I also bought a Living Social deal for an all-day Spa Day at 505 Salon and Spa in January. Both me and my best friend purchased it and thought it would be a great way to catch up and relax one weekend since we both travel all the time for work. I called the minute I bought the deal to ensure that we would be able to get in together on a day that worked for us. We scheduled the appointment for 10am on April 16. For 3 months, we were so excited and looking forward to this day. At 5:00pm on April 14, I received a call but missed it - a man left a voicemail saying they needed to cancel my entire spa day and would call back within two weeks to reschedule. I got the message about 3 minutes after he left it and tried calling back for 2 hours until their close time at 7pm with no luck. I left a couple of messages requesting a call back but never reached anyone. After trying to call again the next morning and not even receiving a call back, I decided to go into the Salon to meet with the manager directly. I got there at 12:30 and the manager was out so I waited for an hour for her to return. When she returned, we went to her office and I explained that I was very upset they had just ruined my Saturday, that I had been looking forward to it for a very long time and that I had not made other plans to make way for that day. I also mentioned that I did not think it was appropriate for some receptionist to call and leave a voicemail cancelling and them not to call back or pick up the phone, that it would be best for a manager to make such a phone call and explain apologetically what happened. In all that time, I received no apology, but rather many excuses saying that Living Social had sold too many deals that they had a lot of people quit so could not handle the business. Interestingly enough, they will make great accomodations for walk-ins and non-Living Social clients and seemed to have normal business that Friday, the day before my originally scheduled appointment. The manager said that I could get a refund from Living Social, but I wanted an actual apology and explanation for the horrific customer service, as well as something to make up for all this trouble. I asked to schedule a meeting with the owner for next week. She was out of town but would be back into the salon on Wednesday. We agreed I would stop by on my lunch break for that meeting. I asked for the managers personal number so that I could call and confirm the meeting. Next wednesday when I called, the line was a disconnected number. I tried calling the salon and they said the manager and owner were out for the afternoon. I tried calling several times to reschedule and never heard back.

Since then, I filed a BBB complaint. It took 4 weeks for them to respond and when I finally got a response - they made excuses about having too many living social deals and that by visiting the Salon to express my complaints I was considered a "bully" although I never raised my voice once or said anything hurtful to any staff, but rather expressed my disappointment with the cancellation and wanted reconciliation for my ruined weekend. Overall, I have never experienced such horrible customer service in my life.

Salon 505 doesn't even deserve the 1 star but it wouldn't let me give zero. I booked an appointment over 2 months ago for a full day of spa services tomorrow. I thought it was funny that I never got a confirmation call from the spa reminding me about my appointment, especially since it was booked so long ago. I called today to confirm and was told that they see I am booked but that the spa will not be open tomorrow. I asked why no one ever called me to tell me they decided to close on Sundays so I could rebook and he said they don't have a working number for me. I asked him to verify what number they have on file and sure enough, it was my cell number. The same one I've had for 10 years, and get phone calls on every day. I asked why they would not be open tomorrow and he said the only thing he can do is let me talk to his manager. Ok. Fine. After waiting on hold for almost 10 minutes, he returned and said the manager would have to call me right back, as she is in the middle of something. That was 2 hours ago.

Long story short, this place has the worst customer service I have ever experienced and I wouldn't send my worst enemy here. It's that bad.

DO NOT GO TO SALON 505. I used to go to this salon but stopped because they are unprofessional and rude. The front desk would call me to confirm my appt but then I'd show up and it would not be on the books. Several issues like this occurred during the time I went there. I will say that the stylists always did a great job but that wasn't enough to keep me as a customer. I gave them another shot with a Living Social Deal and they just blew it again. I made my appt months ago for tomorrow and they just cancelled it on me. I took the day off with a friend to have a spa day and they said they didn't have enough staff to do the services. They did not apologize and the appointment could not be rescheduled until 3 months out. I bet they didn't cancel other appointments were customers were paying full price. They seemed happy to have me get my money back. They will not inconvenience me again. They probably had to run the great Living social deal because they lost so many customers but now they can't honor it. There are other spas in town and no need to deal with Salon 505.

I, too, bought the Living Social deal and was very much looking forward to a day of pampering before my wedding. I called a month in advance to book an appointment and was told that the next available appointment is in May of 2012 - 13 months away. Ridiculous. I'm requesting a refund from Living Social.

