The Scene
While "fish house" conjures up an old-school establishment ladling out bowls of chowder and platters of cod, this place is a different kettle of fish. Sushi and other Pan-Asian delicacies prevail at this humbly hip Japanese eatery. Younger scenesters and boomers both come for the serene setting (muted lighting and Zen-like decor), perky waitstaff and the clever, pun-laden menu.

The Food
Lurking behind jocular names like Dumb and Dumpling, Some Young Guy and Thai Me Up is some seriously appetizing food. Sushi and sashimi enthusiasts enjoy the reliable array of seafood treats, including such novelties as sushi pizza and crispy baby octopus. Blue House also shines with other options, like a wonderfully piquant chili-and-lime beef salad, a radioactively spicy shrimp soup, and for the vegetarian, a tofu steak slathered with a wasabi-mayo sauce. Finish off with a cooling dish of red-bean ice cream.

Key Points

  • Lunch specials
  • Try our "Spicy Escolar Roll"
  • Catering

The Inside Scoop

  1. Parking - It shares a small lot with the popular Hobbit Cafe. When full, try your luck on the streets behind the lot.
  2. Save Money - Don't miss three-course lunches starting at $5.95.

Blue Fish House is Outstanding

by Patricia A. | insider Insider | Rank: 13,115

This place is the perfect place for sushi. It's small and cozy. They are having anniversary prices and what a deal! Everything about it was great! Everyone in my party left satisfied and full! We will keep returning.

Good sushi, decent prices

by Edward S. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 6,794

Not sure about all the negative remarks for this place. I've enjoyed eating there every time I've gone. It's a nice, quaint restaurant with good sushi for decent prices. Service has always been attentive and respectful. The sushi has always arrived in a timely order and made to order. I've never had a bad experience going there. Good date spot as it is small and quiet with charming decor. One little thing about the place. The restrooms are located outside of the eatery and down towards Hobbit Cafe. Could be a good thing though if you think about it! ;)

Blue Fish Sushi Restaurant

by Rachel G. | insider_expert Insider Expert | Rank: 3,628

Very cute little setting next in an older looking building with a fun atmosphere next to the Hobbit cafe. Sushi is very good but a little pricy-prices are probably comparable to Miyakos

Blue Fish House 2 in Sugar Land

by CathyF

They have the best sushi that I have had since living in Northern CA. My friend and I kept ordering and ordering-everything was so fresh. The ambiance was cool and calming. I will be back!

Pros: Delicious!

A Favorite and Reliable Place

by CSMobileUser2

Food is great and service is always great. I've been to this place a lot, and I haven't experienced any of the negative comments left by others. Nice atmosphere and solid dishes. They also don't frown at special requests, which is refreshing. The prices are good, and they are far lower than other sushi places in town. Excellent variety of sushi and specialty vegetarian dishes. Very pleasant dining experience each time, and I've been to Blue Fish more than 50 times.

Fabulous sushi & friendly service!!

by ssmatsu

This is by far one of the better Japanese restaurants in town. After reading many of the other reviews on some of the other Japanese restaurants people are to easily fooled by the word "japanese restaurant". They rate them high not knowing the difference of bad and then good. Blue Fish House has better food than most of the others in town. The sushi & sashimi are very fresh and has a good flavor with good consistency. The rolls are very creative, huge & tasty. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food.
All in all though, well worth trying and enjoying!

Pros: good food & service

Cons: parking

terrible sushi!

by Tuper

This restaurant serves low quality food. The owners are not Japanese, so don't expect good sushi. The miso soup was too salty, without scallions, and with very few tofu and seaweed pieces, and a bad fishy aftertaste. The shumai (shrimp dumplings) are bland with low quality frozen shrimp, the dough is too thick, and the dipping sauce is too vinegary and overpowering. The veggie dumplings are even worse-- thick dough wrapped around mostly cream cheese with a few veggies. Who ever heard of a dumpling stuffed with cream cheese? The sushi fish is not very fresh, dry on the edges, and low quality. They do not have anything special sushi fish, just salmon, tuna, etc (no fatty tuna or marlin or any other delicacy). The sushi fish was so terrible, you can get better sushi for less at Whole Foods. The california roll is also terrible, and not at all what is usually is. There is hardly any avocado in it, and the crabmeat is actually mostly cream cheese with a few chunks of crabmeat so it looks like a tuna salad. The menu did not mention cream cheese in the CA roll! This place gets 2 stars instead of 1 just because the food is edible and won't make you ill you, but it's so tasteless that I can't recommend it and I won't be going back.

