Ratings_icons LOVE Dr. Gully

Annette D.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Gully for 20 years and have NEVER had a problem. The office has always been very accomidating and I have never experienced anyone being rude to me or mistreating my animals. I will continue to bring my pets to Dr. Gully for as long as he is in operation!

If you must take your pet to Gully Animal Hospital, DO NOT see Dr. Gully. I would advise that you only request Dr. Williams or Dr. Franklin, they are both fine veterinarians (I have never met Dr. Sweeney, and therefore cannot comment on her care). Not only is Dr. Gully rude with a horrible bedside manner (that is, unless you're chummy with him); but he also has some serious temper, and has, at times, taken this out on the animals he treats at his clinic. I have witnessed this on more than one occasion, his temper presenting itself in the form of what I would deem physical abuse towards his patients. I will warn against one other thing, no matter which vet you see at Gully's, if your pet is in a critical condition, DO NOT HOSPITALIZE THE ANIMAL OVERNIGHT AT GULLY'S. If at all possible, I would HIGHLY suggest having your pet transferred to a clinic that can give 24 care, such as I-20 Animal Medical Center or Airport Freeway Animal Hospital (both AAHA accredited). Gully Animal Hospital does not have any employees on for the overnights, so if anything change in your pet's condition overnight, no one would know until the morning. Also... DO NOT bring your pet in for surgeries at Gully Animal Hospital. I will say nothing on the skill of the veterinarians, because even Dr. Gully is a fine surgeon if we speak only of skill. However, Gully Animal Hospital DOES NOT keep a proper sterile field while operating, and anesthetic monitoring is mediocre at best. I do not believe that every last patient will experience problems with the anesthesia or an infection after surgery, but I DO believe that this is a terrible standard for them to keep and does place pets in harm's way needlessly. For the same amount of money or less, you can take your pet to an AAHA accredited practice where you can be sure of sterility and monitoring practices. One last thing... I would like you all to know that I am not employed by any of the aforementioned emergency veterinary clinics, nor am I affiliated in any way with AAHA, the American Animal Hospital Association. I am just a CONCERNED PET OWNER and would like to share this knowledge of practices and standards with you, especially if you care for the well-being of your pet.

Ratings_icons Very nice, sweet

Kathaleen B.

I am only 15, but I've always had at least one or two dogs or cats living around. In my 15 years, my family has never taken our pets to a vet. Crazy, huh? Well, a few months ago we found a cat in our pond and I decided to be the caretaker. Recently, she has gotten really sick: vomiting, loss of appetite, everything. I was so upset! I begged to take her to the vet, and I took some money and went alone. The place was beautiful, the people were very nice, and they took good care of my cat. The medicine for my cat was way out of my budget, but Mr. Roy found a way to work it into what little money I had. I will definitely take my cat back to the Gully Animal Hospital.

"From a behind the scenes perspective, the prices are what they are because Dr. Gully has more diagnostic and updated equipment than alot of other clinics"

Hahahaha, you have OBVIOUSLY never worked at another clinic, Gully's equipment is SO outdated. You may want to look at the equipment other clinics have before you say that.

I too am a previous employee, and I have to say it is ridiculous what bitter ex-employees will say. I worked at Gully's for several years while I was in school and left to pursue my career goals. I have never witnessed any wrong doing nor any animals being mistreated. I still bring my animals to Gully Animal Hospital, and could not imagine taking them anywhere else. From a behind the scenes perspective, the prices are what they are because Dr. Gully has more diagnostic and updated equipment than alot of other clinics. There are alot of clinic referrals to Gully Animal Hospital because of the care they can provide and the hours they provide.

I am concerned about some of the reviews here. I cannot even imagine a facility still being open after these ridiculous claims. I agree that disgruntled employees surely found this site.

My dog gets all her care, exams and grooming Gully Animal Hospital and I have never had a problem. They are loving and care for the pets they see.

The only con is that they are a little pricey but I am willing to pay a little more for the care of my loved one.

Ratings_icons It's very true.

No T.

Even though you may have had great customer service with the doctors and staff at Gully, does NOT mean that your animals are being treated well. I am also a previous employee, by choice. Gully is by far one of the worst places I have ever worked at. They are not an AHAA hospital, and it does affect your pet. Very unsafe behind the scenes, reusing of medical equipment that should NOT be reused. Just because they are so cheap, and charge the clients so much. Doctors are very rude, don't pay attention to their hospitalized patients, and have thrown animals down in their temper tantrums. I will NEVER take my animals here again, and will NEVER refer anyone to this hospital. Please just understand that a lot of people have hired in at this hospital and quit, when they realized how inhumane the staff is. (Primarily the doctors.)

I have taken my animals to quite a few vets throughout the years, and I will have to say, Dr. Gully's group ranks #1 with my "family". They have very friendly people up front and technicians are just as friendly. The last time I was in, one of my dogs was starting heartworm treatment, and the doctor spent a lot of time answering my questions about the treatment itself. I really appreciated the extra time involved as I was very nervous about the treatment and left feeling more reassured.

(The negative review written earlier must have been written by a bitter ex-employee as I have never seen evidence of anything mentioned going on in the 3-4 years I have been bringing my animals in.)

Ratings_icons Disturbing behind the scenes...

