1 Stars: A good veterinary practice ruined by cold and insensitive staff (by Brent N.)

Dr. Pipes was my family's veterinarian for over 20 years. I've always thought highly of him and his practice until my last pet.

My family had a ten-year old dachshund. We always took her to Dr. Pipes for check-ups and allergy shots. When she became very ill, we took her to Country Brook Animal Hospital for care. Unlike our other visits, we had to leave her there while he performed some tests. We received a call from his office later that day informing us she had developed advanced liver cancer. His office promised to call back to further discuss her situation. We waited several hours, but there were no further developments. We finally drove back to Dr. Pipes office that afternoon for an update.

His staff, which some are members of his immediate family, seemed incredibly insensitive to our situation. They told us the doctor could possibly see us in a few hours after seeing the other patients. I can normally understand this, but you expect more when you learn that your animal is dying. We had to make a scene just to see our dog.

Dr. Pipes keeps his patients in cages in the back of his office. When we found our dog, we saw that she had been sick in her cage. No one had gone back to check on her. The nurse that led us back there simply left. I had to find her again to ask for paper towels to clean the vomit off her head. My heart aches when I think that she had to spend her last day in that cage.

We met with Dr. Pipes shortly after. He confirmed that there was nothing he could do. We asked his feelings on euthanasia, but he thought she would have a few more weeks. We took his advice and brought our dog back home. She succumbed several hours later.

I do not blame her death on Dr. Pipes, but I was absolutely appalled by the treatment we received from his staff. The fact that we had to yell and shout just to see our dying dog is terrible; that his staff yelled back is infuriating. I know they treat thousands of animals, but its like they have forgotten what it feels like to lose a pet. If I ever get another pet, I will not be taking him or her to Country Brook Animal Hospital.

Absolutely the best vet around! Compassionate, reasonably priced, fair, concerned--we've lived in several cities and never liked a vet as much as we do Dr. Pipes.

Everyone at the Country Brook Animal Hospital is AWESOME from the front desk to the nurses to the Dr.!!! They are GREAT!!! It's usually crowded which I don't mind the wait for the care you get not to mention the price!!

Dr. Pipes is a saint. He treated my boxer for a abscessed anal gland on his day off, July 4th. I caught him out in the parking lot of the clinic, and he took her right in and performed surgery within an hour. He kept her all night and watched her. I was expecting a outrageous bill too, but it was nothing compared to what I thought. Just over 200.00. I will never consider going to some else for my pets.

Dr. Pipes and his staff are awesome. My dachshund was having back problems and we were going there once a week to have an exam and medication. He never charged me an office visit, except for the first time I took him there initially. He would always call me the day after my visit to see how my dog was doing. When my dog eventually had to go see a surgeon for his back, Dr. Pipes called me after I dropped my dog at the surgery center to see how he was doing. Dr. Pipes truly cares about the animals and not the m money. Most Vets would have charged for an office visit for each time they came in, not Dr. Pipes. I spread the word about Dr. Pipes to as many animal lovers as I can, he is AWESOME!!

The office may look a little worn down, but do not let looks deceive you. The office is filled with friendly, quality people! The best friendly staff at a most reasonable price.

Thanks to the staff and Dr. Pipes you all have been the best when i take my puppy to you and i thank you and your staff for being the best.I would highly recommend your hospital to everybody.I live in mesquite and its worth driving to garland to take my dog to your place.the staff is friendly and very helpful to your pets needs and the owner,once again i thank you all for all you do for my baby Tristan.

Dr. Pipes and his staff are the best in the business. He is friendly and goes well beyond the call of duty to help his customers. He has saved the lives of a few of our dogs, and been with us when it was their time to pass on. The prices are more than fair. Get there early, lots of others know what a great vet he is!

Dr Pipes and his staff are the best, anytime day or night he is there. He always calls with updates on a sick animal, has been with us through everything from puppy or kitten shots to having to put a pet down. He is the most caring, knowledgeable, professional vet I have ever had the pleasure to know. I would never take any of my animals to anyone else. There are ANGELS among us and Dr. Pipes is definitely one of them. Dr. Pipes is a wonderful person as well as an awesome Vet. Thanks, Jane D.

Dr. Pipes is probably the nicest man, and most qualified vet around. He is the vet that you always hope you can find. He loves your dog almost as much as you do! Highly recommended, and VERY VERY professional. Perfect Vet, I will be sad when he retires

You can tell by all his other reviews but I just had to say it too, I love Dr. Pipes. He is wonderful with all animals. We have taken our pets to several vets and I have not seen one better than Dr. Pipes.

