Brian I.: The Kennel is a training facility that promotes responsible pet ownership. Owners wife checked in their #120 lbs. German Shepherd for the first time and did not reveal any attack training history. It took 20 minutes and senior staff to move the dog from a play yard to a secure run without getting bit. Because the behavior of the dog was extreme, we immediately called the owner and asked for more information about their pet. Owner said his dog was attack trained a long time ago. We explained that his dog was behaving aggressively. We explained to the owner that his dog would be safe and secure, but we would not be doing any playtimes or bathing during his stay (neither of which is required). Owner chose to leave the dog for two weeks. When owners wife picked up the dog, she was told that we could not provide any future services due to our non-aggressive policy. She was also reminded of the liability and courtesy to share information about the dog with other pet professionals.

Unfortunately my German Shepard is a regular at kennels across the country. I have never had a worse experience in her 9 years of life as I did here. She was punished for being Shitzhund trained and left in a run for a week straight. Her kennel was washed and sprayed down while she was in there being covered by her own feces. The kennels understanding of higher training is an embarrassment to all dog owners. The more training a dog has the better control you can have over them. Absolute worst care she has ever had.

Thank you for everything you did for Mike. I brought him for daycare a couple of years ago as an act of desperation while I got the bathroom remodeled. Mike needed to stay out of the way while the contractors worked. I remember he came home the first afternoon and just crashed. I felt so guilty, but when I picked up his leash the next morning and said ??let??s go? he jumped up, ran to the back door and pointed at the door knob! He couldn??t wait to go, and I couldn??t remember the last time he was so excited about anything. Then, I noticed changes in his personality over the next few weeks. He seemed more cheerful and outgoing. When the bathroom was finished and we stopped coming, he seemed depressed, so I brought him back twice a week. You gave him something to look forward to, you helped him adjust to his ramp, and you probably extended his life expectancy. So, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I live in the city with a small back yard. Country Acres is huge with acres for my dog to run, play and go swimming. He comes home as tired as I do. I gained weight on my trip... I think Shiner lost a little... We will definately be going back.

This is a family owned/family run business, and the owners are extremely involved. I truly get the sense that they care about your pets because they care about their own. From calling around to check prices, this place does seem to beat those of other local kennels. The runs and pens are nice sizes, and the areas in which they have to run and play are just unmatchable - huge. I'm sure a lot of kennels only offer walking for potty breaks, so I don't mind paying $5 extra for 2 hrs of play time. Not to mention the amazing grooming deal that you can add on. It's almost worth it just for the grooming savings. I'm about to board my dog here for the third time because of our good experiences. Their are kennels much closer to my house, but I drive out of my way for this place.

Our 2 year old Golden Retriver has stayed a few times before, but last week she was there during the big freeze. After the second day, I was certain she was safe and happy and quit calling to check on her. When we picked her up 6 days later, we were given two pictures of her playing in the snow with other dogs. I should have known they would have a snow party - they have a dog party for everything!

When you visit this establishment make sure you look at everything very very carefully. Look behind all the closed doors.
Remember the saying "doen't believe everything you hear and only half of what you see". Listen very carefully to the words that are used in your conversation. I too had a pet die at this establishment during the spring of 2010. My dog was 9 year old standard Schnauzer that had just been to the vet prior to her visit and the vet said she was in perfect health. I should have realized when I saw dogs standing in water in the kennel runs that this was not a good sign. To many times we humans forget that our pets are one of our family members. Do not be fooled

Just wanted to let people know that we are very pleased with CAK Services. We went to Puppy School at the facility. We then boarded out Lab for the first time, when we went on vacation for a week in July . He was really tired when he got home and I was wondering why, if he got enough sleep, if he was too freaked out, he is only a puppy. Well, I took him back this week for day care becuase it was flooding and we lost electrcitry and I got my answer. He has never gotten out of the car on his own, We have a high SUV, and we were worried that he was wimp or that he was afraid of heights . We pulled up to the facility and he leaped out the car without missing a beat and wagged his tail. He pulled me into the office and knew which door to go back in. He was so happy to be there. When we picked him up at the end of the day, he looked like a kid that had gone to camp for the day- He was exhausted and dirty, just the way you want them to be. THANKS.

I have taken my two dogs (one small and one large) to the kennel now three times over the summer. When I first called and they said that I problably couldn't keep my dogs together due to their size difference I was disappointed, but they encouraged me to go and take a tour to see everything. It is set up great for my dogs' different sizes, and I know they have had as good a time as I have on my trip. The dogs actually get excited in the car when we arrive. Thanks again, and look forward to seeing everyone again next year.

