Great choice of meats and cheese. Staff there are friendly and knowledgeable. Price is a bit high but the quality you get in return is well worth the money. T-bones are as thick as you can afford, the cuts are precises and they'll have all the answers you need regarding to the food you are buying from them. they'll even through in some good suggestions on cooking as well.
Throughout my World Cup Food Challenge, I searched high and low to represent some of the odd countries less known for their culinary endeavors. Thanks to Pete's exotic meats, I was able to find kangaroo and throw it on the Barbie just in time to watch Australia lose.
If you Google "eating kangaroo" you'll find everything from information on how eating them will save the polar bears to the entire world and likely just end up giggling aloud at the word "kanga banger." Needless to say, it took quite some time to discover our local 'roo importer.
Since Kangaroo is an extremely low fat, high protein meat (you've seen how they jump!) we soaked it in oil for a few minutes before searing on a hot cast iron pan. Carefully salted and peppered, we also opted to slightly bread the 'roos so as to further retain moisture and add flavor.
An adventurous and well-traveled omnivore with a resilient stomach, I'll try anything once - and I've eaten it all from bull's testicles to a Kenyan churrasceria style feast that ranged from Hartebeast to Zebra, and the kangaroo filets neither impressed or appalled. While I'd love to save the polar bears, so that perhaps one day I can try eating one of them too, I will take Texas beef over 'Roo any day.
If feasting upon the loins of adorable marsupials fails to entice you, Pete's offers a fantastic selection of more conventional meats in their old school butcher's repertoire, but if the exotic calls to you, I recommend the ostrich.
Pete's fine meats....and deli is so awesome! you go in and you notice to your right, sodas and other stuff like sauces and junk. To your left....THAT's where you want to go. you see the thickest, reddest, most amazing looking steaks and meats you've ever seen. Its crazy...then if you keep going left, you'll find the little "restaurant" part where they will make you the best burger you will have in houston. (as far as i know) The bacon burger is.....sooo good....dare i say even orgasmic? so yeah get it. Also get one of those fancy looking cream soda/root beers they have. the place is on richmond one or two lights away from sage. (if you're heading away from the galleria) Enjoy!
Pros: REALLY GOOD burgers. Amazing looking meats. Pete.
Cons: They turn off the grill at 4.
I like going to Pete's for lunch. The steak tacos and steak hogies are my favorite, but everything I have had has been good.
Great beef jerky, and the Pork and Alligator Sausage was fantastic
Pros: Steak Tacos
Not really a restaurant but it is ok for a quick lunch
Sausage not consistent....they come packaged all different lengths. In addition, they do not use freezer paper to package the sausage. They come packaged in a clear plastic bag with the end taped. Not good for storing for long periods of time. Had to spend $60 more to purchase freezer paper online and repackage myself. For the same sausage and amount/pounds they cost about $20 more than Midway in Katy and that does not include the $60 cost for the freezer paper. Not impressed by their service at all from customer service to the overall experience.
Pros: Location
Cons: Poor packaging on deer sausage
I honestly have to say this was one of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had. The meat is thick and full of flavor. The steak hogies are also excellent. In fact, anything I've ever tried here is great! Try the deer jerky too! I come here often for lunch and I have yet to experience the more exotic meats.. but it would be a shock if they were anything less than satisfying. Just give it one try and you'll be hooked.
Pros: Always fresh, has a very laid-back atmosphire
Cons: Nothing.
Where else in Houston can you drop a deer off for processing, grab a great Buffalo Burger , and take home some great cuts of meat , all in the Galleria area????
Petes is a Houston landmark, and the family keeps it going that way every day.
Pros: Awesome Burgers, Great Cuts of Meat
This is absolutely the best meat market in town. If you haven't tried Pete's Meat Seasonings you don't know what you are missing. You can get the cut of meat you want, have it seasoned right there (at no additional charge) and all you have to do is throw it on the grill and it always comes out tasting perfect. And I love the variety that Pete's has, the hand made sausage, bacon, hormone free chicken and any cut of beef you can think of. Mike also does cajun fried turkeys that are the best. And he has a great little deli with fresh made burgers and sandwiches. This is one place everyone should try.
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
This place has the absolute best cheeseburger in town! It isn't on the menu, but just belly up to the counter and ask for the bacon double cheeseburger. You can eat that with a great side and an old style root beer.
Pros: Cheeseburger
