We love Chan Thai and dine there or order it to go or for delivery about once a week. I do not understand the negative reviews here as we have NEVER had a bad experience. If we even ever had a tiny issue like needing an extra sauce, the management on duty took care of it immediately. This place is a winner and we in the "OC" love it!

Pros: Great, fresh food at a fair price

I've eaten at this restaurant every week for the last 4 years. The service is excellent, the wait staff is friendlier than any other Thai restaurant in N. Oak Cliff. The food is always fresh, tasty with a good bite to it. Just over the past year I've seen this restaurant just keep getting better.

Congratulations to the owner and the staff of Chan Thai for creating a consistently good dining experience along with excellent wait staff that are always friendly.

Pros: Fresh & delicious Thai Food

Cons: hard to get a table at lunch but worth the 5 minute wait

.

Only an opinion but I found the menu and the food predictable and unimaginitive. The chicken in the Pad Key Mow was tough and gristly. I've tasted better in frozen TV dinners. Heard it changed owners a while back and locals say the food has not been the same quality since.

Pros: Inexpensive, kid friendly

Cons: Parking lot is not well lit at night, always has potholes.

I ordered orange chicken. The good thing about white rice is that you see anything dark on or in it... there was a small insect in it. When the manager came out, she stated it was a "small and cute" and "nothing big." My stomach turned and I was no longer hungry. Rather than comp a meal that had two bites consumed, I was charged full price. Stay away from this place!

I just force-fed myself one of the worst meals I've ever had.

I'm new to Oak Cliff, and was excited to find Thai food so close to my neighborhood. The prices are a little steep for simple dishes, but I just assumed it would be worth it.

I ordered to-go the panang curry with tofu, requesting spicy. What I got was SLOP. The tortured vegetables were overcooked in BUTTER, leaving limp, soggy, lifeless slices of snot. It even TASTED like snot. Uck. BUTTER!?! And there was no flavor, no spice, and the sauce was a sad puddle at the bottom of the box, obviously hiding from the butchered pieces of pissed-off tofu.

I couldn't finish the meal. This is over-priced SLOP, and the only thing inspired about this dish was this bitter review. If I had been served this tripe in the actual restaurant, I'd have kindly sent it back.

If a Thai place can't make a decent curry, they're useless. Anyone praising this place must be tongue-numbed by microwaved dinners and Camel Lights. Do yourself a favor and skip this place.

Chan Thai is a place I take people who are looking for something off the beaten path. They have amazing pad thai that can feed the entire table. The corn patties are a must.

As a long time resident of Oak Cliff its not hard to find yummy choices for lunch or dinner ... But, Finding Great Thai food and delivery in the same place is not the norm for the Cliff...
Delivery here is generally limited to pizza's ... Finding someone that delivers exceptional food is a real blessing and Chan Thai is no dissapointment...
From they're extensive menu to they're friendly staff , You can't go wrong here...
I favor the corn cakes, dumplings and chicken skewers for appetizers and then almost always order the peanut chicken for the main course. It's always Good ! flavorful and consistant every time I order it...With a Thai tea to wash it all down...reminds me of Pattaya beach !!!!
Delivery is usually within the hour...Make sure and order extra cucumber sauce for your Thai dumplings, Its really good.

I read the comments from a previous reviewer and couldnt disagree more. The food is excellent and extremely consistant, my friends and I eat there at least once a week and have never had anthing less than fresh and flavorful. Best Pad Thai in town. Waiters are friendly and attentive and atmosphere is warm and comfortable.

I couldn't disagree more with reviewer xlr8. Every restaurant has a disgruntled patron from time to time, but the success of Chan Thai is apparent in the sheer numbers of people hurrying to get in as there are few vacant seats around lunchtime. The delivery business is booming because of the meticulous service and detail given to every order. This little jewel box of an eatery is fabulous. The authentic Thai cuisine is in many local opinions is the best in DFW. This is not your typical, predictable Asian restaurant experience, it is like dining in an upscale art gallery with the many original colorful, contemporary oil paintings. Even the light fixtures are artist signed and numbered. Most important of course is the food which is always fresh cooked to order, nothing is ever premade or frozen. The many accompanying sauces are also made by hand. The pecan encrusted Tilapia is a favorite seafood specialty as well as the Citrus Beef and the many umbiguous curry, rice and noodle dishes are all delicious. The service is friendly and efficient and one of the owners is always on the premises if not always present in the view of the patrons. They have a nice selection of wines and Asian beers and also a heavenly tropical concoction of a frozen cocktail called a Samui. The patronage is not just neighborhood locals, many business people and North Dallas residents are coming to the trendy Bishop Arts District and Chan Thai because the food and service are especially good. The prices are still surprisingly moderate for the quality and generous portions. I have been to many restaurants in many countries, Chan Thai is always a great dining experience for myself and for the many diners I have referred there.