Cons: terrible sushi

Great little sushi bar!

by sakedog

Seems like there is an aweful lot of sushi bars in Houston that are more concerned with being trendy and not really about the food this is not the case at Blue Fish. The sushi is fresh and the rolls are different with a nice Thai twist. It's not a place where you can be in a hurry but really I don't think sushi is a thing for people with not a lot of time to eat. It's been my favorite spot for years and I will continue to return. As for the service yes there are times when it's a little slow but if you are not an uptight american and relax a little then it will be all fine. I would recommend that everyone go. They have a wonderful cooked menu and a huge vegetarian selection which can be hard to find at a sushi restaurant.

Pros: great sushi, diverse menu, original sushi rolls

Cons: parking can be hard to find

Decent Food, Poor Service

by Tetraowl

Food was decent for a sushi restaurant, although there are much better (and slightly less expensive) places in Houston. The atmosphere was casual and almost coffee shop like as it is one large room with a small sushi bar in the back.

The downfall is the service. We had to take our water glasses up to the service station for refills. Once our check arrived, we waited 30 minutes before walking our credit card up to the service station and asking to have the bill paid. Although they were busy, it is not that large of a restaurant, so I find it hard to understand how their service can be so poor.

Horrible

by toughatm

Tonight was a first for me. I have never in my adult life given a $0 tip but that is exactly what I did tonight. Typically, if service is decent and I see effort by the staff I tip at least 20%. I will not bore you with the details but lets just say I felt like I had to wait on myself(going back and forth to the wait station).

This place came hightly recommended but between awful service and mediocre sushi I do not see how they have such a solid crowd.

Pros: none

Cons: all

Cute, fresh and affordable

by LauraTheExplorer316

This is by far the best sushi place I have been to in Houston. I have never had a bad meal there. The Deep Fried Madness Roll is to die for and they have the best salad dressing. It's a very cute, clean restaurant but nothing fancy.

Pros: Great food and price

Cons: None

good sushi but service is terrible

by 3750

I really like the sushi here which is why I've gone back so many times but I've got to say that the lunch service keeps getting worse each time. Either they do not hire enough staff or their wait staff is just incompetent. Sometimes they don't check back with you to see what you need or you have to ask for things multiple times before you finally get what you need. On our last trip there, we arrived at 11:30 and the restaurant was almost empty yet it took over 45 minutes to get our very basic sushi order. We had to ask the waitress and manager several times. they barely apologized and said they would give us a discount on our bill. Their big discount ended up being about $1.50 - next time don't bother. I think its time to find another lunch time sushi spot - we've given Bluefish too many tries to get it right.

Pros: sushi

Cons: service & poor management

Good stuff.

by belmontranchtx

I am by no means a sushi connoisseur, but this place is great. I had sushi before coming here, but was never a big fan. I'd go if other people made plans for it. Blue Fish stood out in taste and quality and made me want to go back for more, which I have. Several times.

Pros: reasonably priced, great taste, ambience

Cons: infrequent beverage refills

Second time in a row bad service.

by mjsmjs

About 6 months ago we had a terrible experience here: incredibly slow service, main courses served 30 minutes apart, and an absolutely uncaring attitude. At the time I posted a Citysearch review.

I finally agreed to my wife's request to give it another try since the food is pretty good (for a low-mid range place), it's reasonably priced, and our 3-year-old loves the miso soup and agedashi-dofu. And, YET AGAIN, they failed: my main course arrived 20 minutes after my wife's and, despite repeated questioning, no one seemed to care or have a reasonable explanation. There are just too many good restaurants in Houston to patronize a place like this.

