I would like all to know the reason for the poor service is due to no payments to company that provides product being transport in - I know the pet store only care about them and once they get what they want the could care less - I've know

I have read Kat's review and Ken's response. I'm with Ken. I have been buying from Pet O Rama for years. I was excited to finally have a real pet store in Waxahachie when they opened. They have a good selection if you're not looking for something specialized. They have their faults. Perfect, no, good, yes.

As far as the animals, I hate anyone selling animals out of a pet store, HOWEVER. I purchased a kitten from them and another from the SPCA the same day. The cat at the SPCA ended up having a bacterial infection. I purchased the SPCA pet insurance the same day. After spending over $500 in vet bills and three months of a cat having constant diarrea I took the cat back. She would poop diarrea as she walked. Disgusting. They said they would have to put it down. THE SPCA! The insurance claimed the issue was pre-existing and would not pay. The SPCA's conditions were no better than Pet O Rama's.

The SPCA will not adopt out any animals if you are not going to keep them inside all the time. This includes large dogs. Animals need adequite shelter, but they also need to be outside to roam play and run! Any "shelter" that would rather put an animal down then have them live outdoors with good shelter is insane!

I love animals, but the so called "animal rights" people are crazy.

I ended up getting two more kittens from a individual just trying to get rid of them. They were the best healthest cats I've ever had. All three play outside and have a ball. At night we lock them in the garage, and they sleep in their soft bed with a heat lamp to keep them warm.

After reading these reviews I have no desire to patronize Pet-O-Rama. From the sound of it they get their puppies from a Puppy Mill. People. If you want a dog or cat go to a shelter!!!

I have bought 2 kittens in the past from them and that was quite a few years ago and I didn't like the mgr they had at the time! I had went back just last weekend and noticed they had a full blood chihuaha there and it had been there for a long time and I know this because it looked big and my husband and his sister saw it there a month and half before. They have this puppy priced at over $400. I would have loved to buy this puppy for my kids but I cannot afford that kind of money! I however did purchase another kitten from them. The employees were very friendly in informing me that one of the kittens is not suitable around children since I do have 3 kids! She had told me it scratched a child, so thanks to them telling me that I did not buy that little orange kitty I instead bought the kitten who was 2 mths old. She is very sweet and my children love her!

I feel sad for the pet I wanted. It's this big female dumpy white's tree frog at petorama. the cage has like a gallon of water in it and one tall rock that the frog must stay on so she doesn't drown. I am a frog expert so I know frogs should not have THAT much water in there cage. Oh I also know that type of frog loves crickets (since I have a male one at home) and they can't really feed it anything or the bug would probally fall off and drown leaving the frog's stomach empty.

I took my kids here to get them a Bearded Dragon. We had a great time buying our new pet. However, since then it has NOT been so great. I want to like this place and have a good opinon of them, but it is getting very hard. I have called everyday for a week about food. They do not have food for the animal they sold us. I have been driving to another town 45 miles away. I have no idea how they are even feeding the animals that they have if they don't have food for the ones they sell!!! (Waxahachie Store)

(in regards to the Waxahachie store)

It is clean, well maintained, with people who genuinely care about the animals they keep. The selection of their aquatic products is on par with any other non-specialized pet store.

a great place to shop for any animal you have. Their selection of selection of dog food is excellent! Much better than the typical food you can find at Walmart. The pets that they have on hand is a huge choice! They always seem to be out of something, and when I asked why they told me their budget doesn't allow them to always have everything in stock, but that they would try to get whatever I needed as soon as possible. I understand that they need to make money too, but I think their prices are a little steep. I love everyone that works there, they are always helpful, even if you have to wait 5 minutes to talk to someone. I have been a customer for years, and will continue to take my business there

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, for the past several months to purchase food for my parrot and reptiles at Pet O Rama. They are always out of everything. I thought they were going out of business the last time I went in because they had so few items on the shelves.

I've talked to the girl who claims to be the new manager and she promised me there would be tons of bird items and food as a result of her taking over because she was a "bird expert" and I have yet to see any evidence of this. If she is, indeed, placing the orders, what she is ordering is completely unacceptable and not something a "bird expert" would feed their parrots. The packaged parrot mixes all have peanuts in the shell, something anyone with a parrot knows to stay away from. There is a pitiful selection of toys to choose from. The cages for most of these birds are far too small. No cleaning supplies for sale, etc.

