I took 2 big boxes a clothes and shoes, many new w/ tags and a stroller in like-new condition and they were going to give me only 14.67 for everything. I couldn't believe it. I took all the clothes and the stroller and sold on facebook resale pages for much, much more. I love buying at Once Upon A Child, but I will never sell there. They will rip you off.

My fiance has 2 young daughters, ages 10 and 6. We only have them every other weekend, holidays for about a week, and one month in the summer. In October of 2011, their mother stopped sending clothes with them for their visits with us. We went and spent over $150 on clothes for them. We bought each of them 4 pairs of pants and 4 shirts. The brands were Justice, Lee, Vanilla Star, and Disney. They already had a few clothing items at our home, so these new clothes we alternated with the other clothes. I just counted a total of 24 days that we had the girls since October. Each set was worn approximately 5 times. One pair was only worn ONCE because the oldest thought they were "scratchy." The girls don't play outside very much, instead, we go to a covered park with wood chips.

Anyways, I took 5 pairs of these jeans into OUAC on a Saturday at 1 pm, because they no longer fit our daughters. They told me I would receive a call after 5 pm telling me my items/money were ready and to pick them up. By the next afternoon, around 2 pm, I still had no call from them. Since you only have 24 HOURS TO CLAIM ITEMS/MONEY or you FORFEIT them, I called the store. They said that my stuff was ready, so I shuffled my schedule so I could go pick up my money. They refused a pair of the LEE jeans and said they had "light staining." THAT'S HOW THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO LOOK! THAT'S HOW THEY WERE BOUGHT, BRAND NEW! It gets even better... they gave me a whole $5.85 for the other 4 pairs of jeans! I went back yesterday, and guess what? All 4 pairs of jeans are being sold at $6.50. That's $25 total, with a
$19.15 profit!!!

It kind of ticks me off. I didn't expect to get a whole bunch of money, but really??? They could've given me $9. THAT would've been more fair, especially with the clothes being almost completely brand new.

To be honest I like the store. whenever i have to clean out my son's closet after giving it away or whatever i take the rest to once upon a child i know at a garage sale or any where else for that matter your not get your full amount of money back. a garage sale is too much work plus you gotta pay extra for the little things you have to display your items. so i take it to once upon a child and take my offer. The girls are really nice i have no complaints except for maybe i can get a tad bit shy around the pretty ones. point blank in my opinion "if you are looking to make big bucks at once upon a child then the place is not for you, BUT if you are trying to get rid of the remaining of your clothes then you are in the right spot and you get extra bucks in your pockets especially for us single parents. hope this was helpful to someone

I went to the one in Mesquite as it is the closest one to me, despite the previous reviews. The system seems to be organized. I had brand new bouncer, sling, pajamas, new bottle warmer (which they did not buy) and even fairly used sleep positioner (they did not buy)...all items my 6 mo old either did not like or rarely used. I was prepared for a low quote and reminded myself I would get as much or less if i sold this stuff in garage sale. After I got my check...it was $42.93. (Not too bad or so I thought.) BUT then I looked around and could not believe the prices they had for ratty, ugly and worn items! Stuff that looked TOO worn were almost as expensive as a regular store price! They are definitely making a profit off of us! I even looked around for some stuff and was appalled at the condition of most of the stuff and the prices! I didn't buy a thing. I will not be doing business with them anymore and will be having a huge garage sale next month and will get more I am sure for my nice stuff as I take better care of it. I am not trying to be snobby about it..I gave them a chance and even though the ladies were semi nice...I just felt like I was taken advantage of.

Its a disgrace especially the one in Carrollton, tx. They dont give you nealry what you paid for the item. I had a pair of practically new Polo Boots barely worn(original cost $70.00 ) they gave me $3.00. That is pitiful.

I think they ask too much for most of the items. You can find brand new items for just a bit more. (clothes/equipment) Garage sales are definitely more reasonable for used items. For example if a used bounce seat is $40 new, ouac prob will ask $30 for the same used item....???? Plus, they don't give a seller even close to what they will sell the items for. They are making HUGE profit off people desperate for cash these days! Example: they'll give you about $2.50 for a name brand pair of shoes and sell them for $10.50!! I refuse to do it! I'd rather GIVE my things away to someone who needs them, than to let them make such a HUGE profit from me. I think they take advantage of people who need a break whether in selling items for needed cash, or buying things used to save. THEY BUY TOO CHEAP AND SELL HIGH!!

This store, in my personal experiences, has not lived up to my expectations. My daughter and I went into the store with about 25 clothing items which WE had bought earlier for about $100 or more. Hours later, the store called us, so we drove all the way back there, only to find that they wanted about 13 of the items for only $17.50!

Once upon a child is a consignment store. They buy clothes from the public and pay you on the spot. I believe they give you 3% of what they will sell it for. So no waiting for an item to sell. If you take clothes, toys, furniture up before a new season more than likely they will buy everything. If you go in the middle of winter to sell winter clothes, they might be over stocked and picky on what they buiy from you.

For less, but it's not my favorite thrift store personally! I do think they have some nice things and if you look hard enough you can get some awesome deals on clothes and some toys. I do agree that the one in mesquite it's VERY hard to get them to buy your clothes so if you can I would just ebay them rather then even attempting to go there! And then what they want for some of them is just laughable personally! But if you are looking for a place that is cheaper then if you bought something brand new but still in great condition then I would recommend this store!

PROS: Mostly good items at a reasonable price for the most part.
CONS: Very picky on clothes they will buy from you and can be over priced

This shop located in the 35-hundred block of Town Crossing is a haven for parents looking to catch some great deals on slightly used children's clothing and furniture. Here, shoppers can find everything from new and used children clothing to furniture for the nursery such as cribs, changing tables and more. Customers are welcome to sell clothing and furniture their children have outgrown. Clothing for resale must be freshly laundered, and neatly organized.

I took several new and gently used clothes in for resale. These were all good items, just my kids would not wear them, rather too dressy or too scratchy. I was very disappointed that they would not accept half of the clothes. They had items on their racks that looked very worn, that I would not put on my children at all, but wouldn't take new things. I would not recommend selling itemsto this store.

This place has tons of great used brand name kids clothing, all excellent condition and generally at good prices. Besides finding steals of deals everytime I go in there, I'm also happy with their practice of purchasing my children's outgrown clothing. They are VERY picking about what items they will purchase from you, but they also give you top dollar for what they do buy.

This place is a favorite among several mothers I know.

I was not totally impressed with the prices. They had nice second hand children's clothes but the prices were very far from "new" retail prices and their new items were the same price, or higher than i would pay at babie r us.
