bank account and allowed me to pay out the fees in a seperate account. They only took monthly payments from my account as we agreed in writing. I love this bank!

Opened an account with Woodforest. Thought it would be convenient...plus they advertise that funds are availble immediately when you make a deposit! Yay! NOT>
Over the first few days, I deposited 3 very large paychecks, and some cash. On the second check, the branch manager came over and said he had to hold the check for 11 (yes, ELEVEN) days.
I told him to just give the check back to me, and I'd go to the bank it was written on to cash it. He said "no, no...just go ahead and deposit it, I'll make the funds available to you...". So I deposited it, I asked if he was absolutely sure my funds would be available immediately as I had bills to pay. He said "YES".
I rented a new house, had utilities turned on, etc. all with checks I wrote on the account.
SEVERAL DAYS LATER, I used the ATM and it showed NO money in my account! I went home, checked online, and some idiot in Texas with the bank, had placed another hold on my money! I checked with my employers by the way, and my checks had ALREADY CLEARED THEIR BANKS!
I called the branch manager, he says "sorry, nothing I can do"...and in the meantime they are bouncing my checks! They have ruined my rep with my new landlord, caused my utilities to be turned off...and Woodforest is charging my account with NSF fee's for all of them! And during this whole ordeal the branch manager tells me "just keep making those deposits!"...yeah, right!!! I'm gonna keep giving them my money that I worked my butt off for??? NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AGAIN!...I am filing a complaint with the BBB, and FDIC. I am also looking for a lawyer! These scam artists need to be stopped! And if you check close enough...the "good" reviews you read...is probably written by folks who are EMPLOYEES of the bank!

This bank is a scam! Don't fall for their crap!

I used to work for them in Pennsylvania...not only did they give absolutely NO training, they hired a HORRIBLE manager for my location who was more excited about the McDonalds in the store than helping the retail bankers (and she wonders why she gained twenty pounds), their benefits were absoultely awful, and some of the employees shared PRIVATE information with their friends about customers accounts. NEVER get an account at Woodforest!!

Dude if you dont owe them money you coulda handled it with a simple call. Or request ur bank statement and see where u messed up. I had money missin from my account and they fixed it before the end of the day! Dude was just broke and tried to pull a fast one. And u only pay to cash a check if u aint got an account wit them.

How stupid are you? Why would to go to a bank where you owe money to cash a check? Did you think they wouldn't know? Have you ever heard of a computer? You should probably stay away from banks.

Woodforest National Bank doesn't have the most locations of traditional branches, but it does have a few retail branches with Wal-Mart. The hours are good if you have to make a deposit up until 8pm at night during the week up through Saturday. And you can deposit on Sundays. Right now, they have a good CD available. I think my only problem is OD and NSF, but that is a money management on my part. Who doesn't have that problem? We all could use money management techniques!

Actually if you owed them money that makes you the crook, they were just collecting the money that was rightfully theirs. And by the way onece you sign a check over it becomes legaly theirs anyway. you can call the cops all you want they have a right to do what they did! Woodforest ROCKS!!!!