Dr. Pipes is without a doubt the best vet in Texas. He honestly cares about his patients and will answer emergencies even at 4am. His prices are the lowest I've ever seen. Great Vet!

I have been using Doc Pipes since he opened in '85. It started when I was living at home with my mom and she started using him. I have since grown up and now have a herd of my own. Dr. Pipes is probably the most caring and honest vet I have known. He has showed up at 3 am for us and has been there when we had to let pets go. He even remembers you outside the office as I have run into him socially several times and he always knows who my husband and I are. I would never use anyone else and to all his other customers and their owners, I have instructed him that he is not allowed to retire as the vet world would lose one of the best.

The office is always orderly and clean, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is great. I wish I still lived over in Garland because I miss them! I had a cat named Jimi, and sadly he was terminal by the time I found Dr. Pipes, but he was very helpful and eased my cat's suffering. Country Brook was the first place I stopped when I got new kittens and the bill wasn't too bad considering they were behind in shots, had ear mites and a cold. So, if you live in the Garland area, this is the place to go!

Doctor Pipes is such a great vet I would go no where else and I would NOT recommend anyone else. Last month my puppy was a victim of a horrible hate crime and I almost lost him, Doc Pipes was an angel and came through and saved him. I was so scared of what the bill was going to be but I couldnt believe how cheap it was, Doc Pipes and his wonderful staff gave me time and helped me with it also. All 4 of my dogs and my entire family love Dr.Pipes!!!!

I have been using Dr. Pipes since 1999 and he is an amazing vet & person. A few years ago my cat was poisoned and he saved his life - Dr. Pipes is an angel! He even took my cat home with him to make sure he made it through the night. I don't know many vets that would do that. He also keeps you posted if your cat stays overnight and someone from the office always checks up on them after you've taken them home. His staff is always so sweet and as a pet owner that means so much that you are leaving your pet with nice caring people. Now my whole family uses Dr. Pipes and they all feel the same. Dr. Pipes is truly a terrific vet!! Thanks to Vickie Donihue for recommending Dr. Pipes so many years ago.

We have been using Doctor Pipes ever since Country Brook opened and he and his staff are simply wonderful. You could not trust your pets care to anyone better. You can tell that he cares for his patients as demonstrated by his personal phone calls to check up on their condition after a visit. A world class practice!!

Dr. Pipes and staff are amazing. I have used him for years and just remembered two nights ago how amazing Dr. Pipes is....it was after 7:00 PM and I had a question regarding my dog, I meant to call the office but dialed his home instead. I really felt bad that I had phoned him at home, it wasn't a REAL emergency. He wife was wonderful and I apologetic, she said that is what he wants us to do..call his home if he is not at the clinic. While speaking with her he came in and immediately got on the phone with me. I am sure he thought I was crazy with the question I asked, but he was so professional and courteous. Like I said AMAZING..I would give them 10 stars if I could.

Dr. Pipes is the best. Like several have stated, doesn't matter day or night, he is there. Your pet is his top priority. He has not forgotten why he chose this profession. Your pet, is his pet. If your pet is really ill, he does not leave its side. He is very affordable and will work with you as well as he can. Doesn't matter if you have an appointment or not. If your pet is ill, he will treat it.

We have been patients of Dr. Pipes since he opened in 1985. He has been there for every pet crisis, cried with us when our pets have died, stayed up all night trying to save them, and is always willing to take a call, spend time answering questions. He is just wonderful, the staff if great, and I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else.

I had both our cats de-clawed and spayed/neutered here and feel like they were given wonderful care! We live in Dallas and it's definitely worth the short drive to Garland to take our animals to visit the team at Country Brook. Our cats are rather anti-social and I've had problems with other vets being able to handle them when theyre ill ~ but not here! The vet also is very sensitive to not only the pets needs but also to their owners. Prices are affordable. You dont feel like you are being taken advantage of or feel like you are having unnecessary products/procedures done.

PROS: Friendly, Affordable, Passionate about Animal Care!

I love the Veterinarian! He is truly caring and takes the time to go up to the office if it's his day off or if it's after hours.
He takes your calls after hours and doesn't sound rude if you bothered him. Very caring and loving man and does wonderful job at taking care of my pet.
