This hotel is surrounded by Austin's busy-ness, but you'll never know it when you're at the hotel. I remember the lush landscaping, especially around the pool, and how I forgot I was in Austin. The rooms were huge, compared to a standard hotel room, and comfy. I thought the included breakfast would be a little more health food oriented, but the other than that, this hotel is just fine.

I would strongly recommend Habitat Suites to friends and family. A family of five, we had a two bedroom suite - two bedrooms with a sleep away couch. Everyone was comfortable in the hotel. The kitchen is fully loaded with a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, pots and pans.

We were very impressed with the breakfast and the evening brunch. There is absolutely no reason to go out in the time for a better breakfast unless you want a steak for breakfast. Infact, we felt that we only needed to be responsible for one meal a day.

The staff was very pleasant.

We keep coming back here whenever we visit Austin. From arrival when we are greeted by friendly staff, to the big rooms & nice kitchens, to the great healthy breakfasts, we like it. Even the landscaping is organically grown & edible.
I like the Green consciousness that is followed in running this place day to day. Wish we could walk to get somewhere besides Highland Mall, tho. The location means we need a car or to ride on city buses for a while to get downtown.

Habitat Suites rocks for multiple reasons:
1.Green, green, green. The most sustainable, amazingly conscious hotel I have ever stayed at and they have been that way before it seemed important.
2. Great suites, one and two bedroom with kitchen, which let's me cook when I want, which saves me money and is more healthy.
3. The grounds are gorgeous! Fig trees bursting with ripe figs, native landscaping, lovely pool and hot tub not overloaded with chlorine. Could use some aesthetic work, but water is clean. Truly an oasis along I-35.
4. Free Breakfast and happy hour. Great breakfast where you can get hearty whole grain cereal, or bacon and eggs. Starbucks coffee, Tazo tea and regularly stocked black tea from China. Offer Sucanat, not just sugar. Even udon noodle soup for Asian travelers.
5. Staff is great, but they are light staffed on weekends, so just be aware.

Cons:
Location is odd, but the access to I-35 is relatively easy if you use St. John's exit. Yes, Sugar's in next door. Ignoring it is easy. Highland Mall is not a destination of any kind, so hop on the highway to shop elsewhere. Also,it is an older hotel, so furniture is dated to early 90's. Could use a fashion update in the rooms, but otherwise clean.

I've stayed here and family has stayed here multiple times. I actually lived here 30 days after a house fire and loved it. My kiddo loves it too!

We liked staying here and will stay here again. It was close enough to UT and downtown that travel time was not an issue The breakfast buffet and happy hour snacks were good, beds were comfortable and we had a full kitchen in our suite. It was perfect for staying over with children, not so sure I'd go here for a romantic vacation, but great for a family trip.

I have been staying at Habitat for over 8 years and always felt it is a hidden gem. The initial attraction was it was one of the first "green" hotels, but the added bonuses include quiet, serene surroundings, an oasis pool with a waterfall and gardens. The fabulous full breakfast buffet includes fresh and organic offerings alongside some delicious breakfast entrees, Starbucks coffee and Tazo teas. Staff is always friendly and helpful, and the proximity to attractions is very close. A great deal!

A great selection of beverages and snacks each evening. Comfortable and clean rooms. Relaxing atmosphere with beautiful natural surrounds and peaceful silence not expected in this location which is very good (close to downtown) and within walking distance from the mall. Free hot breakfast that includes eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hot and cold cereals, fruits, juices, milk, coffee and teas. Also has a Happy Hour with a vegan/vegetarian choice along side the ??normal?? types of selections. Even has posted quiet hours notices to guests. Highly recommended!

Habitat Suites is a nice respite in a convenient location in Austin. They pride themselves on being environmentally conscious and the grounds are interspersed with fruits and vegetables, with blackberries available for the picking. They have the best hot breakfast and happy hour around and the suites are real suites (separate bedrooms). The location is a little difficult to find, but right next to a mall, movie theatre and rapid transit! Be sure and ask about their room cleaning policies as they are not as flexible as some bigger hotels. Enjoy your stay!

I used Habitat Suites for out-of-town guests at my wedding, and it received rave reviews all around. Now I always stay there whenever I need a hotel in Austin. The grounds are beautiful, and the rooms spacious. The staff is very friendly, and the complimentary breakfast is delicious! They have a neat garden around the pool with organic plants and flowers. They do not use chlorine in their pool, so it feels very nice on your skin. Just make sure you're prepared to be quiet during your stay, as that is a high priority for the staff (for the consideration of other guests).

We found this hotel when we needed a place for an extended stay to visit family in Austin. It fit the bill perfectly. The rooms are well taken care of, clean and make for a pleasant stay. Using the efficiency kitchen helps cut down on costs.
The included breakfasts are perfect with good choices, freshly prepared. In the warmer months, there is a small pool which the grandkids love. Plenty of parking.

The fact that being as green as possible is clearly a goal of the hotel is an added plus. We have stayed here several times and were satisfied each time.