Later...
Just an update... after reading extensively about this problem online. It appears that Living Social didn't properly cap this deal, and 5000 of them were sold. (More than the salon could accommodate.)

Still, I would encourage the salon to explain the situation to buyers, retract the deal, and have Living Social refund their money, rather than trying to fulfill the 5000 appointments. Because they're not able to keep up with the demand, they're providing bad, unfriendly service and their reputation is just getting worse.

I got this deal from Living Social, and was all excited about having a me-time. It's a Tuesday 12:30pm appointment, the place was not busy at all, but the girl at the front desk simply told me to sign in, no how are you, or hi, or have a seat . She made me feel so unwelcome, and I started to have a bad feeling about this. The mani/pedi was so so (would not pay for their full price), after the service I was told to come back after 30 min for my hair treatment because the hair stylist needed to pick up her kid. After I came back, the receptionist didn't bother to tell me my next treatment had changed to facial instead of hair, and after waiting for 10 minutes, when I finally asked how long do I have to wait, she then replied the facial lady is pretty fast, and another 20 min passed, Ithen finally got my facial/wax, The lady was nice and friendly, but the treatment was not. Upon completion I was told I have to reschedule my massage because the theripist had a emergency. It's not like I have nothing to do, my husband took a day off to take care of the kids so I can enjoy the spa. Anyhow, my last was hair treatment, the stylist didn't even bother to greet me and was talking to other people while I was waiting and then just told me to follow him. While he gave me a sloopy wash and conditioning; his "regular price" customer was ready for his service, he told me to wait. So there I was, sitting and waiting alone with my wet hair laying on the sink. An assistant finally came after god knows how long to finish rest of the job. I was relief to get out of there, I've
been to Salon 505 long time ago, but it was nothing like that. Not only I will never go back to Salon 505 again,I'll make sure my family and friends won't either. It's a horrible experience, and a waste of my time, and I am calling Living Social to get a refound.

Why did I not read the reviews prior to attempting to use my Living Social Coupon on my birthday? I was given a spa day coupon for my birthday which I booked 3 months in advance. It was a special deal through Living Social and required that I pay 15% gratuity when I booked the day. My gift certificate was for 1 hour massage, 1 hour facial, manicure, pedicure, Hot Paraffin Foot Treatment, Deep conditioning treatment, blow out and lip or brow wax. I arrived 15 mins early and was taken to get my facial. Upon completion I was told it would be another 45 mins before my next appt. I then returned for a mani/pedi. When this was completed, I was told to sit and wait on the couch. After waiting over 1.5 hours and 20 mins before closing, I inquired as to how all of this was going to be completed prior to closing time. It was then the receptionist informed me that they were short staffed and would not be able to complete the additional services. However, I would get my hair washed. When I explained that I had taken off the day for my birthday and this was a gift, the response was, "just call the coupon place and they will give you a refund". I asked the receptionist why she would let me sit in the salon for over 2 hours and never inform me of this was met with a, "I was told everyone was called yesterday and informed that we would be short staffed". However, she did not ask me that when I arrived all excited. I will request a refund of every dime paid to salon. This was a scam and I honestly felt like they were hoping I would just leave. I am also going to file a complaint with Living Social and the BBB. This salon was just awful and ruined my birthday. I will NEVER stray from Viva Day Spa again, they are worth every penny you pay and more.

I bought a spa package from LIving Social to go to Salon 505. After 2 consecutive days of calling and emailing, I was finally able to get through to talk to someone. I was then told that I could call back 2 months later and try and make an appointment. The receptionist was not even sure they could get me in within the next year. Luckily, Living Social refunded my money. I would suggest anyone who is having the same trouble to email Living Social. I will never go here that's for sure!

I had a gift certificate there. Have been getting pedicures regularly for 15 years. The one I got at Salon 505 was literally the worst I have ever had. Glad I didn't waste $50 of my own money.

Basically all she did was paint my toe nails. She hardly scrubbed my feet, barely touched my cuticles, rubbed lotion on with the same intensity that I do myself when I get out of the shower (absolutely NO massage), I was done in half an hour. She spent more time fixing the polish on my toes (going back over the sloppy mistakes with remover) than she did anything else. Don't go here.

