My favorite thing to do in Austin!

by Melanie A. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,964

The Alamo Drafthouse is awesome! I can't recommend this place enough, it's a must if you're in Austin and looking for something to do. All the locations are great for catching a movie and having a good time, but the Drafthouse Downtown does special shows too. My favorites are Spike and Mike's Sick and Twisted Animation Festival, and the Foleyvision events. They offer so many different things, there has to be something for everyone on their schedule.

As far as food, their meals are pretty pricey. I usually eat beforehand, then just get an Italian soda and dessert. The best is the Molten Chocolate Cake a la Mode!

Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas

by Jessica M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 8,180

This is the best idea ever! Why hasn't this place been around forever! Dinner, movie, and drinks! Awesome! It's a can't miss. Hubby and I are able to go out on a "date" sometimes...but we don't always have a lot of time, so the Alamo Drafthouse is perfect for us. The food isn't bad, the drinks are better! And something else I appreciate, we have even been able to take the kids to certain kid friendly shows. Granted, the theatre can be very crowded with a lot of kids, but the kids enjoy the show and Mom & Dad still get a drink! Oh, and Tuesdays used to be Bring your baby day to the Lake Creek location. I'm not sure if they still do that....you'd think with a one year old I'd check into that!

PROS: FUN!

Great evening out!

by Sarah B. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 12,734

Comfortable seats, reasonably priced food, workable ordering system. Shows a broad variety of movies. Good for a date, a group outing, or alone. Probably one of my favorite theaters.

PROS: The movie/dinner combo is a great one!
CONS: Food service is slow.

The most awesome movie theatre around

by Robert L. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 7,719

Where else can you eat good food or drink a great variety of beer while watching a movie?

Although they don't always have all the newest films, they have somewhat intelligent managers who seem to always get good films.

Austin has 4-5 locations, but the most popular is probably the downtown Drafthouse, which offers live shows (check out Mr. Sinus) and special dinner events with some movie showings.

To top it off, ticket prices are right in line with most other chain cinemas, and beer and food prices are about what you'd expect to pay at a regular, sit-down restaurant.

Dinner and A Movie?

by Miranda M. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,916

Alamo Draft House is a wonderful place to go for a night out. You can watch a movie and eat a meal and have drinks all at the same time. The movie seats are comfortable and the choices of food make my mouth water just thinking about it. They serves a good variety of appetizers and drinks as well. The staff is curtious and the choice of movies are appealing. They often offer them nights where they offer a movie and specials to go with the movie.

cool idea

by T W. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 9,879

Alamo Drafthouse is a great place to "experience" the movies. It's not your average movie theater where you go and watch a movie. You go to the Alamo to be part of the movie....yell at the movie, drink beer with the movie, and sometimes get up and DANCE with the movie!

This place is part of what makes Austin unique. A great selection of movie-thons that you will NEVER find anywhere else, and dinner to boot! There's live entertainment sometimes, wacky contests, rare movie footage, etc... You have to experience it!

What a great concept!

by Brenda S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,652

This theatre offers dining while watching a movie. You can even order some beer while you sit back and enjoy the flick. My favorite thing about Alamo Drafthouse is Baby Day. Baby Day is on Tuesdays. You may bring you baby with you to the first showing of a movie. I took my little guy to many movies there so that I could get out of the house.

PROS: Baby Day