Pros: Diverse menu, good food for price.

Cons: Atrocious service.

Best of the best!!

by sslover

This place is the best sushi I ever tasted the service is great and fast, the sushi is prepared quickly than any other sushi place where it takes 20min for one order. The place is amazing although the space is limited the ambience is relaxing and casual. The sushi the "Deep-fried Madness" is my alltime favorite.

Pros: Fresh & resonable price food

Cons: parking lot

Good Sushi, Crappy Service

by kmact

The sign on the door says open until 9:30pm. We walked in at 9:05pm. I've worked in restaurants before, and I understand that a good pre-close can get you home much faster than a poorly executed one. We sat at the sushi bar as they were breaking everything down, and I asked politely "Can we still order?" Expecting a "Sure, we still don't close for a little while, etc, etc." the guy said "Yeah, if you order now." I thought that was extremely rude and then I felt I was rushed through my entire meal. I can eat average sushi anywhere, so If they don't want my business then I won't give it to them.

Blue Fish has THE BEST SUSHI!

by tpare

We go to Blue Fish regulary for consistently good sushi. Crazy Ocean Roll is always on our order and if we seem to have a little room left we will order a second. Or third.
Occasionally we will try a new/different sushi restaurant and while most have one or two good selections of sushi, Blue Fish is always really good.
Vicki, Bob, the guys behind the sushi bar and everyone else are always very welcoming.

There is only one negative - the parking lot.

Pros: The fresh sushi

Cons: The parking lot

Service Needs Improvement

by Cycling4Fun

After reading such wonderful things about this restaurant, we went for lunch on Monday. They were not too busy. The food looked good as we passed other customer's tables. The disappointment was in the service. Our waiter just never seemed to come back once the drink order was taken. We had to ask another waiter to handle our table. He even disappeared. The food was okay - except for my seaweed salad which had a fishy taste for some reason, stopped eating that. Was looking forward to finding another great sushi place in Houston since I already have several other favorites - this won't be one of them.

Pros: Atmosphere

Cons: Parking, Wait Staff

THE BEST SUSHI

by moni1996

I at least dine here once a month or maybe a couple of times. The sushi is super fresh and the super white tune tastes like silk. They some really good and creative rolls along with a whole menu of other fantastic stuff. Their entrees are huge portions. You have to try to wasabi shumi (shirmp dumplings)....the sauce is great. They are reasonably priced and its so worth it. The problem is the parking on Friday or Saturday evenings. If you want a spot get there early or you will be driving around and waiting for a table.

Pros: Fresh Fish

Cons: parking

Great Sushi and Great Prices!

by mari6625

WOW is all I have to say. I hadn't been to Blue Fish in about 3 years. We just stopped going when they were doing the renovations and didn't even know it was open again. I went during lunch and they have the absolute best prices in town. Not only do they have the best prices but their sushi is so fresh. I am a huge sushi eater and have tried many different places. This is now my #1 sushi spot in Houston. The service was fine. Not exceptional, but what exactly is exceptional? They took our order, brought it to us on time and were attentive enough. I will def go back again.

Pros: Cheap lunch and regular sushi prices, fresh fresh sushi

Cons: parking is a little bumpy, but no big deal really

Great sushi!

by txbrowneyedgirl

I never really ate sushi before but I met some friends at Blue Fish one night and tried a few pieces of their Philly roll. It was delicious and I've been eating sushi and going to Blue Fish ever since! My favorite is their Blue Fish eye roll and their Crispy roll. Both have tempura which I love. The Philly roll and Deep Fried Madness are great too. They also have good non-sushi dishes. The service is just kind of average but I've never had to wait too long for a table. They recently re-modeled the place and it's a much better use of space. Also, their edamame and tempura vegetables are great appetizers. I highly recommend Blue Fish especially to new sushi eaters!

Pros: Great sushi!

