I would give less than one star if possible.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE,

School is a mess and accidents waiting to happen.Has gone down in recent years and as a result - and MANY incident, have pulled my child.

*Teacher to student ratio always at the max or above
*Staff not trained
*Constant turnover - no continuity for children needing a routine
*Lack of communication to parent
*Lack of follow through on complaints
*No clear and concise pickup or drop off
*Minimum supervision of students during pick up and drop off. Have witnessed up to 30 students in one class all under the age of 5 - in a morning drop off with ONE TEACHER in class who has been there less than 3 months
*Staff often thrown in with minimal to no training resulting in deer in the headlights look when you ask questions
*Lack of following medical mandated state requirements of medical note, due to a child being contagious but being allowed back into a classroom
*Bullying not addressed

Do yourself a favor and drive vy -don't stop. This place is a utter disaster waiting to happen. They DO NOT take anything serious but making money. Which they do not pay the teachers. They just profit. Look further into other places and do your research and do not end up like me, having to take my child to work until I can find suitable daycare.

This "school" is not worth the money. They treat the teachers and staff like dirt. The children are $ to the owner. The director (I REFUSE to call her a "principal") is rude and plays favorites. They get "best in Austin" because they bribe the staff and parents by offering discounts and cash to vote.

This school is amazing! I wish that I could go here myself.
When I come in the door, I can always tell that my daughter will be happy because she LOVES to eat and the chef Ms Kim always has something yummy cooking.
The administrators are wonderful women, Stephanie and Amie are doing a great job. There have been a few changes in the office area, but I feel they are for the best. Amie is much more approachable than Laura was and I like the fact that Stephanie was promoted from being a teacher to the assistant director.
My daughter is 3 and has been struggling with several personal issues. Her teacher Ms. Ashley has been patient and extremely kind.
If you are looking for the BEST pre-school for your child, look no further than Stepping Stone on Brodie Ln. You won't be disappointed.

I recently toured this location and I must confess, I LOVED it! I am expecting my first child and am a little nervous about putting her into a daycare center as an infant. The staff seems very friendly and helpful, showing me both the infant rooms and also showing me areas she will move into as she grows.
The director, Laura is very knowledgeable and concerned with making me comfortable. The cook came out of her VERY clean kitchen to say hello (& offer my husband a cup of coffee) and the teachers all seem very happy to be there. I didn't notice any "diaper smell" like I did at other centers, it smelled CLEAN.

They have a neat white board, called the HATCH that I saw a classroom full of 3 yr olds using. They also have a "fitness center" and language immersion lab, so the children can learn Spanish.

I feel this is a GREAT center and I will definitely enroll my daughter when I have to return to work.

I felt it was extremely necessary to write this review. My son has been enrolled at the Stepping Stone 14 location since he was 12 months old, and he is now 20 month's. When we first enrolled him we were very pleased wtih the Facility and the wonderful teachers looking after him. Miss Audi is Great!!!!!

After a few months the school in my opinion took a major change for the worse. I had even gotten to the point of dreading dropping him off there every day, and I was even looking for a new facility to take him to. The kids were being shuffled around to dirrerent rooms because there was a shortage of teachers, and the Teachers were very young and unexperienced.

As my Husband and myself both have full time jobs we had to do what we had to for the time being. So as time passed and we weathered the storm, and Iam so happy we did because we got a new principal that came in, Laura who has been there a few months now. She is been just what that school needed. She has implemented many positive changes and I am so happy we have her!!

Every Friday they have Mr. Will that comes in and plays his guitar and sings for the kids, they have police officers, and fire fighters that come in to do presentations and talks for the kids, they also have Miss Kimberley who prepares their meals every day and does an amazing job, but most of all there is no more shuffling the kids to different rooms. The Teacher are older and more mature, and my son has the same Teacher's every day! I feel so good knowing that my son is in good hands when I drop him off. He is in the 18-24 mth age group and his Teacher is Miss Jessica, and she is just AWESOME :) I get reports from her daily on what he did that day etc. Thank you so much for everything!!!

