I know this place has been around a long time and my girlfriend for one use to love this place. Last night we decided to check it out and it was pretty much empty at 7pm, the place really lacks any kind of character, sort of a dump if you ask me, they were though pleasant enough. No alcohol, but you can BYOB, bummer for me since I was looking forward to some sake or a glass of wine or even a beer. We ordered the dumplings, hot n sour soup and green curry chicken. When our order for steamed dumplings came to our table my first thought was, what kind of sauce are these odd shaped dumplings submerged in? Then I took a bite and I thought, should I swallow this or force it down? My girlfriend had the same sentiment so I knew it wasn't just me. Sorry, but I didn't go any further, we cancelled the rest of our order, they made us pay the 4.18 for the dumplings we didn't eat and we left. My girlfriend said, oh well another old establishment in Austin that's gone way down hill.

Cons: Lacks appeal, bad food

The freindly folks at the Thai Kitchen on Wm Cannon catered my party and they really provided abundance!!! They added well over what I'd ordered, included several extra side dishes and it was delivered hot and fresh! This is a great spot to take out of town guests. Thai kitchen on Wm Cannon serves world class soups and entrees, made with fresh ingredients that allow for appreciation of the delicate as well as the strong flavors.

Pros: Authentic Food

Cons: none

I have to admit that the service is not the worlds greatest but as a native Thai I would have to say that this is the most austhentic Thai I have found in Austin. I have tried every other Thai restraunt in Austin and seriously laugh at the authenticity of others. I compare the other Thai restraunts to eating Tex Mex. Not real, but those who dont know better are clueless.

This is very authentic Thai food. Perhaps a little too authentic. Food are rated on the menu with # of peppers for amount of heat. Some are seriously hot. And they warn you. But the flavors are so exquisite. "Sweat with drip down you forehead HOT!" They have 3 locations. The one on William Cannon was the first. I haven't been there for a few years, but I recall the food to be ambrosial, but the service and ambience to be lacking. The one on Bee Caves Road is also very good, and the ambience lacking. And I don't like the menu not having a soup section. The soups are mixed in the pork, beef, seafood, and vegetarian sections. I am not too fond of the soups.

Being a vegetarian, I had plenty of choices in this Thai restuarant. I have tried many of their dishes. The coconut milk soup with the lemongrass and the mussamun tofu are probably my favs. The only bad part is they don't serve brown rice. The ambience isn't very pleasing, so I usually take it to go!