I've gone in three times in the past two weeks to purchase meal worms for my lizards and they are always out. The excuse is always, "they should be on the next truck." What concerns me the most is they have no shortage of animals for sale. So they sell the animals, but no food for them? That makes no sense.

It's also near impossible to find someone to help you at Pet O Rama. The employees will walk around and pretend not to see you, or they are talking amongst themselves, or just be in the back and completely unavailable. I've had to wait to make a purchase at the counter for over ten minutes on more than one occasion. Once, I finally had to go to the back and ask someone to come out to help me.

The advice they give you is ridiculous as well. I asked if they knew anyone who boarded birds. The employee handed me business cards for dog sitters and told me to call them to ask if they would do it. What kind of terrifying hell would that be for my bird? I asked if they could recommend a local bird groomer, the girl at the counter who looked all of 16 said, "I can do it." No thank you. If they do not know the answers to the questions, they should just be honest and say they don't know. If the store does offer bird grooming (which I seriously doubt), why was I not referred to the price list and terms? Very unprofessional.

I've tried to give a small, local store my business but Pet O Rama is forcing me to take my business elsewhere. Shame on the so-called "management" of Pet O Rama and shame on the owners for letting something like this happen.

A very dissatisfied customer,
Julie

i have recently started shopping at Pet-O-Rama again! I was very turned off by the store for a while! But i went to make a quick stop and I was amazed! No smell! All the animals were taken care of. The fish tanks didnt have dead fish them! And everyone seemed happy working! I asked a young lady who was working there if they were under new owners! She said no! just new management! To my surprise it was her as the new manager! She said that she wasnt even a portion of the way done with her plans! She even told me that she would have never bought an animal in the condition it was in! That girl seems to be doin something right! The store looks so much better! And the smell of death is gone! I will be shopping there again to see the rest of the changes.

In the past few years, I have noticed that Pet O Rama has really gone downhill. I can't even walk into that store anymore without getting sick. The smell will knock you over like a 4x4 It is the first thing that hits you really before you walk in. The dogs and cats are in such small cages, they can't really move around. No wonder they look so depressed. Not to mention, way overpriced. I am taking my business to duncanville or Cedar Hill at least I know their stores wont make me sick.

1. The odor when you walk in this place is repulsive. I left because I did not want my children inside the store. There were small dogs running freely and using the restroom all over the floors.

2. The adorable puppies in the store are ridiculously overpriced. We decided to buy our puppy from a breeder who was more than 3 times cheaper than what the store is asking. Its almost funny when they tell you the price of the animals. The poor things are crammed in small stalls with several other puppies. Very sad.

3. We use a certain dog food for our dog, and store clerks have told us that they will order and start carrying the dog food. We have been told this several times and still they have not done what they said.

4. I read the recent post of the owner of the store who seemed very mad at a review....what an unprofessional thing to do. That alone is another reason why I will never support that store by buying anything again.

To say the least, we will never go to this store again. It is more than worth the drive to go to the Petco in Cedar Hill for all pet needs.

I came in on March 2, 2009 at 4:00 to buy Dog food, they were out of everything. I had to buy a small bag, until the big bags came in which the gentleman did not know if they had any in the back and he did not know when more would be in. Could care less, had to wait in line for 5 minutes before he even came to the counter. It smelled and the dogs looked gross, like have not had a bath ever. Stuff in there hair. I liked shopping because of the card and a free bag of the dog food after a certain amount of buys. But is is does not get better I will be spending more to go to Tractor supply.

