Make sure you anticipate anything and everything that could go wrong in the event of flight delays and cancellations. Our flight was canceled out of JFK due to bad weather. Roads were totally impassable and the railroad service to the JFK Airtrain was suspended. We could not get to the airport if we tried. We totally understand the delays and cancellations. Intropa made a new reservation with Alitalia. I called Alitalia at 2:30 AM and spoke to their reservation desk and was told the reservations were canceled because the tickets were not printed within the allowed time.

Non-the-less, we went anyway in case there was really a flight that was ready to go at any time that would accommodate all those who were canceled.

Much to our surprise, well, not mine but the others, all the flights were already booked. They put our kids on stand-by.

We called Intropa. They told us that the parade organizer made the arrangements. The parade organizer does not answer her phone any longer. The parade organizer organized a trip for high school girls to tour London and Rome between Christmas and New Years Day and perform at the New Year's Day Parades, then return to the US on Jan.2. The woman from the parade organizers gave us a reservation and said that the flight number would not appear because this was an additional flight. She called Intropa (at least she said she did) to get the flight number. Now, that was still okay except that they never changed the flight to match the reservations and no tickets were printed. Therefore, Alitalia canceled the reservations. The parade organizer (travel agent) told me that this trip has been taking place every year for the last 20 years or so. Never once in the past 20 years did they have any problems.

Intropa takes no responsibility, the parade organizer does not answer the phone. The last conversation we had was that Alitalia was being unreasonable. I think if you "read between the lines" Alitalia was within their requirements and the parade organizer was either lying, or manipulated the situation because there was nothing else she could do and knew it would end up as a stand by reservation. meanwhile, since we canceled ( we had travel insurance) the others will be unaccompanied minors. There was no provision for them to travel without an escort in the flight arrangements.

She said she never had any problems before. Well, it is hard to believe that a travel agency has never had any problems or situations to work through.