Our children are our most precious gifts in life we have, and I am so thankful that my son is surrounded by pepople who care for him and show him so much love when us parents are working.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Stepping Stone School 14 is awesome! My 4 year old has been there since he was about 2 and my youngest who is 2 started going in April. They both love all of their teachers and love the environment!! I know there has been issues in the past with high turnover but many daycares go through that. The administrator and staff handled the transitions very well as did my children. My children have been learning so much. Stepping Stone School 14 was definitely a good choice for my family!

We had prior experience with Stepping Stone in Pflugerville with our son (who is now 7), and he was very happy there. His teacher left halfway through the year, but his new teacher was just as wonderful as the one who left. Our daughter (age 3) is now at Stepping Stone 14 and is very happy. When she gets to school, her friends surround her and hug her, and her teacher greets her with open arms. Her teacher did leave halfway through the year last year, but once again, she was replaced with an equally wonderful teacher and our daughter bonded with her quickly. All of the staff at Stepping Stone knows our daughter's name and they talk to her in the hall, saying hello and goodbye, and she knows their names as well.... all contributing to her feeling loved, safe, and happy at Stepping Stone. Now that she has been there for 2 years, this summer when she was at home with me (I'm a teacher so I pull my daughter out from Stepping Stone during the summer) she has been begging me to take her to school because she misses it dearly. Even after reading the not so great reviews of her school on this website, nothing can change my mind about Stepping Stone when I see my daughter so wonderfully happy every day while she is there. I hope that parents will make an informed decision about daycare themselves firsthand, rather than making a decision based completely on reviews. We love Stepping Stone as parents and plan to keep our youngest there for another 2 years until she is ready to go to kindergarten.

this review is for stepping stone 18 , i had my child there in the infant classroom, i can tell you that my child went through 3 new teachers and 2 directors! i am appaled at what kind of school i had my child in. one of my childs teachers was so great, whom was there for a long time, due to private issues had to leave along with a few other teachers. which caused an up roar with some of my fellow parent friends. we all decided that it was in our childrens best intrests to find further daycare experiences. as a parent i warn all parents who love there children and want the best for them not to take there precious babies to this school or any stepping stone schools.

My daughter attended SS XIV from May 08 until Aug 09. While she was in the infant room and the up to 18-mth room, everything went relatively well. We had nothing but a great experience with the infant room. The teacher there has been there for a while and she runs a tight ship. When my daughter transitioned to the 18-mth room, she went through 4 teachers in two months. It wasn't good for her as she is a creature of routine. The teacher that she finally settled with was exceptional, but then she got moved up to the next room and the teacher chaos started over. My child was not receiving any sort of education, and like several of the other parents with complaints, I echo the sentiments of the children being treated like herds of cattle. The administration leaves much to be desired also. My daughter came home several times with bruises, bites or scratches that were not reported. We moved our daughter to a new daycare in August and the change in her has been amazing.

I recommend this place for infant care, but once its time to start a learning program, I would look elsewhere.

I've worked for Stepping Stone before. I can see the good and bad points in their organization.

If your child is in a class with a regular teacher, It's gonna be a great experience, there are activities going on all the time. The intention is definitely for them to learn and be guided in the right way. However, if your child's teacher is overwhelmed and quits, then your kid will have substitutes for a number of weeks. This is never good for a child's development. I totally understand parent's frustrations with this, I would be too.

Also, the quality of care seems to vary quite a bit from school to school, so do your research and visit a few locations before deciding. A facility with stable staff is probably the one you want, that means that the administration is treating everyone right and the teachers are less likely to bail.

I am a previous employee of Stepping Stone School. I would never recommend this school to anyone. They have a very high turnover rate and are always understaffed. They shuffle the children around from class to class like a bunch of cattle, just to be able to send employees home and not have to pay them.

I would like to officially rave about my daughters teachers at Stepping Stone School 14. My daughter has been at this school since she was 2 years old. My daughter is 4 years old now. We will be visiting Russia for 4 months and be leaving this school in the next two weeks. I have put her the waitlist for when we return. I wouldn't want her anywhere else! All of the teachers are great and I have learned that what matters most is that my daughter loves this place.

I agree with the review below. Multiple (no less then five) teachers for my children, and an administration that is in no way shape or form professional or helpful. Then there's the daily search for my kids at pick-up time since they're never in the same room twice, sending them home during the winter with out their jackets (multiple occasions & never to be found again), and poor communication as to what supplies they need. To top it off the administrator Miss Janette... unhelpful, unresponsive, and blames her staff for "attitude problems". I'm guessing if you burn through teachers at a rate of one per month the "attitude problem" isn't with the staff.Do NOT BRING YOUR CHILDREN to this establishment.