If I could give zero stars I would, save for the fact that the service I received was very professional, timely and relaxing. All of the employees that treated me were efficient and polite. KEEP READING...I purchased the "deal of the day" from Living Social and got a 1/2 day salon package for $99. Sounds awesome, right? While enjoying my relaxing afternoon, I overheard two separate sets of employees complaining. They stated that the owner has forced them to agree to take only $10 per person (that purchased the deal of the day) for each service, instead of splitting their commission 50/50 as usual. To top it off, the employees were told that they were NOT ALLOWED TO ACCEPT TIPS. Unbelievable. The Salon 505 sold 5,000 deal of the days @$99 each, do the math that's $500,000! When you call to book your appointment they won't book you unless you pay a PRE-GRATUITY fee of $67.50. Note again that NONE of that money goes to the hard working employees performing your services. Think about the other people that weren't forced into paying the "pre-gratuity" and will tip 20% on the full amount of salon services. That's about $100 per person, times 5,000. That's another $500,000 with no tips to the employees. What a horrible way to run a business. Think again about how they will be able to accomodate 5,000 potentially new clients with unhappy employees, those that stay anyway. When they change their policy I will gladly go back and personally hand all 4 employees who helped me today their well deserved tip. They can take my $20 voucher towards a future visit and tip one of their employees (yeah right). I will never go back until the management makes their employees happy!! After all, the potentially unhappy employees are the ones providing your service tomorrow and the months to come. Want them happy or angry when they're doing your massage, facial, etc.?

I hate getting my haircut, but I always look forward to going to Salon 505. The environment is refreshing and all the employees are extremely nice and make you feel like your at home relaxed. Like every other business, it seems as though the staff has shrinked, but the stylists that are there are top notch. Niki, my stylist, always knows the right things to say to cheer me up. She has an enticing energy about her that just makes you want to be happy! No matter what kind of day I am having, I always leave Salon 505 with a smile on my face, and a perfect cut.

This business is absolutely one of the best upscale salons in Austin! I've been going to Nikki at Salon 505 for years and believe she is one of the best colorists I've ever seen! I can't tell you the number of people that ask me "Who does your hair?!?!?!", and "Where do you get your hair done?!?!?!?!". Seriously - They're amazing!!!!!

Although I have been going to Salon 505 off and on for many years, my experience there has gotten tremendously better over the past 6 weeks. It is my understanding that the salon is now under new management. The atmosphere has changed and although the staff is smaller than I have seen in the recent years I have attended there, they all seem to have great attitudes and smiles on their faces. The department staff has always been extremely talented, but now, I guess with new management, they all seem to be happy and cheery and I leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. I have read past reviews about Salon 505, but all I can say is I would try it again because boy have things changed there!!!!!!

Pros: TALENTED STAFF!

Cons: hidden location

.

Horrible, were unorganized they were not able to handle a big group. People that worked there were nice, management rude, unprofessional, they tired to overcharge us by charging us for packages vs. Individual services! They were not honoring their specials. Do not recommend it!

I wrote a review about Toscha Reynolds at Salon 505 in the arboretum. i forgot to put in the number of star ratings. So, Im back to say there are many stars but Tosch shines brightest. I got the best color and highlights ever! She iis very talented and outspoken. I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. some stylists are very quiet..Toscha is a sparkplug!
I've already recommended her to 7 friends.

Toscha is a an artiste especially when it comes to hair & color. She took one look at my over processed hair and created the perfect cut & color for me. I was feeling so hopeless about my hair and when I left I felt beautiful again. She gave me a Christmas miracle! I am now ready for all the holiday parties and have a renewed self confidence.

Cons: Wish there were more Toscha's in the world

I went because I was given a gift certificate. From the moment I walked in the door it was a bad experience!
The front desk girl was extremely RUDE, definetly was not made to feel welcome at all (I was later told she is the owners daughter). The massage I received was okay, but not great for the price. If you are looking for a relaxing spa & are going to spend money, look elsewhere!

Rebekah has been my stylist for over 2 years at Salon 505, but is no longer there. I called to make an appointment and the front desk was unprofessional and would not tell me where she went. I see that other clients were able to find where there stylist have moved to. Crossing my fingers that somebody has found her! Please let me know!!!!

If you're anything like me - you love your hair cuts and color with Miranda but maybe not love the salon experience at 505.