We visited Austin to attend the UT Longhorns Baseball game vs. Baylor on Saturday night and then cheer on our son-in-law who was running in the Austin Bun Run on Sunday. From the time we arrived and had a very easy check-in to sitting down at the relaxing manager's reception we knew that this was to be a special weekend. The room was extremely enormous and spacious. The happy hour was not your ordinary chips, salsa, and popcorn. How about mozzarella sticks and marinara, mini-pizza rolls, cheesy spinache balls with ranch dressing, fruits and veggies, chips and salsa, and mini sausages. top that off with a selection of beer and wine--and we almost did not make the baseball game. After a 14-inning victory for the Horns, we returned to the hotel and strolled the garden walkways to our mini-castle suite. The bed was comfortable and the pillows perfect. The marathon run the next morning was another success as Dan finished in the top five. We then enjoyed a bountiful buffet of eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits/gravy, breads, muffins, fruits, variety of juices, coffees, and TAZO teas was the perfect topping for a wonderful weekend. We will definitely return for another marathon, another Horn victory, and another wonderful experience at the Habitat Suites!

Our family of four stayed here in December, and can??t wait to go back in May. Our suite was spacious, clean and comfortable. The kids (and parents!) loved the suite layout because everyone had their own space instead of being crammed together in a hotel room. The complimentary happy hour came with great snacks. The complimentary breakfast was the best hotel breakfast we have *ever* had. Lots to choose from, so everyone started the day with a great meal. We were there with several other families, and enjoyed happy hours and breakfast together as well as relaxing in the pool and hot tub.

I stayed at the Habitat last year on business, and was very impressed with the changes they had made. I really liked the quiet hours notice to guests, the breakfast and evening snacks and the room ~ good kitchen space! The only drawback I found was that the bed and pillows could have been a lot more comfortable = need to be softer and more quality to them like so many other hotels (like Springhill Suites). Anyway, I recommend Habitat for a nice stay ~ very congenial staff too

I stay at this hotel every time I travel to Austin and don't even look elsewhere when booking a hotel. Its basically a condo/apartment complex converted to a hotel so you get your own apartment with full kitchen and living room. Your front door opens to a nice patio/balcony surrounded by lush green lanscaping with mature trees in a quiet part of town. They serve a full breakfast, nothing special except that you can sit sit at the poolside and enjoy the great outdoors and the nice Austin (most of the time) weather. Feels like coming home to my own place after a night out on sixth street which is just a short drive away.

Habitat Suites is an absolute gem of a find! Tucked away from the main street, it has a quiet, peaceful vibe. Rooms are easy to access, clean, and a decent size with the kitchenette. The friendly staff serves a complimentary breakfast buffet with traditional fare, and some vegetarian/vegan options. The complimentary happy hour is a major bonus and a great way to start your evening. The pool looks very inviting and is a great retreat for families with children. I have had the pleasure of staying at the Habitat Suites several times in the past few years...My daughter (and only child) was attending college there in Austin and Habitat Suites was the perfect place to stay to help alleviate my separation anxiety. It is always clean, comfortable and has every comfort of home, from the living/sitting area to the separate bed and bathrooms and I can leave out the fully equipped kitchens. I have told all of my friends about Habitat Suites, and many of them have stayed. I also travel back and forward to Austin on business and habitat is my home during those stays as well. It's truly a wonderful place to Stay...

?Habitat Suites is an oasis in the middle of Austin, Texas. Their commitment to Ecological Consciousness sets the bar for Green Hotels. Enjoyed an awesome (and sustainable) breakfast of eggs (from happy chickens raised at a local farm) with biscuits plus gravy or local fruit. The grounds have integrated vegetable gardens with indigenous plants and they often donate vegetables to the homeless. The suites are beautifully appointed and I love the fact they use environmentally safe cleaning products. I would recommend Habitat Suites to anyone visiting Austin or for just a great escape if you are local. Be sure to try the saline pool and note the solar panels that grace the roof! I give this environmental hotel 5 stars!?

You'd never know you are so close to the freeway. It's a quiet, restful place to stay. The staff is really friendly and helpful. The pool is fantastic and doesn't smell of chlorine. Habitat Suites has a great free breakfast and serves beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks in the evening. The suites are huge and all have 2 TV's and a full kitchen. And they take pets! You'll feel comfortable here.

Habitat Suites has a great free breakfast and serves beer, wine, soft drinks and snacks in the evening. The suites are huge and all have 2 TV's and a full kitchen. And they take pets! You'll feel comfortable here.

Pros: Quiet, Breakfast, Staff

I have actually never stayed in Habitat Suites, but I have put up visiting relatives on 2 occasions. My sister loved it so much that she vows to stay there everytime she comes to Austin. You will sometimes get rates $20 cheaper than the ones advertised on this site. My cousin got a great rate even in the midst of South by Southwest. The area of Austin is not glamourous, but it is really convenient to I-35 and Lamar. Complimentary breakfast and dinner are served, which my cousin really appreciated. It's also got all this pretty greenery and landscaping, making you forget you are across from the mall. The only negative thing my sister had to say was that the locks on the door were not child-proof. My 2 year old nephew nearly opened it several times.

Cons: no childproof locks

Peaceful courtyard, lovely landscaping, no toxic chemicals, vegetarian and vegan breakfast options.... Not to mention comfortable rooms and fully equipped kitchens. Its hard to leave. Location is not central, but its not far enough north to get you stuck in traffic trying to get downtown. Its a wonderful place.