I think the positive reviews are from employees of Stepping Stone because there is no way a parent who is paying attention could possibly endorse this place!

My son has been going to Stepping Stone on Brodie since January 09 (It's now May 09 and his last month) and has so far been through three teachers. He gets his fourth today. Turnover here is incredibly high. When there is no "teacher" there are college kids watching your children. They have absolutely no control or structure. I have seen them on their cell phones more times than I care to admit.

Security at this place is a joke to say the least. ANYONE can walk into this place and take your kid. It's that easy. No one is at the front desk, or the front area for that matter. If someone happens to notice you, they won't ask who you are or what you're doing there. Pretty scary.

There is no curriculum and the kids don't learn anything. There are too many kids per "teacher" and the teachers don't care. I've spoken to the director of the school and she could care less. I have NEVER seen the kids doing anything except play with each other and I've dropped in at several different times of the day.

I am so thankful that this is his last month there. For the sake of your children, do NOT take them here.

Perhaps various locations have completely different experiences, but I am not thrilled about ours. It is not terrible care, but definately not what we were told it would be. There is no structure, no academic anything, and during homework time it is hard to hear yourself think because of the noise from the kids not doing homework. It is so far been a babysitting service. They are great babysitters and my daughter likes them, but it IS NOT what we were told it was AT ALL. I am truly disappointed. As for the comments I have read on their discipline....there is a girl a little older than my daughter who gets to the front of the line by punching the backs of the girls in front of her. This should never happen after an adult knows about it. Unfortunately it still does. Only saving grace is she is not a regular, not the employees.

My family (and 4 children) have been a part of Stepping Stone Schools for 11 years and I credit them for the amazing academic success and social confidence of my older children; now 16 and 12. When I moved to Austin from Dallas, 11 years ago, I was faced with finding child care for my 4 year old and 1 year old. I was terrified at the thought of leaving them with strangers. I was referred to the Wells Branch location by a friend and was quickly impressed with the facility, the director and the child/teacher interactions I observed. (I had searched many centers before making my decision). I am so thankful each day for making the right decision in choosing Stepping Stone School for my children. After spending the 1 year in their pre-k program, my son, who had not been in preschool before, was completely ready for kindergarten. What I love about Stepping Stone is that they focus equally on academics and social skills. My daughter was also well prepared - even more so, having spent 4 years in the preschool program at Stepping Stone School. They both grew up 'through the ranks' at Stepping Stone School having spent their after school time at the McNeil location. I can't say enough about how impressed I was with my children's after school experience! Time was made daily for my children to not only complete their homework, but they were given guidance and help when needed - now what more can a busy working parent ask for? and...they have stages in their classrooms where children can perform plays, give speeches etc...my daughter loved it! Flash forward to current, I have my two younger children, 3 and 2 years old also attending Stepping Stone School. Due to unique circumstances, they attend the Shoal Creek and Bowling Green location. I would drive out of my way to take my children to these two locations, and in fact I do! My 3 year old's teacher has 30+ years experience in the field, she's amazing - infact all of the teachers I've had the pleasure of knowing through the years are wonderful and well trained. My 3 year old can count in spanish, knows 10 different signs and can spell and (nearly) write his name; all becasue of Stepping Stone School. Most importantly I can leave my children in a place where I can feel good about going off to work each day and know they are loved as I would love them!

I read all of the reviews and saw that this school got some good remarks. It didn't take long before I realized that this was a disorganized unfriendly school. My son only attended the after school program and I did not think much about it because he was only there a few hours. He started complaining that the kids were mean and called names. I also had a teacher tell me the kids are mean to each other. I would expect a loving caring environment for my child especially when I am paying for it. I brought this to the directors attention and all she said was my son instigated it. Right or wrong, he is the child and she is supposed to be a professional. I decided to pull him out when I witnessed the director being verbally aggressive and rude to him. This place is okay if you don't expect more than a neighborhood play yard with no structure or discipline.