Good news - Miranda has moved to a cute, new salon in Northwest Austin. I've been to see her and enjoyed the same great hair experience without all the salon drama.

My rating is certainly based on Miranda and her professional abilities - not my experience with Salon 505!

I visited Salon 505 for the first time and received a manicure and pedicure from Becky, and an eyebrow wax from Kathy. First, I was very put off because I waited for over 15 minutes to get in for my first service. What did I make an appointment for if I was going to have to wait THAT long? I understand that clients come & go a few minutes late and that really backs up the day, but if I'd arrived 15 minutes late, surely I would have paid a fee or not been seen at all or both. Kathy did a wonderful job on my eyebrows, but spent the time talking about how I should see a dermatologist, get facials, and start working on my skin etc. While I appreciate suggestions, it seemed entirely inappropriate since I was only getting an eyebrow wax.

I called on a Friday to schedule a Tuesday appointment and was told that the earliest available appointment they had for that day was 1 pm - on a Tuesday?! I called back today (Tuesday) to schedule a Friday evening appointment for another mani/pedi and was told that the latest available was 3:30. Mind you, they're open until 8 on Fridays.

I didn't dislike the salon, but with the late start, inappropriate suggestions, the PRICE (almost $200 for salt manicure/pedi, french manicure polish on hands only, and eyebrow wax), and the fact that it's impossible to get into this place, I'm already looking for some place new. The hassle just isn't worth it.

I am not sure why there are bad reviews here... but I did notice they were a while back. I have been to Salon 505 recently. I had a wonderful experience, had my nails done and a massage, it was great! For the holidays I bought several gift certificates for my friends and family and the ladies who have visited so far were impressed.

The salon is not good b/c they wouldn't give me the forwarding information for the hairdresser that I love.

Does anyone know how to get ahold of Ana Rodriguez?

She is awesome, and apparently she doesn't work there anymore. I hope they didn't withhold my info from her.

Wow, what a place, if you like bad hair, mean people, and bad attitudes than this is the place for you. First off, I paid a fortune and got something I didn't even want. Management is so bad there it is amazing they are still in business. I have heard from other people to stay away, but I was drawn in by the fancy building. All I can say is just read the reviews and decide for yourself. Also it seems that the good reviews are written by employees, they are always recommending themselves as good stylists, which I heard management makes them do once a month. You will notice that all the good reviews come around their meetings.

I have never worked at a place with so many problems, first off there was never any inventory and we were told to lie to our clients about the color we used. The Westlake location shutdown after failing to pay 6 months of rent and didn't inform any employees or clients until 2 days before. We were told to type positive reviews by management at every meeting just to fend off the complaints. STAY AWAY!!! some staff members are great, others are just plain terrible, i wouldn't take my chances.

I get my haircut by Jessica, and she is absolutely awesome! I have gone to Jessica off and on for years (I live in Houston now so it is a little more difficult to get my hair done in Austin) and I have always had great results. She also recently did my hair and makeup for my wedding, and I couldn't have been more pleased. My makeup looked flawless and my hair looked fantastic. I highly recommend Jessica at Salon 505!

I cannot brag enough about Maureen. She is the best aestician I have visited. Not only is she skilled, sanitary (unlike others at the same salon) and by the book, but she is also very sweet. Great conversation makes you forget why you are there and that it should be hurting and she does her best to make sure it won't. She is always on time and very professional. I have recommended her to all my friends and everyone is in agreement. I do not believe that I would return to Salon 505 otherwise and I intend to follow her wherever she goes.
Thanks for being so awesome!

I've just returned from Salon 505 with possibly the WORST haircut in the history of bad haircuts. I look like Baby from Dirty Dancing, which would be awesome if this was 1982. The stylist refused, point blank, to give me the color I wanted, telling me that my 'awful' hair would not be able to take the bleach. She then continued to tell me how horrible my hair was and that the first thing she thought was 'Oh my god, what a mess'. What the hell?! Who says that to a client, regardless of what their hair looks like?!