Cons: Parking is difficult

Delish!

by kilts

Delicious food, excellent place. Though I still miss the former occupant of this building (Thai Spice Vegetarian - was the only "buddhist vegetarian" style restaurant inside the loop), Bluefish is an excellent occupant of this quirky, small restaurant. Fresh sushi with fun names, the service is attentive and the place comfortable. Fix the parking lot, and I'm a happy camper!

Pros: Fresh sushi, attentive service

Cons: potholes in the parking lot can eat your car!

My Favorite Sushi in Houston

by mogckst

Over the last few months I have spent a bunch of time in Houston on business. I have been investigating Sushi restaurants as its the best thing to eat on the road. Blue Fish is my new Number 1 after trying about 6 other places. The fish was very fresh, service great, and price was reasonable.

Pros: Fresh, clean, great fish and great service.

Cons: Down town traffic

I love this place. This is a house favorite for me. I highly recommend Deep Fried Madness, the nagiri menu, and Tuna Asparagus. Amazing food, service is good, just need to do something about the parking area. My poor car takes a beating in that lot. Thanks for the wonderful sushi though, don't change it!

Pros: sushi, service, ambiance

Cons: parking

by bigtexsushiguy

OK. HERE"S THE DEAL. I eat out for sushi at least 4 times a month. I KNOW sushi. The Bluefish House is rock solid. The fish is fresh and tastes great. There is reasonable creativity in their rolls that do not overpower the fish. Been there multiple times, always a GREAT experience.

Pros: Good Service, Good Consistency

Cons: A little funky atmosphere

Sushi Lover!!

by sammietx

This was my first sushi experience and I am hooked! Our server was very informative, we ordered a couple of her suggestions and were very happy with the results. We had the Rainbow Maki, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Crab roll, Red Snapper Nigiri (delicious). Also, I ordered some of their sushi lunch special. With the quality of food & very reasonable price I would say this is the best lunch spot in town. We also tried a few cooked dishes: Teriyaki Chicken, Soft shell crab tempura and Grilled oyster. The warm sake was excellent (I didn't think I would like it, but I did). I ordered the green tea ice cream for dessert which was also very pleasing to my pallate. I was a little nervous about the whole "raw food" experience but pleasantly surprised to find that sushi is DELICIOUS! All of our food tasted very fresh, I would definitely recommend Blue fish to anyone visiting Houston (or anyone who lives in Houston) who asks "Where can I find a good sushi restaurant?". I will definitely visit this restaurant again.

One "Ex"-Loyal Customer

by krisdecuir

I must say that their designation as 'Best Sushi Place' must have gone to their head. Apparently they are no long willing to work with the desires and needs of their customers and dont' really need the business. I WAS a loyal customer for over 2 years and was willing to endure the pot-holed parking lot and below average (on some days) wait staff for good sushi at a reasonable price. But no longer!! Me and my friends were always willing to pay a bit more for some substitutions on menu items b/c we liked their combinations. However, today was a really bad experience. We were told that under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will there be ANY substitutions on any menu item even if we're willing to pay more money. I explained that I cannot eat seaweed and was told I cold choose to order 'a la cart' off the sushi menu but there will be no changes to any aspect of the menu items. I would have rather paid a bit more or seen the prices raised slightly to accomodate the needs and desires of customers than to shut us out completely. Today they lost several loyal customers not because of their food but because of the lack of willingness to work with their customers! From now one, we will chose to visit the other sushi restaurants in the area that actually WANT our business - and do have good sushi, too (Oishii, Osaka, Miyako, Zake, & Sushi King to name a few nearby). And just one NOTE: watch out for the cobwebs that are hanging on the ceiling and the tiles that are falling down on the rafters beause you might end up with an extra surprise in your food.
:-(
One disappointed ex-customer

Pros: good lunch prices

Cons: no substitutions, lack of customer service, parking lot

Fantastic sushi place,,

by mictimb

I eat here 2+ times a week and I've never been disappointed. Quality and freshness of the sushi is always high making for great tasting sushi. Presentation of the rolls is very artistic. Service is usually good, but can fluctuate, especially on weekend night, which is busy and very crowded. If you want a more relaxed experience, go on another night where you will get more detailed service. I recommend Blue fish highly and you will too.