My experience at Stepping Stone School has been awesome. My 3 year old son, and now 6 week old baby attend the location on Broodie Lane (XIV). My son's teacher and I have a strong relationship and she loves to update me on the activities he participated in each day. The infant teacher has been with Stepping Stone for over 4 years and she is incredible. Her room is immaculate and the babies are always calm and entertained. I recommend taking your children to Stepping Stone because their teachers are great and the school is gorgeous.

I have read some of the other comments on this site about the south and north locations of Stepping Stone School, and I HOPE that parents needing to make the seriously difficult decision of sending your children to someone else, do NOT let a few negative comments spoil what Stepping Stone School DOES provide. Frankly, at first I was shocked at some of the things I've read on this site...and secretly second-guessed my decision to have my children at Stepping Stone. But it didn't take me long to realize that these [obviously isolated] incidents (which seem a bit extreme) are not the experiences I, my children, or other parents that I've talked to have had. I have two children (5yrs and 15mos), and have been with Stepping Stone for over 4 years. I was VERY reluctant and critical of letting my only child (at 13 months) go anywhere. I would pop in unexpected, drill the teachers and administrators with questions, and watch the other classrooms as well. To see your child (who used to cling and cry when I left him) run with open arms to the teachers and administrators (who were waiting to pick him up and hug him), is something you do not find just anywhere. Now THAT is genuine care. When we moved and had to transfer him to another location I was very nervous (we went from a central location to the north location). How could I take him away from these people he loves? Little did I know that he would find more loving teachers and administrators at that location also! Being involved with many community functions gives me the chance to hear about what others have experienced both at Stepping Stone Schools and other childcare centers. I constantly find myself relieved with our decision to send our children to Stepping Stone. Now my daughter also attends, and has been there since she was 9 week old! With my son starting kindergarten this year, a giant new chapter, he is so much more confident and ready...thanks to the constant preparation and focus he has received from the pre-k teachers at Stepping Stone. I've even heard kindergarten teachers say that they can tell which children come from Stepping Stone School's pre-k program (because they are so ready). I just HAD to write this and let others know that this is the experience that I've had at more than one location...and many others have had that I've talked to from other locations. It really is THE BEST!

We've been with Stepping Stone for almost 6 years now. Our first 4 were great, but that was at the McNeill location. We've since moved south and enrolled at the Brodie location for the before and after school program. Things started great but quickly went downhill when we found out that our daughter had been late to school 4 times within the first two months. We made several requests to correct this, which they did, only 3 months later. By this time we'd stopped using their before school service. I'd say the after school programs are fine except my daughter has gone through 4 teachers in 18 months. All have quit because of management at that location. Consequently, their programs have been thrown off-kilter and instead of organized activities the kids basically do what they want. She's never in the same room when I come to pick her up and I've yet to have learn of any positive activity they used to provide. There have also been incidents of violence between the director and a parent, and I've seen several incidents involving both parents and kids where staff should have stepped in to control. Overall, these situations create a bad environment for our daughter. If there were openings at other facilities we'd have pulled her long ago.

Let me start by saying that my child was at a location up north and NOT the Brodie location. That being said I have dealt w/ the administrative office and can't say they helped.
I have been told by Stepping Stone that they have no formal policy on peer-to-peer violence in it facilities, that they've "never really needed one" WELL... My child has been bitten, punched, pinched. I have been, essentially, chastised for complaining and suggesting that I might need to consult the regulatory board or other authorities about these matters. But I feel a desperate need to bring our family's experience to light so that no one else's child is punched, bitten, poked or touched in any other inappropriate way (all of these have happened to MY child) in Stepping Stone's care.

Please don't use them!!! Please!!! They say they want to,
"Create a truly warm and friendly environment where you and your child will be welcomed and cared for, providing outstanding service above all others!" but your child safety and well being will be in peril!

I absolutely love Stepping Stone School XIV. Everyone is very friendly and my child is learning so much. We were currently enrolled at a center- where even a greeting was too much! My child is enrolled in the 18-24 month classroom with Miss Claudia and is ver happy-it's very evident! Most days she refuses to go home! Peace of mind for me is so important when we live so many busy days. The envirnment is CLEAN, smells good and best of all my child is loved! I challenge all parents to find the best possible care out there, I discovered this at the Brodie site! Visit the center and i guarantee you will be impressed!