I am a single guy withe a dog and a crazy schedule and I love this place! They have everything, know everthing, and always steer me in the right direction regarding what my dog needs. I also appreciate how they always get us in with little or no notice due to my work schedule. They do advise, and we all laugh about needing reservations on holidays. This really is a great dog place.

I've boarded my dog here 3 times, and will continue to use Country Acres.
The place is clean, the service is great, and the staff really cares about your pet! The cost is reasonable - actually it's very good considering the care my dog gets! My dog loves it there.

When it was cold, I asked if my JRT could be brought inside if the nightime temp got below 40, and they did it! When it was hot outside, they have mister systems to keep the temperature reasonable. Because JRT's are rather active, she gets an extra one-on-one play time for a very reasonable price.

I appreciate the fact that they require current vet papers to make sure my dog isn't next to a sick dog with something contagious.

I highly recommend Country Acres to anyone that wants to board their dog!!!

Our one and only experience with Country Acres kennel.
We got Jojo from a rescue shelter 6 years ago. He had been found in a junk yard with his left eye mangled. His eye was removed and the lid sewed shut. When i saw him, he was shivering, scared and trying to be brave. I took him and he was the sweetest dog, he just wanted to be close to you. Just with his look you knew he loved you. Two years ago, he got very sick and almost died and was diagnosed with Addison's disease. To live he would have to take a steriod shot every month and Prednisone if needed, he has done well since.

Needing a kennel for my two Chihuahuas, i searched the yellow pages and internet for locations. I visited a number of kennels and thought the La Pitite Class for puppies under 20 pounds sounded like a good program. More freedom and social interaction with other dogs. Tour and paper work were done for a 13 day visit. I talked to staff about symptoms that would require prednisone if needed, the instructions were written down. While we were out of town we called and were told the dogs were doing fine. We got back in town and called to let them know we would be picking them up that afternoon. I arrived about 4:00 to 4:15pm and was told that they were doing great until about 20 minutes ago when Jojo became listless and not as responsive and had been vomiting blood "approx 1 cup". I went back and he was laying down and would not respond to me except to follow me with his one eye. I was told he had been given Prednisone but they couldn't get him to eat or drink. She said i needed to get him to our vetenarian but he was out of the office on Thursdays and i asked if there was another Dr that could see him (not knowing that area) i was told it would be best in this circumstance to go the the emergency clinic in Fort Worth, i knew that i had to get him to a Dr fast. I was told to pay my bill and she would get Jojo in his carrier and ready to go. The clinic (in rush hour traffic) was 40 minutes away. I was scared and drove ther as fast and safely as i could but it was too late. He had quit moving around about 5 minutes before we arrived and was pronounced dead upon arrival. I was devestated that i could not get him help in time. Later that evening i began to question some things that happened at the kennel. After a sleepless night i called the resident manager to get some answers, she did answer most of my questions but i was shocked at her answers. I asked her if there was a closer clinic to the south Arlington location and she said they did occasionally use one on I-20 "which is only 10 to 15 minutes away. I asked her why she sent me to the clinic across town in Ft Worth and she said it was because i live in Ft Worth and this would be more convenient for me if they had to keep Jojo overnight. I did not care about convenience, i needed urgent care for a dying pet. I also asked her if she had realized how ill Jojo was but she said she would not answer that and told me to call their vet. Now with sorrow, questions of why i wasn't sent to the closer location for help or why the Dr was not called when the vomiting started. Her answer to that was that i was on my way pick him up. I realize that Jojo has addison's disease but had been doing well the last 2 years with proper attention, now we will never really know why he died or if he could have been saved if we had gotten him help sooner, but i would have liked the opportunity to try while there was still hope.

On my 2nd visit to fill out papers we were told that they were experts at assessing the animals needs and would do what was best for them. Sorrowfully i do not think this was done in this emergency situation. Yes, this is being written by a devestated "mommy" to my precious Jojo whom i miss so much. But i do have some comfort in knowing he knew his "mommy" came and got him and tried to get him help and was beside him when he died.

I regret having to write this, but i believe it needs to be told.

This place is horrible. They keep dogs outside during the blistering cold-- even during the snowiest winter in recorded DFW history.

When I questioned them, they said, "Oh... they're dogs. They're built for that."

Not if those dogs are used to being inside all the time. The owners who keep their dogs at the outdoor kennels might as well chain their dogs in their own yards when they're gone.

I should be fair and say that when I moved to Arlington, I was used to taking my dogs to a luxury dog boarding facility. This is NOT luxury dog boarding.

They are stainless steel kennels that they spray out with water hoses. (The indoor AND outdoor kennels.)