If you live in Oak Cliff, Chan Tai was heaven sent when it first opened simply because it was not fast food, Mexican or one of the over-priced "Bishop Arts District? boutique restaurants. The food was prepared with fresh ingredients; there were actually linen napkins on the table; the food was tasty and reasonably priced; and, the Owners were always present to make it right. Unfortunately, with time and success, things have changed and today matters are not always predictable.

Don't get me wrong. Chan Tai means well and the fresh ingredients, napkins and reasonable prices are still there. Unfortunately, it's "a toss of the coin" every time you walk through the door these days simply because the on-site management is lacking and there is little attention to detail. This, unfortunately, is the result of the two (2) owners now attempting to run and own (at last count) three (3) restaurants at the same time. If you dine "in" the food comes out right most of the time and is pretty good. If you order to "pick-up" or have it "delivered," you're rolling the dice simply because there's no one at the restaurant that seems to be checking the orders that are going out the front door to make sure customers are getting what they ordered. Likewise, if you're use to a beer or a glass of wine with your meal, you should call in advance to make sure what they're serving is going to be acceptable (there's no liquor or wine by the glass and beer selections are limited).

The restaurant's lunch traffic is always busy with the professionals and the Methodist Hospital crowd, so if your looking for a quiet evening, Chan Tai may be your best and affordable choice in Oak Cliff simply because most of the Bishop Arts restaurants do little weekday business in the evening. If you're from "across the river," however, you may not be think it was worth the drive.

Pros: Asian American Food in Oak Cliff

Cons: kitchen misses on some evenings; wine/beer selection not the best; "community" parking lot shared with other restaurants can cause problems

.

A small place which enables personalized service. I have never had a bad meal and have always been seated immediately upon arriving. Because the numbers of wait staff is limited they tend to seat people towards the rear in order to be closer to the kitchen but there is not enough noise in the kitchen to be annoying.

Chan Thai is located in the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff. They have great food that is custom prepared to order. Pick beef, pork, chicken or tofu in your noodle or rice dish. You also get to determine how spicy you'd like your entree. They have a frozen drink called a Samui that you can get for $1 on Wednesday nights. They're closed on Monday.

PROS: tofu dishes
CONS: Closed on Monday

I have been searching for Thai since I moved to Dallas. This Thai place is near my office, I love it!! Whenever I try a new place I order my usual so that I have a baseline to compare. Since we went there for lunch we ordered from the Lunch menu. I ordered a Thai Iced Tea, lunch special Pad Thai - spicy with no bean sprouts, Chicken Satay, side of steamed rice, and Fried Bananas with Green Tea Ice cream. My co-worker ordered the lunch special Pineapple Fried Rice without the raisins. Both lunch specials come with a cup of soup and a spring roll. Great food, good lunch portions. Everything was made to order, fantastic. If you like truly fried bananas I'd suggest no ordering the dessert. It was mildly sauteed, not much batter on it. If you are health conscious you will appreciate it.

I think the food is below average. I ordered take-out last week. The won ton soup appeared to be packaged wontons in beef broth...it was inedible. The chicken in the entree didn't even look like chicken. And, the vegetables were mushy. I have had the same experience there before; but, decided to try it once more only because I live in Oak Cliff and it was convenient. Now, I understand why everytime I have been there, they are never busy.

This charming jewel of a Thai restaurant in the "Bishop Arts" district will rival any in pricey north Dallas. This Thai "haute cusine" is authentic and made from scratch, the Citrus Beef is the best I have had anywhere. The frozen "Samui" is like an awesome pina colada elixir kicked up to the top level. It's like dining in an art gallery with original modern art, even the lighting fixtures are signed by the artist. Moderatly priced (for now) to boot. Made this thai foodie a very happy customer.