My daughter and son both attended the Stepping Stone on Brodie for about 9 months. When my daughter moved up when she turned 18 months I was did not get to see the teacher because she got there in the morning after I would drop off my daughter off and would leave before I was able to pick her up. That I understood because of her schedule, but I called and introduced myself and called her a couple of times a week. I decided to stop in on my daughter and just see how things were going and I did this on 3 difference occasions and felt uncomfortable with what I saw. Her tone, her attitude towards these babies, like she just didn't want to be there. On the last time I popped in it was nap time and I stood outside the door and just watched the teacher interact w/the children. She was yelling at a child to lay down, a bit mean I might add. Then I saw her go across the room and lay the child down and start patting another child's back. As she did this the other child got up and she put her knee on the back of the child who's back she was patting and reached over to the other child. I walked in and asked her if there was problem, but she didn't hear me. This whole time she didn't know I was there until after I started closing the door, she then saw me. I reported this to the director and was very disappointed by the way it was handled. She never said this is not something that is tolerated in any way, but instead was defender the teacher's actions by saying she didn't really put her knee on the babies back that hard, but just reached over her, it may have looked like it, but her knee bearly touched the baby's back. To say the least I pulled my kids out. That was the breaking point for me, before that happened we dealt with little boys in my son's class (the school age) with boys grabbing each others privates, and that was not ever fully dealt with. We also dealt with my daughter coming home with marker all over her body, stomach, legs, arms, her head and her cloths and it was easy to see that it was even attempted to get it off her and when I told one of the ladies up front and showed her all the markers she told me to bring her in cloths that she "could" get dirty. I wasn't worried about her cloths, but instead worried that the teacher left for the day and didn't care to even try to clean her up after allowing her to do this to her entire body. It was not a good experience for us and will not go back.

This is my daughters second year in their summer program. They have a lot of activities and field trips planned each week with different themes. They also have their own pool so for a little extra they can take swimming lessons and swim three times a week.

Their prices are a lot better than some of the other centers in the area.

Cons - higher turnover rate in school age room

PROS: On site swimming pool & instructor
CONS: High turnover in school age room.

I just had to share with Austin my opinion of Stepping Stone School on Brodie Lane. This is the absolute BEST pre-school I have ever been in.
The school is clean, the children are happy and the staff is VERY friendly.

I have experienced separation anxiety from my son. HE is fine, but his first day, I certainly wasn't. The cook, ms Kimberley, made sure I had a business card with his class name on it, so I could call throughout the day to check on him.

The staff really loves the children in their care. Ms. Laura is a wonderful director and Ms. Sunny certainly lives up to her name.

He has only been in school for a short time and already he smiles when I tell him its time to go there. He is excited to see his new friends and loves to sing the songs he is learning.

This school is the greatest thing since sliced bread as far as I and my family are concerned. As long as there are people like Ms Sunny, Ms Kimberley and Ms Laura there, my son will be happy. And so will I.

I recently toured the Stepping Stone location on Brodie Ln in south Austin. I must say, I was HIGHLY impressed. The staff is friendly and courteous.

I was met at the door by the cook, who greeted me with a smile and offered me a cup of coffee.

The director, Laura, was most helpful and knowledgeable about early childhood.

The entire school was clean and well cared for. I have been to centers that smelled of dirty diapers and this one smelled CLEAN.

The children were engaged in lots of activities and seemed very happy.

They have a great playground and lots to recommend them.

I just wanted to tell Austin how much I LOVE this center. The staff is friendly, the center is clean and my children are HAPPY!!

I walked in the door to tour the center and was greeted by the chef, Ms Kimberly. She was friendly and got down to speak to my 4 yr old. My daughter, who is VERY shy, actually smiled and told her her name. I was shocked! I would have enrolled based on her alone.

I toured the facility and immediately fell in love. I really like the Hatch and fitness center.

Their principal Mrs Laura is quite nice. I felt comfortable in this center, unlike some others I have seen.

I will DEFINITELY be recommending this center to ALL my friends and family in the Austin area.

I know the two-year old class next to my sons has been really unstable, so I am glad we have not had such a terrible/scary experience! My sons (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love coming to school. They chant their teachers names in the car on the way there and never want to leave.