Pros: Fresh food, great menu item

Cons: Parking, small tables

I would have to say that Blue Fish House probably has some of the best sushi in town. Although the service is not that great, the tasty menu makes up for it. The atmosphere is soothing and is perfect for grabbing sushi with your date. However I would shy away if you have a big group of friends as the inside is not set up for parties. We try out new sushi spots all the time and we?ll definitely be back.

Great Sushi

by csfh

This restaurant is SO Great! For years my husband tried to get me to go, told me how good it was, and I refused because I was set on my other places. One night we went and I was so impressed that we went back the next day for lunch! The spicy tuna hand roll is different than any I've had- it is great! There are so many unique rolls- there were few I didn't want to try. The spicy tuna hand roll and the spicy escolar roll are a must. We couldn't make a reservation and waited about 30-40 minutes for a table, but it was worth it. When we got the bill, I couldn't believe how low it was. I am so glad I finally agreed to eat here, it is now at the top of my list for local sushi favorites.

If you like thai food, you will like BFH

by stickybb

I order the hot lava which is the udon noodle, mixed vegetable in spicy coconut curry with choice of chicken or pork. The soup is so tasty with lots of chicken and veggie inside. The ginger dressing was good. Kind of surprise me for only $6.5
My friend ordered U pick 4 with spicy salmon roll and four nigiri (tuna, salmon, eel, white tuna), those fishes were comparatively big, fresh, and fatter than some lunch combination of some other restaurant.

Pros: Food

Cons: Parking, Service

Volcano roll = cream cheese and mayo roll

by pinar77

I have to be fair and say that the atmosphere was cute (the bathroom had serious sewage issues), the service was friendly and fast (granted we were eating at 5 pm), but the food?? Wow...

We ordered the recommended roll, i.e. Volcano Roll, which was comprised of the BFH special sauce (mayo and eeety bitty crab chunks) drizzled over a roll filled with rice, tempura, shrimp, and an inordinante amount of cream cheese. After that, we felt so disgustingly full from the rich roll, that we tried to find another roll that couldn't possibly have mayo or cream cheese in it. The search was in vain, as in EVERYTHING on the menu has those two ingredients in it and all you need to do is look up at the sushi bar next to the plates of fish you will find a disgusting amount of cream cheese sticks ready to be put in your sushi roll. I've had my very large share of sushi given that I am a sushi addict...but this hardly qualifies as sushi!! It's pure fat!

It just seemed that the rolls were lacking in quality and quantity of fish, and instead were comprised of filler things such as tempura, rice, and cream cheese. I was very disappointed and have never left eating sushi feeling so disgusting full and heavy. The nigiri was not bad, except that the fish tasted as if it had been recently thawed (i.e. not very fresh). The green tea was good, however, I would not return here. Sorry to say....

Pros: parking (lots of potholes though), atmosphere, service

Cons: the sushi is awful

I'd heard good things about Blue Fish House and finally got to try it. I'm not sure that it completely lived up the the expectations, but it was very good. As for the sashimi, it is fresh, delicious, and inventive. Sushi rolls are well crafted and use many unique combos. The atmosphere was excellent, very friendly service, and the sushi was served promptly. Superior Sushi, Extremely Fresh, Great Atmosphere and much cheaper than other sushi places nearby. Definitely good for take out or a casual evening out.

Cons: parking lot

The best Sushi in Houston by far

by jennint

Incredible sushi, imaginative rolls, and unbelievably good value. I live in Europe, and whenever I am in business in Houston I eat here. For someone who often frequents Nobu - I actually get cravings about the sushi in the Blue Fish House. Its that good - and for the price of one of the main courses at Nobu - I can eat a whole meal here. The Uni is in particular unbelievable. Always full, service is ok - not amazing - but it does not compromise the experience. I have taken a number of friends to Blue Fish - from Europe, NYC, and Beverley Hills and they were all amazed at the quality and ingenuity of the food. For the sexiest sushi in Houston - this is the only place to go !