I SPECIFICALLY asked for the following things:
- To bleach my hair out and go red - she refused to do this.
- I didn't want too much length taken off - she cut a good 6 inches off the back and left the front long. I have very curly hair, so this just looks terrible.
- I told her I need to be able to tie all of my hair back for work - She cut the back to less than an inch long, and the front to about an inch too short to tie back.
- I asked for a short, stubby, rockabilly fringe. She cut a 2" wide section of hair in the middle of my forehead as my 'bangs' and called it good.
- I asked for my very thick, very curly hair to be thinned out to take some of the weight off. She cut my whole head of hair in one big bubble shape, then diffused it (as if it wasn't bad enough already). I now look like a poodle.

But wait, this is the best part: When I told her I didn't like it, she got downright rude, saying that she thought it was a cute haircut and she doesn't know what I was complaining about. I informed her that her opinion was not the one that matters and I that I wasn't paying for it, at which point she started hurling expletives. I left in tears.

Put quite simply, DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. EVER. Any salon that has this many bad reviews, as well as obviously false statements from staff members and warnings to stay away from ex-staff members should not be even considered.

I just went to Salon 505 for the first time today. I got a haircut from Jacklyn, and it is fabulous! My hair was a mess, flat, split-ends, you name it. It had been probably six months since I'd gotten it trimmed. Jacklyn did a great job with it, kept it long like I wanted and gave me some great layers so it has a lot more body than it did before. I don't think I've ever been this pleased with a haircut before. In addition, everyone was very nice and I got called in almost as soon as I sat down. I really recommend this place to anyone!

I received a gift certificate to Salon 505 so I had an excuse to pamper myself. I went online to check out the prices to see what 50 bucks would get me. I thought the prices were high but I figured it would be worth it. A French manicure was 35 and I was expecting a detailed spa experience. To be honest, it was nothing different then the 12 dollar one I usually get. And the 12 dollar one feels good and looks great. I could have done the french that they gave me. My manicurist even looked at her job and praised herself. I would have been more upset but I wasn't paying for it. I thought no one acted professional or warm. I did not feel welcome at all. My manicurist was very sweet and fun to talk to but it stopped there. With those prices I really was expecting a nice experience. Not to mention it was 51 degrees outside and they kept opening the back door, close to where I was sitting and it was freezing. They did not ask if I wanted water or anything. Poor quality of tools as well. I was extremely disappointed and shocked that they are still in business. With the left over money I bought nail polish because I will not be returning. I want to go to a place where I will feel comfortable and welcome. I don't mind paying the money if it is worth it. Unfortunately this establishment is a disappointment and is stealing people's money.

I LOVE this place. Give yourself extra time if you are coming during lunch and especially during christmas time. It's in the Arboretum! I'm sure any other time of day or any other time of year it is much better though. ANYWAY! I saw a stylist by the name of Zena and she did a fantastic job. I have had this same hair style before, but she executed it so much better than any other stylist EVER has! It is fabulous! I am so excited to go to christmas parties now, I know I will look great and it is all thanks to Zena. THANKS!!!

I could write an entire paragraph about how absolutely horrible my experience was, but i'll just give a few bullet points.
Receptionist was rude & unattentive, talking to coworkers entire time
Appointment was very late (35 min)
I noticed that other clients' appointments were late as well
Actual salon needs some cleaning attention
Stylists aren't as good as they need to be for the money
My stylist (Xena) tried to force me to try highlights (I have extremely dark hair, which I love)
Stylist was rude and snobby
Manager came over and berated another employee right on the floor, EXTREMELY unprofessional
Tried to talk to manager about experience, but conveniently wasn't available
Still has not returned my 3 calls

Hi everyone I work in a salon myself just checking up on other salons in different cities . I guess people just do not understand what goes on in salons. For the person who said people dont visit the salon every week,Yes people do visit a salon one a week if not more . Some people yes I know are not wealthy enough but guess what some are! And for the person that said they had to wait for the apt. you have have got to understand that people show up late and for the ten people that a stylist may see in a day something may go wrong so calm down. Im sure everyone tries to keep the situation under control but sometimes there are just some things that just happen at the last minute. And guess what people find that they have to make a big deal about it. I deal with this all the time and the clients that give me a hard time as these few people have . I fire them . And yes you can fire a client. I am from LA so I wont try and bring you over to my salon.