Not only does Gully Animal Hospital treat their employees without respect, Dr. Gully does not treat the animals with respect either. Watch out if you decide to leave your pet there, keep your fingers crossed that Gully doesn't touch your pet. I have witnessed him throw employees and animals around, in fact on one occasion while I was holding a dog for him, he got fed up and hit the poor thing right in the face, so hard that it knocked both the dog and myself on the ground, and when (surprise, surprise..) the dog ran off into the break room, Dr. Gully started screaming and cursing at all the employees to go get the dog. Very, very unproffesional and extremely unethical. I held out with my employment there for a little bit longer, since we were told that the clinic was going to be "experiencing some drastic changes" and that we were going to have a new office manager. Well, if it was even possible, things went from bad to worse. The new office manager, Clint Wolverton is unbelievably rude and unprofessional, and has NO experience in the veterinary field!! His only concern is getting things through collections, and I have ZERO respect for him. The clinic re-uses fluid lines, and does not follow aseptic technique very well, and also does not monitor pets under anesthesia satisfactorily. Please do not bring your pets here, I say this after realizing what a terrible place it is. I am now employed by an AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) accredited veterinary hospital, and I can now take pride in my job, and I now have respect for the Dr's and office manager for adhering to protocols and practices that are truly beneficial for the animals that visit. Oh, and just a tip, you can go to www.HealthyPet.com to find ANY AAHA accredited clinic or hospital in the nation.

Truly, heed these warnings, this clinic is not safe.

Because of my line of work, I am constantly moving around the country. I have visited numerous vets from coast to coast, but have never experienced a better clinic than Gully Animal Hospital! The doctors & their staff are incredible with their knowledge & professionalism. I know that they take great care of my dog, Lilly, when she boards there when I'm out of town. The groomer is by far the best ever. The overall experience is top notch & I highly recommend the clinic to everyone!!

I have brought a few of my animals for the past 6 years to Dr. Gully. They get you in the same day and take great care of the animals. When you love your pet and want the best care, you don't mind that the fees are just what they are!

I have taken my dogs here a couple of times and let me tell you, they charge way more for there sevices than other vets do. Not to mention that they forgot to give my dog all of her annual vaccinations when she stayed overnight at the clinic. I will never take another pet here, and would not refer anyone either.

Ratings_icons The Best Vet in Town

Richard W.

My pet skunk Petunia opened the freezer door and ate an entire half gallon on Peppermint Ice cream (Blue Bell). She got quite sick until a chunk of peppermint got lodged in her stopping the flow. Horrified I took her to Dr, Gully. He soothed my nerves and dislodged the candy painlessly. within 3 days she was 100 percent. With a pad lock on the fridge life goes on for the two of us.

Dr. Gully is the best,

R. Wood

Someone recommended Dr. Gully's office to me when my dog injured his leg. They worked with us to try to find a different solution other than surgery. When that didn't work, they did an awesome job on his surgery.

Before finding this vet, my dog would whine like crazy every time he was in the car. He was a complete wreck, totally not like his usual self. I boarded him there one time and now he wags his tail like crazy and can't wait to get in the car. I'm not sure what they do to him when he is there but he sure does come back spoiled! I wouldn't go anywhere else if I need a vet or to board my dog.

Ratings_icons Ex-employee myself, mixed feelings.

GStriker

Yes, yes... I myself am an ex-employee of Gully Animal Hospital, like so many others. I'm not going to totally rag on the place, but I do agree with some of the significant statements below. Some of the practices are unethical (physical treatment of animals.. but I have to say, its not like every animal who enters the place is abused. But I have seen it happen more times than I think is OK. (which is zero times)

I also agree that an AHAA practice is the way to go. Because: AHAA has set standards of patient care, medicine, sterility, housekeeping/cleanliness, ethics, and more. Its like they do all the research you can't do yourself, and prove it for you with regular inspections and reviews of the clinic by AHAA officials.

I do know that Gully A.H. reuses some medical supplies/equipment that are intended for one time or one patient use (yes, the fluid lines; and things like surgical gowns that are intended to be disposable- [they do autoclave them, though this is still not ideal] ).

As for the office manager being rude, that was probably said because he tends to show severe favoritism among employees. But he does seem to be nice to clients (whether this is genuine or sucking up, I don't know).
One thing I CERTAINLY agree with from that long review is to NOT leave a pet hospitalized overnight- mostly b/c there aren't employees overnight, and pets- just like people- deserve 24 hour monitoring and care if they are in a critical condition.

One awesome thing about the clinic? Grooming. Brandy (one of the groomers there) has been grooming for a long time, and she is just simply one of the best groomers there is! (Need proof? try to make an appointment... just be sure you do it weeks in advance, cause she'll be booked quite far out) I have never known Brandy to accidentaly cut a pet when grooming (unlike the Petsmart groomers... Sorry Petsmart); and all of her clients simply rave about her.

So, about the clinic on the whole- Here's how I feel:
Yes, you can get better care for your pets at other clinics, you can also get worse care for your pets at other clinics. Yes, the prices at Gully A.H. are a little bit higher than other general practices, and I'm not quite sure why- at least when I was working there the diagnostic and treatment technologies weren't horrible, but they certainly weren't great. I do hear they now have digital X-Ray, but I'm pretty sure thats about as far as the "cutting edge" goes. Gully's is fine for vaccines and treatment of common pet maladies, but don't hospitalize a critical patient there.
Do try to have your pets groomed there.

Well, Thats about it. Hope this helps!

Pros: Availability of appointments, grooming.

Cons: Well, See below.
