Primitives Furniture & Acces

As a design professional I always make this a "must stop" when looking for that one perfect piece for a client. I've purchased many items from this store for clients and they've all been great quality and unusual design - plus, the sales staff (I usually work with Travis) is fun, accommodating and knowledgeable.

Furniture: Good selection, lots of rustic pieces, high quality, well built, accessories to match, high end pricing. Wait for a sale to get best price or keep checking back monthly. Can have a pushy staff...depends who you talk to..

I have bought several large pieces at Primitives and have always found their staff very helpful and the furniture quite unique. I'm thankful to be able to find such quality furniture and glad that I can buy it from a local family owned business. I will definitely purchase more in the future.

After looking at many "traditional" furniture stores with overpriced junk, we ended up finding the perfect dining table here for much less than we expected. We wanted solid wood, unique, and not too formal. We found the perfect end chairs, though pricey. Travis (great to work with) found our less expensive side chairs, let us try one out at home before purchasing, and they arrived early. We get compliments on our set all the time! We will definitely be back!

I purchased an entertainment center from Primitives and when I got it home i soon realized it was too big for my space. This was my fault, not theirs, however, when I called to ask to exchange it for something that fit they said "No". I was pretty surprised as I wasn't asking to get a refund just an exchange. My husband called as well and spoke with the manager who was fairly ride to him. He said it was our fault so no exchange. When you are spending $2000+ with a store you would think they would be willing to make their customers happy. Oh well, they lost a repeat customer for sure.

My husband and I purchased what we were told to be a one of a kind Armoire from Primitives. We spent our honeymoon money on it, thinking we were buying an heirloom piece. We still like it, but have found many, many like it at other "Old World" furniture stores in Austin. Most are at least half the price. I also distinctly remember an almost snooty saleswoman telling me about a tapestry being hand-made by a group of nuns in Italy. I turned it over to see a tag stating "Made in New York". I didn't have the heart to tell her, but instead let her continue on making up such an inventive story. They do have some neat things, I just don't think they are original and with some savvy shopping, you can find almost identical items in town for half the price.

This store is full of beautiful one of a kind furniture. I have never seen anything like it. But more importantly the staff is so helpful.They came to my home and measured my space, they helped me pick all of my accessories,rugs,helped place all my furniture and even made suggestions for colors to paint my rooms. The staff at Primitives not only met my expectations but exceeded them ten fold. I would recommend Primitives to anyone and everyone!Beautiful furniture, helpful staff, and low prices!!!!

I special ordered leather sofa, chair and ottoman with this company and was thoroughly pleased. Salesperson was very knowledgeable and order arrived on time. The sofa and chair are highest quality leather at a good price. Most importantly, they are oh so comfy!

My wife and I went here when we were looking to replace our living room furniture. They had really nice quality made furniture here. The people were really nice and described how the furniture was made and which piece was made better etc. Their prices were reasonable and they kept the place very clean.

Furniture promised in 12-14 weeks arrived after 20 weeks, and many phone calls. The furniture delivered was not the high quality promised and had many defects (confirmed by Primitives' staff).
We'd already committed to having the unit, paid interest on it, and purchased other furniture to match. We requested that Primitives refund money to recoup repairs we would have to make. We offered to repair it ourselves. Declined. We requested that Primitives order replacement doors for the warped ones. Declined. We requested compensation for the lost interest paid and time spent dealing with the issue. Declined.
Primitives verbally offered a store "token" for $200, which does not go far in that store. The sales manager never provided documentation or tangible validation of the credit. Later, the sales manager stated that the "token" was only $150, an indication that there was never a true record of it. Primitives offered to refund the original amount of the unit, but offered no compensation for the lost interest paid, nor the 4+ months of time and effort spent dealing with the situation. Also, the sales manager said if we took the unit refund, the store "token" would be revoked.
Primitives then promised to replace the unit with a new one on the next order from their vendor (now 5+ months after our original order). During the next 3 months, we called for updates and got conflicting information from the store representatives. Multiple times we were told that our replacement unit should be at the store this week or next week. Twice we were told that the delivery truck was at the US border, in customs, and should arrive at the end of the week. Only once during this time did Primitives phone - to tell us that the truck was in customs and the unit should arrive in Houston at the end of the week. None of it was true.
Repeated requests to contact Primitives' owners were denied. No one at the retail stores, nor the corporate office would provide contact information.

PROS:
CONS: Non-existent service; no accountability; dishonest; overpriced

Really great stuff here. Sort of eclectic, old-world inspired mixed with a splash of contemporary design values is how I'd describe their selection at this unique spot.

This store is out of our price range, however we still love to browse their vast collection of unique furniture and accessories. The sales people are always pleasant and not pushy. If you are able to afford higher end furniture, this is an excellent business to fill your home with fabulous and unique decor.