I have been a loyal shopper of the Pet-o-Rama in Waxahachie since it opened. The first couple of years the store was always clean, the employees were always polite, friendly and helpful. The animals seemed happy and well taken care of, however, the past year I have noticed a big difference in the store as well as the employees. The store is no longer kept clean, in fact when I walk in the smell of the store hits me so strongly that it nauseates me. As a pet owner, I realize no pet store can smell like a fresh day in spring but when I look in the cages of the dogs, rabbits and other small animals, it explains the reason for the bad smell. The animals often don't have fresh food and/or no water. The puppies are often overcrowded in their kennels and several of them seem to be growing up there. That brings me to your prices of the puppies. If you truly cared about finding those dogs a loving home, you should consider dropping the prices on those dogs which have been there for months. By not doing so, it tells me Pet-o-Rama cares no more for their puppies than a puppy mill would. I'm not a big bird lover but when I look into your bird cages it makes me want to take them all home. Some of your birds have also been there for a long time. I can understand keeping birds in cages until they sell but when they don't it is your responsibility to accomodate those bigger birds with a larger area. Several times I have noticed dead birds in their cages. Some didn't have food, some didn't have water and some didn't have either. I was in your store at 1:30 in the afternoon two weeks ago and none of the birds had been given fresh water and food. The water was brown and had feces floating in it. This is no way to treat captive held animals. I haven't even begun to address your reptile and fish department because I felt that the puppies and other animals are in worse shape. I do love your selection as far as dog food and other pet supplies go but if nothing is done to improve the care and upkeep of the animals I will no longer continue shopping at Pet-o-Rama and will start looking forward to Pet-Co or Pet Smart moving into Waxahachie.

I frequent your store on a regular basis, mainly for the convenience factor. True to what others have stated, all the crew there do seem to love the animals, however, some of the animals (mostly the dogs) seem to be staying there far too long. Most people it seems are wanting to buy a puppy so that they can bond with the animal from a young age. I've noticed some of the "dogs" seem to growing up in your little cages which often seem too crowded. When your crew starts naming the pets, it tells me that perhaps the dogs have been there awhile! Your prices seem to be extremely high for the area. Consider your customer and the community in which you are serving. After seeing many of the dogs there for 2-3 plus months, it seems that you might want to reconsider your pricing. Perhaps more of these dogs could find "loving" homes if they were more affordable. I was in your store the other night when a man brought in 6 puppies to be checked out so he could sell them to you. He stated in front of several customers that he would be getting $200.00 per puppy and that you would turn around and sell each of them for several hundred more! I truly understand making a profit, but it seems to be all about the buck to you and not about trying to find a "good loving" home for these dogs. There have been several dogs there that I would have loved to take home, however you "high prices" have prevented me from being able to do.

It is obvious that all the employees there care for their animals, and also care for the people who purchase the animals. I went to Pet O Rama in Waxahachie to purchase some little fish for my mother. The girl recommended that rather than buy a bunch of fish now, it would be better for me to wait until I knew that the aquarium was save for the fish. She tested the water for me and made great suggestions as to which fish would work for my mother who is a senior. Thanks Katie for all your help.

I don't think Ken's response is out of line. He obviously believes they are right and cares about what he is doing. My daughter adopted two adorable kittens there who were brother and sister. They were rescued and had just come in that day. We had to wait till the next day to adopt them because they were still in quarantine. They were definitely old enough to be adopted and they are the absolute best natured wonderful cats you could ever hope for. They were treated for fleas, which they did have when they were rescued, but the point is Petorama treated them and gave them their first shots and we were very happy. I have been in there when animals were out of water, but overall I think they are pretty conscientious.

They were treated for fleas, which they did have when they were rescued, but the point is Petorama treated them and gave them their first shots and we were very happy. I have been in there when animals were out of water, but overall I think they are pretty conscientious.

every time I come in the workers are more than willing to help me with any issue. If they do not have a direct answer they always find someone who does. All animals are well treated and seem to be great quality. I absolutely love Pet-O-Rama and will continue shopping with them. though some prices are a little high the helpful workers make it worth it.

Boy! You really showed your anger and it was scary. Actually, it was downright hateful with all the finger pointing. To think that you are a representative of the store makes me raise my eyebrows! I hope the owners of Pet-o-Rama have a talk with you because you just made the store look bad. You could have addressed Kat's letter in a dignified, respectful way and still got your point across. You were hoping to disclaim her but instead everyone who reads this will be focused on your letter and not hers. Think before you "speak" next time.