The two year old teacher is really helpful with potty training (she even has a peepee dance! My son does it at home) and with table manners.

The four year old class has been a wonderful experience for the whole family. My son is learning so much and always has art or some kind of activity to bring home.

As far as the big screen goes, I don't know what the two year old gets from it, but when I came to pick the kids up yesterday the four year old class was playing a game making patterns with letters, which I thought was pretty cool.

As far as cons go, there is alot of inconsistency in the two year old room, and we often have to search for jackets, which seems like a prettty basic thing the teachers should know how to keep up with.

Overall- the whole family loves it!

I couldn't be happier with the Pre K program this school has to offer. My child is being introduced to a new innovative technology called the Hatch system. I see toddlers learning on this system as well. I feel there is so much learning taking place in this SCHOOL. The teachers all know my child by name. I feel relieved that my child is having fun and likes being there each day I drop him off. I believe this school is the best in Austin by far.

****NOTE 12/20/10** Spoke to director Jenicca (who I love so much more than Jeanette) She said that the teacher in question was let go. Once again, I will be keeping my child there - Hopefully this is resolved and won't happen again. ****

This daycare is awful, my daughter (2.5 yrs old) has been going there for over a yr and I have tried to take her out several times. She has a new teacher about every month sometimes sooner...I say "tried" to take her out because while I was researching for a new daycare a better teacher would come in. Her current teacher has never done this kind of job before is frustrated and dosen't know structure. My daughter has been acting out over the last week, and there is chaos in the room when I pick her up. I have seen the teacher grab a kid by the arm and yell at them. I never get incident reports when shes hurt. She has also been coming home in someone elses diapers (cheeper than the one I buy specifically for her)( they they don't help much with potty training) The ONLY plus to this place is the reasonable rate, but I would gladly pay more to know my child is safe and in a loving enviornment.

I am very surprised to hear that each year Stepping Stones in ranked "best daycare" in Austin. Really?
I can only speculate it is because they provide a small
kick back off your tuition if you print your review and turn it in when the Austin Readers Poll comes out.

I transferred to this facility because of its location and hours this past summer, big mistake. My child was in one of their toddler rooms. I realize that can be a difficult group so I tried to stay open minded. Right away it got off to a bad start when on the first day I walked my toddler out to the playground where the kids were gathered only to find 2 little ones in a corner with one little boy saying "Look at my pee pee" The teachers were completely oblivious to their location and obviously their behavior. I found them out of ratio often...I'm talking 21 kids to one person on one particular morning! Of coarse, the director tried to smooth things out and I felt ok with her concern but the problem continued and I eventually threatened to call the State and report them if I continued to see it. Upon
picking up my toddler in the late afternoon, I would usually find them outside. Most of the toddlers gathered at the door crying for their parents. I imagine
pick up time is difficult when your not the one being picked up so I can empathize with the reaction. I suggested that perhaps they should try a game or activity to keep the kids involved until their parents came. It was heart breaking to see all those tots gathered by the door in hopes that their parent would soon arrive.

The place is dirty. They still have carpet in the rooms which is completely unsanitary when your talking toddlers and all the mess they make. One morning the room reeked of vomit! The teacher informed me a child had vomited on the carpet the day before. I asked where and she pointed to the area. GROSS! It still had evidence of the vomit. I called the director inside and she claims it was cleaned with disinfectant spray. I pointed out the paper
towel fragments that were still there and that someone did not even bother to vacuum. I suggested it be steam cleaned and by the end of the day, it was. Seriously, if still stinks that bad the next day obviously the vomit is still in carpet. This was right around all the H1N1 stuff so I was particularly bothered by their lack of concern to create a healthy environment. Most of the teachers were very nice. They are obviously overworked and doubt they get the breaks they need. A few (not all) seemed to care less about kids and feel confidently they just need the paycheck. My first born was at another Stepping Stone facility on Riverside and it seemed fine.
She was there for 3 years. Again, for older kids I am sure its fine but for the toddler group....run!

towel fragments that were still there and that someone did not even bother to vacuum.

Pros: Hours, schedule, hot lunch

Cons: Dirty, overcrowded, chaotic, unhappy tots!