My wedding is coming up so the day I got my bridal portraits done I decided to do my trial make-up and hair . I wanted something simple for my hair and thats what I got but I absolutely loved my make-up . Miranda was so cooperative with all of my must haves. My fiancee could not stop saying how beautiful I looked. Miranda did an outstanding job. Thank you if you read this before I come in for the Wedding!

ok so I am not at all the person to go to a "day spa" but I was in the area for ice cream and decided to stop in. I needed a haircut big time but was real nervous to let just anyone cut my hair. They have a level system here which was something new for me but I ended up with lowest level. They said it didnt have much to do with experience so I was relieved. My stylist ended up being a sweet girl she listened to everything I said and went from there. My hair looks great everyone at work and my girl friends are wanting her cards.

I would like to inform people out there that this salon is not the way these immature women make it out to be. I thouroughly enjoy my visits to the salon. As usual these women try and find something to complain about. They have nothing better to do. If you would like you can listen to the other what did she say ? 50 comments that are posed on here but the fifty out of hundreds of customers that see 505 are just looking for something to complain about. Its almost upsets me that people that enjoy the visit dont rave about it. Dont miss out ...You will love it!! have a great day

**UPDATE** I recently got my hair cut , after a bad experience at Salon 505 (see below), and my new hairdresser said I had one of the worst haircuts she had seen in a while. It took her a lot of time to fix it, and this reaffirms I'll never go here again. **** I went to Salon 505 for a cut after its recommendation by a friend of a friend. I had seen the salon while shopping at the Arboretum and thought it looked very nice. I should have done some more research. When I arrived for my appointment, I learned that I would be seeing a different stylist, which wasn't too bad, just a little annoying. Miae came out and was, I thought, dressed unprofessionally in such a "high-end" salon (trashy looking tank top, nearly see-through white capris, and white platform flip flops w/sequins on them ... not what I expect from a professional). We sat down and before I could say a word about what I wanted, she went off about how my natural hair color is so boring and how I HAVE TO get highlights (which I don't want ... I like my haircolor). When we finally got to talking about the cut, she kept talking over me and not listening at all. I tried to tell her that I was wanting to grow my hair out, but needed to get the layers reshaped and my bangs cut. She berated me for wanting my hair all one length, which I never said. She just didn't listen. When she washed my hair she splashed water all over my face and down my neck - really irritating. As she cut, she worked so fast, that I was almost scared to watch. She did a half-ass job of styling it when she was done, and I found out it was because she needed to go pick up her car at the shop. Turns out I actually got a decent haircut when I came home and styled it myself. But, when I go to a salon, I expect to be pampered and treated with some common respect. I'm giving it 2 stars because the haircut is ok, but I would give Salon 505 no stars for service and professionalism. Listen to the 50 other bad reviews on here and keep looking!

Pros: Good location, ok ambience

Cons: Rude & unprofessional stylists, over-priced for the service you get

When I went to Salon 505 I was very disappointed. The receptionist was very nice, however, that is where it ended. I had made an appointment for a cut and highlight. The stylist was very late for the appointment. I really find this very unacceptable. When I make an appointment I really expect it to be kept within 15 minutes or a half an hour at the most. I waited for quite some time at which time my stylist finally met me in a pair of worn jeans and a t-shirt (when did high school go to the upscale salons?) she then proceeded to try to get everything together to complete the job, including find some kind of a mobile tray (it seems there are not enough for all of the stylists and they have to move them around the salon) and then she finally was ready to go. As I was sitting there I was noticing that there were a large number of light bulbs out at the makeup station, there was hardly any shampoo at the wash station, and on and on. The stylist was pleasant once she got started, and I don't know who it was that fumbled the scheduling, but it's hard to get beyond that once you start almost an hour behind. When you are paying those kind of prices you expect more than that. The manager was walking around the salon, she appeared very grumpy, not smiling, or talking to customers or stylists, and I really felt badly for the stylists. It seems that maybe the problems begin at the top, I don't know. (just an observation...) Maybe she was just having a bad day, we all have them, I know. The stylist did do a good job once she got going. This was my first visit to the salon, and it seemed overpriced. I feel badly for the young lady, she seemed to be trying very hard.

I have just recently moved to austin and chose to try salon 505 to help achieve my new look. I was not able to get in right away but got a reservation for a few hours later. As I walked in the door the receptionist (3 of them) greeted me . The stylist did a wonderful job on my new style. Will for sure return.

