So its Saturday night and baby's got to dance. We head out to Rudy's Salsa night and boy does it surprise.

Even though we arrived close to midnight the dancing hadn't even started yet. As it looked like the tradition was to start with food, we ordered. For me, the vegetarian, that consisted of bread and coleslaw, not very good for my snake hips.

We soon got back to our feet and where first on the dance floor - starting with the Cha-cha-ch, merengue and then finally a conga line round the whole BBQ. People where clapping, wooping and cheering us on. I've never been so welcomed in my life.

Go do Rudy's for the best Cuban Salsa around!

Pros: The BBQ Sauce, Creamed Corn is Fantastic, Many Locations

Cons: The Brisket Is Not That Good

        .

Ok, for a place connected to gas stations - heck anywhere - this is just really good food.
You walk in past the convenience store and into a long line where you pick up drinks and any cold side dished (I highly recoemmend the banana pudding).
When you go to the counter make sure to tell them it is your first time in. Trust me.
They offer the standard Texas meats and cut them to order and put them in their fanct plates and platter (wax paper and a milk crate). The juicy brisket and lean brisket are great, turkey can be dry but when it isn't it is fantastic. They also offer one of the better sausages in town (for some reason most places oversmoke their links, gross). Not a fan of the prime rib meat, skip that one. The creamed corn is so good you want to slapp your momma for what she used to serve. They'll eye you and toss 1/2 a loaf of white bread in there too(more if you ask).
You take your crate to a picnic bench where paper towels and BBQ sauce to make sanwhiches or eat how you like. The sauce is excellent. Honestly it is my favorite in Austin - now if I can only sneak some into Salt Lick...that would be perfect). Overall the meat is cooked pretty good (not the best in town but very good) but the sauce and side are solid and make for agreat meal.
Clean up after yourself and then fill the tank up.
One of my favorite places in Austin, you can't go wrong.

There are a few really good BBQ restaurants in Austin and Rudy's is always on everybody's short list.

They have great food, consistantly friendly, and their community service is stellar.

They have always been willing to jump in whenever called upon to help out. And let's face it, you can call them at the last minute and be assured that they can handle any food emergency.

A special kudos to Mitch Ellengold from their promotions department. A man with a heart as big as Texas.

And anyone who has never had their world-famous barbeque sauce cannot call themselves a true Texan.

Get the best BBQ in town now! It's well worth it.

Try the turkey and pork loin. The beans and banana pudding are staples there too. I love the fast paced wait staff at the counter. It's best to drop in at 11:30 or after 1:30 if you want to get in and out in a short time.

I just moved to Texas from Michigan about a year ago and ever since I got here I have been on this quest for great BBQ. I have been to a few places that havent quite met my expectations. And the other day when I made the random decision to go here for lunch I didnt really wnat to get my hopes up. So to my surprise when I got to the counter the guys were so friendly and asked if it was my first time. I went through the whole first-timer experience with trying samples and making a great meal decision. Me and my boyfriend were so impression with the quality of customer service that I "almost" wanted to leave w/ the food and write a blog about it right then. Thank you so much for restoring my faith in Southern charm and good ol' fashion BBQ.

Rudy's has the best brisket that I have tasted. Get the extra moist rather than the extra lean for more flavor. The Jalepeno sausage is great. The corn chowder is different an very good.
The best part was not having to sit down and wait for your food. You just order and pick it up all at the same time.

Heavenly! This is by far the best BBQ you will ever eat. It's peppered, falls apart because it is so tender and the sauce is to die for. Brisket, Pork, Turkey or Ribs whatever floats your boat, they've got it. I am particularly found of the Brisket... mmm, mmm, good. Don't stop there, they have some of the best creamed corn you will ever eat, yes creamed corn. Try to save room for the banana pudding it is scrumptous!

I only found Rudy's about a year ago after my brother dragged me in there becuas ehe thought it had the best sausage he'd ever eaten. I hate to say it, but he was right!!! I can't go through Austin now without stopping for sausage, or brisket, or ribs, or just a pint of beans or cream corn! Not only are the employees super friendly and always cheerful, they know how to move a line and the people to the food. I also love the concept of buying by the slice or by the pound so if you only want a sandwhich you only have to pay for a sandwhich.

Big disappointment. I was soo excited to try bbq at Texas and I thought I would love it. Hated it here. The cashier guy was kinda rude...I wouldn't have cared if the food was good but it was the complete opposite. The brisket was tasteless, the bbq sauce was cold and gross, the potato salad needs salt, and the hot link was overcooked. Pleeeese if you are from out of town, do not come here.