First lets be clear. YOU kill more animals every week than ANY pet store! You work at a shelter and most animals there are going to die by YOUR hand! Petorama sells pets to loving homes. They put more animals in loving homes than you EVER have or will

Let's answer you questions
1. Where do the puppies come from?
A: ME- I am a private buyer for Petorama. We go to meet SMALL breeders (no puppy mills) and inspect their kennels. Interview the breeders and ensure they are not over breeding.

2. Why would a breeder sell to a pet store when they can get 2-3 times the money selling direct?
A: Because most people wanting a pet are not willing to drive 200 miles to pick it up. The majority of breeders are in farmland areas not the city! So we provide this service.

3. At what age was the "infant" taken from his mother?
A: Typical heart string pulling it's NOT an infant! It's a puppy! And we will not take any animal under 8 weeks. Then we quarantine the puppy for one week to ensure it's healthy. So petorama has the healthiest puppies.

4. How much socailizing did the puppy get? We handle every puppy EVERYDAY! And I do not mean just picking them up. We really to give dam!

You Peta people are the most deceptive liars on the planet!
You kill more animals than all others combined. (14,000 anually)

We go to GREAT lengths to ensure Petorama has excellent puppies. My wife and hand pick them! We are very picky when it comes to breeders. 80% of the breeders we inspect we would not buy from. Many are filthy! That's exactly why you buy from a pet store! Because most have private buyers! Most breeders are not the place to get a dog! 80% fail inspections but sell to buyers everyday! At least at a pet store you have someone to hold accountable.

Petorama is an excellent place to buy a puppy. I know, they hold us to a very high standard! They take great care of their animals and their customers. They really are TOP SHELF!

How tragic for the pets in our community that there are still people in the pet 'business' that sell kittens/cats, puppies/dogs, rabbits & ferrets.

How many years ago has it been that PETsMART and PETCO showed the world that they could be very successful and have a lucrative business and NOT sell cats & dogs? Both PETsMART and PETCO support your community (therefore helping to save your tax dollars) by working with humane & rescue groups. They are much more deserving of your business than PETORAMA. And in my personal opinion, more trustworthy.

Before you buy a pet from PETORAMA DO YOUR HOMEWORK. Where do they get their "livestock"??? Why would any reputable breeder sell to a pet store when they can make 2-3 times as much money per animal selling directly to the owner? How old were the infants when taken from the mothers? How much human contact did they have, starting at what age (how socialized are they)?

I am a humane volunteer and have been for 20 years. I hear horror stories every day from people who have purchased pets from pet stores. Many of them felt sorry for the babies in the store and purchased for that reason. Others simply didn't know the pitfalls of pet store pets until it was too late. In the end it didn't matter why they purchased, the vast majority wished they had been educated and had adopted humane instead.

Search online about puppy mills before setting foot in this store, PETLAND, or any pet store that sells pets.

You'll find an endless list of humane and rescue groups online at petfinders and you'll probably find at least one group working adoptions out of your local PETsMART and PETCO every weekend.

Please don't buy when so many die in our shelters.

Thanks for listening. What I have stated here is not as much my opinion as it is my experience over the last 20 years. I've talked to a ton of people with broken hearts & sick or dying pets. If you truly care about pets & animals this is really important.

It is unfortunate that in this age of education that people still frequent this store knowing that they sell puppies and kittens.

There are so many wonderful pets available for adoption on www.petfinder.com and at reasonable prices (already spayed or neutered with shots) that I do not know why someone would support this store and puppymill breeders.

Do the compassionate thing and adopt a pet from a shelter or rescue group.

You wouldn't expect so much to be in such a small space. They have everything you need for almost any kind of pet you could have. Everthing from fish to birds to mice to snakes to dogs and cats can either be taken care of by the products, fed with the food, or even purchased from the store.

PROS: Huge selection of pet care products
CONS: small store space can get crowded easily

This pet store is the best there is, it is close to home and filled with a wide selection of merchandise. The staff is always willing to offer their friendly help and knowledge. The animal cages and habitats are always so clean. They carry the top of the line in pet foods and supplies. I shop here for all my pets needs and recommend this place to everyone.

PROS: Open seven days a week.

I love to go there to buy and just to browse. They have animals big and small and you can hold them all. There always seems to be one that takes my heart. The whole staff seems to know all the answers about any of my crazy pets.