Pros: the food, the price, parking, ambience

Cons: service is ok

terrible service, no qualms about it

by velvetund

while the vegetable tempura roll is amazing, the service is terrible. no one is ever around to help. i've gone there many times and they constantly seem understaffed. the excessive signs around the restaurant, conveying the many rules they have, are rude at best. the chopsticks are cheap and splinter-y. you would think they could spring for better quality chop sticks when the sushi is so incredibly expensive. with 3 people, we never get out of there for less than 60-70 dollars. not worth it. i wouldnt recommend this place unless you enjoy wasting your money and feeling less than satisfied.

Pros: interesting food

Cons: terrible service

quaint trendy sushi restaurant

by missorenishii

this is probably one of the better sushi restaurants i've tried in houston. the quality is good and there are amusing names for entrees on the menu that entices you. the unagi rolls were 10 times better than it's sushi neighbor down the street (oishii), and the salmon lover's roll (generous helping of salmon sitting on top with a pleasant spicy kick from within the roll) did not disappoint. this quaint and small restaurant provided a cozyness and laid-back ambience, unlike any of the other trendy restaurants in houston. definitely a nice find on a dominantly upper-end food scene on richmond.*

Pros: good quality sushi, trendy but quaint ambience

Cons: parking

Great sushi, NOT a fusion restaurant

by coog78

The sushi here is awesome and always fresh. Sashimi is great also. One of Houston's gems that can truly hang with San Francisco, New York or Las Vegas standards. The hot plates are tasty as well, but honestly I come here for the sushi. Having spent extensive time in San Francisco and indulging in many fusion restaurants, Blue Fish is NOT at all a fusion restaurant. The service here can be spotty, so order lots at once or don't be afraid to get their attention. This is in my top 5 sushi restaurants and I always come back.

Pros: food, atmosphere, location

Cons: service on occasion

Good Fusion/Veggie Dishes, NOT Sushi

by texas_flood

Pretty cozy place. I like the dishes there that I'll refer to as "fusion". Basically stir fries with various curry sauces, that kind of thing. These dishes are very good, and have some excellent vegetarian options that I enjoy even though I am an omnivore. I find these dishes are cooked properly with good ingredients, and are very well flavoured. As for the sushi... average. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're looking for sushi. The service could be better... I think they have trouble understanding English. They brought my mom the shrimp version of the tofu dish she ordered and didn't really acknowledge it. She said something like "Isn't this supposed to be vegetarian? That looks like shrimp!" (lol) The person who brought out the food smiled at her and walked away. The waiter didn't come by to check on us. Since my mother eats seafood, she decided not to bother. I think the happy hour pricing is good. Basically beer and sushi are cheaper... you can get GOOD beers with a discount too!

Pros: Value, some of the dishes, atmosphere

Cons: Sushi not good, staff doesn't communicate well with customers

A good place that's getting crowded.

by maureyrd

Is it good? I go at least once every two weeks or so. That's as good of testimony as I can provide. Do I have an imaculate palatte? Who's to say, but everyone I've taken there has enjoyed it as well. Honestly, I'd rather write a bad review so less people would go; it's starting to get crowded.

No, they don't take reservations, but they really can't: the place is small. Small restaurants can't risk trying to accommodate an 18-top table on its busiest night for fear the party may not honor its reservation.

The staff has always been receptive and nice to me, but I've been going for years and am nice to them. Here's a hint: wait staff are human. They're not supposed to rude, but they're not supposed to be androids either.

Pros: The staff is nice to me and the food is good, what else could I want? Not much, apparently.

Cons: No liquor license and sometimes they don't have what's on their wine list.

I've gone to Blue Fish many times and have enjoyed the food. On a few occasions, I've gone with a rather large group and made reservations in advance. So I was stunned today when I called to make reservations. Here's the gist of the conversation:

Them: "Blue Fish fish house, may I help you?"

Me: "Yes, I need to make reservations for this evening, please."

Them: "For how many?"

Me: "Eighteen."

Them: "Oh, we can't seat that many on Friday night."

Me: "Er, you have before. We've had large parties there before."