I had dinner at their Round Rock location. Overall it was OK, but their BBQ has way too much pepper in it for me, and their sauce was spicy, too. My mouth was on fire afterwards. If you like peppery stuff, then go for it. If not, go to County Line BBQ in Austin.

Rudy's is my favorite barbeque in Austin. Before I moved to Austin and tried Rudy's, I honestly thought I hated barbeque. I have had bad barbeque at so many places that Rudy's was a very pleasant surprise.

Here are the must tries: The EXTRA moist brisket (amazing!!!) and the sausage is really good as well. I also like the smoked turkey if I'm trying to eat healthy. Their sweet iced tea (hey, it is Texas) is perfect just as is too.

The only bar-b-q that is better is Elgin barbeque. But I still would take Rudy's brisket!

Rudy's would be a good place to go, but with one exception-- the prices. The food is OK, but $10/lb for brisket? And $13 for rack of ribs? Add 2 sides orders to it (everything is ala carte) and you'll be spending as much as you would at Tony Roma's, but you're eating at a gas station!! I just don't get it. At least at Tony Roma's you get better side orders and fresh-baked bread. At Rudy's, they throw you some cheap white bread. I'll never understand people who spend money at this place. If you want good, cheap BBQ, go to Bill Miller's.

Anyone who loves BBQ will love Rudy's. Their service is quick and friendly. The food is great!!! It's not your typical BBQ. The atmosphere is good. Their menu is simple, but still offers a good variety (if that makes sense.) I'll take Rudy's over any kind of food any time. It hits the spot after a long run too. :) Did I mention it's inexpensive?

For commercial BBQ Rudy's is ok, but it is not in the same class with your good ole' Texas BBQ.

Pros: Ribs pretty good, fun enviornment, good sauce

Cons: Brisket is tasteless, sausage is dry, expensive for BBQ

I've tried alot of barbeque, to me Rudy's is the best around. Everything from the brisket, to chicken, to baby back ribs are excellent. The sauce is unbeatable.

Having lived in San Antonio for almost 2 years, I miss Rudy's a ton. Only visited the Austin location once, but liked the fact that I could order Brisket, extra moist! I HATE turkey, but LOVE Rudy's turkey. I've lost 10 lbs since leaving Tx. Probably because I don't eat at Rudy's several times a week! The only downside to Rudy's for me is I personally do not like the selection of side items. I'd love to be able to get fries, or onion rings. I have taken clients from all over the country and all over the world to Rudy's. When they return to SA the first thing they want to do is visit Rudy's. Having grown up and spent most of my life in NY, the idea of a BBQ/Convenience store/filling station was very foreign to me! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Consistently great meat at a reasonable price. The turkey breast is the best in town, very moist and flavorful. The barbecue sauce is spicy which adds zest to the whole eating experience. Good choice of sides.

Rudy's barbecue was the absolute best I have ever had! Seriously! The meat was flavorful and tender, seasoned just right. The barbecue "sause" served with the meat (I got turkey) is spicy and tangy-just right. My husband and I bought a huge bottle and now everything we cook on the grill gets "saused." The cole slaw is the perfect-not too much mayo-accompaniment with any meat. The lines were long but moved fast. The new potatoes are drenched in butter and fabulous. Very laid back and casual. Picnic tables line both the inside and outside patio. Plenty of parking even when packed. We have eaten at all three Austin/Round Rock locations and love them all. We now eat at Rudy's at least once a week if not more. We haven't yet tried the breakfast tacos but hear they too are awesome.

I think this place is the most over-rated place in Austin. The sauce STINKS! I love spicey foods, but what's up with having a sauce where the only thing you can taste is HOT. THere's heat, but no flavor. Even the reasonable prices can't make me eat here.

When I moved to Austin last year, I fell in love with rudy's. They have the best bbq sauce and excellent briskett among other great sides(beans and cream corn is great). I would definately recommend this place!!!

Rudy's is probably one of the best BBQ places in Austin. Service is always fast and friendly. It's a great place for groups or kids, and all of the food has a kick to it. People who like sausage should get the jalapeno...it's spicy and goes well with the BBQ sauce. Other good things to try....the extra moist/lean brisket , any of their ribs, and creamed corn. The only downside...like all other BBQ places, it can sometimes seem overpriced.