You have to pay extra for them to take your dogs outside the kennel just ONCE a day. Otherwise they're stuck in that sad, clinical, stinky kennel 24 hours a day. Poor things!

I'm sure a lot of people don't mind if their dogs are in kennels like that, but my dogs are my kids, and I will never go back to this Kennel.

(PS: I've noticed Country Acres gets really defensive on their replies. If I operated this place, I'd be defensive too. They're going to say that they urge people to tour their facility before taking their dogs here, blah, blah, blah. I DID tour the facility, but I didn't know I had to pay extra for them to spend time outside the kennel until I got there. Then it was too late. It was either cancel my vacation or pay a lot extra to them to treat my dogs to outside time.

They'll also say I should have read their signs talking about how much play time is, or something like that. To that I'll say: THERE ARE 100 SIGNS AT THIS PLACE! I'd spend 7 hours walking around reading all their signs.)

Do yourself a favor. Don't take our dogs here if you want to get what you pay for. It's a huge facility and they have a lot of capacity. Do you really think your dog is spoken to at all while they're there? NO. There are too many dogs there for your dog to get individual care.

I have taken my dogs here after trying several other "full service" kennels in the area. None of them have the space to let the dogs run like this kennel does and they get the outside excersise that they need to be healthy. The staff here is very dedicated to the dogs and really know each and every dog that boards there.

Country Acres is class act. I have been using the daycare, boarding and training services for nearly three years. The facilities are excellent for my large dog who gets alot of excercise with large play and training fields. They are strict in regards to vacinations which protect all the guests. The kennels are always kept clean. The staff are professional and very helpful especially for a new dog owner. The best testament to CAK is Duke my lab / dane mix who gets excited when we turn down the lane to the club and drags me in the front door. Thanks to CAK for adding to the quality of life for both Duke and me.

I have heard great things about this Kennel, and was very excited to board my dogs for the Holiday, even though it was obviously overpriced. Imagine my surprise when I was told that the Kennel would not "allow" me to board my dogs there unless I came, at a separate time without my dogs, during very specific and limited business hours, to take a tour. I would also be "required" to come by ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS so that I could drop off the dogs' medical records. As I was not able to do this (because I have a JOB) , I was not "allowed" to board my dogs there. For those of you who are looking for a convenient option for dog boarding, this is NOT it! If you would like to be interviewed and jump through hoops for the pleasure of overpaying for boarding, then have fun, and don't feel like too much of a sucker. After all, County Acres Kennels is doing a FAVOR FOR YOU!

I board my dog there as well as having sent him through the training program and I believe that this is the best care there is anywhere in the country. I have boarded dogs at other facilites as I have moved around the country and have found Country Acres to be the best. Unlike a lot of other Kennels where you drop off the pet at the front desk, they have an open door policy and encourage you to see where your pet is boarding and the activities that they participate in.

I noticed that during a consultation with a trainer, how demotivating she could be. She was absolutely greedy. I am not sure if this kennel is bad, but certainly, if they have such employees (Trainers) who are rude and so very sales minded, it anyways creates an impression for the kennel. My experience was negative with this lady trainer who mentioned that I either get involved with their most expensive program or find a new home for my dog. She also mentioned that my dog is coming with a package of bad behaviours. Well....she fails to understand that my dog is 3 months old and is still in the puppy stage. "No dog is bad" Very important is that we dog owners go for training since we need help in raising the dog to be a member of our family and not to get demotivated or to get ripped off. She had no manners and was taking advantage of me being the "first time dog owner"

I was not much of a dog person until after my daughter wanted a rescue puppy, I decided that we needed training for our new dog. We heard about Country Acres Kennel from a friend who was very impressed with the training. We enrolled our Border Collie mix (Lucy) and my daughter into Junior Training classes. I have been very pleased with the results. My daughter has learned how to properly train a dog. Lucy has learned to be a very delightful companion. She went from trying to herd us by nipping at our hands and running over us to sitting and politely waiting for us to play. We have received so many compliments about our dog Lucy's behaviour that we cannot count them.A year later, my daughter ended up working for the kennel. She has reported that the facilities are always cleaned and disinfected. every day. The owners of Country Acres Kennel are meticulous about the care of the dogs and the treatment of their employees.Once at the holidays, I had mistakenly thought that Country Acres Kennel was open to check in for kennel reservations when they were not. If I was not able to check my dog in, I would have missed seeing my son who was in the military. I called the owner and she made an exception and allowed me to check my dog in early on Sunday morning despite not officially being open. This is a really great place to train and kennel your dog.

We took our German Shepard to Country Acres for basic obedience class and and it worked out great. We also take Lily to Doggie Day Out there about once a week and she really likes that! It is a safe place for well behaved dogs to play with each other. Country Acres is a good clean professionally run facility.

