The American Diabetes Association is all about raising money for the national level, for the purpose of employee bonuses. It is run by people who are driven by sales quotas. There is no compassion in their jobs to assist diabetics with support groups, knowledge of a diabetic diet, assistance for foot care, eye care, etc. When you walk into the diabetes office, the employees are less than knowledgeable in diabetic care, and instead will hand you a few outdated brochures, then send you on your way. They don't have a clue as to what it takes to manage diabetes, yet they solicit money from major corporations in the community. Oh, and by the way, the employees are never there. You'll find them taking an hour and a half for lunch, always opening the office late, leaving early (especially leading up to a holiday), and taking advantage of employee privileges. Also know that the medical community DOES NOT support this group. Every physician who was on the board in McAllen has abandoned the American Diabetes Association. In fact, they started their own local diabetes group!!! Do not give your money, time, or support to this less than worthwhile group.