I recently toured this school during open house...and then went back for a second tour at a later time-unannounced! The minute I walked in the door i felt comfortable and knew this was the place to be!! My child has been there for two weeks and loves to go to school. My son speaks very little english and i thought this was going to be very tough. The people at Stepping Stone have made this transition into school a wonderful experience!! I thank these individuals for having patience with my family and for providing great care.

I have worked at Stepping Stone School for over a year now and I think it is a great place to work. The school provides a great enviroment for children to learn and play. It is a privelege to work here with a great team of teachers and leaders. The training and staff development for teachers here is extraordinary! It focuses on building a strong partnership between parents and teachers. Teaching these great children is such an honor and they love being here. I have parents tell me everyday how much the kids want to come to school! They talk about coming to school on days off and on the weekends! Parents tell me how proud they are as to how much progress their child have made since joining our program. They also tell me how they believe thier children are ready for kindergarden both socially and academically. I take pride in this school and am happy be part of this team!!

Pros: Caring Teachers and Administrators/Curriculum/Enhancements

Cons: none

My children have been at Stepping Stone since the Brodie site opened. We have been very happy with the care and feel fortunate to be there. My children attend afterschool care at the Brodie site and are currently attending Summer camp. It is evident that the teachers love children and on my days off my children don't want to miss out-so I have to take them to camp!. Hats off to this great school and the people who work there!

Pros: educated staff & administrators

Cons: need more shade on playyards, no more pool

.

I witnessed my son's teacher throw a sippy cup across the room, yell at the children and forcefully get them to sit at the table and lay down. I couldn't believe she actually acted this way in front of me and it made me wonder what she did when I wasn't there. The director was apologetic and spoke with the teacher, but I still did not feel comfortable leaving him there.

After reading the reviews posted I must disagree with this being a bad daycare. I have a son who is ADHD he is in the afterschool program. My son has been there for a little over a year and yes we have had our disagreements and misunderstanding but the staff has always handled the situations in a caring and professional manner. They have worked closely with myself and the other parents to guarntee a safe environment for all involved. For those parents concerned with the turnaround rate of the staff take some time to talk to the teachers then you would know that they were students and either found higher paying jobs in a badly hurting economy or they were graduating and went into there field of study which is what I have found to be the case in most, or either due to transportation issues since there is no bus route located nearby. My son has been through several daycares in the south austin area and this daycare as bent over backwards to accommendate myself, my son and all concerned. Whenever there has been an issue they have been more than professional about handling the situation and quickly getting it resolve to ensure the safety of my son and the other children left in there care. I also want to add that I am a high school teacher and through personal experience places like this will always have a high turn around there will be things that you as a parent don't like but remember these people wouldn't do this job if they did have our childrens best interest at heart. Don't let others experiences be the sole reason for not considering such a great daycare, it won't hurt the daycare but your child will miss out on one of the best experiences of there lives. If you want your child to be in a loving and caring environment check out Stepping Stone 14 at 9405 Brodie Lane, Austinl,TX 78748. The staff here is amazing. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!

Pros: Place where a child can grow socially

Cons: no lunches provided to after schoolers during summer but I still love this daycare

I was somewhat shocked as I read these reviews! My child has been enrolled in this school for a total of 3 years- since pre-k then went into the afterschool classes and she loves it there. My child has a close relationship with all her teachers and even the administrators. I feel as though administrators have a close relationship with all children in the program -seldom will you find them not in classrooms or not busy tending to the needs of the school/children. If you are looking for a program where your child fits in and most of all feels loved visit this program. My child wants to attend Stepping Stone 14 all the time-especially on her days off from her elementry school! If you want to see a great school visit the center and see first hand! I promise you will find it to be one of the best! As a single parent it's nice to know that she is cared for well and that she is around people that will help her learn and grow!

Stepping Stone School is great! My son loves going there everyday, and I have built a strong relationship with his teacher. The environment is clean and professional, unlike other childcare centers I have had him attend. I trust that my child is safe! He brings home art projects and proof that he is learning every week. If you are wondering where to enroll your child, you should tour a Stepping Stone. You will be blown away with what it offers! Comparing diffferent childcares, Stepping Stone is one of the least expensive!