Just to let guests know, there is a autoclave that is used at Salon 505. They are following all of the new laws that have been mandated by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

i had read that it is now texas policy that all spas HAD to autoclave their utinsils. it seems that this is not the case here. when i booked the appointment, the airheaded receptionist GUARENTEED me that there was an autoclave i could see before i had my pedicure. if you've ever seen any dateline-type show on spa sanitation, and seen what can happen when they are not properly sanitized, you'd understand my OCD. when i arrived, i was not greeted, which i can deal w/. however, when i again asked about the autoclave, the front desk girl reassured me they did indeed have one. when i was taken back the nail tech (who barely spoke english), i asked if i could see how they sanitized their utinsils, and was shown a bottle of liquid that they said they put their utinsils in. this is hardly an autoclave. i refused to have a pedicure unless i could see an autoclave, and then asked to speak w/ a manager. the manager was mysteriously "unavailable, in a meeting w/ the owner," how nice. i then made the mistake of asking the same incompetant receptionist if there was a number i could call to make a complaint, like a board that issues sanitation laws, all she could give me was a card w/ the manager's name written on it so i could call and complain to her. i've tried to get a hold of this manager 3 times, and will now be calling another salon to book an appointment and see if there is someone i can call so that this business cannot continue to run until they have met proper sanitation guidlines.

I am writing this review to tell people out there that there really are guests who had great experiences. My name is Jen and I do not work at Salon 505. Last week, I went in with the intention of cutting off 10 inches of my hair. I have been going to the same lady since I was 15 (I am now almost 22) and I have never gone to anyone else. But, she lives in Dallas, where I am from and I am not due to visit the rents until the last week of August and I could not wait. IT IS TOO HOT! Last time I cut off more than 6 inches, I cried. So you could imagine my apprehension. I got a young woman named Randi (although I saw her name up at the salon as "Miranda") She did an amazing job. She knew how nervous I was. She even told me it was ok to cry, and if I changed my mind last minute it was okay. She did not put my hair in a pony (like so many others do to traumatize me) and just let it hang loose and cut it. I had brought in a picture I liked of Nicole Ritchie, and though she said if it was what I really wanted she would be happy to do it for me, but suggested some changes. My hair is much thicker than hers, and more wavy. She described the best she could as to what would look the best on me. But, she said, whatever I wanted was my choice, she only wanted to make sure I knew what kind of upkeep I might be getting into. I looked at her and told her to do what's best for my hair. Even her coworkers helped her decide what cut would best frame my face. The outcome was amazing! I didn't cry (surprisingly) and every person that told me not to cut off my long thick hair, ate their words when they saw it. It is everything I could hope, and the upkeep is low, like I wanted for summer. You can bet I will be going back, to Randi (or Miranda?) I give them 5 stars!

i wish the staff at salon 505 would stop creating false reviews. it is obvious that zena prob isn't the best at highlights if she has to say so herself, also who comes to a salon once a week? these reviews are obvious free advertisements. i wish i could just hear reviews from customers so that i know what is going on. it just makes the salon look that much worse that they have to write false reviews because real customer's reviews are so terrible.

These reviews are just so funny to me. I go to salon 505 every week and know most of all the employees. There is not one hair stylist that is right out of school. They have all been doing hair atleast two years some of them have even 10 years of experience. I have never once had a problem with the front desk. The girls that are there now are some what new but do as much as they can to have everything running as smooth as possible. I highly reccomend salon 505 !!

i am a former, though not disgruntled employee, of salon 505. i left bc of the many problems this place seems to have, and i thought i might simply warn any future clients. the staff isn't exactly wonderful. there are several employees currently taking illegal substances, former strippers, and one receptionist that is a former "call girl" (all these tidbits of info were told to me personnaly by the employees themselves). stylists are CONSTANTLY quitting, which makes it hard for loyal customers. also, many times, the front desk doesn't seem to "feel like" calling clients and telling them that their stylist is sick/quit, and simply waits until they come in to try and get them in w/ another stylist. most employees hired there are straight out of school, and only about a fourth are in any way competant. management is uninterested in listening to customer complaints and usually tries to justify the poor service. for whatever reason, the receptionists are extremely poorly trained, and often misbook appointments, as is stated in almost every review. and finally, just before i left the salon, our manager had a meeting in which she told all of the employees to write their own good reviews in order to attempt to push all the negative ones down. i left the salon on a fairly positive, but i would never want anyone i know to make the mistake of trying to have a good experience here.