We have taken all of our dogs to Country Acres over the past 13 years and we would not go anywhere else. We have done boarding, puppy classes, doggy daycare and basic obedience training. The staff are friendly, knowedgeable, professional and obviously love dogs. Because of the training the staff have done with our dogs and us,we have dogs that are well socialized and well behaved. We recommend Country Acres as the place to use to anyone who asks. This is the place for boarding and training your dog.

I have taken my dog here for years and can tell you that the management and staff have always been professional and open in their handling of the animals. The entire facility is aways "open door" and they welcome any of us to tour the grounds at any time. I have recomended them to my friends and they have sent their friends there as well with good results. One of the better features is the fact that, unlike most of the "9 to 5" kennels, the management at Country Acres is on site and always available for the dogs first. I would not leave my pet anywhere else!!!

I use to work here and if it weren't for loving employees your dogs would never be taken care of. They bathe outside in the winter, the 30 min playtime's are 5 mins if your lucky, employees don't get a lunch, when you leave your dog there they think they have the right to hit them with a rubber hose (any extremes necessary). I just want your dog to be safe!

Business Response:

That's A Lie! We have checked the personnel files and this person "Mary J" has not worked for the kennel ever. In addition, we are one of the few boarding facilities in the country that insists the owners go with us to put their dogs in and take their dogs out of runs. We have capacity for over 300 dogs, hence, owners are constantly in the kennel. We insist new customers take a tour, hence we have new customers in the kennel daily. Playtimes are either 15 minutes or 2 hours in duration. We do not offer "30 minute playtimes". As for the "no lunch" and "rubber hose", I will attest that this is a lie. Unfortunately, the reviewer was probably the ex-employee we fired for dereliction of duties. We expect a lot from our employees and they will be let go if they cannot do the job. Fortunately we have some employees that have been with the kennel a long time, one for over 20 years and another over 10 years. I would invite "Mary J" to come forward and tell us her real name and motivation for this contemptuous review.

I started bringing my dog here when I moved to Texas. In a few short weeks they were able to help him, and me to become trained and obedient. He no longer jumps up, runs away etc. The training was intense and interactive and continues way past the class you paid for, as they say it's a lifetime committment. Since then my dog (and me) have some much fun that we go there for daycare, or just to visit almost everyday.

I left my dog there for 21 hours and had to pay for two days. Since I was picking them up during their normal busingess hours I found this excessive They also require that you pay for a nasal spray to prevent kennel cough when mine had already had the shot at the vet. Only $5 but double the cost since he had already had it. They are a good place in a pinch but really do way over charge for their services

Business Response:

Policy Clarification Let us clarify the written policy for Country Acres Kennels that EVERY customer reads and signs. The kennel has a 2 day minimum boarding requirement. If your pet was boarding at the kennel for less that 48 hours, you will be charged for 2 days anyway unless the dog was at Day Care (12 hours). We also require intra nasal Bordetella every year. The subcutaneous (shot) vaccination is only good for 6 months and takes longer to be effective. The intra nasal vaccine last 1 year. We set our vaccination standards based on veterinarian recommendations and vaccine manufacturers data. The safety of the pets is foremost. We sell the intra nasal Bordetella and teach owners how to do this themselves at cost ($5). We hope this clarifies our policies.

Where do you want to leave a member of your family? This is the place. They take the best care of your families pet and offer other services like doggie spas and more. I highly recommend this place, but they are kind of hard to find. They also offer training.

They offer training for competitions and regular training. They have a very nice kennel facility if you need to leave your animal. The training is very good and they only use positive training techniques. They also offer extras for your animal like the spa treatments and more.

This place was recommended to me by a family member and I was glad that I checked it out. They have training, boarding, and more. They are competitive with their rates, but I liked the people who worked with the animals. All the employees seemed professionally trained. I have not used the training, just the boarding and was happy with that service.

We had a great experience w/ Country Acres Kennel last summer. I felt very welcome and not rushed when asking questions. I left my 2 dogs there for about 2 weeks, and upon returning, my 2 dogs looked like they had been pampered and loved. The workers there said goodbye and told me how much they enjoyed them there!
My only complaint is that they dont allow different visiting hours. Some people's work schedule may not allow visits during that time. CAK is very reasonable and cheaper than any vets or kennels that I have been to!

CAK is definately on my list to do again!
Thanks!

PROS: cheap, friendly
CONS: limited visiting hours

I brought my dog here, last minute due to a family emergency. The took care of me and made it extremely easy to get registered, handled my questions about shots. It allowed me to handle my personal emergency and not to have to worry about
