It is a convenient location to find, but the parking can be challenging. Seems to be quite busy, but sometimes things (especially produce products) could be fresher.

I'd give them a 3.5 if half a star was available. I really liked it when I moved here, but the quality seems to have gone down a bit. Still, a good value and there is some tasty stuff on there. Actually, I like the burger a lot...

This place reminds me of Tex-Mex from the East Coast. But this is Texas people! Should be done better. All the usual suspects are on the menu and there really are no surprises. A little too greasy and the most mystifying (-ly bad) cheese on the planet.
It's fine for standard TexMex fare but don't expect anything too grand. Stand out at breakfast are the Pete's Tantalyzing tacos!

This is your classic Tex-mex place!. The food is really good, and the prices are great. This location is popular, and well run and clean. The lunch specials here cannot be beat!

The food is your standard tex mex fare. Its is all very tasty. None of the items are too adventurous, which is good here, as its standard Tex-mex done well.

The drinks are great here as well. It gets really busy here, so be prepared to wait.

My husband and I go to Maudie's every Sunday for breakfast, I love the french toast and he enjoys the Migas
the service is great, the prices are reasonable, I really like the atmosphere too, we are thankful to have Maudie's in our neighborhood because there are not a lot of newer places that have a classy feel to them. Plus they always remember to fill up my coke!

Pros: Plenty of seating, parking, value and food is delicious

      Cons: chips could be thinner

There's still not a lot of restaurants near Brodie and Slaughter, which is a plus for this Maudie's. Otherwise lost in a crowd, the Maudie's stands out here amid the pizza delivery places and fast-food joints. Overall, it's not bad, but nothing special. I recommend the Skinny Sheryl's, especially for those watching what they eat. Corn tortillas filled with tender chicken and covered in a spicy green sauce. It's surprisingly filling and one of the cheapest entrees on the menu. For being in a strip mall, the decor is pretty nice and attractive.

Don't bother visiting before 11am. I have never been to a mexican restaurant that doesn't have chips and salsa before 11am. The Pete's breakfast tacos are great, despite the store bought tortillas. Home-made tortillas would make Maudies 100% better. Overall, service is average, but better at the bar. The food is ok, breakfast tacos are good, and tortillas must be bought at the Randalls next door.

we have been going to Maudie's for 10 years, switched from lamar to this one when it opended. Food is just as good and I like the atmosphere, but it is just a little too loud inside, especially when you end up gettng seated by the dirty dishes drop off. But we are hooked and go every Friday night!!

Service is ok, I say that because everytime I go there, I don't seem to get the best waiter/waitress. They can't all have bad days.. we used to go there once a week. Now the wait is just too long. I like their Blackened fish dish. But for the price, I would put up with a little bad service and good tex-mex. Plus it is near my side of town, not too far of a drive.

      PROS: Cheap, good food.
      CONS: Mediocre service.

Great location and good service were the highlights of our trip to Maudie's newest location. The resturaunt has a nice and casual atmosphere, and the wait wasn't very long. If only the food lived up to the potential. The food came quickly and was well presented, but only amounted to below average Tex-Mex fare. Unfortunately, the adage about the "hole-in-the-wall" resturaunts having the tastiest Mexican food holds true here. Not much authenticity, and some of the important flavors are muted by a consistently overused spice. Will probably try it again, because the atmosphere and the drinks are a welcome addition to this area of twon.

      Message from Maudie’s Hacienda

Maudie’s Cafe had a couple of generations of history and featured home style cooking by the time Joe first met Maudie Hamilton Wilson. Maudie served home cookin to the Austin politicos, families, neighborhoods, and O’Henry students. Started in 1954, Maudie’s Cafe was 810 sq ft of yum – serving biscuits and gravy, chicken and dumplings, and cold beers. Maudie planned to close down her restaurant as she had become homebound, but as fate would have it, Joe Draker walked into Maudie’s life looking to rent the house next door and walked out with a handshake deal to buy the cafe. Turning from homestyle to Tex-Mex in 1993 with the instrumental guidance from Roe and Pete Hernandez along with their brother, Jorge Arredondo, Joe, crew, and the customers have turned Maudie’s Tex-Mex into an Austin Icon, a Tex-Mex family staple serving multiple generations.

Maudie’s Tex-Mex has been serving up tried and true Tex-Mex for 25 years. With seven area locations, our goal is to bring the best of Tex-Mex to a neighborhood near you. Hand prepared dishes and fresh-squeezed juices daily, we select natural proteins and organic, local, farm fresh eggs because we take healthy eating to heart alongside flavor and tradition. Quintessential Tex-Mex for today’s Austin.
