response to Don't Waste Your Money
by carol s.
Sewing is a skill like carpentry or being a chef and a fabric store is a speciality shop pretty much. Being someone who has no idea how to sew and going in without a friend who does is like going to Home Depot and wanting to build a deck with no building experience or knowledge and expecting them to walk you through and teach you how to hammer. Most people male or female in a fabric store know what they want and enjoy browsing and do not want to be interrupted. If we have questions we know what we want to ask the salesperson. Anytime you are attempting a new skill it is a good idea to bring someone who knows what to look for. I sorry you had a bad experience for your first time

DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY!!
by Jason P.
I just read all your reviews and I have to disagree. I am a guy and I wanted to learn to sew some costume for my 3 kids. I asked where the costume patterns were and an employee said in the corner of the store. (OK....really, which corner?) after a few seconds she pointed in the direction. I found a table full of books so I sat down and started scanning through them. During the 15 minutes of searching I saw 4 employees walk by and never ask if I need help. I found one pattern and it said 6,7,8,9,10. OK I thought that was ages and not dress size (which I just learned) I took them to the front and told them I was making them for my 2 daughters, this was my first time trying to sew and what kind of material did I need? The key words was "FIRST TIME TO SEW" hello was that not a hint. I took them back to my store which is located in the same shopping strip as them and showed the pattern to a friend and they laughed at me about the sizes telling me it was for full grown adults. I took the patterns back less than 12 hours and they tell me no refunds or exchanges on patterns. I told them I never opened the pattern she repeated ( it was like a recording) no refunds or exchanges on patterns. I got the cold shoulder from them, they wouldn't even try and help me find a new pattern that would fit my kids. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE TO ANYONE JUST STARTING OUT OR MEN.

Every friendly staff
by shirley t.
I am learning to sew and I have received alot of help with "what I need" The staff is friendly. The selection of prints is wonderful. When I got to the cutting table, I have been reminded of things like "you know this might shrink" I have called for an item and received immediate assistance. I am looking for a Wool Comb and was hoping someone would have it but no one does, but atleast your store looked. I drive from Arlington to visit Hancock.

Hancock Fabrics

My first visit to this merchant. Although the amount of merchandise I wanted to purchase was minimal (<$3), a customer service representative cheerfully listened to my and spent ten minutes showing the selection of merchandise available. It is very gratifying to find a local merchant that understands who is the customer.

Most of the sales people also know how to sew and can give you ideas about fabrics, threads and patterns. They have a pretty good selction of drapery fabrics and fittings. They carry lots of patterns and have classes for sewing and using new store bought machines purchased at Hancocks. Good parking and near a large grocer.

Don't forget to look here for art and craft supplies, they have a great selection. They also have a nice store and a very good selection of fabric, ribbons, trimmings, etc. They are helpful if you have sewing questions and are willing to work with you on returns if you didn't get the right thing the first time.