Them: "No, on Friday night, we're very busy. We'll only hold a table for up to 10."

Me: "Um, yes I know you're busy on Fridays. That's why I need to make a reservation."

Them: "No, we're very busy and don't have room for you."

Me: "I'm guaranteeing you eighteen customers, and there is room for us along the wall facing the parking lot. It has a bench seat. I know. We've done it before."

Them: "We can't take the reservation. If you show up, you can wait for a table."

Me: "No, thanks, and you've just lost eighteen customers this evening."

I don't care how good the food is. If I'm guaranteeing you eighteen customers--eighteen customers that have been there before and have enjoyed the food--and you tell me to show up and wait, you'll never see us again.

Pros: Great food

Cons: Lousy service

Poor service

by gwillhoit

Today my friend and I arrived at BFH @ 2:40pm and were told that the restaurant was closed. The reason we were given was that the restaurant always closes its doors 15 minutes early. I had visited their Website and City Search to confirm that BFH would be open prior to leaving work and driving to the restaurant only to be told that BFH always closes its doors early. I have a suggestion. BFH should update their WebSite to reflect their hours. It will require little effort on their part, and save customers such as myself the inconvenience, and BFH the loss of the future business of a good customer.

I eat out every day, and have spent over 500.00 dollars during the last 30 days at BFH. Due to the rudeness of the employee who sternly told us that BFH was closed, regardless of the published hours of operation, I will take my business elsewhere.

The Best Veggie Tempura Roll

by courtneyjane111

I love Blue Fish b/c they have the best Veggie Tempura rolls in Houston and the prices are right. In general, I really like the food and the restaurant as a whole. The service is average - sometimes great, sometimes bad (in a non-existant way, not a rude way).

My only real complaint is the music. The ambience is otherwise amazing - small, muted lighting, romantic, etc. etc. However, the sushi chefs always seem to play the WORST cheesy asian pop at a level loud enough to hear throughout the restaurant. Turn off the music and Blue Fish would be perfect.

Pros: Great Food, Great Prices, Ambience

Cons: Music, Spotty Service

Awesome sushi, awesome pricing, horrible service

by silvioplc

Hello,
Blue Fish is my fav for Happy Hour sushi. Ambiance is great, food is even greater, but the service leaves much to be desired. I've been a server for many years and now I manage, so I am a very patient and empathetic person. I wish I knew the name of the specific female server that "took care" of us twice and gave us horrible service. I want to keep frequenting this quaint place, I'll just request somebody else.

What is the hype??????

by vineet1977

My wife and I recently went to Bluefish for the first time and I must say what I heard about the sushi was far different then what I experienced when I was eating it. I thought the sushi was not good at all maybe because it was made a different way. The ambience however was very nice and when you drive up into the parking lot it doesn't even look like a Japanese restaurant.

This place is good if you want other types of food besides sushi. I wouldn't recommend this place solely on the sushi. Sorry.

one of our favs!

by weenfreek

My husband and i have been coming here for a little over a year now (since the day he proposed!). It was reccomended by my good friend, who is Japanese. The sushi is far from high priced, and the hibachi plates are VERY good (I've noticed that many places will either have good sushi or hibachi, but this has BOTH)! We have a habit of getting like 10 things and splitting them amongst friends, so I've tried MANY things on the menu, and so far, i have yet to be dissapointed. I don't know about the peopel that complained about the service, we've NEVER had a problem.

Pros: good value, well rounded menu, good, creative dishes

Cons: closed on sundays

I LOVE SUSHI!!

by fancie

If you like sushi, then this is the place to eat! I have eaten sushi all over the US and Canada and Blue Fish is awesome for the price! Some friends introduced me to the restaurant a few months ago and I go there whenever I crave sushi and have not been disappointed once! I recommend Blue Fish for fresh yummy sushi at a decent price with a relaxing atmosphere!

Rustic and Serene

by samsungd500

I like the quaintness of it all. The dinner begins with a brisk walk through a wooded parking lot. Then the dinner seems to take place in a log-cabin-esque setting. Like the attention and like the sushi. I'll be back for something more.