We recently moved to Austin and after studying and visiting various children's centers, settled on Stepping Stone on Brodie Lane for our young child. Our initial positive impressions grew less positive as the weeks went by until we decided after several months that for our child's mental, emotional and physical well-being, it was best to leave the school.

Most of our visits to the school were unannounced because we wanted to see how our child was adapting. We found that 4 out of 10 times, the ratio of students to teachers (adults) present in the room was over the Texas state law limit. Children were seldom in a controlled situation (as in all participating in circle time) as many were loud and extremely physical. Our child came home upset many times because of another's physical behavior (hitting, kicking, slapping, even spitting). We always asked our child what interesting thing had been learned or observed or done and there was rarely a positive answer. Additionally, our child was sometimes not in the scheduled room but in another.

We admire our child's teacher's ability to withstand not just the detrimental policy of not properly disciplining disruptive children (the Stepping Stone policy dictates 'redirection' though as any parent and educator knows, this is sometimes insufficient and/or ineffective for certain children) but also for not receiving the professional support she so obviously needs. We also admire her for staying positive in her interactions with all the children despite the dysfunction of the classroom. We have no complaints with any of the other staff either, as from the director all the way to the school cook were fantastic with our child and pro-active concerning our issues. Still, we expected more in the sense of "day care" and a "safe, nurturing environment" for our child and were sorely disappointed with Stepping Stone #14.

Our child is now in a new school in South Austin and after just five days, wouldn't change it for the world.

Cons: Unshaded outdoor jungle gyms, failure to remove repeteadly very disruptive children from the school

I was surprised to read the previous two reviews, as our experience at Stepping Stone XIV has been almost entirely positive. We have two daughters, four and one, and our oldest has been at SS XIV since she was 12 months old. Her teacher, Miss Bill, is now my younger daughter's teacher, and we have always felt that our girls were safe and in good hands.

The last two teachers that my oldest daughter had, Miss Pam and Miss Debbie, have been at the school since we first enrolled there, and they are two of the finest people we've ever met. They have positive attitudes, a genuine warmth toward the children, and incredible rapport with both kids and parents. Both of our daughters are actively engaged in learning, and the oldest is definitely getting good preparation for school. We looked at a lot of child care options when we first became parents, and Stepping Stone was the only place that we felt comfortable enrolling our children.

I'm sure that every business goes through cycles, and there have been times when we've seen teachers come and go, but overall, we still feel like Stepping Stone is the best. We love the curriculum, we love the staff that ALWAYS greets our daughters by name, and we love the facility. I'm sure the previous reviewers' experiences are NOT the norm at Stepping Stone. Our concerns have always been promptly resolved by the staff. I hope that the previous reviews won't prevent prospective parents from going and checking out the school for themselves. In our book, Stepping Stone is still Number One!

Pros: Superior Staff, Warm Atmosphere, Great Learning Environment

Terrible place! I agree with the first review about the turnover rate. Teachers can not control the children. No discipline for kids who harm other kids. My child's teacher is so immature that she was caught laughing and smirking after my child had gotten injured. Please don't bring your child here unless you are extremely desperate. Its cost us lots of money and emotional issues for my child.

Pros: The director and Asst Director are nice and try at least.

Cons: The Director and Asst Director dont have a handle on things as they should. Bad selection of teachers for the older children is an issue.

Beware - the turnover rate at this school is OUTRAGEOUS - my son was there for 10 months and had THREE teachers, as well as an extended period of time with no primary caregiver assigned. The "administrator" who gave us the tour left, her replacement left...they were on their third when we left. Twice when I arrived to pick him up I couldn't find him, and no one could tell me where he was. Once, when he was barely over two, he was turned loose in the three year old playground. He had a rather significant cut on his face once - no accident report written, and no one could tell me what happened. Once I found him diaperless and soaked. They have had to call the police to escort fired teachers out of the building. The director of this school is completely out of control, out of touch, and has no leadership or communication skills, let alone the responsibility and experience needed to provide quality childcare. The place is beautiful, but it is a mess, and I think a dangerous one. When I brought my concerns to the main office they ARGUED with me, told me I was mistaken, and took a tone of arrogance...interesting customer service policy. Avoid this place.

Pros: too chaotic and dangerous for any pros to count

Cons: dangerous, poor communication, OUTRAGEOUS turnover.
